https://baltimore.craigslist.org/bar/4724296023.html I changed the coke to a surge and now it looks like I'm getting an actual house. Funny how surge works. Those reviews on Amazon were spot on.4 points

Well.... The Hobbit was published (books, ya know) in 1937. Lord of the Rings was originally published in 1954. It's the second best selling novel of all time. So, for 70 years there have been fans of the Lord of the Rings. This is not something new that children need to grow into.3 points

it really depends on what you mean by retire - like RETIRED on shop at home vs unavailable for purchase. I think it won't be listed as RETIRED at shop at home until next year. I do not think it will be available for purchase again this year (except for fleeting stock gobbled by bp'ers). Everyone pretty much agrees that the SC is retired. That set probably won't get slapped with a retired tag until next year. Even Jabba's palace is still listed as SOLD OUT on the shop at home page and everyone can agree this isn't coming back, but still its not RETIRED. I think the TH has shot at some spectacular returns given its unexpected departure.3 points

Thanks to a fellow BP'er, who is surely to read this, I am very bullish on ToO. Math time. Licensed X Outstanding build X Never to be reproduced X A top literary work of all-time= $. I appreciate those who think this set is "fair" as an investment, as it only strengthens the case for those that see its true potential. Tolkien's work was produced during the 40's. It will never be remade; it will never be matched; an entire literary genre was spurned from it. If you enjoy Game of Thrones, Robert Jordan, R.A. Salvatore, or any other author of the fantasy genre, thank Tolkien for lighting the fire. This is an epic, iconic, once-in-an-investor's-lifetime set, and will always, always, always have an interested audience.3 points

Truly a great build. The dragon is like no other. Smug really towers over the whole set perfectly. I know you won't get as much joy out of watching the build as you would actually building the set, but hopefully it will provide of glimpse. Enjoy.2 points

We are. I don't know if it would be easier to sell four T1s or one SSD, so I've stocked up on both. I like a varied portfolio.2 points

The fact is though, there is less chance of a kid getting 2 of these at Christmas and selling 1, less chance you'd sell this set if you got it as a gift, a lot of investors like to keep to investment on a set under2 points

I'm very bullish on the set as well but if you want investors to ignore it and not stockpile it, the last thing I would do is post how great it is.2 points

I agree people should stop buying TH when it shows up again. More for me to buy. Hehe :)2 points

With all the reproduction stickers out there now, I think it is better to get a complete set from a reputable source. Unless you are a seasoned falcon builder and have seen multiple ones in person in can be difficult to tell if all the pieces are there, even on a completely built ebay auction, you gonna count all those gray levers. I had a sealed pair of them I bought years ago but still had to splurge and buy one of the first editions, and yes I justified it by saying to myself and the head of the finance department that I would sell it sometime later, but we all know that's not gonna happen. Get yourself a nice acrylic display case so you don't' have to keep dusting and enjoy whatever you decide.2 points

Just watched the 4th episode with my son. Wow! Best Star Wars action since in a long time. With just 4 episodes shown, this series is already way better than The Clone Wars, TPM, and AOTC. This series is def a winner. Lego is loving it. Don't click unless you want to be spoiled!2 points

Well, that's the ultimate hazard of hiring unsavory characters, especially when employee abuse is practiced by management in a workplace. But I am sure there were warning signs that HR and management just plain ignored1 point

And more on point, Harry Potter and Pirates of the Caribbean were aimed at younger audiences than LotR, and that hasn't stopped the most expensive sets from those lines from doubling or better already.1 point

I did put an inventory together at the start of the summer however I've added a lot of sets since then and not updated my records. It's something I'll do next year, at this stage I'm just interested in buying so no need to keep records yet as I've not sold any exclusives. My collection currently consists mainly of VW, GE, SSD, HH, TB, R2D2, Super Heroes and Lord of the Rings and Currently fills two lofts and a spare room. I reckon I've got space in my girlfriends loft for another1 point

Click on the order and you see that the TH is backordered, but the promo is 'customer service'. I had the same, but just got confirmation, so no big deal. It was worse if it was the other way around ;-)1 point

I've got close to 90 of these now. However as it's not looking like retiring anytime soon I'm going to hold up buying anymore till next year. This is by far my most stockpiled set and I'll be aiming for 100-150 by the time it's done.1 point

I could not disagree with you more. The spirit of this board- and this forum- is to share perspectives and advice. People can do with it as they please. From what I have learned from this forum, or any of us, it's deserved. I would rather see ToO in the inventory of fellow BP'ers than anyone else. I will reiterate my case for fellow BP'ers to be the ones owning what remains, now and in the near future, of ToO... Mixels are fun, and can be very profitable with proper market timing. Same with the Harry Potter sets; though flattening now returns were very positive. Seventy weeks, vs. seventy months, vs. seventy years of fan base. For the long-term investor, this set is only going one direction.1 point

I also bought a sticker from this seller, I indicated that I though they were fake when compared with a legit one. I was just gonna pay the return shipping, but yesterday in response to your claim he responded that he had also had another buyer indicate they thought they were fake and that he had also decided they were fake as well and that he would give a refund and that I did not need to send it back at all. That was last night, I have yet to receive the refund yet.1 point

You can still order it from Lego, Amazon and Target, and the set is less than 18 months old. We don't know for sure, but I think people are overreacting.1 point

I was in nearly the same spot as you. Buy a legit used one or bricklink it. I then thought to myself, if I'm spending all this cash and want to maintain my investment....screw it, I'm going all in. While I didn't get a first edition, I did get loose one with an opened box and excellent conditioned manual. I think you will ultimately have regrets if buying a bricklinked one with substitute (aka wrong) elements. To me, the 2 black masts, unprinted radar dish, etc... just look incomplete. I wouldn't like to pay more than $1,600 but that's me. I assume he'll want closer to $2k since it's includes a 1st edition cert and box. The cert itself sells for $150-$225. The box is another $100 or so in that shape. Unused sticker sheets fetch $175-250 easily, Since this sounds more like a collection item for you (instead of an investment), be prepared to splurge more than usual. In the grand scheme of things, what is a couple of hundred if it makes you happy? Here is the one I purchased earlier this yr. http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/8810-building-the-10179-ucs-millennium-falcon/1 point

I got my two just when they came out (May 2014). I ended up with two of them at $52 each. It was a couple of coupons that made it happen.1 point

No. He's just trying to buy enough of these at a cheap cost and sell them to pay for college - because he's batman broke. Another possibility is that he's going to make a nice tidy profit selling these and build his own spaceship. When he reaches mars, the curiosity rover will detect him and go bazerk. All the scientists at NASA will jump off their chairs with excitement because they finally see some life on mars. (I think it would be easier to start a kickstarter project, though.)1 point

Just wondering... If the person really wanted to convince the seller to sell it for $50, they should at least be accurate with what they are going to do.1 point
