Went and picked up my built once 1st Edition 10179 today. So stoked. I kind of misled my lady on what I was doing. There is no way to sneak this one by her. I'll have to upgrade her Christmas present I guess. On another non Lego note my three Mattel Batmobiles arrived today as I was away. They're bigger than I thought. Very nice! Now after the Falcon, it's time to get new place that's big enough to display EVERYTHING. muahahaha!!!!!!!!6 points

Don't listen to the hipster critics on the new hobbit movie, it r0x0rs b0x0rs. They found the "multiple storylines" confusing. I would image they also find tic-tac-toe a strategic quagmire, as the movie only had 2 major locations: lake town and the mountain. Almost no unnecessary dialog and loose ends were tied. Did a nice job foreshadowing what was coming in LotR. I loved the cameo of a LotR protagonist in his good form during the witch king battle. I couldn't turn off the lego investor as I watched. All I kept saying was "YES YES YES". May be too little too late, but hopefully the older sets get a nice bump from the closing of the series. I for one can't wait to finish my collection now and will enjoy a LotR / Hobbit marathon during Christmas break3 points

Does your gut hate money? I don't really get all the funhouse hate and the knee jerk reaction to a rumor about a new "Jokerland" set. The funhouse was available almost this entire year at TRU markup. Despite that, it is selling for $80 on Amazon right now. That's pretty good for a $40 MSRP set that many folks were able to get for $30 or get it with some freebies. Effectively, its only been retired for a few months given the TRU availability. But hey, if people want to rush and dump now based on a set we haven't even seen then that's their choice. Maybe people are just being impatient for having to hold the set for so long? That is a risk that is taken when purchasing TRU exclusives. On the flip side, people were being criticized for "dumping" their Quinjets. Which is a set that has performed below most expectations post retirement, been retired longer than the funhouse (or to put it another way, been gone from primary retail channels longer than the funhouse) and we have actually seen official pics of what the remake is gonna look like which is coming out in a few months. What if the new jokerland sets actually pairs with the funhouse?2 points

There are so many great options Lego could have made with the LOTR series. Unfortunately like others have said in the past, it seems like they took sets from a theme that many adults would be interested in, and made sets geared towards kids who aren't interested in it. This resulted in many of the sets being disliked by both groups. I'm happy for what they did as I've been waiting for LOTR legos for the past 10 years, but it is sad that this was their one opportunity and they left so much left on the table. :/2 points

Mixels Series 3 are updated Unexpected Gathering and Jabba's Sail barge are accurate for month ending November 30, 2014. Again, I won't have full December data available to me until around Jan 5-7th at the earliest.1 point

Funny - I also bought a TB last night on ebay - used, "close to complete". Pics look good so I'll see.1 point

Well, Thinkgeek had them up until a week or so ago and you could have used the 25% off coupon. Other than that, wait for a TRU coupon and stack Thursday and gift card discounts. I think you need to keep a list of sets you want, buy those first, and then buy Tumblers and R2's.1 point

Yes and no. Boxing day is really to clear out old electronics and selling 2-3 loss leaders to get you to into the store to buy newer items. I go out for 1-2 items every year that are a little under the radar and make 100+% the following winter but across the board, the deals are not very good. Ex Astris, Scientia.1 point

Report REGARDLESS of whether you hit the 20K and they report. Don't mess with the IRS. They are the only bill collector who can knock your door down and take your stuff WITHOUT going to court first. They are the only bill collector who can put you in jail. PayPal's reporting requirement has nothing to do with your reporting requirement.1 point

Wal-Marts around here are much more decimated than I recall the past couple years, so if they clearance after Christmas it will go fast and shelves will be bare and ready for new product. I'm concerned enough that I bought some extra City: Tow Trucks and Logging Trucks from Toysrus.com today, just so I'll have them. Remember the times with there was large Star Wars sets, Black Pearls, and Dino Headquarters left over after the Christmas season?1 point

I hate you all. At that price, I would be buying them to put away. Other than ToO and Helm's Deep, I have no interest in any of the Hobbit/LotR sets. I want Lonely Mountain because I want that dang dragon. He's just too awesome. I'm thinking Halloween Town, Vampyre Castle, dragon drapped over it.1 point

North Korea finds the Lego Pet Shop offensive. Claims the build instructions are too similar to the Parisian Restaurant. Demands retirement. Hackers release TLG emails exposing contempt over 21110 supporters. TLG capitulates and pulls 10218 claiming they had no choice. In other news, North Korea spikes the ebay price of 10226 by buying hundreds of the sets to create an Air Force capable of a Japanese invasion. Later, the head of the North Korean's Ministry of Auction Site Acquisitions was executed for incompetence. The ministry later flooded the market with listings of 10226 while acquiring any 10221 they could find under $800.1 point

3 years ago the Canadian/US dollar was very different than now. At that time $1 US was $0.90 Canadian. In the fall of 2011 TLG had double VIP and free shipping. I took the opportunity to take some investment money and buy some sets I thought would go up in value and return more than my 3% GICs were getting me. I placed several orders, and used the VIP points I got to buy more investment sets. I bought a lot of sets that have mostly all sold, but the best return for me was the 7 Emerald Night sets I bought. After everything was accounted for, each one cost $75 Canadian. I sold the first one for $150 locally within the first 6 months. Each one I have sold for between $50-$70 over the previous one. I recently sold my 5th one for $400. I plan to sell set 6 for $475 and set 7 for $550. If you do the math, all of the 7 sets were paid for in full by set # 3 including some profit leftover passed on to other sets. Sets 4-7 are 100% profit. I also bought Maersk train sets, and even though I didn't do quite so well as I did with EN (I was less patient), I still more than doubled my money. What's my latest large quantity investment? Horizon Express! Stay tuned... Locutis Resistance is futile.1 point

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this new Millennium Falcon play set that people are supposing is planned. Isn't 7965 a play set? You can open it up and recreate scenes from the movies. Wouldn't a $400 Falcon play set be extremely large in layout? Where would kids play with it at? The kitchen table? A large all-in-one Lego built play set would probably be somewhat fragile so moving it around would be problematic. Also unlike the Death Star there are very few scenes that would require a giant play set. Just doesn't make sense to me. The reason the Death Star is still around is because it's a ingenious design that holds up well and would be difficult to top with something else.1 point

Yeah I can read. I can read your post every single day whining about the mistake Lego made. That no one else seems to have seen or care about if they did. Get over it. And yes I do have a problem: YOU1 point

Don't worry the DS is on its last Leg and the ones that don't have any or just a few well we will see them on the Panic Buying wagon, just like the other Exclusives that retired in the last few months, so if you don't have any you bet start getting a few or it will be another set you regreted not getting and this could be the last $400 set that we be retiring . "SO GET THOSE DS" It will be a big money maker. Ed1 point

I was just going to come ask about this set. I saw it at the store in the MOA a few weeks back and thought it would be really neat, but $200 or whatever it is makes it definitely not in our price range. (Especially with our kids being so young, I don't think they'd appreciate it). Does the Lego store ever do sales on their items? Or can I pretty much expect the price to stay at what it is? How big is the set (and how long does it take to put together)?1 point
