Typically I don't take the time to get on every forum, but since there were so many sales within hours of listing the pre-order, I assumed investors were responsible. Hopefully I can address a few concerns briefly. I have attached a photo that will hopefully show more clearly how everything is shipped. Labels are affixed to the boxes exactly as they are received, and larger orders will even receive double boxing. We pride ourselves with never opening the original shipping boxes. Anything that looks remotely damaged will be opened and parted out, so you receive the best boxes. Fortunately we have increased supply for this series, anticipating a higher demand (as is typical when there are figures involving an upcoming holiday), but that is very true. We have expanded to Amazon this summer as well, and if sales continue the way they are over the next 48 hours, you will see the price increase. Shipping date is expected to be around the 17th or 18th of September to be more precise, but because we cannot make promises on that date, it is stated as "late September."12 points

Just wish they would have done a Holiday Train rehash. That would have made more sense on so many levels. Maybe in 2016?8 points

Guys, there is a huge difference between the two sets. The Christmas tree is on the other side of the box.8 points

A guy I work with has a 3D printer and was nice enough to print some swords and shields for me that I picked out on Thingiverse. Pretty neat stuff. I created some water slide decals with various artwork for the shield emblems and put a few coats of paint and protectant on them ... Here are my Dragon Dogs (heh) ... I made some with the sigils from Game of Thrones ... I don't think 3D printing is any threat to Lego. The strength and detail just don't match up to injection molds, but it is handy for prototyping or just playing around.6 points

Here's a good photo comparison - 10199 on top, 10249 below: ** Edit... new one comes with a brick separator... Well that does it, new set for the win!! **6 points

Is this a joke? What a blatant ripoff of 10199. They might as well call it a re-issue. Glad I don't have any 10199's anymore, but this is a sad sight to this line when so much else could happen with it.6 points

good observation. It comes in the same size box as the Ferris Wheel but weighs 25% more. I'm tearing mine open now but I can see this being a hard set to get shipped MISB. 13 numbered bags one bag per number except two of bag 2 also an unnumbered bag with some plates, boulders and the shadow box screen, 1 loose plate and one thick bound instruction book with cardboard backing. Only 14 stickers. Preposterous, and he's doing it twice ;)4 points

Let's stop discussing religion before it gets too out of hand. How about this instead: I KNOW the REAL reason they rehashed the Winter Toy Shop: to put a helicopter in the set !!! Ding Ding Ding we have a winner A toy helicopter is still a helicopter4 points

I have no problem with this re-release, other than the point made by Huskers and a few others about wanting to add to their collection. What I read is resellers grumbling that their 5 year holds are only worth 370% of the original MSRP and that future sets might appreciate less (say 300%), Well TOO BAD! There are dozens of big winners out there, including sets from the last 12-24 months and this winter set may no longer be one of them. Lego is actually clever to rerelease this because they have (presumably) grown significantly in the last 5 years and a lot of their target audience do not have this set and are going to buy it; it's a great set. I am impressed that Lego kept the cost at $80US because that only represents a 4.9% annual increase from 2009 and this set is a good bargain compared to other similarly sized sets and you get a lot of play for that $80. This hurts a minority of consumers, primarily those interested in 5-10 year holds with large quantities, but if we look at the big picture, instead of the myopic reseller view, we can see that Lego is not going to rerelease everything after 2-3 years and all of the updated sets have been released far enough in the future for the majority to cash in the original sets at a substantial profit to reinvest. I looked through some popular sets and the only major downside is that the newer releases are appreciating at a slower rate than the older sets and resellers will simply have to adapt and sell their 40% CAGR sets for some 25% CAGR sets. It's a little more work and a little less return but the sky isn't falling. I simply hope that next year's winter set is a new one so that I may add to my scene and I suppose I need to dust off an old set to prepare for eBay as I don't see a reason to keep it any longer.4 points

I'm not pissed because of reseller scumminess, I'm pissed because we already have this exact set. I look forward to these every year to add to the village at our house and set it up every Christmas. Why buy one when you already have it? They could do a ski lodge, some sort of hot cocoa shop/starbucks type, little old style fire/police station since they love those so much. I mean, it's the same f$^@#ng set! I totally understand the re-issues with Star Wars and the like, there's only so many recognizable vehicles in that universe and when you put out a couple dozen a year, you're going to have overlaps. But this is a once-a-year set and they are already giving us re-issue crap. Including Santa's Toy Shop last year, we now have 3 toy buildings in 7 WV sets, no imagination.4 points

I dont have the old set so I see this as a win for newer collectors Well some elements seem to be different they are small and subtle I will be picking it up for sure4 points

Maybe Lego looked back at their sales data and found the # of sets sold 4 years ago vs a set sold last year has a significant difference. They must realized by re-releasing a similar set, it will benefit the majority children/collectors. Personally, I am happy to see this set as this was way before I got into this game. I will be sure to grab one for personal collection this Christmas.3 points

It's free money for TLG. Minimal design, effort, it will sell like crazy Form those looking to add to their winter village, I'm surprised there has been minimal talk for the new creator changing seasons house3 points

What happened to innovation ?? I thought that was LEGO's strongest suit. 10249 is the exact same design as 10199 with a few new pieces added to justify the $20 price increase. I would have been ok with a bigger Toy shop building or bigger and more festive Christmas tree This just screamed laziness. I am just going to say it. This is the beginning of the end3 points

That's not what I meant.... On a personal note, I like it because I don't have 10199. On an overall note, I agree rehashing with a few updated bits is lame from a creativity standpoint. I don't ever plan on being a long-long term investor (5+ years). I'm more of a 2-3 year holder. I also rarely have more than 2-3 of any single set so my exposure is never very broad (exception: I still have lots of RIs). So c'est la vie on a rehash and we move on! Maybe they were too busy recreating 10179 to have time for a new winter set.3 points

the ROI of this one might very well be capped by 10199 prices. not sure if new minifig and plate prints are enough. when i first saw the box of 10249, i thought it was a photoshop joke using 10199. i'll tell you one thing, 10249 is gonna be another hot selling set and prob will be sold-out by mid-Nov3 points

Hi I consider this the price to play. And I get to feel out the elements and perfect my technique in the comfort of my home rather standing around store full of distractions hoping little Timmy doesn't kneecap me when he realized i have the last zombie cheerleader in my hand. If I can't figure out what's inside within 20 seconds, I rub them on my genitals to secure extra time. The point is, you have to plan ahead3 points

Having posts hidden or edited by hypocrit mods? Not sure that's what you meant, but yes part of being a mod is to encourage people to post in a civil and respectful way. It's not just about cleaning up double posts and moving posts to appropriate threads. > When posts contain offensive language, they will be removed or edited. > When posts themselves are offensive or inappropriate, they will be removed or edited. But believe it or not, we're human just like you guys (yes even stephen_rockefeller is human) and make mistakes or overlook something. However, when a member flies off the handle for being asked to stop discussion on a particular subject or takes offense and publicly attacks people they're taking it a step too far. If people don't like to have their posts edited, they could just stop swearing and yelling with their keyboard. <this isn't directed at you ... it's just a general statement that seems to need to be made every so often about just being respectful.> ON TOPIC I've had some time to digest this and I really don't see what the big deal is... I mean this honestly and no offense to those who enjoy buying the new winter set each year. I know LEGO is about the "cool sets" and we love them too, but LEGO is also about BUILDING from the parts you have. I think we should have a contest.... Maybe I'll put up a Santa's Workshop for a prize - build a better winter set that would retail for the same price as 10249!!2 points

With this move Lego has devalued their brand to some extent. To some (myself included), a Lego set is more than just a toy or display piece, it is an investment that is almost certain to appreciate when the set retires. This appreciation is part of why Lego can get the prices they ask for their sets. It would have made more sense to release a set that could have been tied into last year's fairly small Santa's Workshop and made that North Pole scene larger.2 points

Yeah sure! With that message they leave us all in insecurity. Which is worse than knowing your faith. The most dangerous side of this is what our customer base or target group will do with this knowledge. Would they not think twice before spending big $ on a retired set? Thinking maybe Lego could do a remake in a couple of years? If the new Death Star will become also a copy of the current one we can close the lights and go home. I was already pissed about the Technic Truck and all the other "refreshes". Indeed it seems the designers are suffering from a designers block. Makes me feel like I did not get the memo and Lego went public on the stock market. Then you could expect these pathetic actions. I find this rehash/refresh/remake rather disgusting! I do not own the old one. And will certainly not buy the new one. I will boycot this set. Hopefully other true resellers and investors will follow my lead. So we can get a sense and idea of our influence and market share. So maybe they will stop to this ridiculous and pathetic actions.2 points

Such a win win for lego. If all the resellers/hoarders/investors decide NOT to buy, maybe it was their intention. Doesnt matter, because they will sell tons of it around Christmas on a set that doesn't take too much time and effort to set up. If all the resellers/hoarders/investors decide to buy, then its more money for Lego. This game has just gotten tougher.2 points

I did not know if they wanted it for just one year or if it was a multi year deal. I do know they went after Despicable Me and did not get that deal so they needed something to plug the Spongebob void ASAP. I would expect at least 2 waves. 2018 I have no clue. It seems these cartoon licenses get passed around all the building block manufacturers. BTW I just saw Lite Brix has Peanuts and that is a theme I wish TLG got even more than Scooby Doo.2 points
