Finished the main build tonight, just have bag 12 which is the stand / minifig. Will try to do that in the morning at the warehouse tomorrow. Looks really good when finished, very sturdy as well. Build time was somewhere in between 4-5 hours , kind of lost track. Now I'm ready for the next UCS SW...

Over the past few weeks I got: 30313: Garbage Truck (x60) for 34 cents each. There was a target near me that didn't put all of these out for Easter. When they went 90% off on Sunday, they still had 2 boxes in the stockroom. I picked them up before they went salvage. 3181: Passenger Plane (used) for $20. Got this at a local community sale. It was just dusty and missing a few common minifig parts. I will photograph it with Red Five next to it. Couldn't transport it today as the weather was bad. the wings are pretty repetitive. The second side I flew through compared to the first . I think that is how Red Five and this are though, look great when finished but both fairly easy builds for the price point. Going to do Slave 1 next and see how that build compares seeing they were all the same pricepoint.

Why would it matter if you're going to buy them all today?

Your html link is well formed however you can't link to sites like Facebook this way .. and it's not because BL doesn't allow it, Facebook doesn't allow what BL is trying to do in this case. I viewed the generated source of the splash page, and it's hosted in an html control called a <frame> .. any site requiring you to "login" probably won't work. BL was developed waaaaay back when <frame> was a control used a lot. Most modern websites no longer employ this type of control for the majority of the functionality for a variety of reasons - mainly they are a security risk (phising) and interacting with content in a frame is crappy. With that in mind, even if BL tries to prevent some HTML from getting into your splash page .. moving you over to your own hosted splash page won't matter because Facebook doesn't allow it to be hosted in a frame which is what BL uses for the content of each tab. Suggestion .. do this: <BR>Check us out on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gem-State-Bricks/1625510294338460" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and <a href="https://instagram.com/gemstatebricks/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> for updates and store promotions. <BR> By adding the target="_blank" to the html link, it will open the pages in a new tab of the browser. That's as good as it gets... and IMO a better user experience anyways. The more of these I see, the less I like the idea of creating full-blown modular sized buildings out of the set. I think the design plays better into a half-modular play style. I was excited to see them (almost) continue with the theme in the toy store 31036. In reality they cut corners and botched the toy store set so much that it is an insult to the 31026 set. other sets I've been looking at that might fit into the same scale though, town square, heartlake mall, daily bugle, maybe avengers tower. I just think that trying to scale it up just doesn't fit the design, and eliminates some of the play functions. I have to admit that last one looks decent though.

Personally, I would read each of these threads (since they each have one) & form my own opinion, rather than have strangers spend my money. But that's just me... ;)

I have seen a lot of people speculate about the pet shop, death star and palace cinema being at or near the end of the line. Who knows if that is true for sure, but if it is, I would focus on those to start.

There have been many discussions about the road plates. Indeed you should be able to buy them seperately. I also have alot of crossings that I do not use. It is a pitty. But I think there are some sale tactics behind this.

Wildbricks, you mean 1 plate at a time? Most folks would just prefer Lego sell the straight piece alone for cheaper instead of including that crossing plate...I'm sure many have extra crossing plates they don't use. Eventually I'll need to add more straight and curved plates. Slow build...many empty land parcels waiting for Cinema, Restaurant, Detective etc. just like Rome wasn't built in one day

If you have limited resources just build and enjoy it. Just accept you missed the boat and move on to the next oppurtunity. Palace Cinema or ... However... if you have unlimited resources buy the one for $450. I believe there is still enough space for growth on this one. As I've mentioned before... an MISB GG could be bought in January last year for 450 euro. Now, to get this set you will have to throw 700 to 800 euro on the table minimum. I still believe Town Hall will become scarce very soon. Also cause the end-user mostly will open and build it and add it to the personal collection. The longer you wait, the more difficult your decision will become to pull the trigger. Hope this helps.

I would just build it. But that's just me, not saying that's the most reasonable thing to do from a financial point of view. Regardless, mid to long term, CAGR for 3x PS (or PC if you buy into the early retirement hype) will most likely be better than 1x TH.

If you want to keep & build a Town Hall anyway, I'd go with your first option. 3 Palace Cinemas (or another good grower) are going to be worth more than a single Town Hall. My 2c.

Thanks, I'm taking my 7 year old son on Thursday. My problem with posters are they will get wrinkled by the time we get home hours later. Maybe I should bring a poster tube holder to the convention center this time. I believe Lego is passing out a limited lego set with mini sand crawler also at the convention.

Ok off the wall. Leave the one sealed on the shelf. Then buy 3 Death Stars. It's going this year I think and the replacement in my opinion will not meet this one. Keep them sealed too. I'm jesting but really I am being serious too. Something to consider.

Built Friends Lighthouse with my daughter. Great set - will be purchasing a few next year.

For larger sets, I tend to use air packs or Kraft paper (what I have left over from shipments I received). I use bubble wrap, plastic shopping bags, and peanuts for smaller sets. Once I'm out of left over packing material, I'll buy Kraft paper, as it is cheap and it is easy to store a few rolls (and doesn't require an air compressor --- I would get that for a larger operation, but my operation is quite small).

Honestly, I use whatever I get from my own purchases. Hell, even newspaper works fine as long as you use a properly sized box and make sure that the set does not bounce around. Now, for a more professional look you might want to purchase kraft paper as dcdfan mentioned above, or big rolls of bubble wrap. The key is making sure the set does not bounce around the box and that it has proper padding on the top and bottom. At least that's how I do it and have had no issues so far. Note, however, my main target market is not really the hardcore collector or serious investor.

The steering IS jerky but I haven't found it reduces the playability of the machine for me... P.s. I am looking forward to terrorising the fiancee's cats with it once they are moved in.

I always just pick Standard Shipping... They use DHL which charges WAAAAY less brokerage than UPS. Back in January, I ordered two MKII - total paid to Amazon UK was $376.23 as per my credit card statement. All of the invoice and packing slips don't mention the cost, but I'm almost positive Canada Post delivered it to my door and charged me $56.46 for a total of 432.69. Taxes for me are 13% (and the way Amazon fills in the declared value I ended up paying tax on the $8 shipping charge). That made each one $216.35 and the total "brokerage" was $7.55 which looks like it is 2% of the total cost (376 * 0.02 = 7.52). I'll try to find the invoice slip... It's still a good deal with the 2% brokerage fee which basically turns it into a 15% tax. Ouch.
