I'm approaching my anniversary on Brickpicker, and wanted to share a few things I've learned over the last year. For full disclosure, I wasn't new to Lego reselling when I joined, but I had just started accumulating sets again for the first time in four or five years. I'll (try to) keep it simple: 1. This site, it's forums, and most members, are wonderful resources for those willing to listen. I'm very thankful for the Macks, mods, and veterans for what they are willing to share. I've learned the value of discount gift cards, Target RC magic online, "rollovers" (buying gift cards with gift cards), "slow and steady wins the race," and more. 2. It's not about you. Or me. Or any of us alone. Ego is a killer. It feeds emotion and blinds reason--two things any investor/entrepreneur should avoid like the plague. 3. Having a plan and following that plan (most of the time) is the best strategy. It helps curb emotional spending and keeps the focus on the goal. Revisit and evaluate the plan often. Is it working? 4. A good plan takes timing into consideration. There is a time to horde and a time to sell. A time to flip and a time to be patient. I've learned what works for someone else does not necessarily work for me. We all have different resources (time, money, space), and must use them accordingly. 5. And, not an original by any means, but if it isn't making you money or making you happy, why do it? I'm fortunate enough to gain both from Lego. Thanks to Brickpicker, I've learned the value of exclusives, shipping sales at Staples, and what Raise is all about. I've avoided ban hammers and scammers. I've started to build something I hope will grow and adapt with me for years because, let's all face it, investing/reselling Lego is an changing marketplace. It really always has been and always will be. Thanks to all, and happy picking.19 points

Totally random and lucky. Scored my first Craigslist deal today. Craziness to get it too. Glanced at the BrickPicker Craigslist tool during a meeting, saw the ad, texted, said they still had it, stayed in meeting for 2.5 more hours thinking I was going to get ninja'd. Told the guy I couldn't make it until later in the evening, since my son had baseball practice. Baseball practice ran long, of course it was 2.5 hrs, ended at 8:30, drove home, dropped him off, drove 45 minutes. I texted throughout practice, kind of letting him know what was going on, but didn't get to meet him until 9:30pm. Nice guy and understanding. 10188 Death Star (complete w/ all minifigures pictured) I might be missing a Royal Guard, not sure yet. I also saw the interrogation droid while sorting through. 10195 - Republic Dropship w/ AT-OT Walker (complete w/ minifigures) 7646 - Mars Mission: ETX Alien Infiltrator All for $3009 points

Well sure, have your Bowie and Iron Maiden. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders... you forgot the Dance of Joy (also 80's). If we're doing the retirement dance it should be joy5 points

Gee... has anyone pointed out that technically this fellow isn't a Gargoyle at all but rather a Grotesque? His mouth would hafta be open for it to be a truly functional Gargoyle, Gargoyles are architecturally functional in that they divert water from the structure they rest upon whilst a Grotesque is basically purposed just for aesthetics. :-)5 points

I would slap the word "retired" somewhere on the listing title and sell it for $124 points

I already have a new loophole for the revised system it is working now just need to wait until 9/15 to confirm. It is very complex so I will be selling a pamphlet on ebay with the step by step instructions for $10 with a YMMV caveat.4 points

Not sure if news or not, but the Seacow is now "call to check" on CAN/US LEGO Shop at Home. However given the events these past weeks.. i'm not sure i'd put too much weight on this status.4 points

Pirate Ship Ambush 79008 for $95 after fees and shipping. Average buy-in was $60-65 so not a bad return in ~12 months.4 points

There's a little bit of craziness around this set right now on Amazon. 60059 - City: Logging Truck - $553 points

Got a Brick Bounty for $63 today at Toys R Us. Went to pay for a City Advent Calendar. When the computer wouldn't let them sell it to me, she offered me an additional 20% off anything on top of any coupons and TRUTH. $70 BBs don't happen in SoCal so I'll take $63. Figured it'd be tough to get it at that price again.3 points

I don't see that 1000 selling in the EU on its own this year at full retail, I think some clearance will happen soon on this set one way or another.3 points

I think this was pretty creative. It's not my listing, I just stumbled upon it. If this isn't allowed, please just remove just the link & not the entire post & pic. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEGO-71010-Minifigures-Monster-Series-14-Gargoyle-2-minifigs-with-custom-gate-/171896224336?nma=true&si=czqDJITzz4chPkRoYDxb5KKE2dQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l25573 points

In my area the airport fire truck has disappeared. I am "gambling" this will be a great seller coming Xmas. Short life, uniqueness and awesomnes will make this a winner in my book. There is nothing wrong with investing in City. Just you have to choose the right ones. Hopefully I did.2 points

I wish I could send some GC love north. I've suggested discount gift cards to friends (for things other than Lego), and they just look at me like I'm crazy. Yes, I am. Crazy like a Vulpes vulpes.2 points

I just had the veterans group ask me to ship them free of charge 75055. I replied kindly by telling them to contact Lego community relations. Replied to me with a lengthy response how Lego only donates minimally and is taking longer than expected on their request. On a side note...had this same set up on CL to see if anyone would bite at the reduced price. Open box, sealed bags. Had some crazy guy e-mail me, telling me I only had $30 worth of Legos and I was a scam artist and I need to "change my diaper". I will refrain from sharing the other obscenities he provided. Usually I do not reach the crazies on CL, but this time took the cake...2 points

Add this to my list of: "Things i wish Canada had more of" I remember getting a TRU Gcard at %15 off once... ever since then finding ANY form of giftcard that can be applied to Lego at a discount is damn near impossible here (Outside of local classifieds that is).2 points

Yes, the same (204-00-1379). Many Targets are keeping them under a sign in the back that reads: Do not put out until 9/1. I find it a little disturbing that I now have this DPCI # memorized...2 points

Coupons should work. There's similar "markdown" on 42009 MK2... TRU price $239.99, marked down to 219.99. I used a 25% off coupon on that one in my store a couple weeks ago, and it worked fine. I think as long as price ends in X.99... you're all set.2 points

Polybags, minifigs, non Lego items like Funkos. Even if you break even or take a small loss it is worth it if you plan on ramping up at Christmas and quick flipping.2 points

They have builders who are obsessed with innovating by nature - whomever was involved with designing this one was being tortured by restraint. There is no way that every effort wasn't made to create exactly what we have here - this was by design. The reasons remain unclear.2 points

I win today. On a background, if you don't know: These little goats are only in one retired set and highly sought after. Check sold listings and the routinely go for $30-$40 each. No one will pay this much for these. Everyone whose listed them more than $15 hasn't sold a single one. I've watched them for over a year and i get that you want to profit from the goats but it isn't going to happen. Im sorry that im ranting about this but frankly im sick of the price fixing on the lego goats. No one wants to pay more than $10 for one of these. Good luck. I hope you find a rich/sucker/fool who will buy them from you. Again I apologize for this email. Ive been drinking and am frustrated that people will only sell these stupid goats for stupid prices. Sure ive got $55 but on principal i wont pay that much for a tiny bit of plastic. Please block me so i wont bother you again. Have a good day. Reply Reply with off2 points
