BTTF Delorean $95.48 also on amazon. sales have really accelerated out of nowhere. i was not the lowest price for these and they still sold. building up capital for some holiday promo splurge spending at shop at home. especially that gingerbread house. along with the candy and sweets, they might as well stick some of those green 1x2 flat tiles with the $100 printed on the side for good measure. ho ho ho - i love this time of year.

That set is "used", and anyone with 200 minifigs for sale in his store should know that.

related but different - a pet peeve of mine is Ebay sellers that include best offer on their listing and then refuse to negotiate within reason. I understand if you don't want to accept 10%-20% off - I tested the waters and couldnt match your floor. I'll move on and wish you luck. But if you're not willing to knock off 5% or even 2% of your asking price, maybe you shouldn't be using that feature. Maybe there's some secret psychology game going on here, but it seems to me like you're just cluttering up the landscape.

Got a 10030 for $100 on CL earlier this year. Seller was a Marine, who had bought it from a other Marine. The guy I bought it from had never build it - he was into Technic. He had tons of Technic he was selling too. He just wanted to get his $100 back. It was all there except for maybe 100 pieces. It was clear that one small section didn't make it into the tub. But otherwise it's fantastic.

Ed simply indicated how he felt the dinosaurs were eliminated and I see nothing referencing Lego in that cryptic post... HOWEVER, if he redoes that post using Lego minifigures and a giant Lego meteor, then we have something to talk about!

Not for nothing but as a collector as well Id be pissed if you wrote marker on a set you sent me. I get the point of it but a sticker with the same thing especially if they dont know its there would work and is removable.

I think the point was that at some price points you begin to enter the realm where a scammer will intentionally target your item because it becomes 'worth their time'. Over the course of selling 1000 items, you might have 5 deals go wrong, but if those 5 deals are the most expensive items you sell (like $1000 SSD's) then it's not something you can just shrug off like a Raptor Escape being lost or returned SNAD. I think it's worth bringing up the points you did to help our community protect themselves when dealing with the much higher end items. Thanks for sharing it. If anyone has other ideas, we should collect them in a topic "Selling High Price Lego - Protecting yourself" or something like that.

Sell it locally in person for cash is your best bet. Some folks have bought stickers with unique serial numbers and added their own seals but that still isn't enough since the buyer can claim you sent him a diff serial number or that they were already missing after they opened it - and who's to say they weren't? The reality is that getting scammed by a buyer makes up a very, very small percentage of buyers on eBay. People tend to worry about something they can't control.... ship good products that are packaged properly with proper insurance and tracking (don't be afraid of signature confirmation for those really expensive items). That's about as good as it gets and the reality is the chance of getting scammed is so low is it worth worrying about every time you sell something? Not to me... but I admit, it does suck when it happens.

I agree with your point, but one thing to remember is that a lot of people like to decorate their homes, inside and out, for Halloween. Next to Christmas, Halloween has to be one of the biggest holidays for decorating. Some people set up a Christmas village every year. We put together our Haunted House the first weekend of October and proudly display it on our kitchen table for the entire month.

I think that 500 after fees next X-mas is very very very optimistic...fingers crossed for you.

My advice is to do the right thing and give your customer his money back since he returned the item. Obviously your buyer was new and did not understand the correct returns process but IMO that does not mean you get to screw them over regardless of what the hacks at ebay CS tell you. In these situations I like to spend no more than 5 mins thinking about what to do. All the time spent thinking about it, contacting ebay, trying to contact the seller, you are losing productivity, money, and also missing out on other opportunities. So many sellers on ebay make things personal and lose out on so much time and money because of it as well as adding to the perception that it is a bad marketplace. Treat it like a business and your results will improve exponentially. Sounds like you may be out $10 in shipping? I bet if you had thought it over for 5 mins and just refunded your customer you would have moved on to other deals or listed more items and be up a few hundred dollars overall by now. Nobody likes returns but they are a part of doing business online and finding a way to get past them emotionally as well as allowing the correct margin to deal with them financially will lead to big money down the road.

Yup. They would never retire the Haunted House right before Halloween either. And no way they retire Town hall before Pet Shop.
