  2. These don't have to be huge articles. Maybe a monthly 300 word blog about why one shouldn't invest in LEGO bricks. It would be a huge lightning rod and interesting conversation starter. Negative commentary is welcome as long as it is in good taste and respectful of others. LEGO investing is not for everyone and their should be an opposing view to all the "RA RA" dialog on the site. I even have a name for your blog...MR.SUNSHINE'S ANTI LEGO INVESTING BLOG...LOL

  6. An image of the first polybag to go with the new LEGO Nexo Knights line to be released in 2016 has made it's way online. 30371 Knight's Cycle polybag, with Royal Soldier minifigure will be released sometime in 2016. As you can see from the image, included will be a blue soldier with a jousting lance, riding some sort of cycle with stud shooters. Very reminiscent of a jousting scene from other LEGO Castle themes. In keeping with the mix of historic castle and futuristic space of the Nexo Knights theme, you can see how the two have been mixed together. No information has been released yet on the release date or availability of this polybag. For those that enjoy MOC'ing, it should be easy to recreate this in other color schemes. The Nexo Knights will appear in colors other than blue, and the primary pieces in the image above that are in blue can easily be changed to other common colors. For an investment perspective, this is the first polybag of the line. Since the line has received a lukewarm reception from some in the investment community, it remains to be seen whether there will be an significant appreciation in this polybag, or if this will be easily gobbled up for pennies on the dollar. You can discuss Nexo Knights with other BrickPicker.com forum members here. Image from Brickset.com and user CM4Sci on Eurobricks.

  11. Actually, once I'm done with the article I'm currently working on I might give writing a "Dangers" of LEGO investing type article. Actually a good idea.

  12. I guess the main thing I discovered when writing the book was that there are plenty of themes that appreciate very well and are never discussed. I knew most, but some themes really surprised me. As for the "Stormtrooper by the urinal" thing, that will be book number two. We will be giving members a chance to get heavily involved on the creative and visual side of things with this next book. We are finalizing the contract now with the publisher.

  13. The reality is that a) some people spend far too much time searching on eBay and b ) others exaggerate how good the deals are... but general hints are: - look for common spelling errors (millenium vs millennium) - mis-categorized items - learn to use the advanced search features to group words and exclude words - and most of all, don't trust eBay's search feature since it uses a highly complex and unpublished sorting algorithm .. there are services out there that will search eBay's listings for you based on criteria you set and they'll do the search all day long (sometimes up to every 30 seconds) looking for matches. People don't like to give too many hints about how they go about searching for the deals... using an automated service or writing their own scripts to monitor eBay and other retailer websites (or paying someone to write them) is a lot more popular than people think.

  15. The Ultimate 42009 is by far the most complicated build I have ever done. The creator of this moc is Jurgen Krooshoop and he did a fantastic job. It is an expensive build with all the PF's. It has eight motors and two battery boxes. In the near future, I will also be taking apart the 8043 and building his ultimate version of that model as well.

  16. People should also realize that good things can happen if a person writes well and starts producing content. It's not only good for the site, but good for them as well. You never know when someone will come knocking asking you to write a book. If Jeff and I can do it, many of you can as well. I think Jeff also forgot to mention we are willing to pay for quality content. It's something that has to be figured out, but we can discuss that with interested parties.

  20. Why don't you write something about the pitfalls of LEGO investing? We are not asking for people to give up secrets. We are looking for ALL SORTS OF CONTENT. News, reviews, videos, analysis...whatever. Here is a chance to be heard and to impress others. It's easy to post stuff on forums. It's much harder to present it in a formal manner that can be scrutinized and/or enjoyed by thousands of people. Like Jeff said, people can use it as a way to promote their own endeavors.

  25. Fantastic read. I read it cover to cover. I learned a lot from this guide. I need to rethink my strategy a bit. I'm already targeting a couple different sets that I wasn't paying attention to before. This guide helped open my eyes to the collectibility of different kinds of sets. Overall very well done! Great photography too, btw! Disappointed we didn't see "the thumb", the cat, or a storm trooper at a urinal. Oh well, can't show all your best work on the first edition. Congrats on the book. This is all around awesome. Everything is awesome.

  28. I'm going to throw this out there as an unexpected benefit - you might be able to parlay writing on a regular basis for a press pass into conventions. San Diego Comic Con has some of the strictest guidelines, but I feel as if you can pass their test, you can pass anyone else's. If Brickpicker is truly going to start generating content on the front page in the form of articles, blogs, etc. (as opposed to just writing forum posts), then you will be a contributor that should be eligible for consideration. Considering Lego usually has a presence at this major events, it could really be an extra perk for you. Considering my own proximity to San Diego Comic Con, I'm really considering what I can do to contribute in a way that might really be of benefit all the way around.

  33. Don't mind at all. I purchased lot from a fellow Brickpicker back in February/March. Consisted of 250+ lbs. He had done some initial sorting, but finishing that and washing all the parts took about a month. I have been ordering parts as I go, inventorying about a dozen sets or so going by theme.(Had over 100 sets in it from 2005-2009 timeframe) Overall, I'm sure I've made minimum wage due to that hours put in sorting, but was able to keep some really cool sets like an Emerald Night, Motorized AT/AT, 7993 Service Station I've wanted for a long time, random figures, etc. etc. Between what I kept and sold/end up selling(have about a dozen left), I'll make a few thousand profit on a few thousand investment. Was hoping to double my money and I'll be darn close to doing it. This takes into account parts ordered, but not time or anything as I don't lose normal income due to working on this. I've kept a spreadsheet just for this lot to see how it goes. I'll also be taking a long break from doing this again as well.

  34. The LEGO Christmas Train (40138), which was a free gift with purchase of $99 or more is no longer available at LEGO Shop at Home in the US. It appears to have sold out sometime overnight. The train was the first of two holiday free gift with purchase sets for 2015, with the Gingerbread House (40139) available starting November 27 (Black Friday). The Holiday Train promotion ran from October 13 until November 13, or until supplies ran out, which appears to have happened with about 8 days remaining. Product should still be available at retail Lego Stores for at least a few more days. The promotion runs until November 20 (or until supplies run out) in the UK. The Christmas Train is currently seeing purchase prices of $18-$25 on eBay. Expect that prices could go up as stock dwindles, and word of the sold out status at Shop at Home travels. Prices could continue to rise as the Gingerbread House debuts later this month, and sellers pair the sets together. 2014 Holiday sets are a mixed bag, as the first Holiday set, 40106 Elves Toy Shop - which pairs nicely with 10245 Santa's Workshop - is currently valued at $30. Meanwhile, 40107 Ice Skating, is currently valued at $18. Ice Skating was not a fan favorite, which could explain its lackluster value.

  35. I just wrote a second article today. Guys - this really doesn't take a long time to submit something. Even with pulling down a photo, and linking to BrickPicker pages, it took maybe 10-15 minutes to write up a short news article. For those of you that talk about giving back to the site - I realize transferring funds via PayPal for a yearly subscription seems like the easiest way to help out. But this is a very easy way to give back to the site. The more exposure that BrickPicker gets on Google, the more clickthrus it receives, and the more money back into their pocket. Please consider taking even a few minutes to contribute a new item, or an analysis, or some other original content.

  37. This might be one form of payment for future video reviews and smaller set reviews. If people will send us a sample of what we can expect from them in video form or written form, we might be able to work out a deal with qualified individuals. As Jeff stated earlier, we would like to do a BrickPicker Youtube channel in which the site is promoted and the video creator is rewarded with affiliate advertising dollars. Believe me, people make big money off those videos if they are well done and/or interesting.

  38. You should still be part of the Writers Group. Go to the Blog Section: http://community.brickpicker.com/blog and you should see a bluish/green button to make a new blog post. Select LEGO News and type a way just like you do a forum post. Make sure you include a photo, where you see it say image at the bottom. That is about it. Very simple. If you are not seeing the Post new article button, send me a PM and we will sort it out there.

  45. Technic 42009 is a wonderful set. Many Technic fans think it may be the best Technic set ever (opinion). Lots of things that can be done to it. I bought several a few years ago, and out of them produced a version of the Liebherr 1500 8.1. Recently I took it out and played with it and was able to make it lift a heavier version of the 8070 supercar (my own modifications of it). That is one thing I love about Technic; models can replicate the real thing and actually function at least similar to the real thing (in this case, replicating the "Y" guy arrangement allowed it to lift much more that without the "Y" guy arrangement). Again, just like the real thing. Perhaps not as strong, but that is not due to lack of replication of mechanics as much as it is a lack of replication of materials. Tons and tons of fun.
