Most of you will know R2D2 from Star Wars and of course the LEGO Set might be on your list when it comes to investments. (I guess if some investors did actually build the sets they own they could build a small droid army ^.^ ) Since it's an awesome LEGO model I guess that a lot of you own one for yourselves as well. Doing most important research on the internet I found some nice R2D2 MOCs/Versions that I'd like to share with you all because I think they are awesome and add some spice to the normal model. Hope you enjoy them.3 points

While this is true with a lot of .ru sites, I'm pretty sure your computer (and mine) here in the US already have dozens of backdoors installed right from the factory, or even before that (at the computer chip factories), courtesy of the NSA, FBI, CIA, and China's equivalents,3 points

So...I can't be the only one who sees the hypocrisy in backing one petroleum based company, to protest another petroleum based company for the simple reason that they use petroleum. Then to realize that Greenpeace wouldn't truly exist without the use of said petroleum.3 points

Sure it is. Lego probably considers profits to some degree, but what matters most to them is when it is time for a set to go. That question is answered by The Schedule, which sits next to The Banhammer in an undisclosed location somewhere in the general vicinity of Area 51.2 points

The "flippers" are the vocal part of the community. The long term "investor" usually sits back, keeps quiet and watch the flippers freak out when these sets go in and out of stock. It's entertainment at its finest...2 points
-
Long term investing does not require talking. You just buy sets and sit on them, sometimes sell - why talk?. Would be world's most silent forum if not for flippers... And don't forget that there are plenty of folks here who do mix flipping with long term investing. And you are making $200 in 36 month, while QFLL folks are making $50x36=$1800 in same time period2 points

I must say that the multitude of Mini-Mazers out there is concerning. So many buyers, buying such high quantities of just a few select sets that don't really sell in very high quantities sounds like trouble.2 points

Anybody still don't have any DS you will be sorry this set will be another $1000 set and up, I am sure most will wait to the last minute as what they been doing on the SSD,HH,GE,TH. So if you have the money get one now and then, with 3 Star War Movies coming out the set will big money. Ed2 points

Some people do both and aren't so rigid. I have long term investments, mid range investments and short term flips. Long term investments are sets that aren't close to eol. Mid range are sets that just became eol or are about to and short term flips are sets that have been retired for a while I managed to find or new sets that i am hoping will have hiliday shortages. I consider short term anything 6 months or less, mid range 6 months - 3 years and long term over 3 years. Disversify1 point

What is with the returning thing? Regardless of what happens, isn't it nice to say you have them. They won't be around forever.1 point

This could help the price but if you can get $400+ this Christmas why not sell now then reinvest for even larger gains. Just a thought.1 point

I don't think so. If people didn't get them in time for Halloween, some people will want them for Christmas, which will make the set continue to rise in price.1 point

I don't like Greenpeace because they are only fighting for media attention through exaggerated b*****it and not doing much truly beneficial effort. If they knew how oil companies work and what regulations they face or their efforts to minimize environmental damage they would shut up. In a normal world. Sadly they are perfectly aware of this, but still ride the bias of people to get attention. Not the oil industry is the only one which has collateral damage. We could talk about anything manufacturing/agriculture based. On this basis LEGO shouldn't make car toys because they use gasoline. The batteries of electric cars are expensive to produce and the inputs involve some really nasty chemicals. They need electricity. Do they know that if we used only wind, water and solar based power plants, the environmental damage would be much higher than just sticking to nuclear power, and still not talking about the reliability concerns? Should we stop cattle breeding? Don't mine metals. Don't build homes. Don't have children because population is a concern. These industries are just as necessary as any other. They create jobs, invest and research technologies. Every sector has something negative. Oil is just more visible, because the catastrophes can be easily noticed. If damage is spread out more evenly in time and location nobody talks about it. OR just don't buy any LEGOs because ABS is made partly from petroleum. If you can judge oil companies on a moral basis then don't leave out the ones who use their output as an input. Why LEGO made this call then? Because lots of people are stupid. They are talking about oil companies being inherently a child of satan while driving their cars to the LEGO store to buy petrochemicals, during which munching bread made from bio-wheat, grown with the help of agriculture vehicles and shipped to their store with a truck. Protecting the environment is not about stopping global economics. It is about not cutting forests unnecessarily, recycling, being energy efficient etc. Sometimes people forget this.1 point

Why so judging? What if they just want to let all the Russian people to be able to read about the LEGO minecraft sets coming soon1 point

Selling a LEGO set is easier than selling a house, but good luck trying to sell 200k worth of LEGO sets before you sell 1 house.1 point

Less hoarded. Once in a generation set. No future remakes likely. It can be used as a wonderful display piece every Halloween, which is the new cool holiday. Just a wonderfully creative and finished set.1 point

2013 was great too! We had FB, which I stocked up on, and WCS, which I thought was a waste at $20, since it just came with an ugly helicopter and some "Deadpool" guy I'd never heard of... Honestly, Deadpool? What was his mother thinking?1 point

I can't wait for the new "No-Knock Warrant" set. Comes with a shot dog, a baby injured by a flash bang and a warrant for suspected pot possession.1 point

They could do the same thing with this. Just renew the contract after all this dies down. Greenpeace will have moved on to something else by then.1 point

Wait are you saying I shouldn't have bought that Freeco speeder for 10 grand? Uh oh....1 point

NEW / SEALED Death Star II (10143) - $450 Bought it from a company intranet page. Couldn't believe my eyes! How often do you see a set that's almost 10 years old still sealed like that. Woman's husband got it years ago as a gift...always meant to built it and set it up on display. They moved a few times and he never built it. Wife found it in their basement recently and said "he'll never build it" and decided to sell it. They must not like to sell things on eBay/CL so they "low-balled" it on her company site. My mother actually saw the ad and forward it on. Picked it up yesterday...seals are perfectly in tact. This set is a monster and I'm a happy camper!!!1 point

See lots of comments from US members saying stores have or had ample stock, but i think up here in Canada it's much more scarce (at least in the Toronto area). Toronto/GTA has 3 Lego stores and a Discovery Centre all within a reasonable range of each other that i frequent fairly often, and none of these has got any stock since the initial release. I've been hounding them these past 2 weeks about their shipments and if they expect any as i sold off the one i had for around $365CAD on feebay and would love the flip a few more as there seems to be a bigger shortage up here and money to be made. Ebay.ca has no listings for 76023 in "Canada Only". If this isn't all a plot, and we really won't see many until 2015... Canadians could be in for making some serious cash on this set! Of course some will buy from ebay.com and eat the high shipping cost/chance at import fees, but there are some who cannot justify paying $50+ in shipping from the US on a large set. Most stores say they are on a list to receive a couple, but that's it. I don't necessarily believe what they say, but it seems to add up given the lack of availability here. Discovery Centre says they will get a whole 2 sets in in Oct/November, and will actually have some kind of raffle/contest for them on Facebook haha. Mind you there are of course listings on Kijiji, certainly not many, and nothing in the GTA on Craigs. I'll have my eye on the Lego stores all week for potential shipments of Tumblers and be sure to let you Canadians know in the "Canada Local Deals Thread"1 point

Still available for 380 euro p.p: http://www.thystoys.nl/lego-star-wars/23577-10221-lego-star-wars-super-star-destroyer-673419145701.html# This shop bought a lot of the August wave. A lot of people (including me) reserved a few for a price of 340 euro pp, they were unlucky that the shipments came in start September but it was too late because Intertoys had them exactly that time for 320 euro. People cancelled their orders before Thystoys shipped and bought this set at Intertoys saving some euro's. Edit: You can still put the item in your basket, but there is a remark that it is 'Temporarily not available', perhaps they are sold out though.1 point

Hello, hello. Just swung by to post an update for those that might be interested. Biggest news: No Lego bought since I made this thread, aside from some sets for my son's impending birthday at the end of the month. I think I have completely kicked the addiction! Go me! Other news: Didn't sell anything in August because I was focusing on preparing for our three-week holiday, which we just got back from. We drove from UK all the way to southern spain and camped two nights on the way. Did the same on the way back. Recap of where I got to before the holiday ... Total revenue from selling 23 sets:1 point
