Gavin's father reached out to me today. They are organizing a fund raiser to help pediatric patients at the local hospital. It will involve a LEGO build event with all sorts of activities for children and families, including Star Wars and Disney characters. Their foundation is called Gavin's Warriors and I am honored to be asked to volunteer. He also shared this picture of Gavin with his minifigure shelf. Helping Gavin was one of the highlights of the year for me in 2014. Thanks again to all my fellow Brickpickers who helped make it happen.13 points

No, it's not sold out worldwide. But, it's not available worldwide either (in my country it seems to only be found on ebay and marketplaces). It's not retiring !4 points

Also remember its a must have for any Cuusoo/Ideas collector. (that would be me) Also I have one put aside for my daughter when she graduates (she is only 5 now) I think the collectibility of this set has many facets that will keep it popular IMHO3 points

I'm building 8039 Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser with my son tonight. It was his big gift for his 7th birthday. We built the Chima Sir Fanger's Sabre-Tooth Walker last night.2 points

I didn't think 10179 needed any explanation. Or at least it shouldn't on this website;)2 points

Well here's a real kick in the bricks. Earlier it was reported the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has stated that The Lego Movie is not considered one of the five best animated films for 2014. Instead the film gets nominated for an Oscar in Best Original Song with of course "Everything Is Awesome". The five animated films which did make the list are The Boxtrolls, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Big Hero 6, Song of the Sea, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya. I will admit those are all good although I haven't seen the last three yet. Actually I didn't even know Song of the Sea and Princess Kaguya were out yet. Still by comparison, I don't quite see how The Lego Movie wasn't up to snuff with the likes of Big Hero 6 for example. Ah well, not like I need some institution to tell me how awesome The Lego Movie is. And for those who didn't 'get' The Lego Movie, well, sucks to be you.2 points

Sold the last 3 of my Kingdoms Chess sets for $130 each. The end of an era. It is going to be weird not to have any chess set in my inventory.2 points

It's unfortunate, but really - no on-line retail presence what were they thinking?2 points

Its still available at Retail cost (& below) in every barnes and noble within 100 miles of me. Sold out is not retired, hold this type of post for a speculation thread, not the official retirement thread. I agree its going soon, but not retired till its retired.2 points

Pass. Put that money towards something else. I have four of these bought at $13.46 each when Amazon ran a crazy sale over a year ago. I've had them listed on eBay at $25 for a looonnggg time and haven't sold one yet. The only way I'll be able to move them is if I bundle them with other city sets.2 points

I'm, sorry my neighbors to the north. We just recently lost the two Kmarts that I went to around here - I have other options but losing a store sucks. Seeing empty buildings sucks, losing jobs sucks. There is just no other way around it. - It sucks.1 point

It appears 2nd release is completed and no further releases anticipated (by LEGO Shop at Home at least). With the new set hitting 10k for review already within 45 days, there's clearly a demand for this and could itself become a series of vignettes. Despite the flood Sales Rank continues and still commands price premium. That's more than one can expect post holidays. If I see these in the wild, would still get them....and sitting on a small mountain already.1 point

I guess there goes my plans on moving to Canada. My wife needs a Target to survive.1 point

Cool. Never saw a French version before. On a side note, the kid's robot in MASK might be JJ Abram's inspiration for the infamous droid on a ball in SW VII1 point

Visited 3 Target stores yesterday and today, and finally found the meaning of that mysterious grey dot on the price tag: a gentleman working in Target told me that means "this thing is out of stock and will not be re-stock".1 point

Writing was on the wall for a long time with Target but I'm disappointed they couldn't make it work. No real good alternatives out there for me because I hate Walmart with a passion and Sears is just MEH. Oh Well.1 point

$10 off on a $30 set ? It's sweet. The taller version is sweet too, but the window/door is too big IMO It would have been better to hide the top and bottom window of this door, to have just a skylight. TOK: Next step: build this MOC and crush it with your bare hands ^^1 point

If you are a cold hearted investor: keep it sealed. If you are a fan of lego and love building: open it and enjoy the build. Rather sooner than later cause it will get harder to open it every day that passes.1 point

HH getting a spike in sales and value before halloween is 100% true in the US. In Europe it is a different ball game. Here the HH is wanted all year around. TH will beat HH due to being more scarce at the moment. After a couple of years I guess HH will join TH again up in the high.1 point

I don't think your crazy because I think you should build it1 point

Built this set last week and agree that it's very nice. We have it displayed on our mantle. I hope there's another version with some new birds coming soon. For everyone with cats please give them a big hug when you get home today. We just learned today our youngest (<2 yrs old) has FIP and may only have a week to live. We had no idea this was coming other than that she wasn't her usual self the last few weeks until I took her into the vet today. It puts Lego investing and other issues much into perspective.1 point

This isn't a big thing but THANKS for having the 'track package' link redirect to the carrier website instead of creating your own internal system like Amazon. I dislike that Amazon, and now eBay, only show you part of the shipping information.1 point

I'd be careful with these going forward. I know this is the hot item around here recently, but as previously mentioned, I'd be willing to bet these behave like the CMF series with Series 1 being worth a lot, then future series' becoming worth less and less as more and more people start hoarding them and more are produced. Not to mention that as soon as some of the rare parts become readily available from other sources, people will be able to BrickLink these guys for cheap.1 point
