  1. Licking my name. Nothing happening. Starting to feel weird.

  2. I don't think Lego is executing any Machiavellian plans to manipulate resellers / investors. They are too busy engaged in their business, trying to increase the desirability of their product for more and more consumers around the world. That's what makes a global company more profit... when you can get everyone to need your product they way they need, say, water... that's the way you make more profit. Playing some short term game to milk resellers for an extra million or two is short-sighted, and I think they're smart enough to know that. In fact, I might propose that having the DS retire this summer (either now, or after one more batch hits the market and sells out quickly), might make them a LOT more money than the plan you suggest. As the new movie hype ramps up prior to Christmas, moms and dads might notice the recent disappearance of 10188, see the $500 - $600 price tag on Amazon and ebay... used prices at $300 or $400... and say, "Wow. Look at all the crap toys I bought my kid last year that are worthless now. Even used Legos are worth good money... I'm buying more Lego for Christmas this year. In fact... maybe I'll get 2 each of the new Star Wars sets and save one in the attic." If Lego could get a new "10179 story" out of the DS, many more resellers would be created, many more moms and dads would feel better about buying Lego... it would be a great thing for TLG.

  3. My "job" is a bit different from most on here, I deal with all the issue of a service related industry, this week has been particularly rough in that regard, but then I do get to see things like this on a regular basis. So, I guess it all evens out...

  4. I agree with you. Going to use your post to launch into a rant, dcdfan (this isn't directed at you). I'm getting a little tired of the "it's sold out, it's over!" on sets that are 3 months old. Seems like I'm seeing it everywhere on the site. Sets are sold out, they're going to be gone - even though they're at their initial launch. People are already talking about some of the Star Wars sets (like the Snowspeeder), on their way out, because it's sold out, or a retailer has it on sale/clearance, the new Star Wars movie is coming, etc. Let's be honest for a minute - how much time do you think Lego puts into set development? They plan *way* into the future. The designer of the new Batmobile for the Batman v Superman movie set was talking about this at Comic Con. He'd had started development at least 6 months ago. And this is a set that won't be out until January. So, there's a good year involved in the cycle from development to hitting the shelves. Lego is not going to stop a product on the shelf 2-3 months after it shows up. For everyone that thinks that's what is happening here - can you proof it? Can you show me where that's happened in the past? There's only TWO sets I can think of in the last couple of years that were available for a very short time - Arctic Supply Plane and Zombies. We've all figured there is a production issue with the ASP. I'm going to guess that some part failed, on large scale production, to meet quality standards. Zombies - there's one piece that's especially rare in that set - the bride's hair. That hair style is available in other sets; but that hair color is not. I'm going to guess that it left us early, again, for production / quality control issues. Other than that, we just don't see sets or entire product lines only last 3-6 months. It just doesn't seem to happen. So much speculation, but it never seems to pan out. Lego is not going to pull all of the recently released Star Wars sets to have room for the TFA sets. They're complimentary to one another. Why only have TFA sets on the shelf when you can also have Snowspeeders and other sets? I walk in for a new X-Wing, and I'll walk out with that plus a few other sets. I'm not sure if all this talk about sets retiring 3 months after they hit the shelves is to scare new investors, because people are scared themselves, or a smokescreen. I'm all about speculating, but let's be realistic with our speculation, and give some good examples, and not just widely assume that everything is already on the EOL list the moment it hits the street.

  5. I wasn't planning on buying anything today, but had to kill a few minutes so I just wandered into an area TRU to see if anything new and exciting was on the shelves - Imagine my delight and surprise when I stumbled on an Arctic Supply Plane sitting on an endcap!

  8. OK... one more story. Same Walmart as that last one... so I go there today to find one last 75919 Indominus Rex for $99. I look it over... it's got a little pinching from the security spider but otherwise in great shape. I'm in a hurry, but luckily I find no one in line at the 20 items or less lane. I hand over my item. She scans it, and I get out my money. She starts working the security spider. Obviously she doesn't have much skill at it... she's struggling with it... she's straining. I see the wires pulled extra tight, digging deeper and deeper into the box edges... but I control myself. Now... instead of laying it down and working on a nice flat surface right in front of her (the conveyor), she decides to pick it up and jam it half-diagonal cockeyed between the conveyor, her knee, and the bagging carousel. She continues to work at it... twist it... tug it... veins are starting to become prominent on her forehead (and mine)... then I stop her, "WAIT a minute!" I lift the box out of her hands and show her... when she jammed it down on the bagging carousel, she actually had skewered the box onto one of those metal prongs that the bags hang from. There's a hole right in the middle of the back of the box the size of a quarter. "Oh... sorry... do you want to exchange that for another?"... "That's the only one you have," I tell her... and just walk away.

  9. I am very honored to say the least... Carrying over from the Jurassic World 2015 forum...If this Walmart exclusive (in America) is truly done, it should prove to be a very highly sought after piece as The Zombies is...

  10. People here have a bad habit of analyzing everything from their own perspective and experience, and, as a result, come up with all sorts of scenarios of what is going to happen that are completely divorced from the reality of corporate decision making, production schedules, and distribution networks that you're dealing with when you're a company as large as TLG.

  11. Today was a great day! Found a Sea Cow at Target for $175 new, few Bike Shops for 50% off and last years Ninja Turtle submarines for 50% off at WM. another great find was 50% off Big Bens, which was a no brainier...

  14. Its wiped out clean at most stores for a reason . I cannot keep these things in-stock either. The green back with our exchange rate has been a strong force to make me move these products. I am still waiting for 30x I.Rex, 30 T.Rex to arrive. I have 35 Raptors Rampage in my car. 20 I.Rex in storage.

  15. My 2 cents. (IMHO) It is done. A large company, or small company would continue to stock pile orders on this set if this was going to go into another production run. Every day it sits is another Day Lego is not doing back orders on it. In effect, they could have just flipped it over to "Temporarily out of stock" collected 500 orders a day on it and then execute a production run to fill those orders with guaranteed sales and profit. They choose not to do these. They have made a decision to use the production capacity for other, more profitable activity. Production Capacity is limited and their future plans call for this capacity to be used on other production runs. They are not looking a week or two down the road. They are planning capacity runs for 12 to 18 months down the road. Look at the Simpson house. It wasn't retired. There will be another run on the Simpson house. The production plan calls for it. It is just a question of when. Other sets will have a future run as well (R5, Pet Shop). They treat them differently when they plan future activity but they just are not sure when. Also, they know there will be runs because they have agreements with retailers they have to live up to. Delivery must be made by x date on 10,000 units, 15,000 units etc. The agreements between Lego and Target, Walmart, TRU are massive contracts with multiple delivery's, penalties for performance, etc. I know we look at this at a micro level when it is our cash in the game but my inventory is a drop compared to other collectors, investors and retailers. If this was not done it would not be tagged as sold out. (IMHO)

  20. to be fair, this site is all about speculation so lets speculate. all conspiracy theories and rebuttals welcome. its fun to see people getting way too serious and stock of major retailers wiped out in minutes on a slightest whiff of BS.

  22. The real estate market circa 2006 is not an apt comparison to the Lego resale market. The real estate market crashed largely because the price increases were fueled by cheap debt which was fueled by demand for mortgages which was fueled by investor demand for "safe" securities with high yields. Once the front side of the market (i.e., the mortgage payments) were unable to sustain the back end of the market (i.e., the securitized debt obligations), the whole thing crashed. Obviously there were many other factors that came into play, but that crash was driven by factors that simply aren't at play in the Lego market. For most Lego sets, the secondary market price appreciation is driven purely by supply and demand. As the supply shrinks, consumer demand drives the prices up. Eventually, the demand slackens and prices plateau or fall slightly, but the prices are fundamentally driven by consumer demand and until that disappears, the market will continue to roll. This is not to say that margins will stay as high as they have been historically...we've already seen margins tighten significantly and that is a trend that will continue as more people become involved in reselling, but the only way that a recorrection would happen is if consumer demand for Lego dried up over night and I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate that is any type of threat at the moment. Maybe if TLG decides to come out with a line of Nazi or confederate flag sets, that could happen, but, otherwise, it's hard to see the consumer market turning violently against Lego.

  24. Well, hold out some hope! I got mine from Amazon today. Seal code 20R5. But the shipping was great - came in a box perfectly sized for a modular sized set, 24x20x16 I think? The DS was still in the Lego shipping container inside, but they could have still put another modular on top. So hope you get that person who packed my box. :-)

  25. Amazon would combine DS with fine, hand-painted china from the Ming dynasty. That's just how they roll. On the other hand, Wal-Mart, if they sold such things, would just slap a shipping label on the china and drop it in the mail.

  26. Looks great, should prove very popular. I`m digging the headless horseman figure in particular, jack-o-lantern head ftw. The Mystery Mansion is easily the best of the bunch (fantastic colour scheme!), but overall they`ve really captured the look of the show. Mystery Machine is pretty solid as well. No, just no...

  38. looks like Grevious' Wheel Bike (75040) has gone call to check at LEGO Shop at Home. Now its a small set so that does not mean it will definitely go to sold out, but it is on sale just about everywhere at the moment so couldnt hurt to keep an eye on it, and grab some if you have a quota you want to hit.

  39. It doesn't sound like you have the guts to really make money doing this or the perspective to analyze the market properly. Laugh your ass off all you want at all the foolish resellers...I'll just keep laughing all the way to the bank.

  40. One thing in LEGO is a true collector or hobbyist will always want something retired that they can't get anymore. That is why some of these sets keep going up so high. I recently built EEE. What did i do the day after I completed it? I looked up all the older maersk ships to see if there were any others i wanted. So when that new DS comes out and someone builds that they will look at previous models and 10188 will be what most will want. I'm not a big DS fan and have made that clear before. Been getting them in for years on my loads and always sold them. Just not one i wanted to build up. However if there is opportunity to make money on something I will gladly buy.

  41. Imperial Flagship. Huge ship, great build techniques. I thought this was going to be the center piece of the armada, but much to my surprise next to the QAR and BP it shrinks quite a bit and QAR steals the show.

  47. I paired these two sets together because in order to have all four raptors you'll need both of them. The combination of both sets is a great deal. Cool mini figures and hours of playability. I hope you enjoy watching the video as much as I did filming and editing it.
