This will go well with the release of the Detective's Office I think. Not smart having those cookies lay about though.3 points

Interesting experience today via CL. A good one actually. Very nice guy, met me at a Mickey D's and I sold him a SC. The interesting part was he mentioned brickpicker during the transaction. I replied with "oh I guess you know what kind of scumbag I am then" heh heh. Had a good laugh, he doesn't resent lego investors though instead seemed genuinely interested.3 points

Sales are winding down finally...outbound stack (near) is gradually getting smaller than inbound (far)...inbound today is a DS, some Cargo Terminals, Sail Barges and other small misc. (76000, etc)3 points

Some of you guys are out of your minds. Yes, anything can happen when it comes to Lego retirements but just work with the data you have staring you in the face: One insignificant retailer says it's backordered, everywhere else is sold out with no sign of a return. I interpreted Ed Mack's post as "You're all insane and won't believe a set is dead until its bloated corpse is lying in front of you and its too late".2 points

Too late, I've already returned all mine so I can rebuy with double points and Winter Soldier polybag.2 points

How can they be upset? They sold out of tons of stuff, and when there nothing left, no promos, we still go back and buy the scraps for an EXTRA 5% Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Brickpicker mobile app2 points

I bought a 100% complete Holiday Train 10173 with manual and box for $300 cash on CL. I was just looking for a deal, looked up insane ebay prices probably due to Holidays of these even in used condition. .2 points

I'm an Atlanta native. Born and raised in Alpharetta. No beach there so now I'm in Jacksonville, FL. Entire family is still there in Alpharetta and Sandy Springs though so I visit quite often. Welcome to the site!2 points

They're not, at least not by eBay. You can manually cancel their bids as they come in, but should one sneak through at the last moment, eBay will issue you a defect if you cancel the transaction after the auction ends. Too many defects, no more eBay selling account. And, for those who are using the far more lucrative method of fixed price instead of auction, there is no bid cancellation or accepted cancellation for the non-supported requirement of 0-4 feedback. In being penny "wise" in protecting yourself from the supposed increase in risk of zero feedback buyers (a risk that I have not personally seen in 17 years of selling on eBay), you are perhaps being pound foolish by leaving money on the table by running auctions versus fixed price listings. I would not recommend fooling around in an eBay gray area that's more likely to lead to trouble than avoid it. I also wouldn't recommend auctions over fixed price listings except in very specific cases (a very rare and very desirable item that will surely attract a lot of buyers, or a very flavor-of-the-month very rare item -- new style iPad, hottest toy this Christmas that's out of stock everywhere, etc.)2 points

Emotionally, I have that problem with Super Heroes sets. I've never been into the comics they're based on, so if I just buy based on my own interests I'd never touch 'em. But you've got to consider past performance. Folks love Batman. I mean, even Wyldstyle fell for him.2 points

Hello all, I've seen a couple of posts from people from Atlanta so I know there's some of us here! I've been a Lego fan since I received set 6054 when I was 5 years old. I've owned quite a bit of sets over the years. They were mostly Forestmen, Exploriens, Ice Planet 2002 (6879 is one of my favorite small sets ever), Castle sets around that time (6081 & 6082), and random others. Once I turned 15 I stopped caring about them, at 18 I moved out of the house, and at age 20 my parents gave (GAVE, not SOLD) away every single one of my sets and parts to one of their friend's kid without me knowing it. It was their house though, and they had purchased those for me, but it made me sad nonetheless! Fast forward another ten years from that black day - I have some young'ns around the house and one is starting to get to the age of Lego. I slowly started building his collection with some Junior Lego (straight up skipped over Duplo) as he isn't even of the age to play with those but he loves to play with the minifigures and build towers out of the blocks. I am a collector and investor (and accountant by profession). I've invested/collected in quite a few things including rare coins, bullion, comic books, sports memorabilia and other items. I am going to add Lego to this list as well. Just made my first purchase thanks to someone on this board giving me the heads up on Horizon Express 10233 in stock at Target - nabbed three of them before it went poof! They were delivered yesterday morning and it brought back all those feelings I used to have playing Lego. You all have a great community here and I look forward to contributing to the betterment of it.1 point

Best to ignore it, let buyers waste their time "doing their homework". They will appreciate the service you supply even more.1 point

And that's no offense to exciter, he's got some darn good one liners!!1 point

It would be hard for me to believe that TLG is hurting. The investors alone have bought many more sets nowadays than in the past, so it is hard to believe sales figure is low.1 point

White coats to bind me, out of control I live alone inside my mind World of confusion, air filled with noise Who says that my life's such a crime? Trapped, in this nightmare I wish I'd wake As my whole life begins to shake Four walls, surround me An empty gaze I can't find my way out of this maze 'Cause I don't care Fall in, fall out Gone without a doubt, help me I can't take the blame They don't feel the shame It's a madhouse Or so they claim It's a madhouse Oh, am I insane? My fears behind me, what can I do My dreams haunt my sleep at night Oh no, won't learn their lesson, white fills my eyes And only then they see the light1 point

An alternative theory - Things are great. LEGO Shop at Home told me when I said it is like a mass discontinuation of almost everything that "well there is a ton of great new product coming out next year". Could it be they have almost emptied their warehouse of tons of old things like the exclusives and they are doing this because there is a bunch more middle sized & smaller sets they want to get rid of because they really are doing an Extinction Level Event on their old product lines. This goes with Mos Eisley's thoughts and I typed them before reading his post but had not posted mine yet.1 point
-
They don't appear to be having a problem moving exclusives so I would say that policy has no impact on sales. What they aren't selling through is all the regular stuff that you can still get at a discount. But the reason they aren't selling through their own supply is because the majority of sets are still available on every other retailer's shelves. I'm pretty sure their sales are up so significantly this year over last that regardless of what happens the rest of the year, they will still have an increase. I expect more sales, including LEGO stores, after Christmas and early next year to get rid of all the old stuff. They have clearly produced more of mostly everything this year, so just because it isn't all gone, doesn't mean they haven't sold the hell out of what they have been producing.1 point

Not me. Means I can grab more. These are investments, not quick flips. If this comes back again, and you've already got some, then consider yourself blessed with a chance to grab more.1 point

Just to reinforce that they are a good investment, many of us SH fans are nuts. Batman's fan base is probably the most rabid of all. Arkham is one of the most important places in the Batman universe. The best Batman video game series ever is based on Arkham. This set will do well. If I got into LEGO a year from now and saw that this set was available at one point but was now retired, I would drop 2x MSRP in a heartbeat.1 point

I have kicked around that idea of a restocking fee, but just like having quick & easy returns set up (which I have tried) - it tends to backfire. The quick & easy is definitely a defect magnet, as it is too easy to claim something was wrong and avoid return shipping costs - just by clicking a button (without the need to contact the buyer to explain). I believe that restocking charges would only make buyers who experience "buyers remorse" more likely to feel justified in abusing the system. By the way, I never have a problem with accepting a return, or canceling an order. It will sell again (generally it sells for more) - plus I like to have as much inventory as I can in my store.1 point

Yes, this is not a punishment for people. This has been implemented for months, but there was an incident in which a member was confused, so I wanted to bring attention to it so that future new members will understand why their posts don't immediately show up. By doing this, it has really helped in cleaning up the forum of spam and garbage.1 point

Well my delayed Minecraft order came in, just in time for TRU ebay to have everything in stock. I thought what the heck may as well give it a try, and listed a combo Cave and Farm for $100. Sold it a few hours later to one of those "guest" check out accounts, and they were super close so shipping was cheap. Crossing fingers on no returns.1 point

no doubt...I would think the vast majority would choose the newer sets...however looking at Amazon prices and the fact that they're nearly double msrp tells me there's interest with exception to the end because it's more readily available.1 point

Yeah always make sure they scan. If not they can say you never dropped it off or gave it to them. They pulled that 1 time last year on our daily pickup during Xmas. The postmaster told my daily driver not to scan as they got to the warehouse after 7 and she didn't want to get in trouble for not getting the mail on the truck that left the hub already. Had over 250 going out. I told my driver that was BS and to give me her number. He wound up scanning them for me when he got back and called me to let me know (scanned them at 9:15 at night). I still called her the next day and told her anyone who picks up will be scanning my packages.1 point

Awesome I'm very familiar with that area. It's great that you don't have to deal with it! I live over near Woodstock. I commute to Atlanta every day unfortunately.1 point

They're from the expanded universe. They were once cannon, being from the Force Unleashed games. But of course Disney, being the good old company they are, made that series non-canon. *sigh* They were under the control of the Shadow Guards (which as there are more Troopers than Guards really should've had 3 Shadow Troops and 1 Shadow Guard) and had stronger armor than the normal Storm Trooper. They were trained to fight against Galen Marek. And here's the interesting bit, their armor is not a black, more of a dark metalic gray. So, these Shadow Troopers are DEFINITELY based upon the Force Unleashed and not the other Shadow Troopers used by Blackhole. Which had black armor. The LEGO Group really did their research this time around.1 point

Bought a Ferris Wheel last week from ebay. It was listed for $20 + $8 shipping. I didn't expect much out of this deal. The package arrived today and surprisingly it includes the original box, 3 manuals, motor, and many pieces. I haven't verified the completeness yet but it looks pretty promising. Oh well, for the price I paid, I am extremely happy.1 point

Sooooo I had the idea to list my Creative Towers on Craigslist. Had probably 5 replies of "Since these were $30 at Walmart I think $35-$40 is a steal for you." Man come on. Who calls and tells someone what is fair based off of what they were at a store. I went out on Thanksgiving and almost got mauled by the hoards of people then had to wait to checkout and you think I held this for you at $5 extra. Insane.1 point
