  4. Crazy time of year! So weird when a big reseller like Toywiz.com buys out your whole stock of something in an instant. They're either drop shipping or beefing up their inventory.

  5. Got up early with the kids...groggily checking the computer as the coffee was brewing, trying to find a different auction I had previously seen. Saw this baby and clicked Buy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291310950709 Sealed 3450 Statue of Liberty for $1050! Later received legit emails and pictures. Thanks for waking me up kids!

  8. Just sold another 3 calendars in the space of an hour off Criagslist. They're all gone. I've had more sales from there today than I usually have in a month. And I didn't even change my ads. I got a very lovely email from one mom who had already bought Friends calendars for her girls and then had a very upset little boy without a calendar for himself. Apparently I "saved Christmas". I'm having an Ebenezer Scrooge Christmas morning moment here.

  9. Amazon is down to 11 left...then it will just be Shop at Home with any stock...at least until Amazon keeps everyone F5'ing 6 mos from now with 8 "new finds" at a time.

  10. What I do with a zero feedback buyer is send them a message thanking them for their purchase, telling them that I can see they are new to Ebay and offering to answer any questions they may have prior to shipment. I have almost no problems with zero feedback buyers. I had way more problems with Russians opening chargebacks and the French customs people stealing items out of my boxes and delivering them, then from zero feedback. If it's a big dollar item and they won't message you back, then I'd likely cancel the sale. Hope this helps.

  14. buy, buy, buy, buy, buy, then HOLD. This set is insanely cool. We rarely build large sets but could not resist this one. I categorize it as a Town-Hall type investment... buy, sit, hold. Long-term appeal for a long-time audience of LOTR fans. In the back of our attic there is a "special" place, with boxes of gifts/items we don't like/want but feel too guilty to get rid of them. An inherited Velvet Elvis from a deceased uncle, along with his glazed Dale Earnhart plate collection... a box of horrible hand-made sweaters from Aunt Ethel which are nothing shy of atrocious but we don't have the heart to get rid of, etc., etc., etc. We are planting a few TH's and ToO's next to THAT inventory. Distant... and not to be visited for a very long time. Those familiar with Tolkien's work understand the intrinsic value of the ToO and how truly iconic this set is. For those unfamiliar with his work, trust your fellow investors who are familiar with its appeal. You do not need to have any interest in what this set represents; you can research it thoroughly- on this very thread- and understand it has the potential to make you a lot of money. Tolkien and the fantasy genre may mean nothing to you, which is certainly okay, but if making money is- I would start at page one of this topic and begin reading. This should be ranked very, very high on any investor's radar based on what is currently available, what is near retiring, and what will offer long-term growth and demand.

  18. Of all the Lego pieces that suck to step on, I think those wheels suck the most. If the wheel is laying flat on the ground the metal post sticks up in the air like a thumb-tack. Once I basically had one of those suckers sink into my heel up to the hilt. I still cringe thinking about it.

  29. Lego LEGO Shop at Home lets you backorder this for December 30th delivery, which i have. I wonder if this is great timing for the new Hobbit film to come out and this be on backorder if there will be any short term rise in price and flip capability while backordering more to replace those you have? Hmmm

  30. Used sets are a lot of work and corner cutting will cost you. Taking it apart is essential for dealing in used sets. Then wash with warm warm soapy water if it's not too bad; if it's really bad and smells then use white vinegar and water. It works amazing, I too, the smokiest nastiest bricks and turned them into beautiful little money makers using this technique. I have rebuilt every used set I have sold but 1. That 1 took 4x as long to sell. It's really easy to sort by color as you take it apart and buyers usually will leave a + for sorting by color.

  31. 1. Take apart 2. Wash & dry 3. Rebuild (bricklink any missing pieces) 4. Photograph 5. Disassemble and place in zip locks by floor (photograph in zip locks too so your buyer knows what to expect) 6. List on ebay for $1,000,000 (or going BIN) 7. Ship once it sells 8. Have a cold one 9. No one ever said this would be easy.

  33. 2 freebies for 1 set? Anytime! And since now they explicitly tell you that the Flower Cart is for the Detective Office, it will be a gold mine Ladies and Gentlemen. I can see it hitting $40+ thanks to modular completionists. A polybag is part of the modular theme trolllolloolloolo

  35. From the new STAR WARS trailer, looks like R2 is the #2 Droid anyway. Now with all the bad pieces and missing bags, this set might be lucky to hit $250 after it retires. Time to move on people. I hear they are retiring the CITY Fire Station is retiring. That will be the better investment.

  36. Let the other people panic. The madness has just begun. It will blow you away at how fast sellers start dropping like flies over the next few days. Should be an easy $75-$80 to those patient enough, which even if sourced at MSRP, is a $20-$25/unit profit at FBA.

  37. And this is why we need a thread to post names. I don't get why we can't. We can post all we want about stores. We should look out for each other on both ends buying and selling. This sucks for you man. Keep us posted.

  38. I had a best offer of $15 for a 21113 (The Cave) this morning... they're going for close to $40 and MSRP is $19.99. Low balling buyers on eBay are not my charity of choice.

  39. Sold Spongebob Squarepants The Flying Dutchman 3817 for $30. Bought it on AWH for $4 one day. It just randomly popped up. I figured I couldn't go wrong buying it for $4.

  40. Everything except... taxes, gasoline, ferries, alcohol, cigarettes, books, clothing, toys, dairy: milk, cheese, butter, eggs..., bread or grains, cereal, produce except for locally grown, junk food, organic food, health food, vitamin supplements, antihistamines, ibuprofen/acetaminophen (but we can get extra strength OTC and other goodies), razor blades, shampoo, creams - generally ANY personal effect or toiletry, cosmetics, poultry, shelving, housing (subjective based on percentage of income), restaurant bills, golf by 100+% - actually, most sports. I am sure I missed about 100+ categories, but I got enough of them not counting what employers have to pay as well. And everyone can be assured that as the dollar drops, the purchasing power of Canadians will drop in reference to the American dollar. Ask border towns how much their economies decrease as the Canadian dollar devalues.

  42. I built the Winter Market Village today. Before I built it I was like meh... About midway through the build I bought one on Amazon to begin stocking up. The carousel is much bigger than a I thought and people are going to want this.

  43. Exactly. You insure what you can't afford (in angst or money) to lose, and cover the rest out of your own pocket if there's a problem.

  44. Chin up! We'll get through another round! Slow-moving parents of young children despise faster-moving parents of small children who get there first. Fast-moving parents of small children despise adult collectors who buy the last box on the shelf when they SHOULD leave it "for the children!" Collectors despise the collector/casual investor who buys TWO of a set (shocking! Just shocking! Even if they are the LAST TWO!!) and don't leave any for the purist collector. Collector/Casual Investors despise the Mid-Level Investor/Collector who don't leave any for them. Mid-Level Investor/Collectors despise the High-Level Investor/Reseller (often those counting on Lego for a significant amount or all of their income) who don't leave any for them. It's not "sick" for someone to buy more Lego than another person, or for them not to leave Lego on the shelf for the children, the parents, the purist collectors, the casual investors, the lazy, the stupid, or the weak. We're not talking bottled water in a hurricane here, we're talking a luxury toy. I won't call you whiny if you don't call me sick. Or, better yet, keep calling me sick all you want instead of taking steps to make sure you can compete with me on the fair and level playing field called "Open Hours" at the store selling Lego.
