Hi Guys, Here's a MOD I did on 31026. Most talk about this set is it's size and lack of it. But it's actually quite versatile. I noticed that buying multiple copies of this set is one way to go on expanding it but I decided to work with one set and multiple pick-a-brick sessions. It was a fun process. I like this set and so does my kid, he just has a modular version of it now. Hope you guys like it.7 points

All stated below in one lowly BP'er's opinion, but... The SOP shares this with TH: It is big. It is expensive. It has been a slow seller. And, for retail shelf space and retail storage space prerequisites, this thing is a monster. Also, think about the appeal of the set; it doesn't take much to appreciate the aesthetic beauty of the Tower Bridge, Taj Mahal, etc. Imagine Lego putting out a Seven Wonders of the World set, Roman Colliseum, etc.- with true universal appeal. Big pieces and prices would not stall many from purchasing, were they serious admirers of those relics (of which there are many). The SOP isn't at that level. I would rather have a 4,000+ piece 7-Eleven, Slurpee machine and all, than this set. Last week while at the Pick-a-Brick counter of my local Lego store, I blind-folded myself and grabbed seventeen handfuls of beige and white brick pieces. Using just these blocks, I was able to replicate the Lego SOP with a statistically-significant 93.567% accuracy equivalent (P value of <.05). Should TLG have wished to honor the fine country of Australia, they should have (I have said it before and will say it again), done a UCS Kylie Minogue. But who cares about the aesthetic/artistic appeal of one Lego collector? Would this piece adorn my Lego display section? No. Will it be included in my investment portfolio? Yes. Like the TH, the more elusive the set disappearing, the more lowly the QTY stocked by fellow investors, the more iconic the set (regardless of its artistic monotony from one collector's perspective), the greater the likelihood of post-EOL appreciation. This set will always have an interested audience to some degree. When Harry Potter hype fades, and when no one really cares about Lord Business's lair in many, many years, there will always be some Aussie or tourist who saw Crocodile Dundee Live at the SOP and must have this set. It is an extremely significant historic building. There will be a long-lasting demand for it. And thus, it will be allotted its appropriate space in my Lego investing portfolio.6 points

Hi, I added this biggest modular set to my collection and also this is the biggest building stop motion I ever made. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o946y_SLJ9g5 points

Noticed something interesting and thought i'd share it. Town hall looks like the BIG winner lately over the likes of say, Grand Emporium since Town Hall is $330 on Amazon and GE is just 250, but remember that GE cost 50 less. I ran a quick calculation over 4 of the recently disappeared sets, against a $3200 investment (i corrected for the investment differences after profits) and the Town Hall is actually only 4th best of the bunch. In fact, its only beating out R2D2, and many folks aren't even convinced that one is done. Haunted House is currently king based on Amazon prices as of right now. Cost Qty Spent Price Total Grand Emporium $ 150 21 $ 3,150 $ 250 $ 5,250 +50 = $5,300 Town Hall $ 200 16 $ 3,200 $ 330 $ 5,280 = $5,280 R2D2 $ 180 18 $ 3,240 $ 280 $ 5,040 -40 = $5,000 Haunted House $ 180 18 $ 3,240 $ 365 $ 6,570 -40 = $6,530 SSD $ 400 8 $ 3,200 $ 785 $ 6,280 = $6,2802 points

IMO the only problem of Sydney Opera House is that the Tower Bridge is still available. TB is almost $100 cheaper and has 1300 more pieces. That is what the average consumer thinks.2 points

For non-commingled items, in order to keep your items separate, you get a unique bar code label for each item that you need to put on to completely cover the UPC code. For inbound shipping, the default is to have Amazon automatically allocate your items to their warehouses and they obviously want to spread it across the country so for more than 3 items, they generally will tell you to send them to three separate warehouses (east, west, central). This obviously isn't practical if you just have a few (like 5) items. To counteract this, they do offer the options of Inventory Placement Service where you can send everything to a single warehouse for a per-item fee. The fee depends on size and weight. For standard size, light (< 1lb) items, it is like $0.30 each which is negligible. The big oversize and heavy items can go for $2-3 each. Also, for non-commingled items that use their Inventory Placement Service, Amazon may decide to arbitrarily "transfer" some of your stock to another warehouse themselves. Your items then put in a "will arrive on xxx date" status on the listing but will still be orderable.1 point

They did have the Homemaker range in the 70s to be fair, which were clearly aimed at girls. My sister had some, which I used to raid for all the tile pieces they had lol.1 point

For all we know, it was not technically possible to add a pink pigment to bricks. I think we're missing the point here. This defines for me what LEGO. You are not limited to the design they prescribe for you, if you want to build Cape Caneveral (I did) you can, and with the same bricks, you can build a medieval town or a hospital or whatever springs in your imagination. Kind of weird remark to say you can't build your imagination with yellow, blue, black, white and red bricks.1 point

Funny you say that. I somehow have 2 more than my planned projection number but the last couple of weeks I've been thinking I'm glad I do.1 point

Wow! Looks great! I really like this building, and have two of them set aside for personal building. I'm hoping to add them into the Christmas Village at some point. Realy enjoyed your take on the building. Great job.1 point

Sexiest Lego investment of those going soon. Had one arrive with a very, very, very beat-up box and realized I am actually thrilled about it... I am going to build it for myself. Considering grabbing two Black Gates to complete the ensemble.1 point

This is an unspeakable tragedy. I retract any commentary ever made regarding a UCS KM. Austrailia: you are due for something; anything new/exciting. A Dingo hasn't eaten anything newsworthy in a long, long time.1 point

I must admit I have done this a few times. 1) I hate waiting up to 2 days for the buyer to maybe accept maybe not, especially if it is already a very good price and worried someone might give a better offer of buy it now 2) Sometimes it is because the ebay bucks deal is in play and worried the buyer will take too long to accept and I won't get the 10% back 3) Makes me feel like a real man1 point

Yet Lego is still a thriving company despite the PA debacle. I don't agree that TBBT set is lame but even if it was Lego would be just fine.1 point

Be careful with what you listen to from the minions at eBay customer service. I sold a 75021 gunship for $300 (wanted to orserve the listing so I jacked the price up) it sold, got an email via PayPal that there was a charge back due to fraud. I called eBay to see what was up and the first rep told me to ship the item and they would release my funds after it was confirmed received by the buyer. I was baffled they suggested that seeing how the email clearly stated fraud. To the op, check you PayPal account for the payment. Sometime echecks show paid in eBay but you have to wait for them to clear in PayPal. If a hold then call them and verify its being held or what. I wouldn't ship unless you have a cleared payment.1 point

I do. I also mark it down on my excel sheet with all the necessary tax information. My Brickfolio really consists of 2 things, sets in inventory, and cash to buy them with. I don't use any household money, but money in a savings account that is is strictly for Lego and other fun stuff the wife doesn't approve of. Between those 2, that is where I'm sitting since I don't carry any debt with my purchases.1 point
