Once upon a time, I was little more than a lowly peon among the ranks of fierce grunts, tenacious axe-throwers, and marauding raiders. Until one day, I grew weary realizing the path of destruction my clan was heading towards under the rule of the then reigning king who had let himself turn into a crooked vile disgusting twisted shadow of his former honor therefore I challenged him for all rights to the throne and the welfare of our kin. With a degree of cunning and skill, I kicked his unroyal ass mercilessly, took the crown, and strived to bring back the glory once lost. The former king's grave is known to all as a reminder of what a person becomes when never-ending greed consumes thy very being. "For what profit to a man is it to gain the whole world yet lose his very soul?" Anywho, I playtest video games for a living. Well mainly cheap bargain bin pc ones but still whatever. It's a living aside from all the usual 'rulery'.2 points

Even a moderator was confused once and locked a bunch of threads. The confusion probably comes from the fact that the "Latest Posts" and "Recent Threads" lists don't show the forum where stuff is being posted.2 points

The store calenders will usually advertise double VIP points, and they usually come out two months ahead of time.2 points

I hope I don't offend, but I want to echo something I saw posted earlier: If we want BC to be a success, we need to get items for sale with attractive pricing. Just browsing the listings, it seems 4 out of 5 items I look at could be bought a lot cheaper on ebay. Why would I pay that price on an new site with no history, if I could get it for less on ebay? I've put up a half dozen items or so, and I've tried to be as aggressive as I could with my pricing... maybe even taking a little less profit than I could've gotten on ebay. Lots of folks have commented on what a great thing the Mack's have done for us with Brickpicker, and how we'd be glad to pay a reasonable subscription fee for this site. Well, here's your chance... and not just for the Macks, but for yourself. If we can get some aggressive offers on there and get some buzz going about this site, it could mean good things for all of us.2 points

But the instructions tell me to put it on. Are you sure I can just leave it off. I feel kind of dirty doing that.2 points

Just a small piece of advice to make your experience a bit more enjoyable here, when you make it sound like you are all knowing and have it all figured out you won't fit in too well. Opinions are always welcome but the "I know this for sure" angle doesn't sit well with almost all members here who understand that it's impossible to predict what will happen in the future. Just a bit of friendly advice you can take it or leave it.2 points

Sorry that the Classifieds were down for a bit, but it was all for good reason. I am happy to report that the Paypal issues has been fixed and that the Seller Protection information is working and enabled. There are words I would like to use right now, but it may offend some people on the forum so I will keep it to myself or share with Ed later. Now lets get on will some sales and transactions. Next up, finish the vendor currency for those shops not in the US.2 points

Is it too soon to start speculating about Series 14 minifigures? ....It's never too early to speculate about upcoming Lego releases. I normally wouldn't care but this actually sounds awesome. How about an entire Series devoted to one theme...like Monsters. http://www.thebrickfan.com/lego-collectible-minifigures-series-14-71010-rumors/ Let's assume this is true... What are some Monsters you would like to see? -New Witch -Ghosts -Vampire -Werewolf -Mummy -Zombie -Scarecrow -Europeans -Zombie -Zombie -Zombie -Freddy (Not Kruger but the old BP member) (What ever happened to that guy anyways?) What am I forgetting? What are some other minifigure "Themes" you think would work for a series.... - Space men - Aliens - PickleBoy is various poses - Cowboys & Indians - Pirates1 point

Depends on your risk tolerance. I used to live in Brazil, and I would not want to ship a Lego there. If the item is valued over $50, there is likely to be 100% duty imposed in customs. Who's going to take care of that? Now maybe using ebay's global shipping program takes care of that, but still. Also... just sending small gifts back to family and friends there... some items can be tied up in between customs and the post office for months (like 3 or 6 months). I also recall recently seeing something on ebay about "making it safer to send your items to Brazil..." ... well maybe they have, but that wording alone sends up a red flag for me. I say, "Why?... Isn't there someone in the US that might want to buy your item?"1 point

Depending on the size and price of the item, I have previously sold a set of Red Series 1 Mixels to Brazil and never had a problem.1 point

The store calendar. The Brick Fan usually posts them early, that's the Lego news site I follow. Here's January and here's February. No double points being advertised for the next two months.1 point

LEGO investment is no different at all from other forms of investment. All of them contain some risks. Else there wouldn't be profits.1 point

Lets all face it Lego reinvesting is a calculated gamble, but hey its fun as hell!1 point

I don't agree at all. My kids (8, 6 and 3) love it all, OT, prequels, CW, and now Rebels. They have Lego sets that run the gamut. The new stuff builds on the old, not replaces it. My 8 year old received the 7965 from Santa last Christmas, just what he wanted. I have collected OT Star Wars since 1991, and since about 1993 it has always been in demand.1 point

Meijer crew prices: Ariel Amazing Treasure 7.87 each Merida's HIghland Adventures 11.24 each I cleaned out my store of Ariels, left some Merida behind but got 5. Probably should have got them all but Meijer took all my money and something had to stay on the shelf.1 point

Regarding pricing - It isn't the sellers who price items too high that hurts the market, it's the ones who price them too low.1 point

You can almost completely control how fast it sells via how you list it. If listed as a 3-day auction with free shipping, a $1 starting bid, and no reserve, then you are practically guaranteed it will sell in three days. The only reasons I could see it not selling are either a buyer flaking out or a site outage. If you are listing as BIN it is harder to predict. As long as you are logged in using a generally positive feedback eBay account, and you have the absolute lowest BIN price (including shipping) on eBay, I would expect an aggressively priced 7965 to sell within a day (it looks like about 10 sets per day are currently selling). If you aren't the lowest price BIN (including shipping) then I wouldn't expect it to sell at all, unless you are logged into eBay using a high reputation account with an established clientele who are wiling to pay a premium for purchasing from that account.1 point

Thanks, I'll see what this guy wants to do. I'm going to give it until Sunday and see if he replies.1 point

Part out value is $620. Unless you are already setup for parting out (bins, storage, organizational system, BL store) it'd be nuts to go that route with 3k pieces per. I like your line of thought as far as diversifying sales by parting out a fraction of your inventory. Just a mtn of work without much reward to do so in this particular instance.1 point

When people talk about the past disney failures they were just bad sets. No one cares about Lone Ranger. No one cared about POTC except the ships. No one cares about Princess. That has nothing to do with a disney stamp and more to do with bad sets of bad lines. I bet you John Carter sets would fail and Tron would be huge and no one would give two shits about a disney stamp. All in my humble opinion of course1 point

That is so funny because it is plain wrong on practically almost every account. A young padawan you must be.1 point

I think TOK's thoughts are spot on regarding the ideas for expanding this set. A couple of my observations are it seems like they used a lot of window pieces to fill wall area and I was surprised at how few actual bricks are used - when building I thought to myself with some more bricks this could be made into a nice larger building. Most of the non window wall pieces are either 1x2 or 1x2 bricks built into columns around them. I have included a couple more pictures below for you to see in detail. To me when I compare this to the Bike Shop many of the walls are also built from 1x2 and 2x2 bricks but to me appears "fuller" and more substantial. I also feel like roof section could be much improved with more pieces to work with. At the very least I could image buying 2 of the toy and grocery shop and making a fuller sized building that would fit right along with the bike shop and cafe set - which is what I might do.1 point

The CS at lego does not know more than us up until the moment the set is almost sold out and stock is drying up. I think this set will retire soon but stock levels are still healthy. At least at S&****. In shops it completely disappeared. My 0.021 point

Wanted to delay it but I decided that I want that Valentine's day set. So I added a Pet Shop to get free shipping.1 point

Too right! Although the golden age of investing in Lego already passed..still the returns it gives is better than any bank around the world. Plus I make my money working for me instead of giving them to the greedy bankers and making them even more rich off my back... The two worst things ever happened to this Planet are Banks & Religion!1 point

Got this baby built yesterday. It's a pretty simple build with nothing really challenging, but there are some unique ways they got it together and have it hold up. The wings seems a little flimsy, but the rest of the build is extremely rugged. I can hold it from the bottom lip and shake it and nothing happens. Once you do get it displayed the set is super boss. It's definitely a lot bigger than I could have anticipated. This is about half way through the build. Just a couple more bags in Again another couple bags in Another bag or two. Finally starting to really look like what is supposed to Finally completed. Big mother. Secret weapons pulled out to go pew pew pew. (Technical terms) Cockpit view. Backside view. Total badassery. And the sticker. Mine had the spelling error as well. 'Tracor' Also a couple of side notes. The instruction booklet also had the Tracor error when you get to the step of applying the sticker. And I absolutely love the detail of Boba Fett. The arm and leg printings really make him pop. One last thing. I remember first hearing about this set coming out and I was totally bummed. I didn't want the Slave 1. I was thinking they could have done something more badass, but we got this. When I first saw a couple of pictures and the box art, I still was not completely sold on it. As time went on it started to grown on me. Then I went out and bought it, and holy crapola, I am not disappointed in any way shape or form. I think it's just as impressive as the Imperial Shuttle, and 10179 MF on display. Just in your face awesomeness. Please people, if you are a builder/displayer, absolutely must buy.1 point

If the buy in is right, this set should do well after eol. It's only been out a little over a year though, do I'd be surprised if it retired any time soon. A lot of little girls like to "play school", and this set lets them do that. My seven year old daughter has this set, and plays with it all the time. Heck, even my eight year old son plays with it too, but he usually just attacks it with his AT-AT.1 point

No Lego set is worth a marriage. Sell a few of your retired sets just to show that you can then take your wife out to dinner.1 point
