Success!!! Edit: Amazon just told me the seller requested the refund. Apparently, my firm letters to him finally convinced him to do the correct thing, as I'm sure he didn't want the police simultaneously investigating his claim of a stolen package and the same watch appearing on eBay a few miles away. Well, guess what? This appeared on my Amazon claim page later today: Success! The lesson? It pays to be persistent, I suppose.13 points

It's not just about collectibility and reselling. It could be about LEGO putting a half assed effort in and reissuing sets to save money. As I have said before, for every reissue, there is one less new and fresh set released. First it's one remake. Then two. Then three and so on. People might buy some of these remakes in large numbers, convincing LEGO to continue the process. Before you know it, LEGO will get a reputation of a company that produces inferior and dated products, which will hurt not only them, but all of us.7 points

In the absence of real information about who purchased the initial batch and that indeed LEGO had never planned to make more this is pure speculation (stating the obvious I know :)). While I somewhat agree that places like eBay have an impact on prices, the internet as a whole has completely changed the way "shopping" and "collecting" work. Anybody who's in the 30-40 year age range and didn't notice it should take their head out of their ass. Prior to the internet, market places such as eBay and Amazon didn't exist. There was no way for companies such as LEGO (and other large toy makers) to successfully market their products to a world wide audience. They had to rely on B&M stores which didn't exist everywhere or carry the same products or _____, etc. Back when the original Toy Shop was released online shopping was just starting it's meteoric climb (google growth in online shopping if you need facts). Of course everyone wants to know who those new people are and the fact is that it's a ton of middle class people from wealthier countries but it also includes a little bit of everyone from everywhere else. LEGO would be fools to not experiment and try to capitalize on what is essentially a new market for those older sets and they have regularly in recent years with awesome remakes of older sets (Sandcrawler, Technic MKII, Ferris Wheel) and even turning some nicer old sets into UCS models (Slave 1, Tie Fighter). Unless LEGO goes all in on re-releasing iconic sets in a predictable way or they get lazy and do 3-4 in a single year I think the worry is entirely overblown. And if I'm wrong, LEGO investing is a risk we are all taking. Those who choose to buy and hold for 5-10-20 years post retirement are taking the biggest risk. If you're trying to squeeze every last nickel of profit (as frankly it seems a number of people do) you've only yourself to blame. If you hoard and don't have a plan for selling then you've chosen to increase your risk and you've only yourself to blame. We all know there are dozen/hundreds/thousands of people out there happy to make $2 on a sale... I'm not one of them but I know I don't need to make 5x on every set to be successful with my own plan.6 points

I am not getting any of these, but even if everybody on this site didn't buy any, it still would be a top sold out seller by Christmas, until it comes back next year.5 points

The Sandcrawler was re-released 9 years after the first and was a completely different, way better model. It's really not an apt comparison5 points

Did anyone see this? A ghostbusters HQ set is rumored to be coming in 2016. http://www.groovebricks.com/lego-ghostbusters-firehouse-hq-75827-coming-in-2016/ LEGO Ghostbusters fans are in for a real treat next year! Over on YouTube, Just2Good – one of the most reliable sources when it comes to early LEGO set news – has states that there will be a LEGO Ghostbusters Firehouse HQ set coming in 2016! According to him, the set’s number will be 75827 and it will contain a whopping 4,600 pieces! Obviously, with such a high number of pieces comes a high price to pay. Just2Good stated that the Firehouse HQ will retail for a total of $350.00 USD. As for the release date, we should see this bad boy hitting the shelves on January 1st, 2016. In regards to the actual set, we still dont know the finer details. We don’t know exactly which minifigures will be included, however, we do know that it will be based off the original film rather than the new movie that’s coming out next year. Though details are lacking, I’m pretty sure many of you are quite hyped for this new set. As always, we should expect more details to come out the closer we get to the month of January. Perhaps, we might even get an early tease/look at the set at this year’s New York Comic Con which is going to be held between October 8-11.4 points

hmmm. So going from a 7 year old autistic girl to an ageless nephew. I guess he found that the autistic girl story was a little too much over the top to be believable. The real lesson here is to not leave LEGO out on your patio anywhere near this guy's neighborhood.4 points

I'm by no means an expert smoosher, but the tip that helped me was to find the accessories or smaller pieces and identify them that way. The trick is getting that identifying piece separated from the rest so you can clearly feel it.3 points

Lol...yeah...this darn phone can't keep up with my typing sometimes. I did just pllthe tigger on 1 death star Hoping amazon ships better than walmart .com. having to return 80% of what I ordered from them last week. I like boxes without dents/dings. TRU.com is the same way.. pack like crap. Only one so far that does a decent job is SAH...and even then they put the stinking freebies right on top the main box rather than to the side...ugh!!3 points

jaisonline Bricklink'd a 10179, now that's an adventure. I'm very close to putting together 1 or 2 custom classic BSG Cylon Raiders that are UCS size, so I'll post some pics when I'm done with that project. The Bat-Pod is on my list too.3 points

The Sandcrawler remake is fine. It's a much improved version over the old set. I expect LEGO to produce quality products like that. The Red 5 wasn't needed because the 7191 was an iconic set, but I could live with it. The Toy Shop is laziness in my opinion, or an experiment. As I have stated before, LEGO needs to be careful here. Scaring off the collectors and resellers with exact duplicates will damage the secondary market, which will in turn damage the primary market. Do you really think it's a coincidence that The LEGO Group's profits started increasing at the same time eBay's growth was exploding? When people realized a LEGO set was a valuable collectible, the company's profits skyrocketed. It might take some time, but corporate profits will be hurt if LEGO continues down this path.3 points

Had a scary moment today when my entire TRUTH life flashed before my eyes. Upon presenting my coupons at checkout the guy gave them a good hard look (which never happens at the store I go to). He says he's going to have to check on them as they've been having a lot of coupon issues lately - they may not be able to take them. He's radios his manager to come check it out. This is it, I think, my TRUTH days are over. I start reminiscing about all of the great buys I've made, the stacking, the gift cards, the magic of it all. All over. The manager comes up, takes a quick looks and says yeah, no problem. Sometimes it takes a close call like that for you to stop and really appreciate what a good thing you've got. I love you TRUTH, don't ever quit on me In other news, no credit card issues to reoprt3 points

I'm a terrible smoosher but I've done enough of this series that I'm getting pretty good at it. 1 second is hyperbole and clearly someone (likely someone very young) just trying to get a reaction (except for spider lady and maybe plant guy). It takes 1 second to pick up the pack. 5 seconds is possible for some others I suppose if you were super frantic and desperate. A few are going to take longer if you want to be 100% accurate. I'm very careful and in no rush so I probably take more like 15-30 seconds per. I smoosh at home while watching TV and return what I don't want to Target. I was unbearably slow at first and find it pretty easy now. You get used to the feel after a time. And my hands hurt a lot less now.2 points

If you are selling through eBay then there is really no reason to not use their shipping label tool. (as an individual) As far as eBay's discounted shipping rates. Try creating a shipping label through eBay and while doing so check the same shipment on the carrier's website. For USPS it's usually the same so it's a smoke and mirrors trick by ebay.2 points

1. Yes. It's called Excel (for ebay 13% + listing fees if any) 2. This is totally personal preference. Some BPers strictly offer free shipping on all of their items. If you do this I'd suggest looking into the cost of your furthest destination to determine max shipping cost. It can also vary based on the item your selling, your competition etc etc.2 points

I think you guys could possibly overestimate your effect on one set guys. I honestly think that big time investors are a very very small percentage of the overall selling volume for Lego. The general customer is going to be buying these in droves. I know it's going to be a huge success no matter what you big investors decide to do on this set. I don't understand everyone's ridiculous notion about the possible impending doom and gloom. Over the last couple of years, they are still constantly producing new and innovative sets. Out of the hundreds of sets they release in a single year, are you guys seriously that paranoid about even possibly a handful of re-issues/re-makes? It's a little dramatic if you ask me. And besides, in the grand scheme of things re-issues can be a good move for themselves because they've already made all their money. If they re-release a similar 10179 with some update techniques, I don't care much about the secondary market, Lego is getting my money. (And that includes other older sets as well.) Also one final note: Who here honestly believes that there will be this huge boycott amongst all you investors??? Like someone said earlier, money can do interesting things to people. I'm willing to put money on the fact that a good chunk of you are going to secretly buy up sets thinking no one else will and you will be one of the few who have them hoping for bigger returns. But I'm sure more than enough of you will do that and negate it anyways.2 points

I'm used to getting free surprise points from Kmart, but this is a new one... Anyone ever gotten an email with a free gift card? I don't know of any special they've been running where you can earn a gift card with a particular purchase, though I may have missed it. I have been buying a fair amount from them lately, but geez, thanks Kmart! I would gladly trade this $5 gift card for a consistent run of shipping boxes instead of the bags they send their Legos out in...2 points
