  1. On the topic of buying HH even now at 2x or more MSRP: Phase 1: My son got interested in Lego 7 months ago. I hadn't so much as looked at a Lego in 20 years. All I knew was he desperately wanted new Lego passenger train. We bought and built it together, along with station. Phase 2: I thought "wow this is so cool! These sets are WAY better than they were in my day!" Phase 3: I go online and start looking at what else Lego makes. I stumble onto Haunted House on Lego SAH (it was still up with a SO tag). Jaw drops. Heart rate increases. Phase 4 (also known as the self-denial phase): I do my research, see it is seeing on eBay for almost $400, and show my wife the set, but promise I would never spend $400 on a Lego set (because THAT would be crazy). Phase 5 (also known as "emersion from dark ages" syndrome. Also known as the angry wife phase): I buy a brand new HH for $350 shipped. It arrives in beautiful shape. Wife finds out. (Domestic episode deleted from post). The point of this whole diatribe was that the HH was the one and only retired set I just could never live without. I can pass on all the old Star Wars stuff, pirate ships, TH, FB, whatever. But this was a "biological imperative" - there was no way my heart/head combo was ever going to let me live a life that didn't contain the Lego 10228. I would have paid $500. Today I would pay $600 if I had to (and didn't own it). There is something magical about this set and I feel very strongly that there are THOUSANDS of people out about to have their ownHH moment in the next several years. This set will hit $500 two months, eclipse the Town Hall by October 2016, and leave TH in the dust in 2017. Just watch and mark my words. (Phase 6: new guy thinks he's smart enough to lay down epic predictions at 4:00am cuz he can't sleep)

  2. I love this set & think it looks great next to the PotC sets. It's the pride of my fridgetop fleet...

  3. The Admins and Mods on Eurobricks should lock that thread for stupidity. They are basically promoting LEGO counterfeits. Dopes.

  4. Are you looking about the eBay listing and calling it creative?? It's the exact same as the LEGO sets, just with bootleg bricks, and splitting the 10230 Mini Modulars set into seperate buildings.

  8. IMO, the whole point of the mini-modulars was for fans of the modular series to get to build a miniature version of the first five sets to display in a place where they didn't have 4+ feet of shelf space. I generally think fans of the modular series are Lego enthusiasts who know the difference between a genuine set and a knock-off. So I feel the existence of a knock-off version of that set has little effect on the value of the genuine mini-modulars.... That said, I must state what a blatant ripoff of intellectual property that crappy set really is. I mean, the whole modular line (mini, regular size, all of it) was created by Lego and unique to the Lego brand. We're not talking about a knock-off super heroes set where the characters exist outside of the Lego universe. We're not talking about a knock-off Friends set that could have been inspired by a Barbie dollhouse. This is a direct knock-off of the frggin' modulars! Please join me in reporting this listing to eBay...

  10. Not so much speculation as observation. The set has been SOLD OUT for a greater amount of time than it was orderable. Although SOLD OUT definitely does not equal RETIRED, SOLD OUT is a solid step towards EOL. If it was TOOS or OOS for 30 days no one would care. It came back from SOLD OUT for 3 days when people ordered them before going back to SOLD OUT. The sets that people received from shop at home from those orders had seal codes similar to ones picked up earlier indicating no additional production runs to create these sets. Every year a few sets will retire after only being available for few months. Its really not that surprising that Raptor Escape or Gallimumums Trap could go soon. When reviewing the JW theme on brickset, it is interesting to note that every JW set has about 2:1 WANT:OWN ratio. No other theme has every set with a greater want than own ratio. Not even Star Wars.

  11. They barely acknowledge human rights. That said, really happy with the gains this set has made. It's quietly steadily rising and if you bought them at the end when they were on sale for $55-60 or whatever they were at you're pretty happy right now. I've made this point earlier in the thread, but if/when another version comes out, (and there's 5 more modulars now) this set should take off because collectors will have to have the original as well. Can't wait.

  12. If you buy this one you might want to pick up a few Metal Beards Dual as well to bundle with it, the MB that comes with it isn't near as good as the dual. Just food for thought!

  13. If LEGO cared so much about counterfeits, why would they build a plant in China? It's not going to be long before many of the actual LEGO molds are in the hands of counterfeiters. This isn't rocket science. Looks like the fakes are improving rather quickly. Big Trouble in Little China...

  15. Canada and the U.S. normally have completely different numbers. That said, that's awesome that they are still cheaper. I see a QFLL opportunity here since they fall into the relatively cheap to ship category!

  21. Regardless, it looks cool, I wanted one, so I have a couple. It will do ok, completists will want it, but don't expect an easy double. I actually think reviews and the literal sticker shock may have hurt this one.

  22. Just sold a bundle! HH, Castle, Train and a few smaller sets for $750! Gave the guy a break, since his wife was going to use them to decorate and he drove 60+ miles to pick them up! Wish I had more of these! People are now just going to realize how awesome they are doe display!

  23. I totally agree. The bigger problem is the company becool. There has to be some kind of copyright or patent infringement here.

  24. Totally random and lucky. Scored my first Craigslist deal today. Craziness to get it too. Glanced at the BrickPicker Craigslist tool during a meeting, saw the ad, texted, said they still had it, stayed in meeting for 2.5 more hours thinking I was going to get ninja'd. Told the guy I couldn't make it until later in the evening, since my son had baseball practice. Baseball practice ran long, of course it was 2.5 hrs, ended at 8:30, drove home, dropped him off, drove 45 minutes. I texted throughout practice, kind of letting him know what was going on, but didn't get to meet him until 9:30pm. Nice guy and understanding. 10188 Death Star (complete w/ all minifigures pictured) I might be missing a Royal Guard, not sure yet. I also saw the interrogation droid while sorting through. 10195 - Republic Dropship w/ AT-OT Walker (complete w/ minifigures) 7646 - Mars Mission: ETX Alien Infiltrator All for $300

  25. Yeah, at about the time they remade "Tron". I was never a huge movie watcher in the first place, but they've gotten even worse as years have gone by. I mean, when some dumb movie with Melissa McCarthy is #1 you know it's gone downhill. And seriously, another Mall Cop movie?

  28. Possible. And I think you're doing the right thing. Let him let you know what's missing, and let him know you'll take care of getting the parts to him. Hopefully you can source it from your own parts or from one seller on Bricklink.

  30. Polybags aside, because many of them do have a short shelf life, we can count the number of very short production run sets from the last few years on one hand. They have been nearly impossible to predict amid the hundreds of other sets available during this time. Raptor Escape could join this group but I also think it has a couple things going against it that could prevent it from truly skyrocketing: 1) The Raptor Rampage will still be available and has the main character minifigures. I think many parents will buy this set instead and call it a day. Or they'll buy 2 of that set if their kid really wants 4 raptors. I'm betting the RR is on more wish lists than RE is anyway. 2) Sets like the Zombies and Arctic Supply Plane were here and gone before resellers had enough time to react and scoop up a decent amount of them. This has helped contribute to the very high prices on the secondary market since the supply is so low. It seems like resellers have had a larger window to buy RE in bulk and I think that will keep the ceiling lower for a while. Obviously this set is a no-brainer purchase at retail wherever and whenever you can get it. There's some risk in holding if a new run is coming, but it certainly has room to grow if it gets marked as retired with no new stock.

  32. I also have the same issue - seems like I'm always shipping to Silicon Valley (Menlo Park, Mountain View) from western MA. One thing I have started to do is reprice my stuff throughout the day. Early in the morning east cost time, I drop prices by a few bucks and then raise the prices again around 6-7 pm . Definitely seeing an improvement in shipping and also increased sale volume which I wasn't expecting. Thanks to exciter1 for this strategy.

  35. Talked to LEGO CS today and she said they are on the wait list for RE and once they receive a stock date from Denmark they would offer the set again on the website. She said she believed it would be available again, but I don't know if that really means anything. It could be done or they could make more eventually. We'll have to wait and see.

  39. Good price. Doubling your money is never bad but, unless you have a glut of them, I would hold as this set is still showing consistent upward movement and there is nothing better to reinvest in just now.

  40. Everyone remember this set I bought of off Goodwill couple weeks back? A couple of you ask how it went. It finally arrived today. Oh, Huskers...you may be more right than you know. So, guess what happened? They sent the wrong order. Here's my auction (35 lbs) And here an auction for 31 lbs that ended at the exact same time. If you look over the bid history, you can see the guy who won the 31 lbs bid on my auction, too. He may be well aware what might be in my lot. So, now it's a waiting game. What will Goodwill say? (I fired off an email tonight). Will the other guy realize the mistake, and be honest, and do a swap (at their cost, of course)? Or, will he conveniently be quiet on the subject? I've got to admit the lot he got is pretty darn good. I sorted through it tonight (with some help from California92563) - next time I'm live streaming it on Periscope for all of you. We found a few Indiana Jones sets, Egypt, old Adventurers, Mars Mission, Alpha Team, 90s Underwater, old Harry Potter. It's definitely a "win" of a lot! Fantastic deal for $111 for 31 lbs of bulk. I'll keep everyone updated...

  43. If they can copy "Battle for Ninjago City", they can copy a full-size modular building. Of course, the review for the fake version of that set on his Facebook page says the parts bags smell strongly of chemicals, the pieces need to be washed and dried before building (toxic to the touch, I guess; I'm sure they met Chinese safety standards though), and the minifigure quality is so bad you should just forget about them. It's easy to laugh at these guys right now, but the quality is improving and plastic building blocks aren't exactly the most high tech of products.
