  10. Not really a what did you buy, but a what did you find which was basically the same thing as I had no clue I had these. Then kinda felt like a hoarder all Ed Mack style with a 2010 polybag... Who knew...

  11. By leaving them, you are depriving yourself of future happy customers while at the same time leaving the door open to and thus tacitly encouraging other low-life types to get into the quick-flipping racket.

  12. This thread is funny. You saw it three days in a row and didn't buy it but now blame Quick Flipping Low Lifes because you didn't want to spend the $4. Your lack of a Christmas Tree is no bodies fault but your own. Things sell out a Christmas. Just a quick edit: last year when target had Simpsons CMF for $1.48 I bought 100 of them. Used ten as party favors and donated the rest to my kids school (which in turn used them as rewards for reading). So just because large numbers of a very inexpensive item disappeared overnight doesn't always mean QFLL.

  16. Here's my question, someone who buys a bunch of stuff now to resell immediately, or someone who does it to throw in a hole not to see the light of day for years, what's the huge difference that makes one more acceptable to you than the other? Is it that the serious long term people don't really go for Christmas tree polybags?

  18. Yesterday: sold my used, built once, SSD for $800 +shipping. I got to build /display it and my buy in was $270 (from AWD). 5 more sealed copies, I am in no hurry to get rid of them. I think $1,200- $1,500 two years from now is reasonable.

  19. Your logic just doesn't make sense to me. I guess you're assuming one person bought all 20. But let's say it was you (or someone like you). So 7 people came in and bought 1-3 of the polybag in the last day. Why is that unreasonable to assume that happened? QFLL'ers are an easy target, and I get it. But it's just as likely that Grandma and Little Timmy came in and bought a few each. And 6 more people just like them did. It could have been me. I would easily buy 4 of them. One for my desk, one for my wife, and one for each of the two kids. Doesn't take but a couple of people in a 24 hour period to make that happen - that's following your model. It's a $3.49 item. It's an impulse buy item. It's very likely that other people impulse bought it. And it's gone. Why should people *NOT* impulse buy it, so that it's there for OP to buy the next day. It's actually a bit unreasonable to assume that it's going to be there the next day. I'm not just talking about Lego, either. This is true for tons of other products. My wife worked at the Disney Store in the mid-90s. We learned early on that if we wanted something, and saw it, to buy it. Why? Because they ran through stock so quickly, and rotated stock so quickly, that there was no guarantee that it would be there the next day. It was reality then, and it's reality now with TONS of different products.

  21. I don't see how it's his fault saying he should have just bought them when he saw them. I think what's fair is that people should be able to buy a lego set when it's available within reason. I totally agree that he should be upset. If there were 20, and he just didn't think about getting it, he has that right to believe it would still be there next day. it's not like there were 1 or 2. Look, I resell lego as well...obviously, but I tend to buy 1-3 of anything. not 20-100. If people want to do that, so be it, if the stores sell them to you, can't stop you. don't hate you. but doesn't make it right either. I'm in favor of having "little timmy" (so to speak) be able to get a toy he wants and for his parents to have the means. When a set is retired, then that's the time to cash in and people who buy pay because they want it and or missed out. I hope this all makes sense. Do what you want, everyone has the right, I just lean to the side he's on to and understand why he's upset that's all I'm saying. the whole quick flip thing with as many people that buy lego today is killing a lot of things. it's way to saturated, and lego doesn't mind. they'll just keep producing more and the sets you want retired take longer and cost less. not a recipe for success in my book. trying to be completely civil and fair here to understand both sides btw. everyone will have there own outlook.

  25. Do they normally only discount sets that are about to retire? Yes and no. If you look at previous years, some have gone on to retire others stick around. The key thing to note is that sets that appear in the Brick Friday sale tend to be slow sellers. You'll have to draw your own conclusions whether they're sets that TLG decide to pull the plug on.

  26. All I want is to Bricklink two outhouses from 60073 I need these for my fairgrounds setup. Almost no one has the man/woman sticker. I grabbed the one I happened across tonight. And there's a few in Europe. But that's it. Could someone please get on breaking this out so I don't break down and buy the set.

  28. Says mister meme.... ;) The thing most folks don't realize is there are threads that go off topic and most "responsible" members go off topic in those threads knowing they are likely to be less moderated and less followed (i.e. read) by many casual or less addicted members. There are however some folks around these parts who like to take a dump in every thread and turn it into an early retirement party, a stock tracker or a bubble thread. Anyways... I unloaded my Town Halls early on. Kind of kicking myself for not saving at least one new in the box, but whatever... So many sets, so little time and space. You can fit around 16 Exo Suits in the space it takes to store 1 TH. ;)

  33. Great article. Please take 2 minutes and read it. But if you're lazy, it basically suggests that many investors expect prices to peak in December, when in fact they often decline. It is theorized that too many sellers, hoping for December gains, put their product out there, and increased supply leads to lower prices. I actually saw this play out last month for the 10228 Haunted House. I thought October would be the perfect time to take some profit on one of mine. Ebay prices in September were around $445. So I put mine up for sale in the beginning of October, and what-do-you-know... a lot of folks had the same idea, and prices dropped almost 10%.

  41. Short story, hopefully entertaining (and reminiscent of a Goodwill lot Alpinemaps found/lost earlier in the thread [sorry for bringing that up!])... These days, CL deals don't come as often/easy and finding a truly 'rare' set is even more difficult. That's why my eyes nearly jumped out of their sockets when I saw this photo on a $50 listing for 8 lbs of bulk locally: Thankfully, no one else had contacted the seller almost four hours later (an eternity of time for a decent Lego lot listed in my area) and I made arrangements to pick it up as soon as I could. After 5-10 minutes of sifting through and grabbing most of the related pieces in the lot, I have this bin of pieces from 10190 Market Street: I'm pleasantly surprised by how much of the set I ended up with (even though many of the hard to find pieces are missing). As a collector who has bricklinked Cafe Corner and a Sand Blue Grocer, this is a very welcome 'head start' to wrapping up the last modular I needed to complete my street. Last week I found a Black Pearl & QAR (no minifigs) plus several other sets for $85, so I'm hoping this run of finding rare/valuable sets on CL continues!
