I ordered the brick bounty (70413) for $52 and some change at Kmart and I'm getting back $30.52 in points6 points

I don't. I just read that Lego is releasing a new, bigger PS next year for the same price, with updated pets (maybe one of those glowing cats you can buy in Hong Kong that are genetically modified with bioluminescence genes from jellyfish) and scenes from the PS where Stallone's girlfriend worked in Rocky.5 points

The Walmart near me conveniently has the "scan here for price" thingy right in the Lego section. When I'm over buying groceries, I'll hit the Lego aisle and scan a bunch of items looking for a mismarked item. The annoying part is the super loud beep each time you scan something. Anyway..... I've noticed a few big sets that are gradually decreasing in price in the scanner system - but the price marked on the shelf stays exactly the same. There's a particular $119.99 set that was at about $105 for a week, then $100 even, now today it was at (if I remember right) $84.95. I've watched it go down in price over the course of a month. Same for another large set. And I see several others where the shelf price is $99.99, but the scanner will say something like $99.36. Off less than a dollar, but maybe that's a sign that it'll soon be less than $99.36, and maybe a bunch lower. Anyone have any experience following trends like this, and then scoring?1 point

I would love to, but for cost purposes, and my sanity in building wings, I am going to say this is after Black 2 is blown up.1 point

At Fred Meyer, there is BOGO free coupon for minecraft (on shelf). Was posted right at Lego, so I tried it. Success, but needed override.1 point

Speaking of Goodwills, got a complete 76023 TUMBLER at a local B&M Goodwill today for 100.00. The box was beat to hell, so they let me open it to see if it was complete. Everything was still sealed. The lady said they got it in a bundle of stuff they got from Target, as Target gives away a lot of their overstock to Goodwill. Another local Goodwill had about 15-20 JOKER STEAMROLLERS a couple of months ago...also from Target for 20.00.1 point

8 of my 26 were had at that price. Walmart cancelled the order on another 8. That was a good day.1 point

This is a relative comment because people in North America will have the same problem selling the Maersk Triple E after retirement compared to European sellers. The North America Malevolence market is very healthy. Just another reminder for newer investors to research their respective markets (TabbyBoy is definitely not a newer investor!).1 point

The new one is far superior to those old ones... but I'll just keep my UCS version. It's still my favorite all-time set. Ahem... it's better than free sandwiches.1 point

I don't even really understand what this Infinity is? Is it a real game? What do all those other characters have to do with it? That part is pretty funny actually.1 point

If this one goes away in the next 2-4 months I will be one happy camper. Can you say thank you "walmart half price mistake sale". I believe this will be a great performer in retirement and the price/piece count will not be seen/offered again.1 point

I'm very happy about that Lego Movie / Ultra Agents week. I really like the Ultra Agent sets (for my personal collection) and I know the Cloud Cuckoo Palace will make a nice gift for my daughter. So I'll probably be getting the Palace, Infearno interception and the Toxic Meltdown for that sweet hazmat guy. Sign me up for the Brick Bounty has well, maybe. However I have a feeling it will go out of stock really quick..1 point

Blacktron time! 6894 Invader. Set's pieces were in pretty good condition, box less so. But still. $29.32 from eBay.1 point

Whenever I return something to Target, they open up the box and verify the contents before crediting my account. One of their CS people did tell me that folks return empty detergent bottles filled with water though. Why Target accepts returns on something like that in the first place is beyond me, but I would love to see the scammers' return records follow them around like bad debts or felony convictions. Without some serious penalties (more serious than just saying, 'you can't return stuff at Target anymore'), this is never going to stop.1 point

Found a couple of old sets in 2 different TRU today: 4x 21008 Architecture - Burj Khalifa 2x 4430 City - Fire Transport Hope to find some R2D2 next!1 point

It was when I worked at Target, I found it on the shelf and opened it. Used it as a training exercise, that scams been around longer than most people think. 20 years ago people would reseal stereos filled with assorted junk and return them.1 point

Larger set boxes are more durable, so it would be inconvenient to have to press through a thick piece of cardboard to open a set, IMO. Small boxes can also still be opened by melting the glue that keeps the box faces together. Unless LEGO starts to shrink wrap their sets, I don't see how they can improve their situation. Even then, people can probably reseal shrink wrap or buy a shrink wrap machine.1 point

I have emailed Lego a few times suggesting they improve their seals. I have told them about the sets I have had to return to Walmart because they were full of Lincoln logs or books when I opened them. I have told them about missing minifigs. I have had them replace missing minifigs. If enough people email them or call them about it enough times perhaps they might start to listen?1 point

did you shake it for that abs/celulose sound? obviously puzzles dont sound like legos1 point

I would trust the results of looking at recent "sold listings" rather than information from folks here that maybe haven't sold any complete sets recently.1 point
-
true, usually they are very clear and transparent when new, somewhat cloudy when re-attached. you may be able to spot lack of uniformity in glue, foreign debris, or misalignment of small torn off paper under the seal if scum was a newb or in a hurry. i have even seen fingerpirints1 point
-
I thought I remember reading somewhere that the seals are a bit foggy when re-attched if they have been removed using heat.1 point

you need a really accurate scale to do this. craigslist/no way to return, probably does not qualify for this option unless you weight it on the spot. if craigslist you can try to meet a local post office that has a scale available to the public. If someone is particularly crafty they can make the set weigh what its supposed to. i have not seen a perfect set that has been tampered with yet. every one of them has signs of tampering... BTW weight of TM is 6402g according to bricklink and 14.11lbs according to BP. this may vary slightly by humidity1 point

Tonight, while my fiancee was watching Pitch Perfect 2, I reassembled my 10210 Imperial Flagship (gorgeous) and finally built my 6256 Catamaran and 6278 Enchanted Island that I picked up last year. There is also a 6266 Cannon Cove that I picked up last week but the pirates are missing but the extra Imperial soldiers are better anyhow. My only complaint is that I will have to take these apart in the fall to make room for other builds (finding a home is a separate issue). I am positive that the Islanders land is to scale, compared to the pirate ships, because the Black Pearl and the Imperial Flagship are probably from the Marvel universe where they are needlessly loud and large.1 point

You need to develop some techniques that work for you... Smooshing isn't hard for the majority of the figures but there can be one or two in each series that are harder. This is what I do: Give a quick smoosh - say 2 seconds - to see if it can be quickly identified. Some are so unique like the carpenter guy in Series 13 who was the only one with a 1x4 tile that usually you can quickly tell. If I can't figure it out quickly but think it has promise, I put them in a pile. If I figure it out right away, if I want it I throw it in my to keep pile and then resort them at home (good luck trying to keep them sorted during checkout :)). If I haven't found what I want, I'll go back to the "promise pile" and try again. First find a big piece, push it to a corner and then squeeze it. Shake the bag gently so the small pieces fall to the bottom. Shaking too hard just means everything falls .. Try to identify the smallest pieces... 1x2 tiles, unique pieces like the snake, unicorn horn or swords. I also usually don't stare at the bag and use my Jedi senses to feel instead. hahaha Seriously, when I stare at the bag it just makes me want to move onto the next bag in my peripheral vision.1 point
