Sold my first SSD for $845 USD after fees and shipping. A little earlier than I originally planned but it helped fund some Pet Shops and Tower Bridges.4 points

Currently working on transforming this into a JP1 vehicle because as it stands; i'm not a fan of the JW version which doesn't even appear in the film. Got all the parts ordered, but it will mostly be a trial and error system. Hard to get the red stripes in the right spot. Will certainly post pictures in a month or so when all the parts arrive and I've tinkered with it.4 points

I ordered some Constitution Trains at Wal-Mart for pick-up and they canceled my order. I go to this store a few weeks later and see some Constitution Trains on the shelf, I pick one up and there is a Site To Store sticker on it with my name on it. I pick up another and it has the same sticker. They canceled my order and just stuck them back on the shelf with my pick-up sticker attached to the box. I did ask them to remove the sticker before placing them back on the floor.4 points

The Zombies...I remember seeing them on the shelf at Target but never bought one because it never went on sale. Next thing you know it's completely gone from the retail market. Now it's too overpriced for what you get with it IMO.4 points

If you don't have a hair dryer with you in the store :-) you can always, with some pressure rub your fingers quickly back & fourth across the sticker - the friction will produce enough warmth to soften the glue somewhat - it looks counter intuitive, like you're actually pressing the sticker more firmly in place but it does work in a pinch. or 'course if you have a Samsung dumbphone just rest it on the box for a few minutes & the heat from the battery should work sufficiently if it doesn't burst into flames first.3 points

I've been spending a loooooot of time lately sorting by element into baggies. I am then going to take those baggies and put them into bins like 1x? flat, 1x? brick, 2x? flat, 2x? brick, other flats and bricks, other elements and minifigures, parts, and accessories. I have gone too far to stop now, but I am sick of digging through random stuff looking for a specific piece. Even by color is too tedious and I tend to miss what I am looking for.2 points

So, it sounds like on saturday we will finally get to see some of the upcoming sets at SDCC. Do you think they'll usher in the entire wave ? Or just show a few? Finally, something good to look forward to this week. Hopefully they show boxart, minifigures, and sets in full. The sets get released in two months, so it's about that time. It's listed on this page, if you look at the product reveals section: https://www.flickr.com/photos/tormentalous/194689509122 points

Got a fair deal on a 41007 Friends Pet Salon found at Walmart today... open box. Have to thank my good friend pstebbing for the 'assist'. I texted "Hey man! How many bags in a 41007?" I knew it would take me forever to find the answer on my phone... but he came through with the quick reply, and I bought it it! Thanks again!1 point

I wonder if all the hate for Ewoks is based on age. I'm 34 and love this set and those Return of the Jedi scenes. That puts me at a very young age when ROTJ came out (3-4. So naturally a furry little Ewok would be fun and entertaining, especially when they manage to beat up all those storm troopers using handmade weapons. If, on the other hand, I was an adult, teenager, or even pre-teen when ROTJ came out, I'd probably think they were too childish for space warfare. The key to investing isn't what I believe...its what the market believes in. I think a lot of AFOLs in there 30s would love to have this set to build with their children or display proudly. I'd pay $400-500 easy to have a sealed one in my collection if it were already retired.1 point

That lasted longer than normal... It was available for like 1.5 weeks. I give it 24 hours and see if the site changes status after their nightly update. Hopefully it will go this time without any back orders to fill as add to cart option is no longer available... at least for now1 point
-
Even at $250 a good investor would still be buying these, as this set will do very well when retired and there will never be a set like this again.1 point

I remember looking in the Lego section of FAO Schwarz in 2002 at Yoda (7194) and the Statue of Liberty (3450) and thinking how cool they were, how far Lego had progressed, and how I would never be able to afford them. Those would be two on my list I will probably not be able to get, but I will never say never. I also remember being at a Lego store in 2007 and awestruck by GG, CC, and GC, all three in one place. I could not find a way to afford them then, and amazingly, I doubt I will be able to find a way to afford them now. Although I did find a way to trade for an open box, sealed bags GC last year. But a sealed one is probably just a dream.1 point

I would like to own / build Cafe Corner. However, I would then want Market Street and Green Grocer. Finally, I'm insane enough to want every other modular. I just don't have the display space. Thus sadly I will not ever buy Cafe Corner because of my self-control issues. Now if I lucked into one for 1/2 of market price, i would just sell it. The temptation of building it would lead be down a dark path.1 point

The Lego heads don't sort well at all. Type and then size is how we do our small piece bulk. Bigger pieces are sorted by type and color. Specific things like axles are always grouped by color since the color is meaningful. We also don't mix printed pieces with regular pieces normally.1 point
-
I agree with this. While sorting bulk, I do the same - group similar brick types together. I suppose the approach you outline works best if you're looking for further inspiration for MOCs. Otherwise, if you've got the idea(s), I would sort by type.1 point
-
I think it's a decent middle ground for storage space vs organizing, but inevitably when you're building your MOC(s) there's always going to be that one piece that's in the other bucket. Always. Which is why I think those with tons of space and patience to sort have a little bin for every type of brick. Which is hundreds of bins. And lots of space. I find the human mind doesn't have much trouble zoning in to a specific colour when you're 'brick picking', what I find annoying is those little pieces that slip to the bottom of the box. Due to lack of space, I've sorted my bulk into about 10 tubs sorted roughly by brick size (tiles 1x1 to bricks 1x1, plates 1x2 to 1x6, plates 2x2 to 2x10, big plates 2x12 and larger 4x 6x etc, bricks 1x2 to 1x6) etc etc. All colours mixed together. If i know the brick I'm looking for, I at least know it's going to be in a specific bucket somewhere, rather than your new system where it's uncertain whether that one small piece will be in your Old West vs Adventurers tub.1 point

1) I have built one 2) I am a Star Wars Nut I absolutely love the set. I have acquired a bunch for long term hold. Of course I like Jar Jar too.1 point

Having been lucky to either currently or formerly own many of the "big" sets, one that I've never had and probably won't would be Statue of Liberty. Another I would say would be 10030 UCS Imperial Star Destroyer but I may pony up for that at some point unless they come out with a re-issue which I wouldn't completely rule out as it's virtually as iconic as the X-Wing and MF. Not quite to that level, but I'd say it's just behind them.1 point

How do you know the difference between the innocent / ignorant and those who are actually likely to cause you problems based on just an offer? I mean jeez, people block people for things that could be simple typos (seemingly not in this case). My point is, being overly judgmental seems to be a common problem these days, and not a small one, imho. Maybe it has something to do with our increasingly tech'd-out, instant-gratification-based society that fails to encourage ACTUAL HUMAN INTERACTION on many significant levels. But I digress... I promote patience and professionalism. It has ALWAYS worked well for me - just takes a bit more effort.1 point
-
Absolutely. When I see people and their insta-block mentality, I just think "that's someone I don't want to do business with". You are driving away customers. How would you feel if Walmart flat-out banned you for asking about a bulk clearance discount, or a sketchy price match? Better yet, how about if your Lego B&M store kicks you out for asking for a break on a damaged box? Just about everyone is looking for a deal, and the definition of such need not be the same for both buyer and seller. Have a little tolerance. You nearly have a point, but don't make the mistake of assuming this person is calculating your profit margin in their head when they ask. That's not their problem. Maybe they just have a budget and a need and are hoping for the best. I had an older rare sealed star wars set listed last year and got a generic message asking if I would take barely over half the BIN price. Sure, I rolled my eyes, but then I made a short professional reply declining the offer. The story got interesting (and suspicious to me) when I was basically begged to reconsider by a 12 year old kid looking to spend all his birthday money on the one set he wanted most. Taking the story at face value, I replied again in a much more friendly manner, apologizing that I couldn't accept his offer, and suggested he search for used sets instead. Three days later I get notified his grandpa agreed to pay for the difference, and I got my full asking price and made a kid really happy with no hassle whatsoever. No need to jump to conclusions about who is a true fruitcake and who needs to be blocked from your "shut up and give me your money" business, people.1 point

We caught vandals on video wrecking our Christmas light display and breaking into the make a wish donation box (empty at the time). The cops came out for the report. Sent a message to one of the local news stations. At 5pm, all of the major network news stations were reporting live with their vans parked on the street. The video was everywhere now. A couple of weeks later, the young girls who were caught on video went to work and their coworker friends let them know about the coverage. They saw the news videos and turned themselves in to the police. The monetary damage wasn't great so the cops told me on the phone after talking to the girls that likely charges would not be filed but the girls didn't need to know this if he wanted to drive them over to my house and try to scare them straight with a restitution plea. So they brought them over and they each made a donation to make a wish and I got the officer to chuckle when I told the girls, "Since you clearly have experience in taking down the display, you can help me take it down this weekend." They did and they turned out to be decent young adults who just got way too drunk and lost proper judgement. I ended up hiring one to help put some display pieces together the following year. And one of the news stations ended up doing a follow up. So, never underestimate the power of the news stations in solving these cases. We have had package thieves as well in our area and one home owner caught them on video and the local stations ran it for a week. Having the media cover it also puts pressure on the local police to solve it. The day after our vandals were on the news, I heard a radio commercial for crime stoppers describing our case! And I wouldn't worry about retaliation. Afterall, they will know you have their picture and they would be suspect #1 if something should happen. They will want to stay off the radar and hope things pass and none of their friends rat them out.1 point
