  1. At LEGOLAND California they have one built in the store window, with a little bit of an MOC of the ocean underneath that really makes it look good. I'm working on recreating that look for the one I will be building. Here are some pics

  7. Sold 4 of these in the last day (64, 65, 66, 66) on ebay bin free shipping. Going to wait a week or two for the price to go up some more before selling more. Luckily I went deep (for me) on these when they were going for 27.99. My wife thought this was going to be a total stinker which makes its success even sweeter. This set will make it to $100 by xmas.

  8. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys. You rock. I'm not too picky on where we eat, as long as I get to watch my Badgers play at the same time.

  12. I found the builder showing off that Voltron design in a video here. All four 'lion limbs' are the same I think and I am guessing the body frame is similar to his other mech ones so maybe I can figure something out in Digital Designer to recreate it.

  16. Thanks for the tip. Tonight we are going to see the Blue Man Group, so we plan on eating somewhere near that. Our hotel is right by DTD though, so we will check out Miller's sometime over the next few days.

  17. Have fun, hit Miller's Tap House if you're looking for a good place to eat. It's not what you think by the name. It's a nice sit-down restaurant too.

  18. We are in Orlando for vacation. We stopped by the lego store at downtown Disney and I picked up my first Lonely Mountain. They were on sale for $104 and I had a 10% off one item coupon that stacked, along with earning double VIP for a future purchase. Came out to around $100 after tax. They had two more out for sale. Possibly more in the back. The kids picked out a bunch of Friends and Minecraft sets.

  20. Well I did it finally. Making the arm and leg lions were easy when I figured those out but the main torso was a pain in the ass aside from the obvious bits. Trying to decipher anything made out of black is always difficult. Anyway here is what I recreated in LDD. The entirety of Voltron uses 137 parts (or 138 if you include the 'flame blade'). Everything uses small parts so acquiring them should be easy if not a little repetitive. Only thing annoyingly tricky is getting certain angles in LDD but in real life it is very poseable. 21. Can't we all just agree that the high days of lego investing are behind us? Too many competition and too many competitors selling for "small" profit? Patience has died slowly and painfully. If sets were less hoarded and hoarders would hoard acceptable amounts of a set this all would not happen. Looking at how many 8110's are available still on ebay makes my head spin. You can even find the 8110 in toyshops at RRP if you want. Nobody buys them. There are just too many hoarded for a niche market. I am generally a patient guy. I do not go out and sell my Town Halls already cause I can more than double my investment. I will wait patiently till it becomes rare. But, like Biniou said, for the Unimog to become rare it can still take a year or two. And than he is right. Better to put your money elsewhere. What I have learned lately is that when people here say set X will do good cause the previous one from years ago was a success I will pass. Cause everyone will jump on it like flies. Lego investing is about buying cheap and wait patiently for it to grow. But if a set is overhoarded you can wait like forever.

  22. It was just a generalisation based on personal opinion of course. There are obviously people who are going for the figs which is understandable. However I believe that the majority is going for the vehicle. Most people don't even realise that the figs are supposed to be special, they are just a Batman and a Joker to complement the set. We are avid fans who know the sets to little details, even before release. Then Average Joe walks into the LEGO Store: "LOL Tumbler cool". That's it.

  23. I'm not concerned. This ship is awesome. I don't think anyone is buying it for the minifigs. The imperial flagship has all generic minifigs and is doing fine.

  31. I guess my point isn't that the minifigure aren't great (they are), it's that most people aren't buying these sets for the minifigures (per GhostDad's initial question - will demand to Sea Cow be limited because DDC has similar minfigures?). Secondary market buyers will buy the Tumbler because it is an awesome, challenging build with a kick-arse final model. The minifigures are a nice bonus, not the main event. I wholeheartedly agree both of these minifigures are great, just like Sea Cow's minifigures, especially Vitruvius, QueasyKitty and the mini-MetalBeard.

  33. While bargain hunting I ran across a few Mountain Huts (31025) at a Wally World for $25. I didn't realize they could be had online for $30 pretty easily, so I scooped them up. I won't be returning them, but WOW this set is HEAVY for the box size. 550 pieces in a $40 package, it feels like a brick when you pick it up. Probably the most "dense" set (non-Arch) I've ever come across.

  34. Yes. IMO licences are great so sets can be hold a long time. So it's a safer investment if you want to seat on these sets for 5 years. But because I resell my Technic sets quite quickly after EOL, I do not change anything considering the few time I hold them. Note that I don't want to keep my sets for a long time because, as I said before, in my country people do not buy Technic sets more than 300
    1 point
  35. Scenario for the biggest technic sets: 1. a set is released on year XXXX for $200 2. you buy it on year XXXX + 2 with 20-30% off 3. on year XXXX + 3 it's sold-out/retired, the price rises quickly up to RRP 4. on Xmas of year XXXX + 3 you resell it 20% above RRP (or higher if the set performs well) and so on. So overall about 35% ROI within a year (considering fees). Typical for technic sets (sets with RRP more than $80, little technic sets sold less than $20 are bad investments, because low profits and a waste of time IMO).

  36. We are missing the biggest question here.......is it Tech-neek or Tech-nick?
    1 point
  37. Yeah I don't really see the point in investing in Technic. Sure if you love the theme then by by all means buy, but with the size of some of these sets plus the slow growth I just think there are way better places to put your money.

  38. Just keep checking the usual sites. It seems people love the set itself but the minifigs aren't aging well when the newer more detailed refreshes or kids are older now (in the dark ages) so selling this is easy money. Thus, sometimes people just unload them for a good deal . This is the second 10188 I found for under $290 in 3 weeks. The $290 one was loose w/o box & missing 2 minifigs I already own. This one was $15 cheaper but the bags are sealed (we'll see when it arrives).

  39. When people see a Tumbler they are "wow, Tumbler" not "wow, Heath Ledger". The fig is a valuable addition, but not the strongest point of the set.

  40. I'd probably grab a couple more Mammoths at $40, just because. We have one, that my Son has battles with. I do have a couple extra Flying Phoenix, but I'm watching some Wal-Marts nearby that have them stocked heavy, but still marked $89.

  43. The St. Louis Kids Fest was a huge success! We scored all these polybags for completing activities. I was shocked at the amount of sand green parts in all the piles and activities. Got to hear one of 8 master builders give a talk. The kids had to run back and forth building a lego pizza. Tons of big models like smaug, vader, groot, hulk. Lots of people buying sets at full MSRP, such a shame lol.

  44. I bought a large bin of 80s Lego on CL for ~$80(US) I have identified the following sets: 6392 Airport 5180 Runway Base Plates (T and Cross) 7710 - Push along passenger steam train 7735 - DB Freight Train 7856 - Left and right 12v switches 7857 - 12v Crossing track 7863 - 12v Remote Control 7864 - 12v Transformer 7865 - 12v motor 7867 - 12v Lighting standards 4005 - Tugboat I am still looking through the rest for 7866 and there are about 5-10 other smaller sets. These are in good-excellent condition and should be complete and will keep me busy for the next month.

  48. I built some more old sets (almost out of them!) over the last week and received a few pieces to complete them 6075 Wolfpack Tower + 6078 Royal Drawbridge (these two are missing 1 or 2 minifigs, otherwise complete) 1853 - Hypno Cruiser. This set reminds me of Lego Movie sets and I marvel at how much better the movie sets do with a big tie-in. Overall, a waste of space and I will give it to a friend's kid. 1789 - Unitron - Star Hawk II - What a gorgeous ship, I REALLY like this and I did not build space sets when growing up, unless I took one from a sibling. I don't have room for these so I will probably put the 3 good sets up for sale so if anyone here is interested, please send me a pm and I will arrange to post it on BC for you.
