Just expensive items for WM to begin with. Not big sellers at that level. $200 Train set was destined for sales failure at WM. They clearance big sets like that and replace with others. Last round MF, Chi Temple was clearanced at a lot of stores then others got in those same 2 sets. Kind of like Target clearancing Fire Station then replaced with Police Station, then clearance Police station and got Fire Station back in. Just a quicker turnover on larger sets.3 points

All we need is this set having a short appearance in "fifty shades of grey" and we will be just fine regarding sexappeal.3 points

I second what Ed says above. These guys read all these threads and that is a pretty big task and try their best to keep it in order. Members do crazy and lazy things all day. Bad titles, duplicate posts, put the same post in multiple topics, don't search, answer members questions in PMs, etc, etc. It happens all day, every day. If the mods didn't do what they do, then many people would be complaining that there is no moderation and everything is a mess.3 points

There is no need for this. They do the best they can for free. Everyone wants to take shots at the Mods, but until you walk in someone's shoes, it is easy to talk. It is difficult keeping the threads in order. Many people post threads that can be added to an existing thread. They take pride in their efforts and try to keep the forum clear of spam and obscene discussions. This forum is pretty lenient. Other LEGO forums just remove your post and you disappear from the site.3 points

I feel your pain. I have several of some large exclusive sets but there are so many available right now and I'm limited by storage/capital to having zero or one of some sets that I really like. And for those that I only have one of at the moment, the devil on my shoulder constantly whispers, "open me...build me."2 points

My $5-$10 flips pay for my $50-$100 flips. As for hourly rate, easy to package/ship sets I can pay my 8 or 10 year old a buck to do it. Buy from store, update listing already made. Get notification when sold, have kids pack or do it myself. Do that 5 times a day and you have plenty of money for the exclusives and what not. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Brickpicker mobile app2 points

Could be a shortage or problem with a common component like tracks or power functions. The extra track packs are also sold out in the EU so that may be why.2 points

There is no one reason to think that the trains 60051 and 60052 could go to EOL so soon... these are classic city trains, no exclusives, and such trains are selling longer than 2 years. Why would the TLG finish these trains just after 1 year??? No logic. There must be a train every year on the shelves, previous trains (7938, 7939) were selling 4 years!, no reason to stop the production and make another train. This is a basic set for children, such as a police station, fire station, etc. I think the reason of "sold out" status is just a lack of supplies after Xmas...2 points

Not trying to tell anyone how to do their business, but if you are selling these at $75 - I just don't understand why. You're making what, $15 tops, and that's before incrementals like gas, packing/shipping supplies, etc. Factor all that in you're under $10. And what's your time worth to go buy it, and then pack and ship it? In a relatively short amount of time this set will hit $100 without problem, I just can't grasp why someone who doesn't NEED the cash would short sell these at $75. It's barely break even. Perhaps I just over value my time. (By "these" I mean Farsnworth House since it is what was being discussed)2 points

You cant. If someone is gonna scam you they are gonna do it. That's the risk you take selling sealed packs.2 points

This website is a business. It needs to remain professional and responsible. We never know who is reading the site. I really don't think you will see a free for all at brickset or eurobricks or any other LEGO community These guys are doing their job and we appreciate their efforts. If members would do what they are supposed to do then mods wouldn't have to do anything. Then there would be no complaints.2 points

I don't mean this as any sort of criticism or taking sides, but I could see some value in longer/busy threads like this being updated with a new thread yearly, or something similar: "Retiring Soon - Open Speculation - 2015" or something like that, which might make it a little more convenient for looking for current or even researching particular information from previous years. I can see this working on a few other threads too - Order Status, LEGO Employee Said, etc etc. Just might be more efficient/convenient.2 points

Look at the recent releases of the Maersk line of sets and I would have thought that they would have performed better. Enough off topic conversation. The Mods will delete all of my posts now.2 points

The value of time is very relative. I have a house full of kids (6 of them most of the time) and a full time job. I'm in better shape with a buy and hold/traditional investor perspective. I don't have time to spend running after clearance deals (which aren't that plentiful around here, anyway). More power to those who can. A 2.5 hour round trip to the nearest LEGO store is a trek when there's homework to help with, dinner to cook, and soccer games to sideline-pace. I think there's room for all sorts of strategies, and I won't poo-poo anyone who's making money and happy. Missing one of those two... why do it? There are other ways to find happiness and make money. Missing both, well... I still don't think the Sandcrawler is retiring this soon.2 points

I do hope the appeal to AFOL's with a larger Imperial Flagship type of vessel. I will keep building my own until they release the next verison.2 points

You have to consider Lego's fixed costs. The first AT-AT to walk off the production line costs at least tens of thousands of dollars in design and setup, roughly equal to a bazillion Danish kroner. The marginal cost for each additional set is very low. If Lego makes a habit of running 6-month production times, they'll wreck their margins. Neither the star destroyer nor the AT-AT is going to be a low-sales set like 10227, so I'd wager this is a little hiccup in the distribution chain or something, rather than early EOL. As for the cargo train, I have no idea. I've always preferred ******-scale.1 point

Exactly. Solid advice. The double strength postage boxes are ideal for heavy sets like this and pretty much expensive sets in general.1 point

Which is exactly why the next Lego Ideas 80's throwback set should be a Love Boat!1 point

I understand that, but that wouldn't explain why Lego B&M are is longer going to carry them or why Walmart is clearancing them all out and "deleting" them.1 point

It all makes perfect sense. First JJ Abrams & Kennedy want a traditional May 2016 date. Iger is insistent on a December 2015 date. Things are bad enough it may even be why JJ Abrams will not be doing Episode VIII and IX. JJ Abrams & Kennedy agree to the December 2015 date. Yep things going great. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/J-J-Abrams-Fighting-With-Disney-About-Star-Wars-Episode-VII-Release-Date-43646.html Now things are going so well and so ahead of schedule even with Harrison Ford's injury that they want to move the release date up to May 2015 right when Avengers 2 is going to happen or July 4th. Somewhere in there. Yeah JJ Abrams does a complete apology and moves it a year ahead of when he wanted and not just 6 months which he was upset about. So now lets release the movie and have all the toys stuck in the west coast port docks because having merchandise available during the movie is not important. Lets load up the stores with the merchandise 3 months after the movie comes out. It can't possibly effect sales. Yes I see it all now. Like I said I will probably eat crow but this is absolutely ridiculous.1 point

Worst packing I've received from Amazon in a long time - luckily no damage. Fedex dropped off a box that I could live in, probably 5 ft by 4ft and was completely open on one side No packing material at all, pet shop, TowerOO, 2 birds and two small non lego toys. Huge empty space and everything rolling around. Was afraid the tower on the bottom was smashed but luckly fine. Kind of packing I expect during the holiday from amazon - not mid feb.1 point

In the final sentence of the Brick Bounty review the reviewer expressed the desire for the Imperials to get their own ship to oppose the Mighty Brick Bounty. Make it happen LEGO and make it of the the scale of the Imperial Flagship.1 point

Every topic on the site generally runs 'unmoderated'. It's only when someone decides to post anything considered along the lines of being profane, abusive, or pornographic does the moderation come into play. No one here should ever feel afraid to leave a reply. Simply put, talk with others as you would yourself and there honestly should not be anything to worry about. This is metaphorically awesome beyond literal words.1 point

I would not let Farnsworth go by. I sold 28 of them in the last 60 days at $75 (paid $40 on them during the BAM BOGO and coupon stack). It is a very popular set. but I stil buy them at the $54 when I see them and save those for down the road. If it sells that well while being in stock on B&****** website it will jump when they are gone. Falling Water is great as well just wouldn't skip over Farnsworth.1 point

Yeah, that was lucky. You couldn't tell from the online pics that it was the rare version. Needless to say, I was stoked when I saw it. It took every fiber of my being to keep from screaming "f- yeah!" during the sale when I pulled it out of the ziploc baggie. Coming soon to a Brick Classifieds ad near you...1 point

Thanks for the update, that sounds about right. Shipping is crazy expensive in Australia, it's about US$30 to send this set within just Australia!1 point

Hard to explain in english, that's those moments when I feel bad... Well, I'll try to explain myself. Take a look at this: For me it means the item can be sold for Xmas at MSRP, and because of its quite low value it makes a nice (new) gift for families that haven't a lot of money. Rest of the time, nearly no sells. Even for used sets. Zero used items sold ? Does it mean it's so cool everybody want to keep it ? Or that it's not seeked after ? If you look at this link, I think there are too much red lines (unsold sets) http://www.ebay.fr/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=lego+31011&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=2 When I said that I would grab some with a high discount, that's not because I'm so greedy or fearful and want not risk investing with my sets: that's just because I would REALLY fear to be stuck with THIS set. So getting some with a high discount, I could resell them with a discount too (compared to the MSRP). And hope it's enough to make these sets fly away. That's what I did with galaxy squad and lone ranger sets. Bought 50 or even 60% off, resold with 30% off. I didn't want to keep those sets, to join my Atlantis, Naboo gugnam and Podracer sets (only 1 of each, pfiu ! glad not to have some more, it's really taking dust). Of course, I may be 200% wrong and this set will have a nice CAGR... or maybe not. I have a bad feeling about this one, so I share my opinion. I think that losing some money is something (invest $50, sell $40, so you lose $10: not a big deal), but beeing stuck with sets nobody wants is another thing (invest $50, no sales, so lose $50, and have to make gifts to your friends any family or be ok to highly discount your sales, and that's why I talked about discounts). Well, I understand that people here like this plane (the propeller moves when you pull the rear wheel, it's a nice 3 in 1...) but because I do not believe in the potential of this set I think it's ok to share my thoughts. Sorry if I offensed some people, it really wasn't my point ! Look, I love galaxy squad, especially the 70708 and the 70705 even if this theme is a failure as an investment. I will not be glad to see my friends investors disappointed and think "too bad for this guy, stuck with 10 boxes, I had a bad feeling about it, I should have share my thoughts". (I hope my english was good enough to be understood ! ^^ )1 point
