  1. Another thank you to TOK for posting instructions to another hard to find build. I BL'd this over the last couple of weeks and the final pieces arrives today. Without further ado, I present The Ghost!

  2. Sea Cow. Simple build compared to other large sets. No different building techniques then BP or QAR but the end product is a work of art.

  3. With a suggested retail of $59.99 featuring two skeletons (one with iron armor), Steve again, Alex, and the new Wolf, here is the second largest set for this upcoming wave of Minecraft. This one seems to offer an equal amount of bricks for the surroundings and habitat to house the player characters. Once again the display model is lacking the final details the box shows. Too expensive just as an army builder for the Skeletons but if you are also looking to amass pieces to create a desert wasteland this could be decent.

  4. It's hard for me to say that there are many new sellers these days because I myself am one. But I believe it when you guys say it though. Even at 30%+ off, SW sets pretty hard to turn a profit off. I can see the market is absolutely saturated. Gumtree seems even worse. Almost like a race to the bottom. The profits that some of these people are making must be so tiny. I've taken your advice Lucifer, and I've put some listings up on ebay to gain some rep. I made my first sale the other day, a hot dog man minifig. He sold for 14 bucks with free shipping. Truly just a drop in the ocean I know, but 120% ROI after all expenses. I don't want to get too starry eyed about it though, as the amount of money is tiny. Slow but steady is my motto. I can sit on most of my stuff for the long haul and I have a fairly steady income to keep things moving without having to sell hastily. Anyways, I hope you guys have a good Monday.

  7. Only got to spend an hour on it tonight. Did bag 5 which finished the cockpit off (those are the first 3 pics). Then the bags get kind of screwy. Have combinations of numbers that you are using. I got to a stopping point which is putting the wing together and finishing the one side of it. Looks like next you work on the other sides trim and detail pieces and connection parts to the center. All the black smooth large sections and smaller ones are covering up the inner parts of the wing. Lots of colors in side there (yellow, brown, blue, tan, etc). Took some photos just so show how big they are compared to the ship's center. The wing is just under 16" tall and 12" wide. Guessing about 1/2 way done at about 2.5 hours total and 7 or so out of the 12 bags.

  11. I can only tell you what's happening in Hungary. At the release of SH the hopes of some store owners were very high (I know the owner of one of the most popular stores), they stacked SH-s like crazy. It bombed. While modulars were frequently going out of stock. They still have the stock from back then, never had to backorder. This signals Hungarian demand quite well since most Hungarians are buying exclusives in physical stores, according to my experience very few people use s@h. Explains why overpriced webshops have 40k and 25k likes on facebook in a 10m country. Anyway I don'T believe that our tastes differ significantly from that of Europe. SH has a certain appeal, but with constrained budgets there are more desirable sets out there for EU citizens.

  13. I don’t really recall if anyone may have wanted to know how to build the San Diego Comic-Con The Ghost Starship exclusive mini-build but here goes anyway. Big credit goes to BrickTsar on YouTube for making a full video review with real good zoomed in shots of the parts list and a time lapse build slower than the previous Batmobile one. There was a few neat techniques and just a couple limited pieces which are the ice cream cone in black and the printed dome piece but everything else should be relatively BrickLinkable. I had to omit the astromech Chopper due to his torso and legs not being available in LDD. Be sure to click on each image if you need it enlarged same as before.

  14. I personally stay away from Star Wars due to the market saturation, even tending to be like that with the Super Hero sets (that doesn't leave much left ) I don't mind with the influx of new investors as the market will weed them out (the dodgy, quick buckers) and makes me more vigilant as to my own QA. I'm glad that you have taken my advise regarding your selling, as you yourself with see the influx at Christmas with fresh eyes and a bit of eBay rep will go a long way. Well I'm off to uni for 3 hours

  15. Modulars are, by some distance, the best builds out there is my opinion. Town Hall is a good one but I like some of the others that offer a bit more variety even better. Town Hall does have a nice commanding view to my town though. Finished putting the lot together last week.

  18. So I just finished my first modular (TOWN HALL) and man what an awesome build!! Fun and very creative design. Can't wait to start building the rest and putting a street together. My new fav Lego theme for sure. Took 5 hours 25 mins by myself including sorting. I was on fire. Only took a couple breaks.

  20. 76029 Iron Man vs. Ultron. Once again I normally don't go for the new ones but what the heck. I mainly bought the set for the Ultron Drones and needed to see if I really did want to acquire a small army of them. Unfortunately for my wallet the answer turned out to be "yes". The printing detail is phenomenal and while unique could be general enough for my desires. All three were exactly the same with the exception of the groovy helmet and new clear neck piece thing to signify the leader of this ensemble. The long antenna array looks over-the-top so I won't keep that on him but the headgear is tops and has great potential for other uses. Oh right, the Iron Man rules. I would say this version is my personal favorite but that may not be saying much because I think they're all awesome. Ha. On towards the build, well, there wasn't a lot there but then again almost all the parts were big ones aside from the eighteen or more translucent blue single studs. This was a mixed bag for me as when completed the craft featured some nice form curving here & there. The strangest is looking at it as an "officially released design by LEGO" instead of somebody's MOC only for the fact how the Ultron Drone minifigures were integrated into the ship literally. The concept makes sense and is kind of neat but still a bit strange to see this from LEGO itself. In the end it was very quick build with the highlights being the minifigures in particular the Ultron Drones in their army building glory. I am tempted to get another for more of those droids and wonder if I should just do so before the film hits theaters. The Cavalry Builder from The Lone Ranger disappeared fast and this could too. Anyway it will be tricky but I would like to try making an interesting alternate design here. One last thing, this was my first time getting to play with the new stud shooters. Man those are fun! And if you listen close enough with everything fairly quiet, you can hear the stud 'zip' through the air. It's just great. They can fly a decent distance and pack a punch for something this small.

  21. What I meant was that there are more and more investors on the market and we can even see that in smaller markets like ours. How many others have entered the game after GE and FB and are hoarding PS and PC? Thats why returns will be lower - not due to less demand but rather due to more supply.

  24. The big problem with SH is that it came out 10 years too late. 10-15 years ago it would have been gold.

  25. Like you there are many! But we can see that this set has still been quite hoarded for the life it did have - more and more are coming out of the woodwork in recent days. This makes me feel pessimistic about PS.

  29. It's always dangerous to read too much into one's own tastes, but I used to watch every Simpsons episode. That was decades ago. Since then I paid zero attention to the show until lego released SH. I have no trouble believing that Simpsons is more enduring than SpongeBob (although that show's been around forever too, and some episodes include cultural commentary along the lines of Simpsons). But I was selling SpongeBob sets last year, and definitely saw a steep price drop (about 30%) in long-retired sets. A set like Flying Dutchman that retired only last year is probably going to appreciate a little bit after EOL, but $38 including shipping on amazon is not great for something with a MSRP of $25. SH has a great interior, but the exterior, while accurate to the show, is really bland, and both the model and figures really only integrate with other Simpsons sets, still a pretty narrow universe. Lego is also apparently intent on releasing the family figures twice a year (new CMF series + KM), so there's zero exclusivity there versus a set like AA. I have trouble prioritizing SH over something like ToO at the same price point, or even a newer set like Tumbler (if it only has the lifespan of AA, this might seriously be a reasonable time to start accumulating it).

  31. Just a piece of constructive criticism that may help others as well. You do take returns.if a buyer wants to return something they will, and it does not matter what your personal policy is. Ebay trumps that. A good anology would be how fed law trumps state law. You are selling yourself short on any type of discount by not offering at minimum a 14 day return policy.

  32. Data on EU inventory levels comes from Brickset, from which I've made a local archive for my own use. Amazon sales ranks comes from camelcamelcamel.com Here's the link to camel^3 for the Simpson's House. Click on the "sales rank" tab, then adjust to show 3 months data. It will tell you the highest sales rank.

  33. To complete my analysis of whether EU inventory data tracks Amazon sales, here's the last bits. I'll compare sales rate in the EU data to Amazon sales rank for the last 3 months. We only have good EU inventory data back to early February, but using the rate (units/week) should be ok Sales rates are remarkably similar each week throughout the EU data. I'll also note the number of restocks of each set. Here we go. First column is Amazon sales rank, second is EU sales rate in units/week. 3rd column is number of restocks. Sales rate is my eyeball of the data, good to +/- 10 units/week. DO 9, 500 units/week, 4 restocks PS 9, no data - 0 inventory throughout PC 11, 310 units/week, 3 restocks Tumbler 14, 300 units/week, 0 restocks PR 32, 250 units/week, 2 restocks Simpson

  41. Very interesting, thanks ! However, the "AFOLS by country" numbers are completely wrong, because a poll available on english websites can't represent the real numbers of AFOLs from France/Italy/Germany/Spain/etc. (for example there are not 5 or 6 times more AFOLs in the UK (15.03%) than in Germany (2.76%) ) So no results (for this part) would have been better than wrong ones IMHO.

  42. I think Benny is just about done. And it makes me sad, because I don't have any. Very cool looking retro spaceship though. Take away the goofy minifigs and you have a fun collectible for adults. Put them back and kids can go to town. It's a win-win, or would be if my Walmart had them for less than $99.99. I'm lucky if they don't mark Lego up.

  43. Took me long enough to realize the correct character but the zombie in the Mystery Machine set is the witch's zombie from the episode "Which Witch is Which?". Come to think of it now, the witch from the alleged Monsters Minifigures series is a bit similar too but then again that is going for the more traditional Halloween witch anyhow. Seeing LEGO going completely classic is a good thing on every level. The vampire in the Mystery Mansion is Dracula (of course) from the episode "A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts". For the Haunted Lighthouse, it's a mix of old and new. The ghost in the set is the Lighthouse Keeper which originated from the "Lighthouse Keeper Scooby" episode on the Richie Rich, Scooby-Doo Show but the minifigure's design is based on the more current version of What's New Scooby Doo? in "Frighthouse of a Lighthouse". The Swamp Monster seems to just be one of those characters added in for good measure as the closest monster I can find is the Lake Monster from the Scooby-Doo TV movie "Curse of the Lake Monster" which still was more of a frog...thingy. At least the minifigure is cool while I can't say the same about the film source.

  44. Other than being animated cartoons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Scooby-Doo have nothing in common. At least with Scooby, LEGO completely went full-on retro to capture the classic appeal very well whereas TMNT was based on the Nickelodeon followed by the Michael Bay film versions instead of the original. As for TMNT bombing, is the theme even retired yet?
