If you investors think a stock count or other investors stocking 50 or a few hundred of a set is going to make it a bust, I suggest you move on from Lego investing. A few thousand is nothing. How many of any of these exclusives do people think lego produces to be the #1 toy company in the world?7 points

What would you do if a store .. TRU btw .. would call and tell you they found something in there warehouse that you've been looking for so long .. Got a phone call yesterday around dinner time .. -" Hello Sir we have found these sets that you asked for a long time ago ! ... " -What ? .. are you sure .. ? is that some kind of joke to do ?? .. - "No Sir , I really have these in my office waiting for you .." --- Very funny .. you almost got me thinking it was real ... hahahah - " Sir I insist .. I really have these .. come tomorrow morning to pick them up " This morning I called them .. and believe it or not .. I'm now a proud owner of ... drum roll please ....... rararararar5 points

Met a really nice lady today and gave her 200 for a huge collection of clean and fairly new legos in some giant bins. So far in the hour that I spent looking I saw a motorized at-at, the malevolence, hoth echo base, b-wing, a-wing, magnaguard starfighter , nice slave 1, lego movie stuff, ninja stuff....at least 30 sets. And way too many minifigures to even sort right now. My five year old son is drooling. Was gonna try to talk her down to 150, but when I saw how much she had I just gave her the 200 and was super happy. No instructions or boxes, but I met her son and he was super nice too. She even gave me a bonus box of random stuff that she found.5 points

1. I think you can be a little nicer with your posts. Life is short - be nice to people. I know you are just fishing for the truth and want to get rid of misinformation, but it can be done in a friendlier fashion. 2. Here is one point of data for Town Hall sales: Amazon sales ranking via ccc. Click on the Sales Rank tab, and select 1y. http://camelcamelcamel.com/LEGO-Creator-10224-Town-Hall/product/B007Q72ZA8?context=browse vs. Pet Shop http://camelcamelcamel.com/LEGO-Creator-Pet-Shop-10218/product/B004P2HMNM?context=browse It seems pretty clear that PS has always sold better than Town Hall ever did (except now when darin is buying all of them). It's of course possible than Town Hall sold like gangbusters elsewhere and we just don't know it. But that seems improbable given its early retirement. Have a nice day!5 points

I wish folks would stop thinking in such black-and-white, true-and-false, rigid terms. I too believe TH was a poor seller based on my own observations, and very limited chat with employees. I fully believe there is merit in what Cross says too, as his experiences are wider and deeper than my own. But at the same time, I don't take either of our opinions as gospel in terms of actual sales numbers or objective truth. That would be foolish. But o disregard seemingly reputable information based on the principle that if the whole truth can't be known, then nothing else can be considered true is equally or more foolish. As I've said elsewhere, pieces of information like these are INDICATORS and merely pieces of a puzzle. They can be key to figuring it all out, or misleading, or meaningless. The investors who figure out which indicators go in which bucket first will generally be able to maximize their investment better than those who don't. Let's allow some room for different perspectives and uncertainty in our discussions, eh? (But I do appreciate the moderator beat-down on those completely obnoxious know-it-all posts especially by new members, for the record. )4 points

Satanists, lol. Tolkien- who wrote LOTR- was a die-hard Christian, and biblical themes (agree with them are not) are scattered throughout his stories. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were part of the same writing circle (The Inklings), and both based what they were doing on Christian themes (C.S. Lewis much more blatantly). Having built a ToO, and placed a Lego Smaug on top, I can tell you the effect is outstanding. This set is big, highly-detailed, and draws upon a literally work that is older than the majority of members of this forum (pre-WW II). Your two hundred dollars may be better spent adding 39 dollars and buying a Tower Bridge. Mine has been spent purchasing both. You will never see a Tower of Orthanc produced from TLG again, ever. What you will see, however, is future fans of Lord of the Rings- both the books and the movies- coupled with new-found Lego fans- who stumble upon this extraordinary piece and deem a several thousand investment worthy of what Tolkien's incredible work will mean to them. Ignorance of what this set represents is holding back many investors.4 points

You should buy a death star, and put it in a random bin, or bins, and tell him you scored this new lot of bulk bricks and if he can help you sort them.. Boom, Priceless memories there. Just a thought.. I know it may lead to him thinking you can score something like this all the time, but tell him it's all about luck and timing..4 points

Rumor has it that the Castle line will return but with the fantasy era which included dwarves, orcs, and ogres aside from the usual knights. It would seem time for my brethren to make a triumphant return. FOR THE HORDE!!!! The Brick Fan3 points

Perhaps it's just geographical "semantics"; which stores do you frequent? Weekly coverage for: - Canoga Park, CA store - Glendale, CA store - Anaheim, CA (Downtown Disney) store - Costa Mesa, CA store - Mission Viejo, CA store - LEGOLAND, CA store (i.e. "The Big Shop") San Diego, CA store Bi-weekly visits to: - Chandler, AZ store - Glendale, AZ store Bi-weekly visits via brother to Downtown Disney store in Orlando, FL; top selling Disney store in the world. I'm not trying to play "who's got a bigger one" with you, but I know what I am talking about. If your coverage net is stronger and more qualified than mine, then by all means- please enlighten me.3 points

My "opinion" of the TH is based on weekly visits to five Southern California B&M shops, and the well-earned relationships I have earned with their staff and GM's. My information is accurate. I can't provide a specific number as, A) I am not psychic and B. I am not employed by TLG. The fact that the TH was a long-term shelf-warmer wasn't news to anyone. Common sense and a basic understanding of supply/demand, and the cost of retail shelf space- make perfect sense for why the TH disappeared when it did. Again- pardon my lack of specific, down to the box numbers for you. I am surprised it's news to a moderator on this site. Thank you for your attempt at discrediting me, and my apologies to you for your epic fail.3 points

Torn on this one. Have seen it assembled, and- just my opinion- a nice build, but compared with other UCS sets I don't feel it is in the upper-class... again, just my opinion. Going against it- there will always be some x-wing version kicking around, one way or another. Unlikely one this "epic", but one available nonetheless. Going for it- Just watch the "Force Awakens" preview and see how significant the X-wing is to all the SW action coming. Surely that will help with this set... but surely it will mean more X-wing iterations to come. More variations = diluted investment. Example: it would be surprising to see another SSD available, in any format. If you love that ship and demand it for your collection, get ready to shell out $1,400+ (just wait). If you love the x-wing- but can't afford the Red-5- you will have more affordable options at a lower price and less piece-count. I am a fan of Batman, and Legos- but I noticed Batman is now fighting a gorilla in the newest Lego set. A gorilla. Point being: Batman is here to stay, from his epic battles with Bane and The Joker, to him riding around in a ridiculous vehicle battling a giant monkey. This makes Batman, as a stand-alone investment, an unappealing one. Diluted, diluted, diluted. It's something to keep in mind with the Red-5. A hell of a set... and certainly deserves a place in an investor's portfolio. But how heavy a hand to play with it is questionable. So, again- I'm torn on this one. Definitely in for a few, but cautiously optimistic on long-term gains relative to other $200+ sets..3 points

Awesome find. You will have fun with this, especially if you let your son help. I buy a few bulk lots once in awhile, and I "hire" my son and daughter to help sort through it and build each set. They know it's all for resale, but as payment, I let them both pick one set to keep. My son is no dummy. The last large lot I purchased he kept the Death Star.3 points

Just a bit of advice, I and many other buyers wouldn't be happy if a minifig was shipped like that. Put it in a bubble mailer.3 points

Ah yes, the Satanist lego devotee. My target customer for these. I plan to package the ToO up with the goat and virgin minifigures to conjure maximum profit.3 points

Since something bizarre happened to the original topic dedicated for the new theme, I am merely making this as a temporary replacement for further discussion until or if the original thread can be restored. Moving along the last bit of news was we have an image for the Mystery Machine and Mystery Mansion sets which I shall attach below. Release date is around August this year.2 points

New to the Lego Investment Community. I have been a seller on Ebay for about 15 years. So I am always looking for new angles. My wife accuses me of being a hoarder and compulsive shopper. At heart I am a flipper and not an investor, although I have hoarded about 400 Monster High Dolls. I probably have a few dozen Lego sets in storage along with my dolls and various other "junk" as my wife calls it. Twenty Fallout 3 Collectors editions are not junk!!! Nor my Wii Mario Allstars!!! We moved to Indonesia a couple of years ago and now live in Jakarta. Although I am now financially secure...I can't stop "hustling" as I call it. Lego has become my latest thing. We have a Lego Store and a few decent toy stores. Pricing on most Lego tends to be 100 percent higher than in the U.S.. But I manage to find some deals...we still have series 1 Mixels which I am hoarding and bought a few ToO for 165.00. And ship online deals to my brother in New Orleans...Man I miss K-mart!!! My wife thanks the members for creating a Lego Fiend.2 points

I would kine it a lot better if it were a shelter and not a shop. I loath the idea of pets being for sale. Shelters are overwhelmed in this country, no one should be selling pets until we stop having to destroy adoptable dogs and cats. I know it's just a toy and that's a bit over the top. I do have several of these. Just think Lego could have presented a great teaching moment for a lot of kids by making it a shelter.2 points

I deleted the other post because I wanted all the Lego for myself. I created the legend of the "Ghost Post" to scare off would be investors, and I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids.2 points

Dead 5 is unavoidably a universal EOL-related label for years to come if this set really is on its way out right now. (typo or not, as has been said) but... Is that really the case? The horde has learned quickly in the months since TH poofed, and acts earlier and more fiercely than ever before. It is going to be easy at some point (maybe now?) to misjudge the signs and create the self-fulfilling "false" shortages we have been discussing in various threads lately. Personally, I have to limit spending for a while, and am not greatly sold on this set beyond owning one for myself, so I'm happy to kick back and watch the chaos. But I would be wary, too, if going in with limited capital... because if you think about the timing (normal holiday shortages, lack of imminent EOL exclusives available since AA blipped out, need for TLG production to catch up in general, Episode VII hype building, UCS TIE coming soon, 9493 no longer available, etc.) there are a LOT of reasons for people with money burning holes in pockets or otherwise to focus on this set when normally (past 2 years) they would ignore it. If I were Lego, I would be watching this phenomenon, rubbing my chin, and holding weekly meetings to discuss the pros and cons of letting exclusives go in and out of stock more often - especially late in their planned life cycle. More Chaos, More Profit...2 points

Also I have tried the Mr. Nice guy approach when it comes to members passing off opinions as fact and obviously it does not work. I'm done with that.2 points

Yes the box does add weight and cost. I stated it costs more above. I disagree it is overkill when it brings back repeat customers and also can bring a higher sale price to the item. Sold 942 polybags and 400 mixels the last 60 days so it does seem to help with buyer confidence on buying them. Didn't say there was a right or wrong way, just the way I do it. As a buyer myself I've seen the quality that polybags are sent to me and if you don't think that leaves an impression in your buyers head than you might want to order some and see what they look like when they get to you and figure if that is something you would want to receive. They don't look they way you sent them most of the time. With little margins on most polys I'd rather ship it right the first time and not have to resend a $10 polybag and wipe out a few sales profit in the process. I know 90%+ probably ship them in mailers and will continue to do so. Was just throwing some reasons in there why it can help.2 points
-
I make sure my margins are high enough that I can afford to use boxes or bubble mailers. I order in bulk from U-line. Proper packaging is a cost of business. I have recieved and returned crushed items in polybags and have had the seller respond "I've shipped dozens like this and never had a problem." What is a person thinking when they put a fragile box in a poly mailer...that they are making an extra buck or two...that the USPS is responsible to take good care of a poorly packaged item. If I sell something that is boxed...I ship it in a box...with padding. I am past the point of being "greedy" by compromising quality shipping. If i cannot afford to ship it properly...I don't sell it.2 points

I love coming to this site and sifting through hundreds of "it makes perfect sense to..." posts with far too much confidence in them and not nearly enough substance.
