  1. The only retired items that stand out are: 21110 Research Institute 60001 Fire Chief Car 60005 Fire Boat 60010 Fire Helicopter 60061 Airport Fire Truck 60020 Cargo Truck 10662/10682 Creative Bucket and Suitcase 401xx Seasonal sets (Valentine's, Easter Eggs) 71005 Simpsons Minifigures 60054 Light Repair Truck 60026 Town Square Some of the small 2014 Friends sets are listed. Same with the series 5 friends polybags (I think it is 5), it has a Penguin, Orangutan, and a Tiger IIRC. A bunch of smaller clearanced sets, such as the friends nameplate for your desk. Everything else looks similar to the last update and this was basically a system/creator and City update. Almost everything that was retired has not been available from shop at home in 2015. I have a post a couple of pages prior to this that listed most of the large March retirees.

  2. I really hope people part out the dimension packs because I want Slimer and the Marshmallow Man. http://brickset.com/sets/71233-1 http://brickset.com/sets/71241-1 These will finally get me to build an Ecto-1 and put it on display. Awesome!

  3. LEGO Creative Tower on amazon for $109.42 including shipping fee. Got extremely lucky, shipping to a buyer less than 90 minutes from where I live - came out to less than $8. Buy in was $30 from walmart's black friday blowout last year. Down to my last 4.

  4. I thought this might be a good topic for some of us and maybe we can keep a running list. Here are some of the new sets that are not marked "Hot Buy" or appear to work with coupons. 5. Pretty sure those horns on the terror dog were also on the cow skull in Silver Mine from Lone Ranger. As for these packs? Pure gold. Everyone that has an Ecto-1, and even those that don't yet that are fans are going to want Slimer and Stay Puft. Are you kidding me? Stay Puft Marshmallow Man as a minifig? Awesome.

  6. I rearranged some bricks to make more room up front. The sitting Scooby fig can easily sit up front now. I'm still tinkering to see if fitting 4 figs up front is a possibly w/o gutting the original design. The camera and flashlight are still there but facing forward and backward instead of left to right the 2 light bley elements are the ones I added to secure the roof better (1x1) and borrowed two 2x2 lime plates (can be seen behind both outside elbows of Shaggy and Fred) from the Plane set.

  7. KMart erred in my favor. After Target cancelled my Scooby plane, I went looking for another source. I had $10 in SYW rewards and there was a coupon for $10 in SYW rewards for spending $50. So I decided to order 3 planes and use SYW points to get it down to $50 exactly and replenish my $10. Today the box arrived, in perfect shape, and there were 7 sets in ther, not just the 3 I ordered. The packing slip says quantity 7, but the cost shown is for 3. No idea what happened, but not going to question it. It makes up for all the pancakes I've had delivered from them. I'll likely give a couple (or equivalent sets if these end up being at all scarce) to toys for tots this fall so I dont abuse the good karma :)

  8. Buy a new set to save. Buy a clean used set to build. It saves money and space and prevents "Builder's Remorse."

  10. I built the 75059 Sandcrawler over the last 5 days and it is a thoroughly enjoyable build, except for bags 9 and 16. I really appreciated how the designers created the paneling and the guts of the vessel; I even enjoyed connecting the 300 pieces of tread! However, I am indifferent to the end result and this set appears to be one where the sum is less than the parts. This set is not worthy of "UCS" in my opinion as it lacks the display value of more recent sets: R2, SSD, and Slave 1 are examples of superior models and it isn't nearly as impressive as some older exclusives. Overall, I still recommend building one if you are a builder.

  13. One thing I've learned in life is that if I have trouble making a decision and keep thinking about doing something (sane and legal) a lot, I need to just do it. The peace of mind and satisfaction that follows is priceless. I would apply that same simple philosophy to your valuable unopened sets. I bet there are a few that just keep calling to you... in my opinion, it sounds like finances are no problem, so if you originally bought them to build, then there is no harm in building them even though you instantly lose a lot of value. Another option is to check for used copies of the set for (often) half or less the price and "trade down" while using the extra moolah for whatever else you like. I imagine there are also several of your sets that have lost some appeal over the years, or perhaps you don't have space to display everything you bought... maybe you can "weed out" the least desirable candidates and simply sell them for fun and profit.

  15. Ha. Go through this all the time! I'm out of shelf space and while I want to sell it all and reclaim some money, I want to keep nearly all of them as well. It's a never-ending battle!

  17. Forgot to post this when I got home from work. I had 2 DS with weights that were off so I opened them both and got the same counts on both bags. Built one so I know this is correct (turns out my scale was off): Death Star (10188): Box 1: #1 - 7, #2 - 5, #3 - 4 Box 2: #4 - 6, no # - 2 Box 3: #5 - 8, #6 - 4 Box 4: #7 - 11

  18. yeah, would be nice to fit the girls up there with Fred or 4 of them. Getting 4 minifigs to fit will be tough unless the length can be increased 3 studs. I'm also thinking about ditching the stove and sink in the rear to make more room. Scoob and Shaggy were usually eating back there. I can't also understand the tape deck in-between the computer LCDs.

  20. Posted on Brickset, from member Grogall, who seems to have a good reputation in the community: "2nd version of Winter Village Toy Store (Nope) 2nd Version of Holiday Train (Nope) 2nd Version of the Workshop (Nope) I can only say it's sweet! :-P" speculation seems to be a candy shop or a gingerbread house based on his use of the word sweet being interpreted as a clue.

  24. Most of my collection is MISB, just like many of the toys over the years I've left MOC or MIB. I enjoy the hunt as well as the fact that buying usually what I like I wont mind if the value doesn't go up. I do love to build though and have many sets I've bought and built and MOD'd over the years. And now with my daughter we build with her LEGO all the time. I think there is a balance between investment and collection that I agree is personal and is different for everyone. I cant say I walk that line very well but give it a try anyhow.........lol. Someone mentioned earlier about "weeding things out" that I totally agree with. I know I've bought multiple sets of themes that Im not in love with and those can def go. The fact that they are way up is just a bonus.............=) PS. If they ever do a complete steam punk line of LEGO Im F'd.............lol

  25. Current Lego exclusives set investment calls for highly patient and loaded$ individuals. Everyone thought buying exclusives would double their money in a year or 2. Not anymore as the Lego investment game has inched closer to many. Case in point, the FB is trading at $350 avg on ebay. Most got them with tax for $215. thats $135 profit, then minus the $50 ebay fee, that leaves you with $85 and not to mention some desperate sellers that's willing to fork over the shipping. $85 on a $215 investment does look good if you didn't have to wait. This set is approx 20 month eol. (Thats 20 months + the months prior to retirement...for some, 2 years) So, Lets go back to "doubling" your money, You would have to sell the FB at $500-$510 (Maybe next Christmas and that would be 36 months+) Now, Imaging how many PS are sitting inside closets. Please do not retort the numbers with YOUR "buy In" price. "Yeah, BUT I got mine for $85 with 8 coupons, a gold chain and my initial CC sign up reward points."

  28. 'The value to your collection' is a very arbitrary and personal thing and is something you will have to decide for yourself. As for ripping open sets you bought for investment... I find it's best to decide whether a set is for investment or personal use before you buy. Be comfortable with that decision before you get your wallet out or you will always end up with this conflict. I don't even see my investment sets as Lego sets. To me they are just boxes with a monetary value. If you want to buy a set to build then do that, and always open it (and the bags) before it goes EOL, even if you're not going to build it right away. That way if you want to get more MISB sets for investment you still have time to do that and won't have the conflict of opening a valuable post-EOL set. I'm not sure if you mean your collection is MISB sets or sets you've built. If it's MISB sets, then that is an investment however you look at it. You've put money into it and it has a monetary value. Otherwise it's just a bunch of pretty boxes. If it's a collection of built sets, then don't wait until a set is EOL before you decide you want one to build. I think this is where your problem is. If you are waiting for prices to rise and looking to sell, then you are an investor, and those sets are investments. You need to keep your collecting and investing separate. Or at least, approach them as separate things.

  29. You sound like my wife. And she wonders why I leave piles of bricks for her to step on at night between the bed a bathroom........LOL The only problem is the things that take my mind off LEGO are other hobbies.....Comics, toys, SS, GG etc.........

  42. I don't go to the Lego store often. I was just there yesterday after not having gone in the past 4-5 months. Saw the UCS Slave I on display and it gets me every time how impressive the set looks. I know it's still early for this set but I think this one's a winner all the way. Will try to get as many as I can with as much discounts/promos over the next year or so.

  43. These next two have blown me away! By the incredibly talented Mike Doyle. Was tempted to post this in the haunted house forum. Enjoy! His second Lego piece was a Victorian home with an overgrown garden and a tree that had collapsed on to the roof. This took more than 450 hours to build and approximately 60,000 pieces of Lego.

  45. Some of these are really neat, but I do find it a little unnecessary in some of them to cover all studs with tiles. It makes the end-model look un-lego. As for eldorado remake. I prefer the original.
