I let my personal feelings about how I thought the Delorean build looked awful get in the way of investing in that set. I guess nostalgia wins over how a sets look in this case. Dang.3 points

Dude, cool down! You are making us all look bad. Now spill it....was this another CL deal?3 points

I'm going to beat that dead horse again... Every investment needs an exit strategy. The profit is good now and the gains for the next 12 months might be minimal to negative depending on what comes next. Every investment has risk. The profit is good--I'd say go for it.3 points

Hello New BrickPicker members and forum users... Due to spammers, jerks and bots that attack the site and forum constantly, we have implemented a 20 Post Approval System for new members and forums users. Each of your first 20 posts needs to be approved and content checked by Admins/Mods. After the Admins or Mods approve 20 of your posts, you will no longer need to get approval to post. We constantly check for new posts, but we apologize if there is a slight delay for post approval. Thanks...Ed Mack2 points

I have 20 of these. I don't know any ice cream trucks other than the batman Joker one and that one did super good. Everybody loves ice cream trucks right? If I'm right I win, if I'm wrong I break even.2 points

There's that word again. "Heavy." Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the Earth's gravitational pull?2 points

It probably will be the PS first, but it's hard to get decent numbers of a modular set 6 months before it's due to retire. I've been hustling to get 4 PS but I want 8. I have more PC at this point. I'm a member of the buy early and hold strategy.2 points
-
I only have one. I hope to acquire three before it goes eol. Hopefully in time I can raise those numbers but I can't financially afford to buy a ton. Preschool is freaking expensive. I think 10 is a great number. It's also good not to put all of your eggs in one basket......although the modulars seem to be a safe and consistent bet.2 points

Ya know, it does make sense that CT would be carrying Lego... everything else you buy there comes apart after you use it a couple of times...2 points

I just wish LEGO would give some of the larger sets a chance. Enough of these $50 sets. How about a kick butt $400 set?2 points

Ideas is such a disappointment that I've completely tuned it out at this point. I get that many of these submissions are just not feasible but big sets and interesting licensed IPs are cool; birds and labyrinths not so much. The Exo Suit was probably the best Ideas set but I didn't even get that one since I'm not really into classic space or mechs. Most submissions can now basically be sorted into 3 categories: Small vignettes derivative of the Research Institute, niche licensed sets (sorry but Golden Girls and the Goonies are about as irrelevant as you can get), and completely infeasible monstrosities.2 points

I've pretty much given up on Craigslist. I've had a bit of success on there, but now all I get are lowball offers. Interestingly, I've had some people local to me ask to pick up their bricklink orders themselves and pay cash, so I've saved on shipping and paypal fees that way.1 point

It's hard sometimes not to let your personal feelings get it in the way of a set, but I try not to let it. I try to think of the overall appeal to buyers, not if I really like it or not. I bought a ToO and I don't like it at all. I think it's a good investment though.1 point

I am way light on PC. I've got six PS, and seven GE, etc. PC is the modular I have the least of but I will be acquiring some soon hopefully. Gotta figure out which exclusives to buy during the Winter Soldier promo.1 point

It sure was. I prefer to sell on Craigslist although a lot of people hit me up and then never get back to me. People are super flaky on there. If I start having trouble selling sets I'll probably put them up on eBay. I want to avoid fees and shipping costs as much as I can.1 point

Hence why I said "AFOLs".. I didn't use the term KFOLs. Newly emerged AFOL's will see these sets and buy them mostly for themselves. So, i'm not really as confused as you think. I realize who the target market is. Most kids are going to be into the new episode 7 sets and that will be their generation of toys, not these retired OT sets, although there maybe a few here and there they will want. I'm sure anything with Jabba, or ewoks could be wanted by little critters. But for the most part, AFOLs are going to be the ones that will be buying the retired OT sets. Personally, my little boy prefers the prequel film sets over the OT sets, to my distain. Anything with battle droids he's into, and they get more play than any of the OT sets. The OT sets tend to be more for my nostalgic tastes. We built the snowspeeder a few months back, and i whoosh it around the room more than he does.1 point
-
I think you are a tiny bit confused, the market for OT sets isn't the kids I dont think. I don't think it's the parents of those kids either, it's the adults who want the sets for themselves. Not that it matters much because the OT sets are gonna be scooped up regardless. Just won't be for little kids to destroy, misuse and misplace. The kids will be perfectly content with the newest sets.1 point

That's true.. But, id still recommend at least holding onto a few. You might be able to blow the final ones out for over 350 to 400, if you hold onto them another year. At 60.00 you aren't losing money, and you're basically playing with great profit money at that point. Then next year, use that 700 from the final 2 to scoop up 10 AT-ATs and rinse and repeat.1 point

With such strong demand, i'd really consider holding half your stock until after the movie or raising your prices. I just think demand for these older OT sets are going to be even stronger come December 18th. I'm going to go against the grain on this one a little. Once people are like "holllllyyy cow, that movie was awesome, I MUST BUY THE TOYS for my kids, just like I had as a kid"... then they see all the lego sets that they missed out on, many of which are retired and have the OT stamp, it's more than likely going to only get better. Granted, new falcon vs old falcon, but there's going to be a lot of new AFOLs out there partial to the OT version. Of course the movie could suck, and the hate machine could be cranking on high, at which point, you might be glad you sold them all now. But, with such a good amount of stock, you don't want to blow them all early.1 point

If it goes this year, I think it will be a great investment no matter where you are. I remember someone arguing at this forum saying that TH won't be popular and appreciating worse due to it's unpopularity, even when EOL was suddenly. I'm not that long in Lego investment, but I think there is one rule that applies to big iconic Lego sets that are part of a line (modular, world iconic buildings): No matter how ugly and unpopular, when it is scarce and rare people just want to have it and willing to buy it at good prices. When SOH goes suddenly, you can't have enough of these sets stocked. I will do just fine.1 point

I agree. I enjoy the process of picking orders and slapping a shipping labels. It's fun knowing someone will be excited opening your package you shipped.1 point

I'm only clearing about $4.50 per (I just upped my price by a whole dollar so now it's $5.50 per). For me it's an attempt to hit Top-Rated status (the 100 sales in a year has always eluded me) to save 20% on fees when I go to sell some more expensive stuff later this year. Well that and if I can sell all the ones I picked up it'll be about $240 in my pocket at the end of the day.1 point

Just reloaded on JW polybags from my usual TRU hangout. I'm guessing these things aren't very available in the US as 4 out of 5 sales are going to the US. The poor exchange rate must be helping too. I hope I sell out before they show up down south.1 point

Are you surprised? The recent Ideas sets have all been speculative bubbles and they are still sitting on 3000 retiring soon Exos. I think they are doing everyone a favour if they redirect this particular line.1 point

Walked into the lego store today...."do you have any palace cinemas in stock?" Employee.."oh no. Sorry, palace cinema is retired." Me..."oh really, cause i called yesterday and someone told me you will be getting some in." long story short. I asked him to check in the back low and behold guess what he walks out with. So yeah lego store employees really know very little about what is "retired" and what is not lol1 point
