No price is too high for an SSD. I'm snapping up all I can right now at $800, 'cause some anonymous guy on this site told me it's sure to hit $2k by this time next year. Last Fall, I was buying SSD's at $700 and passing up HH and TH at MSRP to free up funds. So far that hasn't worked out, but I'm sure it will given time. After putting all my retirement funds into Phoenix real estate in 2006 and buying shares in offshore oil drillers on margin last summer, it's a relief to have finally found a sure-fire investment in SSD's at 2 x MSRP!4 points

I believe the discount in seller fees is 1% for a basic store so you should look at your total final value fee amount paid in an average month and see what that 1% would mean to you. I signed up for a store last year before Christmas and I'm glad I did. You get 150 free listings a month and it gives you a lot of freedom to not have to worry about using free listings or paying for listings individually.2 points

Set goes OOS - "OMG it's retiring!" Set is in stock - "Final stock before supply runs dry! OMG it's retiring" Give it a rest, not every set is retiring.2 points

If you sell 10 of these at current price? Man! That is some serious cash that needs some serious thinking. I would buy a few Tumblers and invest the rest in a nice far tropic paradise holiday alone with my wife.2 points

I guess one should not overestimate potential buyers' knowledge. Just like the thing with all those stickers on EEE, which 90% of investors know about but maybe less than 1% of all potential buyers - GE imo just looks better on the box than FB for example. So even if every "expert" dislikes GE because of some internal issues, most buyers will judge the book by its cover right away. And not only here but probably in every case of a set. That is also why I've always had a problem with the argument of "a great building experience" of a set. How many buyers will know about that 5 years after EOL? How many will even care if they knew? And how could one ever advertise a great building experience when selling? I'd say: Nobody gives a pooped snack about buidling experience and not about interior detail or any flimsy joint or unstable Tumbler build or anything like that. In a nutshell: What is IN the box, counts significantly less than what is ON the box IMO. Just my opinion. Most people just don't catch up on a set (or anything) they are about to buy. If they want it, they just go buy it. Remorse comes afterwards at the earliest. Just my experience. Never underestimate the apathy and ignorance of people.2 points

Everyone has $$$ in there eyes when a set retires because of the initial price bump. It's a slow climb after the initial little spark. One prime example is the 41999 if anyone cares to go through that thread you will see that most everyone thought that this would be the biggest thing in the history of lego sets. That's not been the case, as if yet anyway and probably wont ever be. IMO of you already have your desired number of the GE then just move along to your next set. By the way the GE is generally considered the worst by many enthusiasts as far as inside detail goes. It is my favorite modular though.2 points

yep, that's exactly who I'm on the phone with. I obviously don't care to have the item from them but at least get bozos like this off eBay.2 points

Let me try that table again - copy and paste from a spreadsheet looked great in the discussion board, but pretty ugly in the post. If you are worried about flat-lining and you don't really have to unload them (to deal with life or something), then why not wait at least 3 months past the new movie release. Just to see what happens?1 point

If there was one set I would hold onto at this point in time, it would be the SSD. But what do I know?1 point

so did she deny stealing it and claimed it was hers? i dont want to assume that is what happened because i dont like assuming. if so, I agree with Delorean. The kids learned from that lesson big time because now they know their mom did not buy it and thats all she had to say to get out of it.1 point

Rough math indicates that you could currently buy 1.5 Death Stars for every 10221 that you sell at $750 assuming that you don't pay tax (based on shipping from coast to coast). Even though the Death Star is likely to be a winner, why would you sell a sure thing so quickly after retirement unless you like the thrill of the quick flip, If you are a flipper, then items like the CT are a great alternative.1 point

Do the seals have the same serial ? If yes, 23g off is a problem. If no, 23g or even 67g is not. Because sometines the instructions and packaging are different. Take a look here: http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/10779-70816-bennys-spaceship-spaceship-spaceship/page-2#entry309492 So before doing anything: check if the seals are the same or not.1 point

If you don't like big sets without numbered bags, don't buy the Tower Bridge. Personally, I like the unnumbered bags in those sets. But that's mostly because I'm a parts seller on Bricklink and sets are easier to part out if all the same parts are together in the same bag.1 point

And if you go directly to this this url? http://shop.lego.com/en-DE/ If that doesn't work you should probably just throw your computer out the window and get a new one.1 point

nope, no more communication than usual. maybe the rate of scams for coins is higher than for other items, so the buyers were just extra thankful about not getting schemed. or maybe coin collectors are more active ebay members, as opposed to lego buyers who may be purchasing a set as a one time thing for a birthday or holiday.1 point

Coins are a much more mature market than LEGO in every sense of the word.1 point

I'm glad I took a chance and bought one. I'm not a huge LOTR fan, but this set looks cool and I can see why a set this big will go for some good $$$.1 point

Whole lot of everything wrong with a statement like this. Newbie investors should ignore statements of this nature. Folks should ignore orthanc to their own peril i saw 20 POTC blackpearls in many walmarts discounted. Look how that turned out!1 point

I don't know if age or availability is a primary determiner, but looking at the LEGO Shop at Home site and the number of sets you are allowed to purchase, and I get these as the most restricted sets with only 1 or 2 allowed for purchase at a time. TB is still at medium throttle like the rest of the sets with a max of 5. I'm kinda new at this and haven't had the opportunity that some of you have had watching exclusives go on sale, retire, and appreciate over the years, and I'm probably trying to see too much in the data ... OK, here is a theory. All the new Star Wars sets are coming out with Disney branding who are rightfully putting their stamp on all their Star Wars assets. This is no doubt part of a new licensing agreement leading into the new films. Quite possible they also stipulated that existing sets pre Disney branding must be changed (effectively retiring the set) at some future date most likely before the new films are released. Think about it. R5, R2, MF going or gone no surprises there. But throw in S1, EV, SC and DS all in Oct just prior to a huge new wave of EP7 sets are released. Would that surprise you? Would that cause just the right amount of chaos?1 point

Why argue with Lego about being a reseller when you are? I don't get that. It's not going to work anyway (no one here has gotten *out* of a ban that I know of). I don't like the policy either, but if Lego decides to ban me for being a reseller - even though I've got 8 Lego-loving children so as good of an excuse as anyone for why I buy multiples of any set, I'll take it like a man. There's very little in this world worth lying about, neither Lego nor money make the list.1 point

The Sydney Opera House IS a massive set once it is built, the biggest issue is where to put it once it complete. My build is sitting on my Lego desk in the garage until I work out exactly what I am going to do with it. I am thinking about putting lights on the set, not sure how and am looking to do it on a "no drill" basis. I did the following for New Year's Day, bit of a quick project at the time... <iframe class="vine-embed" src="1 point

1 Hr. 45 Mins to sort Book 1/4 completed in 2 Hr. 25 Mins. Total 4 Hours and 10 mins. I'm tired...that's enough Lego building for one night. Overall, pretty awesome build so far. Really enjoying it. This is only the smaller (steps) side of the Opera House. Thing is gonna be massive.1 point
