With any business whether it be a large corporation or a small website like BrickPicker, business models change. At times, you need to ask yourselves what it is that you are looking to achieve with the product you are working on. Since the beginning, Ed and I have always set out to try and help the LEGO investor and reseller save and make money.Today we are announcing that Brick Classifieds will be changing to the FREE / NO FEES model. I don't think you can really complain about that now can you. We want to help you, the LEGO investor/reseller, to move your product. Hopefully with some of the new tools that we have added to the system and the new ones that are being worked on right now, you will help spread the word to check Brick Classifieds first to find the best prices on LEGO items. Since there are no commissions taken out of your sale, we hope that you will work to price your items accordingly. If you are not going to lose fees, you should be pricing it lower on Brick Classifieds than on the other marketplaces so that you can still make the most money. Lower prices will help bring new buyers. Once buyers learn to check Brick Classifieds for best pricing, they will check Brick Classifieds first which means more money in your pocket instead of someone elses. We have made some updates to the product detail page of Brick Classifieds. We have included listings from other Brick Classifieds sellers as well as listings from eBay and Amazon. We are trying to show the buyer where they can get the best deal. If you, the seller, do your job correctly, they should want to buy the product from you and not go to the big shops. If the prices are better on eBay or Amazon, hopefully the buyer will click through and Brick Classifieds can earn some revenue through affiliate programs. Over the next few days we will be adding feeds from BrickOwl and still looking to see what can be done with BrickLink. It's been a while since I made a post about updates, but here are somethings that have changed on Brick Classifieds: Seller fees have been changed to 0% Removed the Trade feature. That has now returned to the BrickPicker forum. Entire site is in https (SSL) mode Created an infinite scroll page to easily see all the latest items that have been posted on the site Built a Store Banner Generator for you to design a custom banner for your store profile page. This could be useful for posting specials and discounts One of the big things we want to do is help spread the word about Brick Classifieds. We created a tool that will allow you to select random products in your store or pick the actual items you want displayed. It will create a snippet of code that you can use to display your store products on forums, websites, eBay, where ever. Just paste the code we give you and your items can be shown anywhere. In the coming days, there will be an update to the price guide template on BrickPicker that will include listings of sets on Brick Classifieds Everything you need to sell LEGO items is here for you. The price is right, that is for sure. The thing is to get the word out, price aggressively and get the buyers out there to learn more about your shop here on Brick Classifieds that has great prices. Viral marketing from all of you is the best way to get people to see your listings. Price the items better than eBay, Amazon, etc. They will buy from you and you will save on the fees. It is a win for everyone. Put a snippet about Brick Classifieds in a eBay listing here or there to let them check out your store. I am sure they would be happy to pay a lower price and know that you are most likely padding the price to help pay the eBay fees.7 points -

Well, I dangled a complete wave of JW for 600.00. That included all 5 sets plus the polybag, and someone bit on amazon… Down to 4 complete waves remaining. Luckily TRU had a Raptor Rampage available today so I used a raise card, and got one back for cost. That's one less Trex set I got to deal with. I can recover the other 3 sets (IR, PC, & DA) rather easily.1 point

You're making three assumptions: 1) Everyone has access to a physical LEGO store who wants this set. 2) That every LEGO store has them in stock (and will for double VIP). 3) That people don't impulse buy on eBay. I only have physical access to one store and I've seen them with a couple on the shelves and none on the shelves in the last three months. That's a recipe for parking lot hotcakes if I've ever seen one. PS It is not yet confirmed that 2x VIP overlaps with any significant gift from LEGO. 2x VIP is officially October 1-4 (anything else is just a rumor) and the free Xmas train starts Oct 13. I don't count the free Star Wars poster as much and it may not even last until Oct 1st.1 point

Simply because they couldn't make it happen last year... and they can't seem to keep JW on the shelves during "slow season". Lego, by it's own admission (from one of those documentary shows) makes the vast majority of sales in the 4th quarter--mostly December alone. There are a lot of "balls" in the air, and some will be dropped.* *10 to 1 it won't be Star Wars.1 point

Haha, yeah, I wasn't sure before, but that's the one I returned. I believe Jerryherb told you to check to make sure the "jerk face" that returned it, didn't steal all the minifigs. Glad to see I'm not a "jerk face" ...at least for not stealing minifigs.1 point

At LEGOLAND California, at one point they had Series 12, 13 and Simpsons Series 1 out. They had so many Simpsons Series 1, they lasted a year there. I want to say they had both Series 1 and Series 2 available. They did better this time and ordered a lot less Series 2. They are gone and they only have Series 14 in stock now.1 point

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. You don't have to label them if you don't mind getting your stuff thrown in with mixed inventory. If you want your sets stored and shipped, they require a label, so they can tie the item back to you.1 point

So I'm in Asda ( our Walmart for you Americans) just picking up some odds and ends tonight, anyway in this random corner I spotted like several cases of series 13 minifigures, which looked untouched, and seeing as how they just cleared all the Simpsons series 2 down to £1, I figured I'd grab one and price check, long story short they were £1 each, so I ended up with 3 full boxes. Good random score.1 point

Yeah I think it all depends on what your looking to get out of it. I started as a collector, then moved into investing to pay for it. 90% of my portfolio is long term hold. I've sufficient cash flow to invest in Lego put it away and 'forget about it'. For me it will be nice in 3-4 years to able to sell a few sets and take the family on holiday. The collector in me wants to keep 1 of each of my favorite sets extra long term (10+ years), see what they get to, and probably pass them on to my kids. All my used sets will be boxed back up at some point and the same will happen with them. At some point if Ive had enough, I wouldn't rush out and sell all my inventory, I just wouldn't buy any more. The stuff I sell now, I offset on the lego i'm buying to hold. I've sold 5 RR this month which means the 2 I have left have cost me near nothing. I enjoy doing this, but do not consider it a career, just a hobby with benefits.1 point

Last few days have sold these to stock up on newer better sets (in my opinion) BTF x1, Spidy chase x11, helms deep x1, friends van news x3, riddles of ring x1, lr mine x1, mine craft micros x3, ultra build batman x1, lr stage coach x1, sw dessert skiff x1, cargo train x1, ninjago golden dragon x1, crazy sci and monster x1, galaxy squad titan x1, batcave x2, chi temple x1, kings castle x1, lr train x1, ninjago sonic raider x1, and some other stuff. Was trying to clear out the hodge podge to make room for sales and bigger sets I want to focus on.1 point

There are some large sets, but how many people really say they just have to have a replica of the Ghostbusters Headquarters? I'm not knocking it, just saying it is not an iconic building or landmark. Large sets stick around for awhile and to make this set one of the biggest in LEGO history is a bit overkill IMO.1 point

The piece count could work. The set could be highly detailed and finished on all four sides, unlike the Modulars. It could also have a super detailed interior. I would love to see it, but I have to wonder if there are not better models to invest 4600 pieces into.1 point

I believe TLG only wants one thing: sustained profitability. Period. Full stop. No company of its kind wants anything else. So the question the Lego company is constantly facing is: how do we (1) keep demand for our products up and (2) sell them for as much as we can? 1) They want people to be scrambling to acquire the sets they produce; they want people thinking "I'd better buy this right now because who knows when it will be retired and gone forever!" That is a very good mentality for Lego's customers to have. Lego's customers will take a much different approach to buying if they know they can get this same set in a few years for the same price. 2) And let's talk about price: Lego is VERY expensive! Almost outrageously expensive. Seriously. $200 for a spaceship made out of little bricks with a Star Wars logo on it? That's not cheap. But a huge reason why people are willing to spend $150, $200 or even $400 for a box of plastic bricks is because consumers believe in their value. Consumers believe these sets will always be worth what they paid for them, and will maybe even appreciate. Consumers trust in Lego because they are well made, last forever, and retain value. So the $200 price tag is softened quite a bit when you know it will always be worth this amount, even after you open and play with it. Compare this to my other hobby: my wine cellar. I often compare the two in my mind, and I think the comparison is worth pointing out here. Wine is consumable. The moment I pop the cork on a $400 bottle of Bond or Schrader or whatever, that "asset" just became worth nothing except the pleasure I'm about to experience as I drink it. Tomorrow morning I'm going to pee it all out and recycle the empty bottle. And my $400 Death Star? I can open it up and build it with my son. And then display it for a year while he plays with it. Then tear it apart and build a new scene with some of the pieces and minifigures and toss the bulk in a storage bin. Then we can find all the pieces again and build it all over in five years. And then get tired of it and put it all back in the original box with the instructions and sell it used and complete on eBay for $700. It sure makes it a lot easier for me to spend $400 on a Lego set than a bottle of cabernet once I go through all of this in my head... To sum up, I think TLG wants to retire sets, loves seeing prices skyrocket in the secondary market, and will not do anything that is going to screw up its own sustainable profitability. What TLG has done over the past 10 years has seen the company rise from the ashes to become this massive leviathan of money-making. If they started re-releasing numerous old sets or making their products available forever (i.e. stopped retiring them after 2-4 years) then the consumers' mindsets would really change. And profits would go down. And that isn't going to happen.1 point

I ended up buying one today for $100 at ToysRus with the GC's bought using Ebay GC's. And coupons. I have 2 and will be content with that. One to Build and one to sell. I just love the set for the Dragon in it.1 point
