Bought these today at a local Mom & Pop Pharmacy that is finally running a 20% off sale on their toy stock. Tie Fighter - $43.99 Jabba's Palace - $95.99 Friends: Adventure Camper x 2 - $27.99 Friends: Cool Convertible - $11.99 I'm going to post some pictures of the rest of the stock in the "Deal or No Deal" forum to get some opinions on what else I should pick-up tomorrow. Thanks...4 points

The bigger picture is these sets aren't about the money: They are priced at $19.99 specifically because they felt it would be a price higher than anyone would be willing to pay - they weren't meant to be sold until after the promotion (if at all). A few people buying out stores early in the promo leads to customers going to the store, finding out they couldn't get the promo, and all it takes is a couple complaints to corporate to get balls like this rolling. Or a manager raising an eyebrow when someone comes in and asks to buy $1000 worth of a theoretically minor giveaway item - and talks to someone at corporate about it. Drawing attention in any way like this leads to changes and people looking into what's going on. Obviously, I have no inside info, but having worked in retail in the past, I imagine these scenarios are both very possible.3 points

Brickpicker has been the source of everything I know regarding LEGO basically. I would have missed out on basically every deal I have got since I started without BP.3 points

In the early days, it caused me to spend a lot of money. These days, it causes me to spend a lot of money, but a little wiser now.2 points

Yeah, but what else are they good for being specifically 2014 Bricktober sets? Buying out the store at $19.99 each is still good money for LEGO and/or TRU.2 points

Don't feel sorry. It's upto every investor to regularly check stock availability. I mean, I bought way before this 'incident' happened and just extended my stock with 2 but the majority of TH, I had already bought. One should be prepared and not wait until others feed them the info.2 points

Being marked "retired" by LEGO S@H is for the novices out there...just like "retiring soon." It just confirms something that is already apparent to the experienced resellers out there.2 points

A trimming of exclusives is a reasonable choice, if they release them at the current rate the supply will be just choking. It is already choking. I predict they will also slow down a little and release them ~every 2 months. We don't need this many at once. An average LEGO collector just can't keep up. Regarding the end of modulars I believe that is unlikely. Why? Because there exist more marginal exclusives that don't sell as well, I don't know if you noticed but PR was a top seller the whole year. The line has a steady customer base. Less risk for LEGO than the Mixer, Maersk stuff, Sydney Opera etc. If I was LEGO and had to keep only one line, it would be the modulars, second would be SW UCS. Companies like predictability. They don't kill their steadily selling products, rather they trim the more risky ones. Modulars also don't require any license.2 points

Create a wanted list for the parts. One way is to go to the set inventory and select the parts you are missing. Once your wanted list is created go to this link http://www.bricklink.com/wantedShop.asp it shows the stores with most items in your wanted lists. make sure to only check the square corresponding to the set wanted list if you have more wanted lists created. Edit: Select lots (unique) for better results then click go. Also here is direct link to creating a wanted list out of the SE set http://www.bricklink.com/wantedSet.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=10231-1 if you have few parts missing select "Exclude all items from upload by default" on first page, then when the items show in next page you just have to uncheck the delete button for the few pieces you need.2 points

This and people in general are just impatient and want immediate results. These are the same people that won't last long in this game.2 points

Most of the growth of sets happens within the first three years, and there is small growth after that. I think most sets stop growing in value after five years.2 points

I couldn't help but notice you put "blown away" in quotations. Are you hinting at the 1994 movie starring Jeff BRIDGES, meaning we will see 10214 retire next year? Or perhaps you are referring to his co-star, Tommy Lee Jones who also played in The Fugative with Harrison Ford who will be in the new Star Wars movie... Are you saying we will be getting a UCS Carbonite Han Solo bust?!? HOLY S&@^ man, this is huge news.1 point

This place has given me a positive sense of community regarding all things Lego. I confess, I really didn`t know very much about how to go about investing in anything plastic, other than just to spend money on things I liked (I`d been a collector/builder for many years prior to joining here). I read a news article on the site, it peaked my curiosity, and instantly I was hooked. Have been ever since. Such a fantastic place, thanks to Jeff, Ed, and every member here for continuing to grow and expand this awesome site!1 point

Just having some fun with you KShine... we can't all like the same things. You are so right. That's classic Star Wars, tho, isn't it? I mean, why do they even wear armor head-to-toe? It doesn't seem to protect them from anything - not even a punch to the helmet. And what are TIE fighters made of? Explosives?1 point

I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with people buying out entire store's inventories worth...1 point

The newest episode of Friends of Heartlake City was on Disney Channel this morning. It was clearly the newest episode - they were at the Heartlake Mall, where they went wedding dress shopping, and then went to the spa. And then had an adventure in the jungle. With a bridge collapse and everything. They've eliminated the studs from everything - so it's more of a straight cartoon, than a Lego-fied world now (especially compared to older episodes, where studs were everywhere). The kids enjoyed it. It's fun.1 point

I bet you did read my post with the irony needed (since I've got the impression that you yourself like to use it every now and then ;-) ) So that's why I said that probably HE is the wiser decission right now (though I would add at least one DS to my inventory if I have the chance, but not as priority). Btw: How couldn't you want to spend all your money on LEGO?!1 point

There is a rumor about a second series of Minifigures and now another set for The Simpsons. Between the two, I actually kind of hope the Minifigures one is true ....just so I can get Comic Book Guy. :)1 point

My local Mom & Pop Pharmacy is running a 20% all their toy stock this weekend. I bought these items earlier today. Tie Fighter - $43.99 Jabba's Palace - $95.99 Friends: Adventure Camper x 2 - $27.99 Friends: Cool Convertible - $11.99 I bought the Space Shuttles a few weeks ago and I didn't see the Friends: City Park Cafe earlier today either. I'm going back for the Big Blue Brick Box 6166s tomorrow, even though they are marked up to $40 and I can get them for $32 each. It looks like they're going for about a $100 on EBay, so I should be able to get $50 profit each on all 4 of these. I'm not sure about getting the Helm's Deeps, but I know this will be my last shot at getting them for $104 each? Opinions on what I should pick-up of the remaining items? Most items are MSRP and sales tax here is 7.25%. Thanks...1 point
-
I can just picture receiving a pill bottle full of the little white single round lego pieces. (Sorry, don't know the proper name) Edit: I don't know much about city sets but I've read they aren't the greatest investment but those space shuttles are kind of cool!1 point

I cannot count how many ways I have personally benefited form Brickpicker. Some top ones that come to mind: - Friends (and I do not just mean tagging someone with a friend icon but actually developing multiple really good friendships) - A great online community to go to every day to converse and get feedback and feel a part of (great, good, bad and indifferent) it is all of value - Learning the best approach for finding deals and making the best of deals - Actual Deals. Should I say Rovers, Research Institutes, MKII Cranes, the list goes on and on - Investing Guidance. Learning to focus on Exclusives (as my choice of how to invest) - Getting into Doll Investing. Never thought I would say that one. - Learning about scripting I am sure there are may other things that I could list that do not come to mind at the moment. Brickpicker is a great place to be a member of. I am glad for the friendships & knowledge that I have developed from being a part.1 point

Well I was able to get 10 tonight at another store in FL. I used to live there so had a friend run by. They had told me to call today at 5 so I did and manager said he had 18. By the time my friend go there they had 10 and sold them to him. The other FL store that had sold me close to 50 the first 2 weeks then only 6 last week said they ran out on TH. Kind of strange seeing they were so readily left over after the first 2 weeks but who knows. The only way to know for sure is to go by each store. Calling is hit or miss and even if they said they won't sell them doesn't mean they won't. They change there mind daily, sometimes shift by shift.1 point

Yeah, that makes quite a diff w/ & w/o it's own 3G. I got the LG *** Watch as soon as it was out. When I first took it out of the box, I said, "Oh man, I don't know if I can handle something so bulky on my wrist." However, I haven't worn a watch since I had a calculator watch in elementary school, so the feeling would already be awkward with any watch. Based on pictures and video at the time, I feared the 360 would be even bigger, but it's definitely a nicer looking design. The initial reviews of the 360 were poor on battery life, but an update has since improved that. I do like some of Samsung's devices. What I fear most with them is that they pump out so many models, that they can easily move on and leave yours in the dust. I'd trust Moto, at this point, to provide updates a bit further along. It's too early at this point for me to assume watches will get replaced & forgotten as frequently as phones. Generally speaking of smartwatches - I still feel it's a completely optional piece of tech gear, but I do love the convenience of it. I personally hate ringtones and all the notifications going on throughout the day, either too loud or missing something from being too quiet. It's harder to miss a notification buzzing on my wrist, and it's easy to swipe away something that you would've been crashing your car trying to dig out of your jeans. I've actually had some meals where I didn't pull my phone out like everyone else at the table because I knew I wasn't missing anything. Need more justifications? I almost bought a fitbit as everyone at work seems to have one. Consider that $99 toward the watch. PLUS, you can check the time on your wrist! It's a novel concept, I know. When I got a phone, I said, "Why have a watch when I can just check my phone?" Now I say, "Why pull out my phone when I can just check my wrist?" I guess the watch just needed all other notifications to win me over. If I weren't such a guinea pig for new tech, I'd wait for them to be slimmer and more refined. I know they all vary to a certain extent, but mine lasts 1.5-2 days with the screen always on, or maybe 3 days if the screen's off when not viewing. I just charge it nightly w/ the phone. Sorry for the novel, only to have no experience with either watch you're looking at. I do know the OS itself is unaltered between the 3 though, so the general info applies. I think with these for now, it's almost all based on preference of looks and comfort as the specs are very similar.1 point

I like to hear about advent calendars flying off shelves. Went to the North Point lego store a few months ago on a saturday and you'd think they place was a playground or park. Kids were throwing legos, jammed packed, chaos.1 point

I don't know really just kinda caught my attention. I'm a pretty big fan of tech so just decided to see what the buzz was all about. The reason why I narrowed it down to those two specifically is because those are the two running the android wear OS. The other galaxy gear smartwatches run Samsungs own OS called tizen and I'm not a fan. I have a Samsung note 4 now so either the moto360 or the gear S will run good with it. I might get the nexus 6 phone when it comes out, it is made by Motorola so that should pair nicely with the 360. Hopefully someone here has one and can share their experience.1 point

Samsung indeed has some amazing material. My collegue bought one. I was making conversation stating it was just a gadget, but he geniounly believes it's a nice add and that it works properly. Also depends on your phone I assume. If I have a samsung phone, I would go for optimized compatibility so samsung gear. If apple, motorola.1 point

I picked up a 9677 I found out in the wild. I finally decided to grab a 10214 TB on the last day of 2xvip yesterday AND the lady in front of me was buying a Simpsons house. She didn't have a VIP card so she let me put her purchase on my card. :D1 point

Seen the new Keanu Reeves new Movie John Wick Last night and it was great, His best movie in years. And like I said best action movie in years, All Star cast, Great Acting by everybody in the film, He Looses is wife, wife leaves him a small Dog, but the bad guys want his car and kill his dog, and then the Revenge Killing starts, and I mean Brutal Killing, Check the reviews which at least 3/4 of them are great. since I go to the movies all the time, Fury was good, The Equalizer was good, but John Wick is the best. So Go See it its great. Score 9/10 Ed1 point

I would say Bricklink is your best option. PAB will take 2 1/2-4 Weeks to arrive and I think their "new" pieces aren't better then the new ones on BL. Majority of the pieces will be cheaper through BL most likely. Put all the pieces in your want list then there is an option that shows stores with all your pieces. Using this feature you would only have 3-4 maximum most likely. IMO1 point
