Hello fellow BrickPickers... Starting October 1, 2014, BrickPicker will be starting a BrickPicker Blog Group. In the past, we utilized blog contests to acquire new content. We would like to improve on that method and actually pay experienced and knowledgeable BrickPicker members to write new content for the site. The content will be similar to older blog articles and reviews, with a heavy emphasis on LEGO investing...but any quality LEGO topic can qualify. Qualified members will earn a $5 Gift Card to Amazon, LEGO S@H, etc... for every 1000 words/5000 characters in the content that is submitted and approved by Jeff and myself. There is a new application in the Wordpress blog editor that tracks this and the "readability" of the blog. It is one method that I will use to differentiate quality writing from poor writing and helps take photos and images out of the equation as well. I will talk more about this to approved blog writers. How does one become an approved blog writer? Several ways. Mods will have access to the group and will be able to post new content. Previous blog contest winners/runner ups are automatically qualified to be a blog writer. Jeff and I will invite some people who we think would be qualified to write content(if they are interested in doing so). Also, members can either produce content or show me previous work that indicates high literary ability. Approval is not guaranteed, but we will be honest and fair with any member that is interested in joining the group. We are trying to up the content bar. Jeff is working on a new homepage that will have a more interactive blog section to it. Some blog writers will have the ability to produce daily updates/content on the homepage that be front and center on the homepage. We want to produce "new" content, not just post links from other sites...and are willing to pay for it. If you are interested in joining this group and believe you are qualified, let me or Jeff know by PM. We will be sending out some invites to people over the next week or so. If you want to start writing, you can begin in the Wordpress blog editor. Please ask Jeff or I to enable your access to the Wordpress editor. There will be a private forum for blog writers and I will go over the new editor app and readability indexes with members. Also, Jeff will come up with a basic tracking system for blog writers that shows what they have produced and how much they earned. Any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks...3 points

Not sure yet. 3 confirmed. What I do because I'm so awesome and have great friends is send out a mass text. I'll know by the end of the night who wasn't too busy at work or whatever and got me one. It's a technique that's worked in the past for me. You just have to have awesome friends and family Members. And I'll flip them a few extra bucks or lunch for their troubles.3 points

They emailed me again asking for the extra shipping charges and I immediately replied that my attorney would be contacting them to talk about: Bait and Switch, Breach of Contract and False Advertising over this. They almost instantly replied saying they would waive the shipping charges for me. I would suggest everyone do the same if you want to keep your orders. I really don't think they are legally allowed to do this (without having seen any disclaimer on the free shipping) and should not be trying to do so.3 points

Since this is an unchartered territory for most of us, I am starting a new thread to keep everything organized and in one place. Looks like different BPers are having different issues with their orders, feel free to post your experience here. All my orders are marked as shipped at this point, but I didn't go crazy on Sunday over to you2 points

Mine has arrived, but had to put it into witness protection, from both She Who Must Be Obeyed and the temptation to build. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Brickpicker mobile app2 points

That has always been a no-no for me. I am "Spanky" on this site and this site only. Every website I visit I create a new username. I've never used my primary eBay account name anywhere but on eBay. I would never use my real name (or anything that connects to my identity) anywhere. This isn't just a matter of avoiding retailer bans, it is controlling what information people can find out about me online. Example: Let's say I was a malicious individual. What if someone make posts here that reveal they have significant resources to invest into LEGO, and there is enough information posted by that person (either here or on other boards under the same username) for me to figure out where they live. Now that person could unfortunately be a target for robbery. To each their own, but I go out of my way to keep my online "personas" not easily connected to my personal identity.2 points

LEGO S@H was offline most of the day during another big promotion and disappoints again.2 points

Do a full refund through paypal. In a few minutes it will show up in ebay as unpaid. Then open case / cancel, choosing buyer changed mind or made mistake. Buyer has 7 days to respond and accept. If they accept you get your FVF back right away. If they do not respond on day 8 you can make the request from ebay to get back the FVF.2 points
-
I'm sure you did, but be sure to choose the "buyer changed mind" option whenever you do this (and whenever that's what happened) - that prevents your eBay account from getting a defect strike due to a cancellation.2 points

I don't know, it seems like a lady in a white dress could fit the theme perfectly as well.2 points

Not quite, Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. But I loved Doom. Our computer had the minimum requirements, had to make a boot disk to free up enough memory, and then it barely ran.2 points

The reason I ask is because me and some close friends were looking to acquire one:2 points

Well, people got some time to kill until midnight. There is no point to buy Lego now. Unless it is RI1 point

I think since they fulfill from the B&M store that although they may have 50 of an item in stock if it exceeds the quantity that an individual store has your order will get canceled. Unless they would have to ship from multiple stores to complete an order. Perhaps extra shipping charges are for multiple store fulfillments. Just theories1 point

You're right Darth_Raichu, that 918 needs a bit of mod'ing...a lot more red and orange bricks. Getting the smoke just right is going to be tricky as well.1 point

Current "Call to check" is false alarm. Still sold out. CS dropped some hint of something similar(well, aligned with Halloween theme) being released for Halloween, but very vague1 point

I'm sorry, I can't help you. I've only got two as well (delivering today), and I'm totally opening one. I've got two boys at home that don't understand at all why I've been getting sets that we can't open and so I figured, hey, life is too short...the HH is going to BLOW their minds--and I think I'm going to have a heck of a good couple of days building it.1 point

There are many other members on this site who have far more experience then me. But I am learning and I am glad to help and give back in what little ways I can. There is a Military mantra of "Attention to Detail." I think it applies nicely to selling, that can put you above the pack and ensure success. I take looks at all my listings, messages and packing through the eyes of a potential buyer. Who is my target customers and why should they buy from me? Convenience? Service? Bargain Price? Shipping charges? Etc, etc. A nice crisp picture that draws their eye to my listing, a detailed description and clearly defined terms. What questions on the item might they have? As I pack the item I imagine the buyer unpacking it. Would he/she be happy with how it's packed? As I buy things on eBay and even just browse listings (both active and sold). I take notes on things people are doing that I like or that I don't like. What seems to be working and what isn't working. Same with a received item as I unpack it (For instance, I received an item and on the packing slip was a quick hand written thank you and please enjoy message. Not a big thing but a nice thought. Another package had one that was printed and it didn't seem as personal or thoughtful. So on all my packing slips I hand write a quick thank you to the buyer. This obviously won't work for some sellers and I am not sure how it will work when my volume of selling rises. But for now it is that little extra.) It all comes down to knowing your market, researching and having a good plan of attack. Paying attention to the details and going that little extra mile will reap benefits and set you apart from the pack. And with that I will get off the soapbox. Sorry it is late and I haven't been able to sleep...so keeping myself occupied....1 point

im also seeing a increasing number of people who are saying they are making these "long term" investments using credit cards. They either dont understand the concept of investing or their idea of long term is measured in months, not years.1 point

Just in case he does and doesn't invite you, don't feel bad. I'll sum up the topics for you now: Current strategies - buy at least one SSD, DS, GE, PS per month until said sets are no longer available 2015 strategy - continue buying from the previous year's list plus add a few newer large sets like TB. 2016 strategy - more of the same. Maybe start mixing in EV. FOR ALL YEARS - never exceed 200 transactions. That's about it ?1 point

I would only begin to worry/panic, if the set was a store exclusive like the Zombies, which was only sold on LEGO Shop at Home and at Target.1 point
