  1. Finally, my R2 shelf is complete. Thx for everyone's contribution. I think I'm going to start another row of these. These will not be on the market again for a minimum of 4 years.

  6. eBay's online shipping calculator considers everything "oversized" in both dimensions and weight because in reality you're supposed to be shipping LEGO that way. To get the cheaper rates, you just use stamps by weight from the local post office. Here's my rule of thumb: 1) Box, use the shipping calculator. 2) Padded envelope, use free shipping or charge $2. I don't do parts though so that works for me. People who part sets use all sorts of creative ways of packing (taping baggies, sticking plates together, etc) into that 2cm thick rule and then based on weight may go over the basic $1.90 for a regular weight oversized item.

  9. Like most people I'm sure, our space to display sets is limited... I really wanted the Slave I to be in one of our IKEA Detolf cabinets but it's just a touch too tall for a single space within it. So this was my solution .. I used some plates, tiles and support pieces in dark bluish gray to "drop" the glass shelf about 4" which is more than enough room to fit the Slave 1. I may have to replace the plates with bricks if they sag too much but all the weight is on the supports anyways. The plates and tiles just keep the supports from being knocked out of place. Sorry about the glare.. stupid phone. The pictures were dark and out of focus without the flash forced on. The Mini and T1 fit with just two supports, but it looked cramped. Three struck a good balance.

  11. Please post your Date codes once everyone gets these in hand. Also interested to see if these start showing up in retail stores again. It's funny, when i looked at these sets in October / November of 2014 they all had 2013 date stamps. I'm talking like the 15th - 20th week of 2013 in late 2014. Then the set starts doing the dance and we get run after run after run of new date stamps. Is it possible to see the number of unique date stamp codes on this ship that we have in the Brickfolio Db? I'd be curious to see if there truly was a long gap that i perceived based only on in-store research. Even cooler would be a bar chart showing the most common date codes for a set. Certainly wouldnt be scientific, but perhaps if we got enough folks to enter them, you might see where a set had peaks and troughs along its production run. Do sets truly increase production and consumption at the end of their run due to resellers 'causing' the dance? Or would resellers behavior (waiting till last moment) make it just appear to be this way.

  12. It's been a busy 48 hours. I've been doing a bit of summer clean up on my storage area. I've been trying to streamline and narrow my focus on what I really want to invest in both personally and for resale purposes. Glad to get rid of some of these sets and reinvest the capital. 7965 millennium falcon 9493 x-wing 9492 tie fighter 60052 cargo terminal 70006 cragger's command ship 70005 worriz combat lair

  13. I'm aware of my own shortcomings in set picking. That's why I bought 15 10225 instead of zero. I would seriously rather have a whole fleet of Chima fire bikes than one assembled 10225 (for display, or especially to play with). But I'm not my market. The people who are best at this are probably those who are AFOL's themselves. I like Lego and owned a couple hundred dollars worth of classic space sets as a kid, but I can't see spending $360 on a 1-foot tall plastic statue of R2. On the other hand, when I mentioned this to a friend the other day, he pointed out that I've spent far more than that on Magic cards, and they're just little pieces of cardboard with pictures on them. Touché.

  19. I'm positive the set will do just fine, I was just answering Alpine's question. Indominus Rex was awesome in the movie (especially in IMAX-3D). If you want to get all dino-technical, In real life, Velociraptors, weren't anything like they Jurassic Park/Jurassic World depiction, and they're still iconic.

  20. Smaug never existed in real life either. Is he not a "legit" dragon? Think Indominus will be just fine

  21. The brick yard uses both of the lego land pieces and one of the grilles. Since I have two grilles I must have another set from that era on my hands that I'll have to hunt down.

  22. Then don't be afraid to mark it as best answer.. I'm curious which set you have for the grille... I love that piece!

  23. After seeing the movie 75917 raptor rampage became a lot more important to me as a collector since owen, claire, and dinos were major. I only say this since this set seemed to get little discussion and i wasnt wowed by it, but now seems like a very important set and a lot cooler after seeing movie.

  24. I think those are the rates for buying shipping when you sell through merchant fullfilled. So you sold and item and now have to ship it. I do Amazon FBA. So I send in large shipment of legos and then Amazon does the rest when they sell. You get Amazon shipping rates. I will show example of my last shipment. It was 2x Ninjago Ultra Sonic Raider, 2x MechDragon, 1x Chima Mammoth and 1x Battle for Ninjago City. All pretty large. Shipped from PA to TN.

  25. The movie was very good. Fury Road was in my opinion, the summer blockbuster of the year, but this one was really good too. I think investment-wise it has potential. I also think they need to seriously consider a wave 2. A petting zoo, a humvee bus, and a monorail set with more dinos.

  28. Not relevant?! <scoff> ... the movie was visionary. Remember, " ... the ship's log is showing that today is the 700th anniversary of our five year cruise. ... So, be sure next mealtime to ask for your "Free Septuacentennial Cupcake In A Cup"! Wow, look at that. ..." It was a silly joke when the movie aired. Now Steak-n-Shake, Zaxby's, everyone has a "birthday cake" milkshake! So ahead of it's time.

  29. Stopped by TRU and they stocked a few MTT. Carried one up to the counter and asked if they were honoring digital coupons yet? I mentioned the stores appear to be all over the place with the policy. She said no, no pictures either, only existing ones on their website. I showed her the 25/20 bar code, she frowned, said no, reached into her pocket and gave me a legit mailed version. Rang me up, scanned it, and then gave it back to me. $58.96 after 13% gift card.

  30. I think I may be going to hell, saw that Christopher Lee had died and my first thought was, ooh, that might add value to the Tower of Orthanc. I'm now going to go and hang my head in shame for the rest of the day. Fair thee well Dracula, Saruman, Count Dooku and Scaramanga, RIP.

  31. I agree with most of this. I also think it depends on scale. Some people have their operation setup where they can find a box for just about anything so packing and shipping takes the same amount of time for a polybag, battle pack or SSD. I find myself scrambling to find boxes that aren't too big for certain sets. By the time I find the right one and get it packed, weighed, sized and a label printed I've burned up a half an hour. I know that sounds inefficient but I'm not at the volume to justify having everything on hand. I'm not real strict on trying to calculate an hourly wage for this venture/hobby. If you add up all the time I'm on brickpicker, I'm making pennies per hour. I enjoy this as a hobby, a way to earn some side income, and most of all, a way to justify the feeding of my hoarding instincts

  33. Today I had a chance to sit back and put together a couple of sets from a lot I bought recently, 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty and 7623 Indiana Jones Temple Escape. Enjoyed building the ship, although it is very similar to the current Brick Bounty set. The Temple Escape recreates the scene from the movie well, but lacks the WOW factor for me...
