its a lot more work to flip a town hall into something else, hope it retires, flip that, hope it retires, and hope that those appreciate rather than just sitting on a set you know is going to be a top performer over the next 5 years. sometimes making a lot of money is really as boring as doing nothing but waiting. doesn't feed that addictive buzz of hunting chima on clearance, or the unbridled childhood lust of dozens of new boxes of LEGO being delivered or that new box smell. my overall investing/business goal is to do as few transactions for as much money as possible. TH fits in nicely with that plan. there's too big potential for seller's regret with this one when you have to sit back and come up with justifications to yourself why you sold a TH at 500 when they break through the $600, $700, $800 level much quicker than you thought it would. what other set or combo of sets is going to give you this type of return this quickly? TH is the dream investor scenario - a modular retiring with little warning out of order. the party is just getting started.6 points

I always say: A perfect box is no advantage... but a beat-up box is a disadvantage. It is like when you sell your car. When you clean it thoroughly it is a common thing. But when you do not clean it people will complain and have a legit reason to haggle.4 points

False. You want highest expected rate of return among other investments with the same variance and liquidity. If you find a better one you have to consider transaction costs. On the stock market they are 0. With LEGO they are substantial. Also you can't trade with too high volumes of LEGO, both because of handling costs and supply constraints. Finance and investments is not that simple.4 points

I think a lot of people are riding the edge of their ever expanding "budgets" and need things like double VIP to justify expanding it a little further.4 points

My son likes them and has all of series 1-3. He has opened most of them but not all. The other day I told him that he could get $100 if he sold just the red, yellow and black guys. He said "Really? Put them on ebay!" It warmed my QFLL heart. I won't though (until I sell through all of my others first probably) heh heh.3 points

We are in the 3rd week of 2015 and the last labels seen have week 50 for 2014. Not seeing the logic here since we are basically talking about 5 weeks since no new seals. Not saying it isn't going, just doesn't seem like a good indictor in this case.3 points

This is not related to the Birds set, but thank you to all above that expressed concern about our cat. I haven't been back on here since then to post. Unfortunately, we had to put her to sleep last Saturday, so it's been a rough week and a half. Again, I appreciate it, and please give all of your cats, or pets of whatever furry kind, a hug and appreciate them while they're still here.3 points

And the only reason they gave Luke a green lightsaber in ROTJ is because the blue one got lost in the sky backdrop during the battle on Jabba's Sail Barge. If it wasn't for that, it would still be good guys get blue, bad guys get red.2 points

Agreed, but there's a difference between a "dirty" box (excessive wear, punctures/holes, pancaked) and a less than perfect one. I have five THs NIB--I don't usually discuss #s of sets because A ) Someone will always talk about how many more he/she has and B ) I'm not the guy who talks about how many more I have. Ego should have no place in investing, IMHO, but that's a topic for another thread. I'm happy to have landed those THs as I came in late (started investing in September, 2014) and just happened to take Mr. Mack's advice. A few have some minor box dents and creases, but do I care? Heck no. Are the boxes "damaged"? Not really--it's several pounds of bagged plastic bits sliding around in a cardboard box; hard not to have a few minor creases. I'll fully disclose box condition with several pictures when I sell. The one TH, my sixth, that Walmart sent with a sticker on the side and the flaps popped open? That's the one I built for me because I could give two s**ts about box condition. "Mint" means less in LEGO than it does in other collectibles. "NIB" or "factory sealed" means more to me--personally. I think "MISB" is a brass ring you can chase and chase, but someone picky enough will find a reason to nitpick the tiny scratch or rounded corner. I will never use the word "mint" to describe any LEGO box when selling, no matter how pristine. It's just not as useful as "new in box" and sets a seller up for all kinds of OCD buyer trouble down the road. This is just how I do business. YMMV--and your opinion.2 points

If finances allow, I like to buy 2 copies of each new exclusive early on in the production run and then move on to the other sets that are nearing retirement. At least I have the sets and can sleep easy. Is it the most effective use of investment dollars? Maybe not, but it has worked for me.2 points

Set a profit margin you are comfortable with and see if anyone bites. I would keep back a couple but this set is likely to be overshadowed by the UCS versi2 points

I just want to say BC has already been a godsend to me. Just my experience: I've listed a dozen or so items, ranging from $10 - $400. No action yet on the low dollar items, but the highest priced items have sold almost instantly. And with no fees, those are the items I'm happiest to sell. I've pocketed significantly more than I would have on ebay or Amzn, and sold for less than the going rates on those sites, giving the buyers real value. Any BPer who truly wants to move a higher priced item right now is a fool not to list it on BC. Buyers who know the value of your product are there, ready to buy.2 points

Bought one today for 50 euro. Will go back tomorrow to pick up the remaining two. Hopefully they will be still there.2 points

Just purchased an SSD on the site for a very fair price (lower than the eBay normal), which made me happy as I missed out on it and really wanted one for my collection. The whole experience was great (pending only the arrival of the item, of course!). I was able to contact the seller, get additional pictures and even negotiate a bit. Thank you for the site and I will definitely use it again. Once my own stock has valued to set goals I'll probably list there as well.2 points

Yeah LEGO just went nuts to throw out the trash nobody wanted. Seeing a DUPLO set on the first exclusive page is depressive though. At least I know that awesome stuff is coming this year. What I like is that modulars seem to be constantly out of stock now. It signals a high demand for these sets. I don't think people are hoarding PR, it should be true demand. And this means our stashed retired stuff will rise nicely.2 points

I certainly didn't complain about Meijer deals. I don't see how they are any different than Fry's, or Fred Meyer, or any other regional store. Totally appropriate for the DD. I'm quite happy for everyone that got in to the Meijer deal. It's just what happens. I also don't get in on a lot of the Target and Walmart deals, because I live in SoCal, and stuff just doesn't stick around when it goes on sale. Maybe I misread the posts, it seemed like a lot of people were getting in on the deal. I could be totally wrong, and I may end up completely missing the boat on Series 3. I think you're right. Not about people listening to me. But I do think that by the time S3 came around, people were finally taking notice of them. I will continue to point to Jeff Mack for even putting Series 1 on my radar to begin with. I only had a couple of sets, though, when they started disappearing from the shelves. That's when I found some at TRU, did a quick eBay search, and then within days bought out every Mixel in San Diego county. Series 4, in my mind, is the best so far. I love them. I think they look the best of the four series out so far. Series 3 was an improvement over Series 2. Series 2 is my least favorite. The other day, though, my daughter asked me to build her one of the new Series 4 that I had picked up. It was past her bedtime, and she wanted to see it glowing if she woke up in the middle of the night. I've got to admit, I love these little guys. They look awesome. They are fun, quick builds. But they look great. Exotic enough. They almost make it feel like I've created it myself. They are very original. I'm having a hard time not building them myself (e.***., letting the kids build them instead), and I have a hard time not wanting to buy a couple of sets for myself, so we can have individual and combined Mixels hanging around.1 point

That's my thought. I don't know that they will hit $120, like Series 1. I do think they will go above $100, but it will take awhile. Legoland California still has them on the shelves. They just haven't moved very quickly. I'm pretty much skipping Series 3. We talked about it in a different thread yesterday, but there were a lot of Series 3 that were bought by the Meijer crowd at $1.50 or less. It's going to be very easy for those folks to make the profit that I would want at much lower price point than I.1 point

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder! And ugly doesn't stop people from buying. I think somewhere around 80-100 shipped by Christmas is totally reasonable.1 point

This was actually the set that drew me back into Lego. I display it and think it looks great. If I were to list a couple gripes about it, it would be the cockpit that only fits one figure and the hidden cargo chamber that is virtually unusable other than to the tiniest of fingers.1 point

Its hard to believe Lego is telling a few people that the Pet Shop will be out 1-2 more years, end of 2015 it will be out over 4 years,I see the Pet Shop retiring sometime this year and I don't think that the Cinema Palace is done this year, that will make that set a little over 2 years, and its still sells very well.1 point

You're kind of new around here aren't you? Being absolutely sure because you have inside information you choose not to share is almost as bad as stating your opinion/belief as an actual fact when in fact you probably don't know more than the rest us. Why is it frowned upon? Because there are many people who read these forums who aren't quite as informed or perhaps a little on the gullible side and there is no place for misleading people on this forum.1 point
