  1. Finished most of the Winter Village theme today with the Bakery and the Market sets. The design of the Market carousel is awesome and the building technique to make the horses rock is new to me. It does feel small for a $100 set but I'm happy to have it. I still need to find room for the smaller bits and pieces - I wish Lego had put those parts into making each building a little bigger and more detailed. Closer to the holidays I am going to put these down on some gray baseplates and add some white bricks but for now these are aligned in my closet.

  8. These stopmotion sort of build videos and channels are becoming more prevalent which is good but also means each will have to start offering a new twist on the genre compared to the other guy.

  9. That just sounds weird to me. I mean how much more 'Christmassy' can you get than the fat guy in a red suit's unsanctioned sweat shop employed by a handful of vertically challenged individuals working their butts off throughout the entire year with all effort directed towards only one day with him ultimately getting the credit and praise worldwide. It's simply mindboggling.

  11. Why do LEGO bricks turn yellow? LEGO bricks are made of Acrylonitril-butadieen-styreen or for short ABS. ABS is very cheap and very sturdy. It is however flammable (they add product against it) and also very sensible to UV-light, oxygen, moist and heat. If LEGO bricks are exposed too much to these elements, they will turn yellow. So best to keep your used LEGO dry, dark, temperate and preferably wrapped in a plastic bag to keep out oxygen. But there is good news for those precious sets that were not kept in that manner. I recently bought a second had 6339-1 Launch Pad from a woman on a second hand site in "GOOD" condition, but turned out it was completely yellowed. It was not possible to get refund so I started experimenting after looking up stuff at google. Materials Hydrogenperoxide: It is because of my ex that I found out what exactly it was. It is used to bleach hair so if you go to your local Brico, not going to find it. You can get it at stores like Kruidvat or in a pharmacy. As test, I took a 3% Hydrogenperoxide mixture like this one. Vanish Oxy: A stain remover. Reacts with the hydrogenperoxide. Can be found about everywhere. You can get it at Kruidvat A container: The smaller the better. Perhaps also best to take one in white or transparant so you catch the most UV-rays. The sun: You'll need to have a sunny day. UV-rays are a necessity for this to work correctly. Time: Count 8 hours for the bleaching process to take effect. Results I tested in on a clouded day but I was too anxious to test so went along just to see what it gave. This is the rest of my materials. As said a 3% hydrogenperoxide mixture and sone Vanish oxy that I first dissolved in a very small quantity of water. I left the bricks to sit in the solution for about 8 hours. During those 8 hours I spooned it every hour about. Result So the white bricks did have a noticeable improvement. Grey bricks stayed about the same. But it does work. I will repeat this experiment on a more clear day. Normally saturday is forecasted as a sunny day, but you never know in Belgium. I will also take a 10% solution that I bought at the pharmacy. It is quite alot more expensive (paid 20€ for half a liter) tho so I hope it doesn't differ much from the 3% solution. I do believe the sun is the deciding factor on this one. The bricks themselves still feel flexible and sturdy, the shape and form seems unchanged. I'll post another update as soon as I get more results. If you want the Dutch version go here.

  16. thought I would add my .02 cents here: as some may already know I am not a reseller, just a collector, and recently had my LEGO Shop at Home orders being cancelled automatically. For reference I had been placing average 2-4 orders from LEGO Shop at Home per month usually single items or if it was a seasonal promo like Painting Easter Eggs or Valentines Day i would order 2 of those sets, and never more than 1 of any exclusive set and I never had any issues. Right before my problems started I placed an order for a DO and about 2 weeks later ordered another so I could make a MOC and expand it (and this was the first time I ordered more than 1 exclusive). In between I also ordered some small pieces from the pick a brick website. For the large orders I had them sent to my work so I could sign for the packages and for the pick a brick orders I had sent to my home since I knew they would fit into my mailbox. My guess is that as a result of the orders with different shipping address - although I have used those 2 addresses for the past several years - my account was flagged and all orders I tried to place after the 2nd DO are cancelled automatically. Now each time I place an order I phone as soon as I see it is cancelled and they push my order thru to "review" and then 2 days later or so it goes thru. My guess is they check my purchase history each time? The customer service people have been very helpful and friendly through the process but did alert me that my orders would likely be cancelled automatically over the next couple of months and I should keep close watch on my orders and phone in each time I see cancelled. Not sure if this info helps anyone but I guess it is worth a phone call if you could be in a similar situation as I am...

  19. another 12 Santa's Workshop's in 12 separate single orders from target.com this morning. single orders prevent boxes from getting smashed like they always do on multiple orders and also getting to load up on boxes and bubbles. they've been in and out at least 3 times this morning. Up to 57. Going for 100. Not selling any this year unless we enter 2.5x MSRP territory.

  21. My son and I completed our bricklink'd Super Star Destroyer. Love the build, and the size is pretty impressive. If I had one gripe, it's that the mini-figs cannot stand up in the faux-bridge they included. To pose them, you have to leave the cover off. To store them in there, they all have to be either sitting or laying down. I substituted a handful of internal parts due to cost, like the yellow right-angle brackets that cost around $5 each. Total cost was under $400 spread out over a few months (to avoid the wife radar), but we still need to buy 2 of the 5 mini-figs. The exercise of finding the parts, maximizing the orders, inventorying and sorting, and then finally building, was a VERY worthwhile and fun project. Almost like an archaeological dig of sorts.

  23. $12 extra is pretty unreasonable. Just to clarify, it was an auction and not BIN? BIN - I'd split the difference with them and send them $6 just cause karma. Auction - They get nothing... many people put low shipping on auctions to make it more enticing to bid. It's the risk you take as the seller. Tough cookies. Your choice of course but I would just politely word it such that the maximum price you bid was based on the shipping cost as posted in the auction and that you would not have purchased otherwise. Apologize, be sympathetic, and simply end with "I look forward to receiving the item." Don't threaten negative feedback .. but of course leave it if the seller doesn't come through.

  29. college kids story sounds fishy to me. Why wouldn't he just return the two sets his brother got him using the receipt from the ones he purchased himself?

  30. I stumbled across a local college student on Craigslist today. He had purchased Kylo Ren's Shuttle and the First Order Transporter. At the same time, his brother purchased the same sets as a gift for him. He had already opened the ones he bought, and the gift from his brother didn't contain a receipt so he couldn't return them. Obviously, he's a poor college student and looking for extra cash, so I got both for $80!

  33. IMO it's smarter to produce more and more xwing and MF from the new trilogy to avoid a shortage before Xmas (remember Xmas 2014, lots of demand for these sets), than producing some more (supposed) less popular sets that have already been available for 2 years.

  36. R and D has been more than amortized by now! Also, this set is the exception to the rule in terms of shelf life - if it weren´t for the price, there would be one in every household like a Dark Side of the Moon album.... By updating the packaging and the minifigs they could likely even sell multiple copies to the same collectors just like DSOH!

  41. I imagine Darth Raichu could explain the whole thing better than me. Far as I understand the Microfighter builds would probably fit better under the "super deformed" category rather than "Chibi" since the latter has more to do with small characters typically drawn in a cutesy artistic style than normal people sitting in shrunk down versions of larger vehicles. ....Actually the more I think about it, the "chibi" term is sort of bugging me. I'll just edit the title to simply read as "Microfighter style MOCs".
