I had someone ask me for some pictures of my 10179 wall mounted and directed him to this thread, but he told me the pictures were broken/not found.. and so they are! Maybe the forum move broke/lost them or wherever i hosted them from (can't remember) had a problem. I've taken a couple new photos as i can't find the old ones. I have not touched the thing in almost a year now. It shows no signs of warping or anything. Still the best display piece i have imo. everyone we have over loves it. I can't edit my OP to re-include them; so i'll just add them here. If a mod wants to/can move them to the OP that would be great (not sure that's possible).11 points

Hey mods, can you change these dates to 2015 and move these over to the Death Star thread?9 points

My son (he's 7) noticed me packing up some Jurassic World sets yesterday. "Don't sell these daddy, we need to build them." I do have all the sets put aside for him, but he doesn't need to know that. I keep telling him he has to sit through the original "Jurassic Park" before we build any JW sets. He had me turn it off during our last attempt.7 points

We've seen most of these already, but this appears to be the official checklist.7 points

Sales and prices on Bricklink are strong which I find very interesting. Maybe this is a sign of collectors/builders finally scrambling to acquire this set before the price skyrockets and the supply just isn't there to keep the price down? Appreciation doesn't usually take off this quickly on Bricklink. It's usually Amazon first, eBay a few weeks or months later, and then Bricklink a few months after that (depending on the set, of course). This set is exhibiting unusual behavior compared to other sets that are on the brink of retirement (R5 and PS, for example). I also don't recall other sets doing this last year (SSD, R2 and HH were more of a gradual climb...TH too). Lowest in the US is $550 (New). That's a 38% increase from MSRP. Something to keep an eye on.3 points

These look awesome. I've never bought sealed cases of CMF's before, but I think I will with this series. Also, the thing I like most from looking at the pictures is that each one seems to have a very distinguishable part, which should make smooshing a breeze. One more thought...not that the HH needs a bonus to increase its value or appeal to a potential buyer, but what do you think about including a full set of these figures with a HH. List as an auction at just a little above the market rate for the HH and watch the bids fly!3 points

The six stages of DS investing... Complacency - I could be slowing building my inventory of 10188s but they take up a lot of space and I don't have the money to tie up. Panic - Oh crap 10188 is showing sold out! Lube up the CC, Ima' get 'em while they're hot! Denial - Listen, it's not coming back, 'Sold Out' is just a place holder until they mark it retired. It's like the exact same thing with different letters. Anger - WTF do they mean they're making more?? It's retired! I'm taking this s**t back! Depression - Lego investing really sucks, there's no big money anymore and what little I can make is gonna disappear when this bubble pops. Acceptance - I'm actually happy I got these 10188s. I can make some space at the bottom of my bed and just skip lunch for the next few months.3 points

Not that I think these are in great demand or good for investing, but I noticed that 30261 Lone Ranger Tonto's Campfire is available at Books a Million for $4.99. http://www.booksamillion.com/p/Lego-Lone-Ranger-Tontos-Campfire/Lego/F673419196802?id=62726013313422 points

Hey Guys! So a couple months ago i started the long painful process of brickbuilding the 10179. I had many of the parts already from having a very large collection of light gray pieces, and i had been starting to really see the imperfections and scale issues with my 7965 Falcon on display (granted it's not a display model by any means, but it was better than spending thousands for the 10179). 7965 was also the set that brought me out of the dark ages. After trying for month to get a used one on CL or Kijiji, i caved and decided to start. Once finished i realized it was much larger than i thought, and had trouble finding a spot to display it. When i finally did find a spot to display it flat; it really didn't seem to do it justice and i began researching other ways to go about displaying it. Typically i'd use 2x4 clear bricks to prop ships up into more interesting angles, but 10179 would just be too heavy for that. Sure enough there were a couple search results of people mounting it on the wall, and one specifically on YouTube that had it mounted in a way that gave it mobility by using a TV wall mount. I decided this is what i was going to go for vs. a static mount as it allowed it to move into many angles, and the user had a YouTube video with great images of what i'd have to do. This took a good few weeks to complete as there were countless issues that arose. The YouTube video does not give exact details, and finding similar/like parts he used wasn't possible. In the end my mount construction resembles his, but is certainly a bit different. While the 10179 has a very strong inner frame; there are many parts i had to reinforce with more technic liftarms and even rubber bands (i'm looking at you rear underside section). I do believe i was able to find close to the exact same mount he used, but my brackets and the LEGO part of it have been constructed differently. I also added an RGB strip to the back engines to add some flare And no it has not fallen yet haha, but i do check it every so often to see if anything is bending/giving. The first night of it being up i was dreaded of being woken up by a terrifying crash I intend to paint the LED power cord the same colour as the wall to hide it. Anyways i thought some of you might be interested in seeing it. I think this really does the model justice (or at least saves some space!). ** Edit: forum upgrade seems to have lost the pictures... go to this post for new ones. **1 point

This is correct for 2014 but has been updated for 2015. If you go to a TRU and check the display or pamphlet advertising TRU cc, it specifically states that 10% cannot be combined with 15% offer.1 point

Like Children of the Corn? I don't remember how old I was, but I was probably 8 or 9. Now THAT was a scary movie for a kid!! I haven't decided if my oldest (almost 8 ) is ready for JW...1 point

Heh... my 7 year old is the same way. We were watching the original on TV a couple weeks ago, and he had to keep getting up and leaving the room... he would go back into my office (which still has a long distance view of the TV) and sort of walk back and forth by the doorway, glancing at the TV, but trying not to be seen. I'd say "Hey Buddy! What's up? Is this a little too scary?" He'd say, "I'm NOT scared!" "Then what are you doin' in there?" "Nothin'. I'm just a little tired, that's all." Poor guy. I remember when I was a kid, the scarier the movie the better. But when I was 7, about the scariest movie I ever saw was "The Birds". And if I saw a movie where I guy got eaten by a dinosaur, it was probably like One Million Years B.C., and it was so fake and puppet-like, it was laughable, even for a kid. Movies are just scarier these days. I've decided I need to be a better dad, and be a little more sensitive... he's just not ready for some things yet.1 point

if anyone was wondering, cuz I was- the first time credit card use 15% will stack with the current coupon 20/25% off, and it can be combined with partial gift card pay. My first time stacking stuff at toys R us today, and it was a success! Thanks to whoever mentioned making the donation to Alex's Lemonade. Made a donation and cashier was super happy, and had no issues with any part of it. Bought: Technic MKII crane for 120.35 out the door 2 space needles for 16.77 each out the door 1 mystery mansion scooby doo for 58.91 out the door, and 2 mystery machines for 27.28 each out the door. I realized that I could have maybe made more separate transactions to keep using the 25% coupon, but she kept having to overide the 15% first time coupon to get it to work. Didnt want to be a super pain.1 point

I totally agree with taking apart and ziplock bag approach. Often times I actually grab the instructions when taking apart and go in reverse order and number the bags as I go so when I want to build them again it is almost like building for the first time.1 point
-
Disassemble them and bag the pieces in a zip lock, then box. They will stay much cleaner and you can always build them again if you want to change up your displays.1 point

Perfect, except that after #5, you're supposed to loop back to #2 a few times before moving on to #6. It's sort of like Chutes & Ladders.1 point

Nope :-) Local wholesale retail store - those were not even marked as reduced or on sale. I just passed the aisle and did a double take when I noted a 1,25 Euro price tag on a lego shelf... checked the other and saw theses reduced prices - ohh and there was another 20 % off all toys deducted from the total bill which I only realised once I checked the receipt tonight.1 point

None of this makes sense to me. Seems strange that they may have underproduced these things and been so wrong on the demand. Then again see Persia, Prince of, and other examples. I don't buy the explanation that it's about clearing the decks for Star Wars - they've only announced like 8 new sets coming right? Shouldn't influence current lines THAT much?1 point
-
Yeah, to avoid mass panic they already added the famous sentence underneath. " we are currently making more, so please come back later for availability ".1 point
