  1. Count me in this group mostly. I sometimes buy an extra of a set when I can afford it, but primarily I use BP to guide my collecting decisions - which sets to buy, in what order, at what price. For that purpose, I think this site is simply amazing, and I really appreciate all the input from the more seasoned collectors and investors. If you're interested in my viewpoint as a collector, and a guy who buys multiple retired sets a month, I've thrown some rambling thoughts below. In terms of the Ewok Village set specifically, this is a must have set for me, and probably my next exclusive purchase. For what it's worth, this set is the number one set my wife consistently asks me why haven't I bought one yet? Also, I have kids aged 6-19 who love this set as well. It looks really great in person at the LEGO store every time we see it. My youngest two haven't even seen the OT movies and still think this set is cool. One thing I think this set has going for it right now is uniqueness. The entire LEGO Star Wars landscape is littered with vehicle sets - in many instances several rehashes of the same one. Like the Death Star, the display factor of the EV has something different going for it vs. an ISD/SSD/MF. Is it too childish for AFOLs? Perhaps, but I'm still going to set it up in my office someday. I'm 39 years old, married, and work as an Army Officer - I'm cool with having some Ewoks hanging with me at work. But then again, I think Metalbeard's Sea Cow is awesome. I guess my point is that there is a market for this set, and I think it's going to do better than expected after EOL. Is it better to put your money in 3-4 cheaper sets bought on sale? I don't know. I'll leave that up to those who are more experienced and savvy at the investment side of things.

  2. There's some serious overreaction going on in here. Last year they fired up the presses for another batch of GEs in September so I don't know why people are soiling themselves over PS not vanishing in July.

  3. Pet Shop's 'on schedule' retirement would be at the end of this year, not the beginning of July. It's a bit early for all the 'It'll never retire!' talk. Just sayin'.

  9. Both my 6 and 8 year olds have already sold some of their used LEGO sets on EBay and reinvested the proceeds into new sets they wanted. This was entirely their idea, and I let them establish their minimum asking price for each set. I also loosely introduced them to the idea of pay pal/eBay/ shipping fees and showed them what ended up with in their pocket after the sale. They even took the photos for the eBay listings. I'm like you in that I have sets set aside for future use. Even at their age, my youngest understand that some sets are very valuable and we're saving them for something special. I do have a whole shelf of clearance/ninjago/creator/ used sets/etc that the boys know they're free to select sets from to build as they like.

  10. Finished building my $16 Town Hall from last year. Was an Amazon return and had been built before. Took a some time building but came out good. The top right is missing a piece as I just dropped it. Fell on a shelf and couldn't find it. Deal with it later.

  12. legos - isn't that the most populous city in Nigeria ? if i open these how am i going to pay my 6yo's sophomore year in college tuition? actually this what I was planning on making when i open up and sort out all those Pet Shops (which by the way have the highest partout value of any recent modular)...

  14. The best thing about the set is it comes with all Ninjas. You can sell them to shave $50-$60 off the purchase price (assuming you just want to keep the temple).

  16. I have always hoped that the Echo Base was a placeholder as it didn't make sense. I really don't want to see a UCS from Ep.7 yet, unless it's a MF in the same ilk as 10179. Just give me my Cloud City and we can all go home happy.

  17. PS is currently "Temp. OOS" with no option to Add to Cart... so no backorders to fill... hope PS will be gone for good after being "Available" for 1.5 weeks Now the question is, will PC go at the same time as PS. PC is now pretty much only available at LEGO Shop at Home. PC is doing the dance and limit has been drop to 2, which is showing the signs of retirement. If Lego is depleting supplies for PS and PC, then it should be all dry up by fall of 2015. Then introduce a new set in Jan that should still leave 3 modulars on the shelve for 2016.

  21. I allow my only child, who is five, to build and play with most sets. Star Wars UCS sets are put on a shelving unit and he understands they are for when he's much older and so he doesn't mess with them, although many of those sets are higher up and out of his reach. And he's usually pretty good and gentle with those when I do let him play with them. But, I have let him build and play with most of the regular SW, and LOTR sets, which I don't want to see destroyed, and he does a fairly good job of not acting like many of his friends, and even some of his cousins in regards to his toys. We've only lost a few flick missiles and light sabers. I started him at age 2 on lego's and he's gotten to the point, where he can build most sets by himself, including sets that say 12 and up. I'm happy about his progress and feel that sometimes you may have to break some eggs, if you want to make an omelette. Let em' build….and let' em play... most of this stuff is meant for kids, and they might eventually be building and engineering the future...

  22. sold my last 7965 MF on ebay for $249.99 free shipping. luckily its only going 2 states away. 2 more Series 2 simpsons minifigure sealed complete sets on amazon for $95.45 - nice because they weigh less than 13 oz so i can ship first class mail. paid $48 per set by the case from amazon.fr deal. oui oui.

  23. In my opinion, sorting by theme isn't very helpful when you're searching for a specific brick/element. Sorting by color is better than that I guess. Personally, I'm sorting my bricks by type of brick/element as I find it easier to pick a red 1x1x1 brick from a collection of different-colored 1x1x1 bricks than from an assortment of all-red bricks/elements in various sizes.

  25. Time for a 2015 Comic Con thread. Suppose I should have posted this earlier as a place for news, both Lego and non-Lego. There's been ton of news, so I'll try to get things consolidated here. Please feel free to post things that i miss. There's the SW Lego reveals coming on Saturday. Until then, this the first big piece of news: LEGO Scooby-Doo and LEGO Idea The Big Bang Theory (21302) available at SDCC 2015 I will be there Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. I will take some photos. I'm sure there will be plenty online as well. But I'll let you know what I see, and what I might be able to pick up.

  33. When the teaser trailer for TFA came out and we saw a desert planet, everyone assumed Tattooine; now we know it is actually Jakku. The base may be 'Echo base', but it doesn't mean it has to be Hoth. Regardless, I will end up buying it. Pulling back to the UCS wish list, what about a lightsaber? Seriously, just make a detailed, foot-long saber handle with styling specific to an important character. Universal Studios theme park sells the custom wands of all the Harry Potter characters - why can't I buy different saber handles for Darth Vader, Count Dooku, and Luke? Allow for 'blade' mounting of transparent, tinted bricks with lighting elements inside, and design the handle to allow for a battery power box. How many of the new red saber with the two crossguard mini-blades would they sell with the opening of this movie?

  34. No worries. I don't think this is a straight forward answer as it will vary from person to person, whether they build and display, build MOCs etc etc, but I'll chime in on what I do. In our collection of lego we have sets that are mixed in with lego that were purchased in bulk lots. When we get new larger sets I like to package up older larger sets and take them out of "rotation". This helps keep the amount of legos out at one time manageable. It can become an overwhelming mess very quickly if we don't do this.

  35. Oh, no I wouldn't put sets that I want to have as sets into the sorting bin. That just leads to a lot of extra time spent first sorting the set and then finding the pieces later when I want to do whatever it is I intended to do with it. Building or selling the set later, I would just bundle all of those pieces together in a single place.

  36. to be honest if you wait until around Jan-March next year to sell them, you will probably be able to sell them for around original retail of £40.00, make around £10 each profit, and like you said it's always worth accumulating loads of Tesco points, when double points hits they can often have some good deals on Lego.

  37. Craigslist deal: 6211 - Imperial Star Destroyer; 100% complete, all minifigs, both manuals in good condition 7662 - Trade Federation MTT; 100% complete, all minifigs and manuals in good condition, in original box (which is also in good condition) Guy selling it felt bad he didn't have the box for the ISD, so included: 7654 - Droid Battle Pack 7655 - Clone Trooper Battle Pack (both sets in ziplocs with original manuals, 100% complete with all minifigures) 2 loose assassin droids with weapons. I kinda felt bad only handing him his asking price of $110. Kinda.

  38. When I first got out of my dark ages, (around October 2013,) I had noticed it and didn't think a whole lot about it. I spent the next year and a half just buying up everything else that I wanted and was behind on. I always went back to looking at it at the store, and kept thinking to myself, I really should pick this up, but it's really low on my priority list. Eventually, when I literally ran out of big sets to buy that Lego was currently offering, it was time to buy into it. It's surprisingly a really awesome display set. I'm not exactly the biggest fan of playsets, (and since I was a kid, I was more into the ships and very neutral on ewoks. Neither hated them, nor loved them,) but they did such a good job capturing that scene that anyone who knows anything about star wars, would recognize it. Like others have said, it's worth it even at retail IMO. I wouldn't miss the boat on this.

  44. So I’ve been doing a little analysis on Marvel /DC, just for fun. Results if anyone is interested, observations are my opinion, does not constitute financial advice and do your own research etc… All of the data is from brickset and is UK based RRP, so YMMV on retirement dates. Prices/ Price Points are all GBP. So: Lower price points (PP) sets are firmly established, small gifts, the £19.99 sets always abundant. The mid PP sets interest me the most, as it’s clear something in the marketing strategy changed 2013/2014 moving away from the £34.99/£39.99 sets, splitting them into more around the £44.99/£49.99 PP, with a more options in the £24.99/£29.99 area, probably the intent to stretch the £19.99 up a little. Given the dominance of the £19.99 the £24.99/£29.99 PP looks a little light, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some expansion in this category from below.. £44.99/£49.99 is firmly in the Birthday / Christmas gift territory, so it’s no surprise there is an abundance here. However, it looks somewhat overweight to me, with the total number of sets currently available at that price point, with 76013 being the most likely candidate for removal. Particularly if we see more DC sets at the £44.99 PP. The £69.99 PP also looks interesting, as it appears to show a similar split to the £39.99 PP, but earlier in the cycle. I.e. With the emergence of a new £59.99 and £89.99 PP. Short run on 76021 and the creation of these new PPs may signal a short life for 76032, particularly given the movie tie-in. Higher end sets are probably too low volume to form any real conclusion. .
