Why doesn't everyone wait until this xmas and see what just about any SW set does for you. I bet those that bough UCS b-wings at msrp will be able to make money. I don't think some of you realize just what is coming this winter.4 points

My general philosophy is that any original trilogy-based Star Wars LEGO set with an MSRP over $100 that can be had at greater than 25% discount (e.***. bogo 50%), is a buy. This set which has some cool minifigures and is an iconic scene will do well once people can't have it and thus they want it. Come this time next year I expect this is getting to $170. This set's 2013 sibling, the republic gunship is already getting this on ebay. At the same time, with the new movies coming out, we might get lucky and interval between rehashing gets stretched out to accomodate the newer sets. For me this is a medium term hold - 1-2 years.3 points

I don't really care if it retires in six months or 2 years, I've got the number I feel comfortable with. Whenever it does finally go and the F5 brigade all start freaking out I can sit back with some popcorn and a frosty beverage and enjoy the show. This isn't timing the market, this is waiting the market out. Point is, if you think this set is a good investment, and you have the scratch, why wait until it's hard to find before you get one or ten, or go all Ed on it? Or, go all hulk on it in this case.3 points

This is price manipulation . Report them and they should be shut down or something to that effect3 points

just an FYI, talked to SS and they are in the process of having all accounts changed to a unified north America account, so you can sell both in the USA and Canada for the same fee2 points

The DC is thining out around here as well. August will be 2 years for it, so I am really hoping to see it retire before the 4Q so I can capitalize this Christmas. If not, this is one of the few Friends sets that I have faith in long-term because it is such a unique and impressive set and I don't see them ever remaking it.2 points

So I've said it before and I'll say it again, for those having trouble with the coupons, be polite and persistent. I called the store manager about the coupon Nazi and calmly yet thoroughly explained the situation, including the exact wording on the exclusion, the fact that Lego Architecture sets are coded for the registers AND appear on the website under Hobbies and Collectibles, NOT Toys and Games, and the fact that she said she knew it would work but wouldn't scan it. He asked for a name, which I didn't have... but he said if I came in when he was there he would scan them himself and go with whatever happens - no override, which I emphatically agreed would be inappropriate. Of course when I got there a different cashier cheerfully typed in both coupons (someone else got FW #3 in the meantime) and all three gift card codes without hesitation, so no manager was required. Most people are average or better human beings, some just weren't cut out for life as a social species. If I run into that old bag again, I'm calling her out. I don't care how long the line is!2 points

hi snot, i agree with binici. it's def a set worth holding into for at least another 6 months especially since there isn't another way to get Jabba anymore at retail (sail barge has retired). it was also discounted often during it's 2 year retail life which might explain the slower than expected (for some, not me) ROI. furthermore jabba's palace is a favorite among star wars fans (new and old) in film scenes / plot and toys. after the death star, it's prob ranked 2nd, 3rd, or 4th in terms of popularity with Cloud city and Hoth. The Cantina and Dagoboh are prob in the next tier. i'm holding into all of my NISBs Jabba Palace's and wish more were in my collection. I do have 3 loose ones though (2 sets w/o figures) to build sometime with my kids. my Jabba dream would will be building this... (update : i just purchased the instructions for $17.32 ) http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/instructions-SW-Jabba-Palace-Support-Rancor.htm It looks awesome and integrates with your existing Jabba's Palace (9516) and Rancor Pit (75005) sets. 2 points

Legowalker, I think you should hold your SB sets. I think even the old sail barge will rise again in value... Think about it this way. When the new set was released, it basically hampered the secondary market on the old one. When a new buyer can purchase the new sail barge on the market for 119.99 or lower, and the other one was going for 300, most people are going to opt for the new one. Now that both are in the hands of the secondary market, both will probably be comparable in price again. I wouldn't doubt the old one goes back up into the 200 to 250 range quite quickly. It already looks like it is getting a steady rise upwards again, and once the march/april data is released on this site, I bet we see it swing up again. Also, it's getting more rare as a horded item as time goes on so it may go higher than that. Add in that there are going to be a lot of new SW fans flooding into this world come December 18th, and these two sets are going to have some old fashioned demand. There's no Jabba the Hutt currently in a set that isn't EOL, and so this one will be valued by some. Don't let that dip fool you.2 points

$300? This card is $100 yearly fee, a third of that. The Platinum only has the 295 buck annual fee. I got the black one. They gave me a 'welcome bonus' of 30,000 points after activating it and making three purchases - mine were fuel, groceries and some Simpsons S1 minifigs ( you have to make them in the 1st month). Got it just the other week. I crunched the numbers and I stand to get $500+ in DJs gift card money over 12 months if I use it for most purchases. Triple points for Coles, Woolies and major petrol stations, Double points at DJs and 1 point for every dollar spent elsewhere. I've been doing it for years with other cards. Spend up and pay it off in the interest free period. If you can manage that, you benefit.2 points

This thread will be like my previous builds (links below). Intro : While waiting for the missing 10173 elements to arrive, i decided to build 10125. It was recently picked up on eBay for $109 shipped (used, no box). The $179.99 set was introduced in May 2012 and consists of 2,127 elements including a R2D2 minifig that was recently refreshed. The elements are in 15 bags. For more pictures of the box, please refer to this review found on eurobricks. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69410 Like other builds, I'll will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and provide a recap. Bricklink's element inventory of this set is ... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10225-1 The 4 reddish brown "Hose, Flexible 12L with Tabbed Dark Bluish Gray Ends" elements are exclusive to this set and can cause some difficulty in bricklinking this set (usually costs about $2.50 -$4.. The UCS sticker sells for about $10. For more details about harder to obtain elements, refer to Grolim 's review. Here is the Lego Designer video of this set. I think you guys are being a little harsh on king156 here. I'm appreciative of his post, and I hope all this backlash doesn't stop him from posting in the future. He's not anything like that rude person who posted about the PC retiring this year. Okay I'm done with my soapbox now. And just to add in my 2 cents, I don't think that Lego will refresh such a large set with an even larger one. For one, the pricepoint would have to be $500 or more which would be the most expensive set that I can think of. Second, how often do we see a refresh of an item within 2 years of retirement being around the same pricepoint (within a 20%-30% pricepoint increase or decrease)? No insider info here, just using common sense.1 point

Nice, need to list my 10695 on CL then...just sitting here collect dust not knowing what to do with it since it's already saturated on ebay.1 point

Yesterday afternoon: DUPLO® Giant Tower $45 on Craigslist. 60057 Camper Van $20 (snagged 4 from Target when they were under a tenner each - 2 sold, 2 to go) on Craigslist., I forgot that I also sold over the weekend a 10695 Classic box of bricks for $35 on Craigslist. These things do generate interest and at a buy-in of $21 each from WM a reasonable flip for me1 point

It's not as tiny as you think, or maybe from what you saw. There are many large pieces in this set, including Jabba.1 point

My only regret with this set is the room it takes up that could have been used for more R2. I'm holding until Christmas, maybe longer.1 point

Nice find on the ESB at Targets. Keep working at it and it grows pretty easily over time. It is not an overnight process. Had my eye on these for awhile just had other obligations to take care of first. After official retirement yesterday decided to pull the trigger. Funny thing is I've counted them 3 weeks in a row. 17, 17, 17. They are still out there if you keep looking.1 point

I could have helped by acknowledging the drop in value, due to the remake, instead of assuming that people knew that it decreased by 40%.1 point

Make sure you pay attention to minimum purchase required and shipping costs on Bricklink. Probably best to wait until you need a decent amount of parts to save on shipping, though.1 point

It seems to be atm I guess. I was at a David Jones on the other side of town about 10 days ago. It was during the 20% off Myer sale. She offered to price match their 20% on any Lego I bought there, and while I was smooshing minifigs sold me on it. With the Black card, you normally get the 'welcome bonus' of 15,000 points, but she managed to get me double (30,000 of them). They came up on the statement added onto my 3rd Amex purchase in two lots. Anyway, you can choose membership rewards or Qantas rewards. Membership rewards are where it's at. Points can be redeemed for Coles, Bunnings, fuel and other store vouchers (no Target or Kmart), even to pay off the card at the rate of 15,000 per 100 dollars, and David Jones gift cards at the rate of 13,300 per 100 dollar voucher.1 point

I don't think there is any lucrative way of trying to ship competitively outside of north America from Canada, just way too expensive. I suppose if you had access to a big corporate shipping account then it could be better. I rarely ship overseas and never ship with any service without tracking for purchases over $40. If scammers are looking to strike they are more apt to hit you with a large $$$ purchase than small purchases under that $40 mark in my experience. You still take your chances with no tracking on the smaller items but the postal service still is reliable 99.5% of the time. I can say this with confidence as I've probably shipped out around 750 or more packages via Canada Post in the last 10 years.1 point

You'd think after nearly 20 years, eBay could fix all these problems. They are among the worst big internet companies, ever. So many things they could change: feedback system (based on actual performance data and defect rates; not flaked out buyer extortion), blocking of non-paying and new accounts (sorry, build some reputation before you try to buy a $1000+ item), and so many more. Thank heavens Craigslist and Amazon are now alternatives, at least for some sales.1 point
