  1. The story about the 2 men escaping prison in New York has been fascinating. And so are the confessions coming from the one that was recaptured. I heard today that the original plan involved a different getaway vehicle. One of the inmates had been saving his $0.17/hour laundry wages for years. Then he traded some "favors" to the librarian to use the computer. He ordered a LEGO UCS Millennium Falcon from Amazon for only $6,000, and he planned to fly it to freedom! Shortly thereafter, however, tragedy struck: his order was cancelled for reasons as yet unknown! He was unable to secure another UCS MF, and was forced to hatch a new getaway plan that we are now familiar with. But he never forgot the Falcon; it haunted him. And Canada isn't too far from New York! Thus began his second attempt to acquire the Falcon, this time on foot! Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Third time's the charm? P.S. $6,000 would buy a nice Sleep Number bed.

  3. Finished up The Tumbler tonight. Book 4 Book 5 - Complete This thing is a beast. My son thinks it's a big toy, but it weighs a ton and I'm going to have to get it in a case soon.

  4. Tumbler has turned up at Asda in the UK, standard retail price, limit 6. (Still 1 at Lego EU) Reasonable possibly of discounts of this now, for the UK at least, as Asda isn’t shy about shifting product. Period of exclusivity on this is possibly over.

  6. I disagree on the word bad. This group is either a spoiled group of investors or has completely erroneous expectations. My portfolio continues to tick higher by about 5500-6000 since April. Not the normal average of 2.3% per month but higher nonetheless. The total return this year on average is still over 18% for me. I'm liking that all day long. That includes one down month of .5% I think. Not bad without the stupid volatility of the other markets.

  7. I have a question - you bought a couple hundred sets based off the advice of a guy who said it's easy money, yet he needed money, and then you decided that you would do some research on the topic? And most of your questions are answered in numerous posts throughout the site.

  8. While I don't believe Lego is in a bubble, I believe some sets like this one might be entering bubble territory. Lego just needs to make a few pieces that are rare but easy to make and the secondary used prices would drop. When the price disparity between used and new is large enough, most people will buy used instead of new which would drop new prices as well. Although I don't believe Lego will ever release a MF as big as the 10179, it is possible. That would most likely significantly effect prices. So for me personally, I manage my risk by trying to limit it. I would rather risk buying $4000 worth of modulars rather than 1 falcon. That's just me and my 2c

  11. This brings me back to the Canadian LEGO Shop at Home 10179 pricing error(?) back in 2010: Sadly even then i thought this was too much for LEGO

  14. I agree with Brickson, if I had a 100% genuine, mint 10179 and I didnt need the money then I would keep it. Until the value became relevant. Probably leave it to someone in my will.

  15. You might want to double check those numbers. Where is this thing selling for nearly $30?

  16. If you strongly believe this set will be worth 10k to 15k in the near future, I would be stocking up some more at 4k-5k each if I were you.

  19. That's in the US... The cheapest one currently for sale in Canada is $5200 on bricklink. Add the cost of shipping that sucker with proper insurance and tracking ($100) and we're at 5300. On eBay, the cheapest one currently for sale that lists shipping to Canada is $7k+... and then tax on top of that when it crosses the border. Brickson's 6k was on Amazon - what would the fees have been? 15% equals $900 in fees... $5100 < $5300. I don't know when this all transpired, but it doesn't seem that long ago which means perhaps the "cheapest" one available could have turned him a profit, but it would have been small and had significant risk.

  20. By a long shot, IMO. I liked building it, except for the barber shop. It just felt out of place and like they were trying to be too clever. DO is good... PR is a hard act to follow.

  21. this thread should be merged with this one: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/12563-legoland-florida-lots-of-rare-finds-in-plentiful-stock/?page=1 I went to Legoland, FL near the end of January this year and found the exclusives to be picked through already. Perhaps shortly after the new year?

  22. The EU sale pushed a lot of stuff out of stock and to sold out, that are still available in the US. I think it is safe to say that most of those will likely be gone in the US by the end of the year. However licensing can also play an issues, as does popularity. Licensing rights can be quite different in the US and EU, so sets like the Hobbit, Star Wars, and Super Heroes (including Lego movie Batman) may live on in the US after being axed elsewhere. Also it is known that many sets, particularly Super Heroes, sell much better in the US, so that also could delay retirement.

  23. As an IT guy myself, it's always best to report issues with very specific actionable examples: EX: Chima Set # 99999 is showing a value of $100 when it typically is around $50. Perhaps its due to being commonly bundled with set 888888 It makes the problem much easier for him to track down. Forgive the unasked for advice, but i know Jeff has a thousand plates spinning and this is likely what he'd ask for anyway. It also gives your defect a better turnaround time.

  25. Welcome, The camper was a set many thought would retire earlier, but never did. The fear is that it's an ever-green set that just won't retire like the Death Star or Tower Bridge. However, Vallar Legolus, "all sets must die". When it does, you'll be sitting pretty. This is a waiting game, and you basically have to wait not only for 'retirement' but for folks to really flush their stock before you see huge returns. Good luck to you!

  29. 1. People are always interested but if you're going to try an entice members of this forum, the price will have to be pretty low. Returns on older bionicles are hit and miss with only the most popular sets bringing in top dollar. 2. Yes there are now fees. The fees are 2% of the total sale + your PayPal fees. Brick Classifieds takes the fees right away so you have no "monthly invoice." 3. Yes you can restrict where you ship. 4. Possibly .. there is a feature to sync with your eBay listings if you'd like to list it in both places. 5. Kind of an open question... take good pictures, consider fees here are quite a bit lower than eBay and Amazon so price accordingly, if you're listing has some good stuff in it will attract Bionicle collectors. If you have specific questions about a specific feature of BC, I suggest posting your Qs into one of the dedicated threads or the general thread. It'll probably get more eyes on it.

  30. Opened up Iron Patriot and built 76006 - Iron Man: Extremis Seaport Battle for War Machine. My 7-year old son is enjoying the boat too, but he was nice enough to point out that the boat wasn't in "Iron Man 3", doh!

  32. Pack them when you receive them and be done with it. On topic - IF you have $6,000(US) to spend on Lego for investing, one can reasonably assume that you have a closet to fit 30 $200 sets in. P.S. - Alpine, I preferred your old avatar. That is all.

  34. London Drugs presently has a 15% sale on all Lego. And until tomorrow June 30th, we get 25 CAD off for a purchase over 100 CAD when paying with Visa Checkout On top of this, you don't pay provincial taxes if shipping to a province where there isn't any London Drugs. Overall, it's not a bad deal at all, especially if you have some free shipping coupons (otherwise, free shipping is above 200 CAD). Better hurry though, the Visa Checkout promotion ends pretty soon.

  35. Jeff, you should take a page from "Scotty". Multiple all of your estimated times by 4 so people think of you as a miracle worker. Example - "I'll have the latest update done in 8 days" and have it done in 2 Everyone else can chill out

  37. I almost always take your side of this type of argument (easier for 2 set to go up 50, then 1 set to go up 100), but since i was debating myself on the topic today i'll play the other side. Storage space and transaction time needed for 28 X-wings or just 1 Falcon? There's some value to that. especially if you say, well how about 4 falcons vs 112 UCS X-wings. It essentially allows you to play high-stakes lego investing without having to own a warehouse, and you only have to ebay 4 times vs 112. Just devil's advocate.
