I made my first sale, and it was a QFLL sale too! Flipped an Airjitzu Ninjago Flyer I bought at retail (9.99) for $19.99.3 points

Most recent Batcave for $185 CDN shipped on Amazon. Figure I made $60 profit off this $80 purchase less than a year ago.3 points

Unfortunately, this set sucks. There...I said it. As cool and collectible as the T1 Camper and Mini Cooper are, this set really cheezes out. It really should be another 400-500 pieces. If you are going to redo a classic car, then do it right. Sorry LEGO, this one is a fail.3 points

I made exceptions today. 10% off with the Merlin Pass. It was a pristine box, not use to that in my collection. Stands out from the other misfits lol tonight will be damage shopping2 points

My wife called me the other day and said she got an email with a 25% off coupon for Legoland (California). I was busy at work, so I couldn't grill her for details. But my mind immediately jumped to "dang! What exclusives do I want to pick up?" Thoughts of $300 DSs danced through my head (among other sets that I would be carry back to the car). About an hour later, I call her back, and she breaks the news to me - it's 25% off a ROOM at the Legoland Hotel! Don't toy with me like that woman!2 points

I got a couple things, some is 20%, some is 25%, really odd, but it worked with the 10%.2 points

Loved the premiere of season 2, just wanted to hit the Imperial March on an endless loop on my iPod. I know we have the new movies coming out in the next few years and the product line for this year has already been unveiled, but I'm really hoping they put out more Rebels sets - especially the blockade runners and command ship used by the rebels. How about a minifig of the grown up Ashoka? Maybe a new Lando figure? Lots of potential on this show, and the teaser for the season showed Rex making a return. W00t!2 points

Agreed! The only reason I bought this set is because of the pic you posted sometime back with Smaug on top of T. of Orthanc.2 points

Architecture. If it weren't for that damn MBS, I'd have every one. But I just can't justify the cost to complete my collection. And modular (of course).2 points

Single set of every Mixel produced up to this point. I think the first series that I will have every single set is Scooby Doo.2 points

Yeah that might happen. I hope it doesn't, it should be that poor design is reflected by poor sales. We all know this isn't true but it might make lego think twice when it comes to this type of set in the future I cant see myself buying this at all, unless it significantly discounted As some one said earlier the Le Mans racer 42039 is excellent, and I can pick this set up for only £7 more Such a disappointment.1 point

I also got a Gallimimus for free with my Icebreaker. They had a box of them sitting behind the service desk. Time for some polar bear vs. dinosaur action!1 point

(Shameful admission) I bought a Chima set from Amazon (cathartic, but still embarassing) and it arrived with nothing more than brown paper wrapping. The box was not only dented and smashed, it had been ripped open. Two of the bags were missing along with some wheels. I contacted the seller, who said this was how they shipped everything. I snagged pix and they dragged their feet, but I was eventually able to return the set for a refund - about a month later!! Fellow BPers: If this was you, or this is how you ship, please be up front with potential buyers so they can end the transaction before it begins or change your errant ways.1 point

I was scrolling through the entertainment portion of Google news and saw the headline. Ironically, moments after I posted this I saw a listing on Amazon for an Ant-Man Lego set. http://www.amazon.com/LEGO-Superheroes-Marvels-Ant-Man-Building/dp/B00UYNAGTI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1435253868&sr=8-1&keywords=lego+ant+man1 point

Yes, you would need 1 brick adapter for each ship. That configuration also has 2 xl arms, a dual arm, and 2 elbows.1 point

I dunno if you are still interested, but here's my 0.2 Hard to say. I'd say that not all ships are a good investment. If you can get it on discount it might be a good flip at around Xmas time. Long-term I don't think it'll go up in value too much. Then again it could be like the King's Castle, which has actually appreciated not too badly since it was discontinued. This set, however, is far from EOL as it has only been around for less than 6 months.1 point

LEGO Ideas (minus 21100 Shinkai 6500 Submarine) for now and I would like to eventually tackle The Simpsons.1 point

My own personal experience is that Amazon ships the Lego sets in oversized boxes with maybe a strip of large plastic bubble and that's it, the sets have a 50/50 chance they will be damaged, whereas all 3rd party sellers I've ever purchased through used excessive bubble wrap/packing peanuts/packing paper to make sure the expensive sets were protected well.1 point

just make sure that you are not counting the rewards while making a purchase and also while redeeming (like you are doing now). that's double counting the actual gain. once when you acquire the ebay bucks and second when you redeem it. { i am not saying you are doing that purposely, it just happens. I used to do that too } but now i don't count when i earn it but only count when i redeem it. that way i am not double counting it. and exaggerating the actual value of reward. as long as you are careful anything works1 point

I wouldn't really be relying on Xpose for cutting edge interviews and Lego news. A better question would be what in god's name are you doing on tv3's website1 point

you're assuming that there will be LEGO sets for a new X-Men movie. Coverage has been pretty spotty. Sure they made Avengers and Iron Man 3, but they skipped Thor 2, Captain America 2, Wolverine, and X-Men Days of Future Past, I am not even sure if the Electro set counts as an Amazing Spider-Man 2 set, Then we got Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers 2, and a single Ant-Man set. There's no hint of Fantastic Four this summer for their movie. Rumors persist that Disney/Marvel is trying to tank the properties that Fox has the distribution rights to, so they can bring them back in house. Their actions include killing Wolverine and cancelling FF Read from that what you will. There have also been mentions of LEGO making stuff for the upcoming Bat v supes movie, and Captain AMerica CivilWar, but not one rumor of anything related to X-Men Apocalypse. I doubt that TLG wants to make an end run around Disney to get to Fox and make X-Men sets, because that might potentially jeopardize all of their Disney owned properties.1 point

Sorry, but no. Lego does not operate on common sense (from a consumer perspective at least): Common sense would have had TH retire after PS. Common sense would have seen HH last through Halloween instead of petering out weeks prior. Common sense would have seen R2-D2 still going strong through Episode VII release instead of bleeping out after 2.5 years. Common sense would have released Elsa and Minecraft sets earlier during the peak holiday shopping season so Lego could reap the initial profits instead of astute QFLL's at the last minute. Common sense would have avoided all the shenanigans with Tumbler and Research Institute last year. All this is CHAOS, not common sense... and it is the way of things now until PROVEN otherwise. By the way, common sense says large sets DO have to retire to make room for new ones.1 point

I think the history of this thread (among others) is a very interesting case study in the current Lego reselling climate, potential for a "bubble", and nature of basic economics. Toward the end of last year we were seeing virtually no new production of this set, and most critiques were fairly harsh, with uninspiring design and overpricing among the most popular complaints. Everyone seemed to agree it was a very poor seller, with speculation about early retirement. People had their different opinions but we all wondered: 1. Would it stick around much longer or join the then-blossoming list of "surprise" EOL exclusives? 2. Would the almost non-existent demand continue post-EOL, or would R5 become a real sleeper investment? Oh my, how times have changed! The answer to #1 is still unclear, but partially answered over half a year later. Question #2 is now growing moot, however, as the overall number of this set out there has seemingly increased quite dramatically in the same amount of time. After R2, AA, and HE blinked out, we have had months to stew over the next exclusive to be sold out, and the CONSTANT speculation / hype has really had an effect, in my mind. Sure, some of you still don't like this set, but people are buying it like crazy anyway. No one seems to think it will be a 10227 anymore (only worth investing at a major discount, so far). WHY? Well, I can come up with several theories, as usual. Some people have money to spend, and there is no doubt this set takes its share these days. It would seem both Slave I and TIE Fighter UCS sets are better loved, with high variance on appreciation for Ewok Village and less, but some disagreement on Sandcrawler. So why aren't any of those threads blowing up at all? Is the Episode VII hype highly responsible for the renewed interest in this set? Meaning end-consumers are a very high percentage of buyers? Or are resellers over-hoarding it now simply because it is generally "expected" to retire next (along with Pet Shop and ToO) and none of us know when it will sell out? If so, isn't this bubble-blowing behavior? Is the constant status uncertainty from SAH indicative only of the current high demand, or also of "low" supply (clever tactics) by Lego? Better yet, were they actually planning to retire R5 prior to this summer at any point in the past, or was the plan always to make room for it to shine alongside the UCS TIE once Episode VII hype started building? Does 7965 (MF) recent performance factor into this situation much at all, in terms of there being an "iconic trump card"? In other words, does being in the investment spotlight for a while make that much of a performance difference in today's marketplace? Food for thought, especially for newer investors. I personally have enough answers to make a judgement call, and believe there are much better options out there for my money.1 point
