Why doesn't everyone wait until this xmas and see what just about any SW set does for you. I bet those that bough UCS b-wings at msrp will be able to make money. I don't think some of you realize just what is coming this winter.4 points

My general philosophy is that any original trilogy-based Star Wars LEGO set with an MSRP over $100 that can be had at greater than 25% discount (e.***. bogo 50%), is a buy. This set which has some cool minifigures and is an iconic scene will do well once people can't have it and thus they want it. Come this time next year I expect this is getting to $170. This set's 2013 sibling, the republic gunship is already getting this on ebay. At the same time, with the new movies coming out, we might get lucky and interval between rehashing gets stretched out to accomodate the newer sets. For me this is a medium term hold - 1-2 years.3 points

I don't really care if it retires in six months or 2 years, I've got the number I feel comfortable with. Whenever it does finally go and the F5 brigade all start freaking out I can sit back with some popcorn and a frosty beverage and enjoy the show. This isn't timing the market, this is waiting the market out. Point is, if you think this set is a good investment, and you have the scratch, why wait until it's hard to find before you get one or ten, or go all Ed on it? Or, go all hulk on it in this case.3 points

just an FYI, talked to SS and they are in the process of having all accounts changed to a unified north America account, so you can sell both in the USA and Canada for the same fee2 points

The DC is thining out around here as well. August will be 2 years for it, so I am really hoping to see it retire before the 4Q so I can capitalize this Christmas. If not, this is one of the few Friends sets that I have faith in long-term because it is such a unique and impressive set and I don't see them ever remaking it.2 points

So I've said it before and I'll say it again, for those having trouble with the coupons, be polite and persistent. I called the store manager about the coupon Nazi and calmly yet thoroughly explained the situation, including the exact wording on the exclusion, the fact that Lego Architecture sets are coded for the registers AND appear on the website under Hobbies and Collectibles, NOT Toys and Games, and the fact that she said she knew it would work but wouldn't scan it. He asked for a name, which I didn't have... but he said if I came in when he was there he would scan them himself and go with whatever happens - no override, which I emphatically agreed would be inappropriate. Of course when I got there a different cashier cheerfully typed in both coupons (someone else got FW #3 in the meantime) and all three gift card codes without hesitation, so no manager was required. Most people are average or better human beings, some just weren't cut out for life as a social species. If I run into that old bag again, I'm calling her out. I don't care how long the line is!2 points

hi snot, i agree with binici. it's def a set worth holding into for at least another 6 months especially since there isn't another way to get Jabba anymore at retail (sail barge has retired). it was also discounted often during it's 2 year retail life which might explain the slower than expected (for some, not me) ROI. furthermore jabba's palace is a favorite among star wars fans (new and old) in film scenes / plot and toys. after the death star, it's prob ranked 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in terms of popularity with Cloud city and Hoth. The Cantina and Dagoboh are prob in the next tier. i'm holding into all of my NISBs Jabba Palace's and wish more were in my collection. I do have 3 loose ones though (2 sets w/o figures) to build sometime with my kids. my Jabba dream would will be building this... (update : i just purchased the instructions for $17.32 ) http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/instructions-SW-Jabba-Palace-Support-Rancor.htm It looks awesome and integrates with your existing Jabba's Palace (9516) and Rancor Pit (75005) sets. 2 points

Legowalker, I think you should hold your SB sets. I think even the old sail barge will rise again in value... Think about it this way. When the new set was released, it basically hampered the secondary market on the old one. When a new buyer can purchase the new sail barge on the market for 119.99 or lower, and the other one was going for 300, most people are going to opt for the new one. Now that both are in the hands of the secondary market, both will probably be comparable in price again. I wouldn't doubt the old one goes back up into the 200 to 250 range quite quickly. It already looks like it is getting a steady rise upwards again, and once the march/april data is released on this site, I bet we see it swing up again. Also, it's getting more rare as a horded item as time goes on so it may go higher than that. Add in that there are going to be a lot of new SW fans flooding into this world come December 18th, and these two sets are going to have some old fashioned demand. There's no Jabba the Hutt currently in a set that isn't EOL, and so this one will be valued by some. Don't let that dip fool you.2 points

$300? This card is $100 yearly fee, a third of that. The Platinum only has the 295 buck annual fee. I got the black one. They gave me a 'welcome bonus' of 30,000 points after activating it and making three purchases - mine were fuel, groceries and some Simpsons S1 minifigs ( you have to make them in the 1st month). Got it just the other week. I crunched the numbers and I stand to get $500+ in DJs gift card money over 12 months if I use it for most purchases. Triple points for Coles, Woolies and major petrol stations, Double points at DJs and 1 point for every dollar spent elsewhere. I've been doing it for years with other cards. Spend up and pay it off in the interest free period. If you can manage that, you benefit.2 points

Some sets absolutely make more sense to QFLL ... so you have to ask yourself, is it worth it to QFLL a set for $5 or $10? Personally, I do a little bit of QFLL'ing but not too much as I just simply don't have the time or energy. Many people do though have a good reason to do it. Doing some quick flips can quickly build seller feedback on eBay... it can make you a few bucks here and there to reinvest... it can help get your feet wet with selling... it can bring more attention to your listings on eBay, etc. Personally I wouldn't touch any of those sets you mentioned at MSRP. It takes too long (for my time frame) to realize gains that make it worthwhile.... But if you're looking at 4-5 year investments some could be OK. You have to consider the usual: How popular did the set seem at retail? How exclusive and desirable are the minifigs? <--- big point right there What kind of discounts might these sets have seen? <---- i.e. Arctic Batman could be had for a LOT less than $24.99. Are they TRU exclusives that are going to sit on retail shelves for a year longer than everywhere else (think Mine 4204)? My strategy is mostly big stuff but I dabble in the smaller sets I am guessing will do well. A few polybags here and there too.... Some minifigs by the case... all provides some variety and yeah, a little fun in trying to pick a winner. PS .. The expression is "bread and butter" OR "meat and potatoes."1 point

I wouldn't bother with the box on a used set. On top of the $20 you spend on the box, it will double your shipping cost. On used stuff, I usually ship without the box, even if I have it.1 point

I think it will do fine, no fuss no muss. Since most here bought them on discount, it will be a good double+ by early 2016.1 point

Forget the rules and lets take a look at the bigger picture. This kind of spamming turns potential buyers away from eBay and not just any kind of buyers, the ones who are ready to spend $$$ on expensive already retired sets. Which buyer likes to search for deal on an item by going through pages and pages of unrelated garbage ? How is this going to attract first time buyers ? Of course old timers like me can screen out these sellers, but most new buyers would as likely leave in disgust never to come back again. This is fine and dandy until these kind of sellers are ready to sell their expensive already retired sets1 point

It probably maxes out around $200. The earlier model goes for $160 new and this model isn't that much of an improvement (IMO).1 point

dingbat was the only word I could think of that wouldn't be censored by the forum. That's not inventive, it's manipulating search results and THAT is against eBay policies. Maybe they aren't dingbats, maybe they are just lazy morons who think their listings are more important than anyone else. Maybe they have 4 hungry kids to feed so they're desperate to sell something. Maybe they don't care about eBay as a marketplace and are just selfishly grabbing everything they can. Or maybe they are just greedy and ignorant and don't care about anyone else but themselves.1 point
-
Is it wrong? I'll leave that for the ethics gurus. It certainly violates ebay's search and browse manipulation policy and they can permanently ban you from doing it. Will they? I doubt they get enough traffic to generate enough complaints these days.1 point
-
Spam MPN'S, dingbat sellers? Why not say thank you for finding inventive ways of capturing more viewers/eyeballs/screentime? Is it wrong? I am not versed in every single eBay policy. If it is not against site rules then what is the problem exploiting the system already in place. You never know when a Lego pirate fan might want a new shiny millennium falcon. Let the berating begin. 3..2..1..1 point
-
Unfortunately plenty of sellers also spam the popular MPNs on ebay. Further complicates the search.1 point

What are you lads using for shipping large NISB sets? I won't be getting into any serious selling for a few months yet, but I'm putting a couple up for sale in the next day or two. I've used GLS to ship some large used sets before, and it costs €41 to ship to EU and €26.50 to the UK. Add another €4.50 onto that if you want them to collect from your address. Is there any cheaper options?1 point

Big no-no. eBay insta-ban. Personally, I'd report it. This behavior hurts nearly everyone here. Yeah, he made a mistake. There are consequences to one's actions. Believe me, he's done this before. If he gets away with it time and again, he'll just continue. I'd report it, and let eBay handle it from here.1 point

I would not dare to compare buying an SSD at well over retail to invest with CC or ISD as the latter are from an earlier period in the investment cycle and have real rarity value. We will see how many SSD´s come crawling out of the woodwork over the next months and how prices evolve. There is also real danger of a remake happening, something much less likely with modulars. For me it´s a no deal as there are better ways to invest that kind of money.1 point
