Hello all, some may remember me and many probably will not. But after a long time away I have finally found my way back to the fold. Life happens sometime and work occupies us....that and the sheer upheaval when work tells you to move halfway across the nation . But I am glad to report I am back and life is now somewhat back to normal. Currently working at restarting my eBay store and starting the massive task of trying to catch up on the wide world of LEGO that left me in the dust quick. Anyway, just wanted to jot out a quick note re-introducing myself to the community and saying hi. - Vince15 points

ACT I: A Tuesday morning in Billund, Denmark. Two lego corporate executives meet at the water cooler. Lego Exec. A: Hey George, how was your weekend? Lego Exec B: Hi Rupert, it was fine, just fine. And yours? George: Fine, just fine. Rupert: That's good. George: Yup, yeah, good...good. (an awkward silence develops as they take turns at the water cooler) Rupert: Hey you know what we could do today? George: (looks up from his coffee cup. Audience wonders why he now has a cup of coffee if this is a water cooler scene, but they just give it the benefit of the doubt). Rupert: Well, you know how the status updates on the website are always red when something goes to "Sold Out"? George: Yeah... Rupert: Well I was just thinking, you know we could totally change that... in like, just some of the different sets... George: I don't follow. You mean like make the new "Sold Out" tags blue any time we temporarily sell out of something? What's the point of that? Rupert: (frustrated) No, no, no, you're not hearing me. Not all of them. Like, only a few of them.... And not blue either. Blue is a direct contrast to red. I'm thinking something really close to red, like purple or something. George: What about orange, orange is really close to red. Rupert: (excitement building in his voice) Holy crap yes. Orange would be perfect for this. It's almost the same thing, but not exactly. George: (still seemingly indifferent) Okay but why? I mean, why would we do that? (a robotic female voice with just a lilt of a British accent comes over the intercom announcing it's time for the weekly executives meeting in the lounge to laugh about 10188 while execs enjoy pastries and read recent online blog entries to each other) George: Hey I'm gonna go to this meeting. Do whatever you want with the colors dude, I really don't care. Rupert: (Looks at the camera and raises one eyebrow, a smirk beginning to form on his thin Danish lips) ACT II: An online website where people write long and self-indulgent forum posts that take forever for other members to read and go on and on with pointless stage directions and attempts at humor. Especially people with costumed frankfurters next to their names. Forum Guy: Drop everything. The "Sold Out" tag is orange on the ISD! It's orange. It's not red, I know what red is and I've seen red. But this changes everything. It has to mean something. I mean this has to MEAN something. We need to discuss this. We need to! Okay you all get the joke now, I'm not going to beat you over the head with it. I have to get back to work anyways. This took me like 20 minutes to write. God I'm such a nerd.12 points

Although the attached image of the GB HQ is a MOC it's clear to see how it doesn't take much to seamlessly integrate it with other Creator Modulars.10 points

Hang on a minute. Don't cross the streams. I have to play devil's advocate on this one. Original BTTF is great but by the third movie it just got sad. I can't remember the details but I'm like 47% sure there was a cowboy version of Biff and Marty McFly was running around wearing a Navajo rug. Ghostbusters WAS iconic. The characters were fun, the actors were brilliant. Bill Murray alone is enough reason to watch this movie over and over. I dare you to watch this scene and not love Ghostbusters: Spengler: There's something very important I forgot to tell you. Venkman: What? Spengler: Don't cross the streams. Venkman: Why? Spengler: It would be bad. Venkman: I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing. What do you mean, "bad"? Spengler: Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Stantz: Total protonic reversal! Venkman: Right. That's bad. Okay. All right. Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon. 31 years later and I can quote this word for word from memory. This an numerous other scenes. I owned the Ghostbusters cassette and wore the crap out of that thing. I could sing every word from that soundtrack (yes, Air Supply). I had to buy a second one I wore it out. For those of that saw these films in the summer of 84 and 85 they are both iconic. I've seen them multiple times over. To argue which is more iconic is silly. They are both great films. 1983-1985 was one of the best sets of years for fantastic films. Too many to count.6 points

The more people that talk down about this set the more excited I am about it.6 points

This is how we're all going to go someday. Well maybe not the "great guy" part for all of us. Sad family members shocked at how much Lego we've accumulated hidden away in nooks and crannies in the house, and how much its all worth.5 points

Sealing the Lego in a container with some dryer sheets does wonders for getting rid of smoke smell. Besides the fact that the sellers aren't up front about the smell, it really amazes me that people still smoke in their homes. That person's entire home smells like that batch of Lego.5 points

Maybe your tastes have changed, but it's not horrible. I still chuckle at the part at the start of the movie where the guy keeps getting shocked during his test session instead of the girl.5 points

“There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.” Ugh. I love receiving an $80 Bricklink order to open it up to an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. I ordered from this guy once before, but forgot to put a note in there that the order smelled, or to move him to my least favorite store list. I'm pretty sure the last time I ordered from him, he had a note that said his stuff came from a non-smoking house, and I caught him. I'm pretty sure he changed his store's info so it doesn't make a mention anymore. He says his bricks are new, and they appear new. But the smell. Ugh. I'll take my lumps, but won't be ordering from him again. And if a store doesn't say "non-smoking" I'll either pass them over or grill them before ordering. What a PITA. Guess I'll be washing these bricks.5 points

I really discussed the sets/themes and what makes them successful...or unsuccessful. As I stated earlier, the emphasis was not on the tricks of LEGO investing or flipping. The publisher wanted a book on collectibles because that's what they specialize in.2 points

The one thing it has going for it and it can't be overlooked in the new secondary market scenarios is that it probably has little chance of getting reissued once it retires.2 points

They said this is the line that they published this year, which is a little different from "available now", or in the future.2 points

This may have been discussed before but I'm not sure what thread to look in? Anyone know the difference between Sold Out & Sold Out at SOH? If you highlight a red "Sold Out" and then right click the text and hit view selection source, a box pops up that says <li class="availability-questionable">.... Doing same with orange says <li class="availability-future">. I think I remember a lot of times where I've seen a red sold out tag (RE?) only to come back full force later. Orange may have more merit if anything.2 points

In terms of Fan base, yes SW takes the cake, but if you've ever been to a comic con or in my case Dragon Con in ATL, you will readily see the impact GB has.2 points

I have a friend here at work that goes to estate sales and auctions almost every weekend. He's a hidden gem hunter, who flips stuff on EBay, but it's quite a bit of dedication to go to these things every Saturday. Anyway, I was on a conference call with him Monday and he said I missed out on a huge collection of LEGO at an estate sale last weekend. I didn't have much time to talk to him about it then, but I hit him up yesterday. He said the guy had big sets still sealed, Fire Brigade, R2-D2, Town Hall, etc and tons of sets loose/complete cataloged and bagged. Apparently his family was careful about going through everything and labeling it appropriately. Well, he was telling me the prices the stuff went for and I was shocked. Honestly, I was kind of relieved I wasn't there, because I would have never paid those prices. I didn't miss much, as in, I didn't miss some crazy deal. He said folks usually turn out for good estate sales with a reputable auction company. My friend never calls me from the sales, although sometimes I wish he did. I guess this one was in my town. Actually, it was a guy's collection from the grade above me in high school, someone who I went to church with as a kid who suddenly passed away this year. Great guy and apparently he had a great collection.2 points

That could definitely be a possibility if it doesnt sell well, which I see a 50/50 chance of happening. The rumor was that town hall retired early because of the high price point and with this being even more expensive I can see it being a slow seller. I think some people over estimate the number of die hard GB fans that will shell out a car payment for a brick building.......unless the interior is absolutely amazing. I know it seems like its gonna be a huge seller but that might just be becaue we have alot of GB fanboys posting here2 points

Nobody buys Modulars for the minifigures, they buy them because they are works of art, and are now a long running series. While I doubt you're referring to me directly, I did point out that by breaking down this set, there's definitely value here, and the minifigures, exclusive at that, add to the value. I just don't see many people down the line wanting this for $700, which is what I would need to sell it for, at a minimum, to make it worth my while. I don't have time to flip stuff, so I look for good long term investments. This does not fall into that category for me. We can agree to disagree on what we think this will do long term, and that's cool, that's what we're here for. Thought out conversation is needed more here. I still want to see the interior to get a better feel for what work Lego really put into this set. To me, it's pretty obvious it opens up like a modular due to the ring in between the two levels of windows built with plates instead of bricks. That's a pretty good tell of a layer of tiles for separation.2 points

It doesn't look as if many are considering the value of 12 exclusive minifigs (if you count the ghosts). I could build the typical Modular minifigs with spare parts lying around the house - they add no real value to the sets. When you consider the immediate value of these 12 minifigs - the set is priced too low.2 points
-
Cool picture. But for $350, it should be twice the size of a regular Modular, shouldn't it?2 points
-
How the heck do you manage this raven? My store employees limited us to like 2 each, and asked me why I needed so many.2 points
-
If this building didn't have a little ghost sign on the front they would be going crazy about how this is an overpriced red box. I already said I would save some judgement for the interior pictures, but even then, how many people display these types of buildings with them open? Especially if it's in the modular form. I could actually see this as being a decent parter outer since it does have a high piece count and I'm sure dark red sells well, as well as all the printed pieces and figures. It's not that I didn't like the movie, I grew up in this time just like many others here. Love the movie, but the headquarters isn't that iconic, and I don't see people shelling out big, big money down the road for it. Ecto-1, to me, is dollar for dollar a much better investment than this set, even with the high horde rate. You can laugh at me all you want, I might buy one of these for myself, but won't invest in a single one. There are many better sets out there than this one.2 points

BTTF, GB, and Gremlins great time to be a kid. For what it's worth I prefer Ghostbusters. It's just a great movie. Crossing the streams is bad, it will endanger us, it will endanger that nice lady that paid us in advance before she became a dog.2 points

If I had the option to either pay 400 for this set or I could get both the kwik e mart and Simpson house both for 200 dollars total I'd chose the firehouse every time. Set is awesome. Everyone complaining about the price is hilarious. Just wait til Lego unveils the inside. It's gonna be amazing. There is no doubt in my mind about that. People are funny. So when is this gonna retire?2 points

All Toysrus "sales" start on Friday and last thru the following Thursday. Sometimes they can last 2 weeks, and sometimes there are none at all. I use the word "sale" very loosely, it's more of just a way to say "new flyer period". You can view next weeks flyer online usually a day before their flyer week begins (so you can view next weeks sales today). As another member posted earlier in the thread; i believe this week will be %20 LEGO Movie sets, %20 off Star Wars MTT, and free Demolition Driller poly with $25 purchase. Seen this poly back in February of this year at LEGO Shop at Home, so it's nothing special. Hope this helps!2 points

If you are ordering a $50 steak, my guess is the quality of the cooking and the quality of the service is oodles better than when you order a $10 burger. At most restaurants, tips are divided amongst many people. If you aren't happy with the service, tip accordingly. For many of the people that are working these jobs and skating by, they very easily could just sit at home and draw government subsidies. I admire people that are willing to work, even though the work is not glamorous and the pay barely makes ends meet.2 points

I just preordered my copy. Figure you've been a customer so now I will be one. Was looking for the add on cryptic cipher accessory but could not find it. Think the marketing team dropped the ball on that one... Will there be a "new" cover for prolonged life? after it retires will you re-release it? Hoping it has seal codes too. Questions that I will be asking closer to eol...2 points

Sellers? I can have a million listings and if they are all equal to eBay in price, what buyer will take a chance on your Brick Classifieds listing with all the buyer protections on eBay? As a seller, you should appreciate the opportunity to sell an item at zero commission and zero hassle. As Jeff has said many times, we want to be the site where you can find fair prices. He is working with Huw from Brickset, so there could be opportunities for mass exposure of your sets. Jeff if not picking on one person in particular, just making an example of what we don't want on the site. If people want to charge Amazon and eBay prices, then do it there, it's that simple. I think it's unfair to call us any sort of names when we are making zero from this and spending time and money to operate it.2 points
