Built the new MF and Sea Cow over the weekend! Haven't built anything for the past month and fingers were itching to build. i really wanted to be excited about the MF, but it was just 'meh' for me. Nothing particularly special. Made me wish for a new 4000+ piece MF. Didn't think the premium price was worth it. Much preferred the shuttle tyderium over this. Took me 3 hours. On a more positive note, I thoroughly enjoyed building the Sea Cow. This set was huge and fun. Very little repetition and nice mini figures.4 points

Sold a 10695 Creative Box for $35....a few hours after I bought it for $10. (Local FB Exchange Sale) Sold a 40032 Witch polybag, 40090 Halloween Bat, and 40122 Trick or Treat for $30 (Local FB Exchange). Went inside Walmart and found another Halloween Bat marked down to $5. I'm a dirty dirty QFLL'er.3 points

Sold a six pack of polybags on Amazon for about $200 before fees and shipping. Sold the summer scene, fall scene, spring scene, turkey dinner (that one was $40) decorating the tree, and Santa sleigh. That combined with a lot of dino sets the last week has me thinking I might crack the 25 in sales needed to sell during the holidays after all.3 points

I like what your saying crusty, however, there are a few differences. Bricks don't change much and if the reissue design doesn't change much, and the box doesn't, there realy isn't much if any reason to pay extra for the fist issues. Transformers first issues were built soo much better than they are now...and there are considerable changes that make them more desirable. On that note I have a huge collection of vintage stuff...huge. I haven't sold 1 solitary brick too. I have probably close to 65k in un-opened sets. Do I care to sell them...no... This is money I consider lost. I got them cause I love building them with my boys... i had very little when I was a youngster...I've basically bought everything I ever wanted...since I've become successful in my business. I get these because it's fun to collect them. Someday they will eventually go to a good home...3 points

But why would Lego evacuate now, in their moment of triumph? I think you overestimate our chances.2 points

Sales must Not be where they projected it. And to think they are still Banning People & Putting Limits on sets. Wake up Lego.2 points

Technic 42009 is a wonderful set. Many Technic fans think it may be the best Technic set ever (opinion). Lots of things that can be done to it. I bought several a few years ago, and out of them produced a version of the Liebherr 1500 8.1. Recently I took it out and played with it and was able to make it lift a heavier version of the 8070 supercar (my own modifications of it). That is one thing I love about Technic; models can replicate the real thing and actually function at least similar to the real thing (in this case, replicating the "Y" guy arrangement allowed it to lift much more that without the "Y" guy arrangement). Again, just like the real thing. Perhaps not as strong, but that is not due to lack of replication of mechanics as much as it is a lack of replication of materials. Tons and tons of fun. A new UCS Falcon would have to be as good or better to have an effect on prices IMO. Anything inferior to the original will only help inflate the 10179's prices. Even if the new Falcon is an equal to the old, what happens if it is a STAR WARS 40th Anniversary set released in 2017? Would that make the 30th Anniversary Edition even more desirable to the whale LEGO investors out there? Face it, the regular LEGO fan is priced out of these $5000 Falcons now anyway, so what will it matter if people who can't afford the old ones buy the new ones? They are not in the buyer's pool to begin with.2 points

I think there will always be collectors that will want to have the first edition, original or classic sets and will pay a price to get it. I look at the castle sets from recent years and no matter how much they are improved on or grow in size the classic Legoland sealed boxes will always hold more appeal. Look at G1 Transformers, they have had countless re-issues and copies made, even Masterpiece sets with improved durability and parts and yet the originals still sell for crazy money. I'm not saying that a remake of 10179 wouldn't affect the current price but with time its rarity would cause it to demand a premium that will always exceed any remake. I've lost count of how many times I've considered parting with silly money to have a G1 Transformer toy in a mint sealed box. It's difficult to put a price tag on nostalgia.2 points

What's interesting about this whole conversation, are some of you guys thinking Lego has to cater specifically to you and only you. As if Legos only motivation to making sets is to focus on secondary market prices. Sure they are paying attention, but they don't care if they hurt some of your profits. I agree with this sentiment. Look, in virtual currency, my Lego collection is over $11,000. I've spent around $10,000. (I have opened and displayed almost 95% of my collection.) Do I have $1,000+ in profit? Nope. Technically because I haven't sold anything, I'm in the hole $10k. For those that think their set is worth so much, until you sell it, you are in the red. Go the other way though, UCS MF is worth 5K now, you think in a couple of years it'll hit 8K, but in 2 years Lego releases a new one, and BAM UCS MF is only worth 1K. You technically didn't lose $3500 profit. You earned $500 profit. This is why I don't understand people that hold onto things forever. It's all a risk. Although, I'm totally enjoying some of the freak outs about all this end-of-the-world talk about Lego investing. It's a toy people.2 points

Last year TH went to sold out a few weeks before Australian retailers received their last shipment. This prompted me (and others I'm sure) to grab all of the Town Halls that I could find at retail. Hoping that this happens again before the November drop of Pet Shops2 points

You've summed it up here really well. IMO, a smart seller prices not only for the marketplace they are selling on, but for the overall market. Sometimes it works out in your favor - as in, you can sell on BC for "less money" but you're still making a better profit. Other times, no so good. For example, there was a set that I listed on eBay the other day that I'd make a nice profit. But for whatever reason, when I checked pricing on Bricklink (to list it there as well), the price was considerably lower - beyond normal adjustment for marketplace fees. It just didn't make any pricing sense to list on Bricklink. Bottom line, though, is you need to do your homework, and do your "conversions" to make sure you're getting what you want out of a set, and maximizing your exposure.2 points
-
I'm sure it's ok to also drop items on BC you don't really want to move quick. The price may or may not reach your desired level sometime in the near or distant future. This is the hobbyist reseller approach I've used for many years.2 points

Neither Walmart nor Target in my area are stocking these in my area still so I checked out Five Below and found a few boxes thankfully. I acquired a complete set for myself....then had to go back because I forgot my mom wanted some in her own collection too. Haha. Well anyway I opened up mine already and have them on display. Man these Minifigures keep getting better with each series. The last few I thought were good to great altogether but this one is perfect. I could not honestly choose one as a least favorite because all are so fantastic! Trying to pick a single best is simply impossible as well. There is just way too much MOC potential with each of these characters. I know of a couple different ideas I would like to eventually try such as recreating the scientist from the original The Fly in 1958. In any case I want a small army of Flies and Gargoyles. Mwahahaha.2 points

Finally got around to putting my Vampyre Castle with the Trick or Treat set and put the Series 14 together. Have a nice halloween party going on. Probably can do the same with one of my HH's. Still can't come to opening them. I have 8 vc's so it's a little easier to do it. The images are high quality. Can't post the rest. I didn't realize how detailed the inside of the VC is...I knew there was some stuff, but spiral staircase, the castle opens and closes with hinges, handcuff chamber, vampyres bed, organ to play at the top of the tall castle, as well as his bedroom in another, trap door.....etc. Good build.2 points
