  1. Just driving on a freeway with wife checking craigslist. 10 minute detour and $50 later, complete used Pet Shop with box was added to our trunk.

  2. So, statistically, you're saying you're next? It's been nice knowing you. If we don't hear from you again, we know why.

  3. I know that everyone is scared to have people over to their house because of all the horror stories they hear on the news and websites but the chances of this guy being a craigslist killer are basically nil. You only hear the bad stories and no good ones. The latter outnumber the former by millions I'm sure.

  4. And this is why any Modular is a long term winner. Each of these Modulars will reach very high values at some point. As more people buy and enjoy the new ones, they will then pay top dollar for older Modulars to complete their collection. Will it happen overnight? No. But it will happen.

  6. Stopped by a Target just now on a hunch and got the new TMNT sewer ship, the City Cargo Plane each for 50% off, plus they have the Groot and Rocket Raccoon $50 set for $40. Picked up 3-4 of each. I can flip the first 2 right now at retail price and make 100%.

  9. You can get these today at TRU for $30.59 each + applicable sales tax with 15% coupon (-$6), 10% off Saturdays with with TRU credit card (-$3.40) AND you get the Batwing poly for free (if available). Decent cost for a $60-$75 flip.

  10. The Tyson's store has this box in the back. I saw it from a distance. Looks similar to the pet shop. Some orange brick bricks. Looks like a two shops with brick built signs.

  12. I flipped a few Star Wars and Friends calendars last year for around $60 each. I didn't wait until the peak. I picked up those for $13 each at KMart during clearance season in early October. I'm not sure I'll jump in to a $40 investment for a flip at $65 - $75. If they jump to $100, it would be worth it. I know several folks ordered from Amazon.co.uk and they should do OK, but they won't make a killin'.

  13. I have to reinventory my Mixels. I move them around into sets, smaller sets and individuals too much. I will look and see what I've got.

  15. I didn't partake last year, but my research indicates that $75ish was the post BF benchmark with a few spikes to $100ish which did not last long. My goal is $80 each. Alhough with 2011 and 2012 SW being poor performers, 2013 likely came out of left field to most. I would expect it's on many more radars this year. So $80 may be a little too hopeful.

  17. Great deal, on both. I started doing the math after I posted that, and realized it was probably TRU (although, as quoted below, it was Shopko). I'm headed out to TRU soon to stock up on as many Series 2 as I can get, and start working on Series 3. At ~$3.85 each, that's a great deal. My 2 1/2 year old son and I love Rebels. I'm going to take a look at the figures, and consider picking up a couple for him for Christmas. Yes, for him. Not for me. Nope. For him. Awesome, good score. Great price.

  18. I agree that the chances of dangerous people showing up via CL ads are remote. I'd argue that it is far more dangerous for the buyer at my house should things get sketchy. I am the one who knocks.

  19. The cold is a bonus in my opinion. If it's uncomfortable, the guy may not want to linger around and BS.

  20. I wonder if we will see similar patterns with the Imperial Flagship. I bought one for $400 around this time last year. Bought a second one to hold long-term. Brickpicker value is north of $600 now. Some sets are worth buying after retirement.

  21. Interestingly, walmarts page isn't even indexed on google search results and it doesn't show up on google shopping either. I don't know what the reason for that is. But with amazon, target and toys r us(49 left) all OOS or almost OOS this early in season, I am expecting a repeat of last years performance. I am definitely buying more in the next few days.

  22. Last Night I built my used Queen Anne's Revenge. What a marvelous ship! I enjoyed every minute building it. Now I proudly display it in our livingroom. Even my wife was thrilled. Maybe tonight I will build the Black Pearl.

  24. Whilst I agree with @rtisan above, a point to note for non North American investors these sets outside of NA do not do quite as well. Look at the CAGR figures for 10216, 10222 & 10229. Having said that I have been buying a few of the new 10245 because it's relatively cheap.

  26. With the amount of investors entering the market every day it's going to be a different landscape for these large sets. Limited runs like RI, Mixels, and Mars Rover are going to have an easier time than large sets on the market for years. Surprise retirements like the TH will weigh heavily too. You gotta think Tumbler will be two years but what if it's five? Or only 18 months? Guessing winners now is fun but a bit futile.

  27. I`d add to that, there are still going to be "better/more successful" investments that are out there. If it`s Santa`s Workshop vs Tumbler, I`d buy the Tumbler at this point no question (actually I`d buy both, but if you have to choose....haha). T1 Camper is always going to have a fanbase to maintain it`s popularity, it`s one of the sets that you don`t have to be a Lego enthusiast of any kind to want on display, same for the Mini Cooper/Tumbler/WV sets, and others. Also keep in mind that this set might stay around all year, or Lego might pull in, retire it, or re-release again next year. No way to tell for sure, so that will dampen the long term gains, until EOL that is, then I would expect every set in the theme to keep going up.

  28. Said it before and will keep saying it, these are great little sets! Excellent concept and the price point is perfect. This batch looks fantastic, just like the previous 3, can`t wait to pick them up.

  29. Good questions actually, I`ll give an answer a shot. The Winter Village sets have proven to be very popular, and thus excellent investment sets. Previous releases were available direct from Lego through the Christmas season, and more difficult to obtain/not directly available throughout the rest of the year (that`s the case with some, not all of them). My point here is that in this time it was possible to flip the set(s) for a quick profit, but time has also shown that the value of these will increase dramatically more with each passing year. Bottom line, these are great sets because Christmas isn`t going anywhere, and eventually they do have to be retired. Means that they are very safe/excellent long term holds, yet they also have the ability to sell at a higher price in the short term as well depending on availability. In the case of Santa`s Workshop, I`d buy literally as many as you can, it`s excellent for the price, and paired with the Workshop set will continue to be very hot items each year. The limit of 1 is clearly allowing a small profit bubble to form over the set as well at the moment, because some buyers understandably want more than 1 (for gifts, themselves, etc.) and that is difficult to do directly.

  32. Yeah, this doesn't seem to be a repeat issue of the FB mess. I checked 5 of my 36R4's and all are 2.585 kg-2.595 kg. I weighed a lone 27R4 that I could find and it's right in line with those (2.585 kg)

  33. I think the Simpsons house will be a winner one day. It's a big set that will likely never be remade and there is a fanbase for it. Keep in mind that people who grew up watching the Simpsons when it was good may still be in their 20's and not buying these things right now. And I think Ecto is too small of a set and too niche to be a huge winner.

  34. Hello, I wanted to update as it has been three months since I made this introduction thread. So at the advice of several people here, I have been taking the path of selling pieces on Bricklink (vs. rebuilding the sets, or selling batches on Ebay). I'm happy to say that I have almost 20 sales completed on BrickLink, and really enjoy the control that I have over the process. From sorting CL bulk parts, entering to BL inventory, and handling the picking & packing when the orders come in. It's all methodical and fits into my schedule (I'm a night owl). I did try piecing together a couple of the higher value sets that I identified, but I don't like putting an hour or so into pulling the parts just to find that pieces are missing. I think my time limitations keep me to just parting out. So thanks again to everyone that suggested opening a BrickLink store. That has certainly been the best fit for me.

  43. I would like this set a lot more if it didn't come with the cars. They just look tinky. The bridge itself is awesome, but even if you just throw the cars away, they'll always be there in the back of your mind, taunting you with their silliness...

  44. while i have no proof, my gut still tells me 10214 is going away in 3-4 months. i'm prob wrong. nevertheless, i still hope it's iconic enough for future demand to combat it being available for so long. although well-known, TB is no Stature of Liberty, Taj Mahal, or Eiffel Tower when it comes to popularity. come to think of it, the Sidney Opera House might be more recognizable to the average person nowadays.

  45. While I'm in the minority, when I first saw Benny's Spaceship, I was unimpressed. It looked like the old space space line and something I used to slap together. I understand the nostalgia factor, but somethings are better today than they used to be and Lego designs are one of them, IMO. I have since warmed up to it, but not because it reminds me of the spaceships I used to build. That may change if I actually lay my hands on it.
