  1. I'm going to say this, directed at all of you that are hoarding this sets, expecting this to be completely sold out, and never coming back. If these come back, you better damn well not return these piles and piles of sets. You think retailers are cracking down on us resellers now? PIles and piles of returns will just make it even harder on the rest of us. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. You take your lumps. It's all part of the risk of this game. If you get stuck with lots of stock because it has come back, oh well. I'm not going to cry for you. That's the risk you too. Great reward comes with great risk. Your reward, if this never comes back, is some really good bank. But if it comes back...well, that's the risk you took.

  4. These are not as hard to come by as some are making it out to be. If you want for long term then go for it but for people expecting to make on all right now it is not happening at retail. RE is the only one selling at a small profit on both Amazon and ebay. Trex is at 99 at amazon and right at retail on ebay. Same with indominus being high on amazon and retail on ebay. Have found 25+ trex with very little effort. (Of which i bought 0) , 12 more RE of which i did buy. Raptor rampage only found 6 and indominous about 4 at tru. RE is definitely the hottest seller with some profit. Sold over 30 in 3 days and about 50 total the last 2 weeks But again only 5-10 profit per. As hot as RE and JW have been they dont even come close to what hulkbuster did in its prime.

  6. That mindset has been alive and well around here for at least as long as I've been a member, things will really get crazy when Ed sells a set.

  7. I fully believe what you are being told is what you are being told. Here is what I find interesting. My memory may be faulty but ... Red Five was on backorder for several months. You could backorder it and let it sit. I forget how long my backorders sat and I know some on here were on backorder longer than me. Sure place backorder orders all the time for a few months that is great. Along comes the DS, it runs out. It runs out everywhere. Even if resellers bought up all remaining stock everywhere which I do not believe the secondary market increased it from 400 to 600 in less than a week. I think there is end user sales in that at a minimum. So anyways it goes from available to call to check to sold out in less than a week. But hey we have a large shipment due in the end of July. Lets go ahead and mark it sold out and not take backorders even though a EEE of them is on the way and will be here at any time. Also there will be plenty for the Christmas season. So many we cannot see straight. But lets let it stay sold out for now. I do imagine some sort of refill is coming and it could be full strength but I tend to think something else is going on...

  14. sort of meh start to this stock but I'm a believer so I snagged 200 shares at $40.02. usually i avoid IPOs because of the hype. I think in this case, the hype is being offset by EBAY stock holders offloading their free share so maybe we have oversupply. either way its below their IPO price target. This seems like a good chance paypal will be bought by VISA or MASTERCARD. something else to talk about besides RAPTOR ESCAPE.

  18. This is how you know when we're into full chaos: Leading up to it people will be buying their "tools" so that they can become part of the "Awakened Force". For those sitting outside Chinese theater for 2 weeks you could sell a few DS and Bwings to keep them occupied. I remember the lines for LOTR as well as the SW prequels. I can't think of many activities better suited to keeping you entertained while camping in line for 2 weeks than building a UCS set or MOCing Yoda

  19. This movie has Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon in it...Nuff said....LOL. I guarantee you that this film will top JW. I have done a lot of research on the movie and people who have worked on it and have seen the rough edits say it's fantastic...a true homage to the Original Trilogy. It's already starting isn't it?

  21. Maybe TLG actively monitors BP and figured out it could save storage cost by having us store/hoard the sets for them. Then they'll "leak" via a Target/Walmart/Etc manager memo that a flood of JW sets are coming, which will then prompt a wave of returns and stores will then be properly stocked for the holiday rush.

  22. Keep in mind that almost anyone that is under the age of 15 has never really seen a Star Wars movie on the bigscreen (they'd have been 4 when E3 came out). Since then, Star Wars has popular TV shows, tons of clothes (how many Star Wars T-shirts did you see 15 years ago? Probably none -- today you honestly can't go out in public and NOT see one), tons of new toy lines, them park attractions, etc. Star Wars is exponentially more popular today than it was when the Pre-quels were released. Kids weren't as amped to see Star Wars back in 2000...well at least not like today. I imagine every ticket will be sold on opening weekend...so that's what the movie will gross.

  23. Wouldn't your company flag this behavior should this happen with greater frequency and bigger amount of inventory ? Once it is flagged, wouldn't your clients (Walmart, Target, etc) act upon an uptick on this behavior ? Policy abuses lead to more restrictions (cf Target)

  24. I don't think too many people are planning on stocking up heavily on E7 TFA sets for Christmas flipping. Certainly I will be keeping my eye on them in case there are seasonal shortages on specific sets that could lead to flipping opportunities. There are short windows for that every year. What I'm hoping for is increased demand for some already retired Star Wars sets that I can capitalize on in November and December. Specifically I'm looking at my stock of Jabba's Palace, Rancor Pit, Desert Skiff, Sail Barge, Y-wing, A-wing, Microfighters wave 1, Republic Gunship, Jedi Cruiser, Umbaran MHC, Alliance Tank, Spider Droid, Duel on Geonosis, AT-TE, Red 5 (hopefully), and some others. I don't expect them all to take off and the prequel sets may not get much of a bump from the movie, but I hope to have all of these queued up and ready to go by October. On topic though, I have some Raptor Escapes and I'm picking up a couple of Indominus Rex and T-Rex this week just in case they're out of stock for a while. I wouldn't bet on any of them heading to retirement this year, but I better cover my bases just in case.

  27. I gauge The LEGO Groups's interest and commitment to any theme by the amount and the quality of the sets produced for it. Six middle of the road sets and a few poly bags that were basically knockoffs of the Dino theme are hardly convincing to me as a theme that LEGO made a huge investment in. These sets might also be more costly to make because of the Dinosaur maxifigures, so one has to wonder if this shortage is from popularity or from lack of adequate stock because of production issues or a combination of both. Although JW took the movie world by storm, as LEGO sets, they are obviously a minor theme and will be extinct sooner than many other themes.

  28. They do, but people who abuse return policies are the ones who make it harder for people with legitimate reasons for a return. Return policies are not in place so people can hedge their bets on a quick flip. You've been around long enough, you're aware of the arguments so stir the pot if you'd like. Muck is muck no matter what. Cheers!

  30. I have no idea what your buy in was on PC or PS, but I'm assuming it was around retail since discounts on those sets are hard to come by. If that's the case, then why would you sell at a loss on sets you have probably only held for less than a year to speculate on a $40 walmart exclusive? PC and PS are going to do well. You just have to be patient. The raptor escape will need to skyrocket in value, which is no guarantee, in order to meet your expectations as well as cover the loss you will take by selling PC and PS right now. Buy some raptors, sure, but don't sell the modulars to do it.

  33. I guess that means I am Lucas. Trying to get in, but probably won't. When I do finally get in the game, I'll drop the game winning pass from Charlie Sheen. Translation: I will try unsuccessfully to buy some, then, when I finally do I'll pay full RRP. Two weeks later they will show up for 50% off.

  37. I asked the seller, "You say the set is 99% - 100% complete. There are 3803 pcs, so you are saying there will be less than 39 pieces missing (1%) if any. Correct? Do you guarantee that? " He wrote a several paragraph reply saying he was "highly confident " but couldn't make guarantees. Seems very suspicious. Seven photos of boxes and five photos of parts, showing a half-complete DS... where are all the parts that were taken off the half built one there on the table? How come they aren't in bags sitting next to it? This guy is not to be trusted.

  40. This business starts to look more and more like the real stock market. When there are rumours or signs of a take-over or merge of companies prices spike! If this all turns out to be false alarm this person who sold for $600 is a real lego broker. Respect!

  41. Does anybody think that Lego paid 5 million dollars or more for the JW License and retire the sets in a few months, even the Lone Ranger sets were out for about 8 months. and that 5 million is most likely on the light side, for these sets not being around for Christmas will be a shock to me and many others. 42. I have missed you people. Been freakishly busy, which is great, but I need dawdling time, darn it! Update on us for my friends here - we're done with books! Yay! The last of the donations are out the door and the inventory space is all LEGO and room for expanding LEGO. We're pretty much a non-presence on eBay these days, which is a total sea-change for us. We'll continue to use the eBay account for some clearance with our 20 free/month, but to be out of that Cassini search nightmare and the twice-yearly hoop-jumping sellers changes is an amazing weight off. Two years ago (yes, it's only been that long!) when I wandered onto this site to say, "Hey, guyz, wut's going on in this thread?" I knew nothing about selling LEGO. Today, it's our family's entire income. So much growth yet to do, but it's all exciting, and every time I get a little frustrated with this problem at BrickLink or that problem at Brick Owl, I have to stop and laugh at myself. It could be WAY worse, like... on eBay! I did have a surreal eBay-like experience on Brick Owl the other day, customer contacted me and asked if he placed $100 or more in his order could he have 50% off and free shipping. I don't know why he didn't ask for one of my daughters, too, must have been an oversight. Anyways, popped into this thread since the topic is nearest and dearest to me these days to catch up, hope to be around a little more often! We did go through a few iterations until we settled on our current one. This photo is from right after we upgraded to "real" inventory boxes (rather than recycled, added our pulling carts, etc. Works like clockwork, four of us can work together in the space now filing parts, pulling parts, counting and packing parts. We still do our shipping and parting out at home, someday we'll buy a house that can incorporate the entire business (first choice) or lease a little commercial/light industrial space (second choice) but this does well for us at our current income/size.

  43. I agree with you. Going to use your post to launch into a rant, dcdfan (this isn't directed at you). I'm getting a little tired of the "it's sold out, it's over!" on sets that are 3 months old. Seems like I'm seeing it everywhere on the site. Sets are sold out, they're going to be gone - even though they're at their initial launch. People are already talking about some of the Star Wars sets (like the Snowspeeder), on their way out, because it's sold out, or a retailer has it on sale/clearance, the new Star Wars movie is coming, etc. Let's be honest for a minute - how much time do you think Lego puts into set development? They plan *way* into the future. The designer of the new Batmobile for the Batman v Superman movie set was talking about this at Comic Con. He'd had started development at least 6 months ago. And this is a set that won't be out until January. So, there's a good year involved in the cycle from development to hitting the shelves. Lego is not going to stop a product on the shelf 2-3 months after it shows up. For everyone that thinks that's what is happening here - can you proof it? Can you show me where that's happened in the past? There's only TWO sets I can think of in the last couple of years that were available for a very short time - Arctic Supply Plane and Zombies. We've all figured there is a production issue with the ASP. I'm going to guess that some part failed, on large scale production, to meet quality standards. Zombies - there's one piece that's especially rare in that set - the bride's hair. That hair style is available in other sets; but that hair color is not. I'm going to guess that it left us early, again, for production / quality control issues. Other than that, we just don't see sets or entire product lines only last 3-6 months. It just doesn't seem to happen. So much speculation, but it never seems to pan out. Lego is not going to pull all of the recently released Star Wars sets to have room for the TFA sets. They're complimentary to one another. Why only have TFA sets on the shelf when you can also have Snowspeeders and other sets? I walk in for a new X-Wing, and I'll walk out with that plus a few other sets. I'm not sure if all this talk about sets retiring 3 months after they hit the shelves is to scare new investors, because people are scared themselves, or a smokescreen. I'm all about speculating, but let's be realistic with our speculation, and give some good examples, and not just widely assume that everything is already on the EOL list the moment it hits the street.
