Hello, At Brickpicker, we strive to provide fast and easy access to the great content supplied by members. Jeff recently made an awesome change to how forum searches work. Now when typing a set name or number in the forum textbox, the predicted top results will appear automatically and are click-able. note: You can also still search the original way. Here are three examples. I want to ask a question about that popular Batman Arkham. However, I can't quickly find the main thread (aka topic). Type "arkham" in the search box and the most popular Arkham threads appear automatically. This is way cool and easy, right? Now I can post my question in the correct thread. I forget the exact Helm's Deep set number but I know it begins with 947. Type "947" in the search and results are automatically shown. I would like to search "10179" from the forums but then decide to see if any of the other apps contain information about this set. This functionality is also available. Happy searching.2 points

Yesterday apple discontinued the ipod classic line which had dwindled down to the mammoth 160 gb ipod classic. The ipod classic can no longer be purchased from apple. Target has them instore only for $245. The lowest price on amazon is now $345 and will only go up from here. This was the iconic device that launched Apple's takeover of the world. Overtime, apple nuts will pay to replace their old broken ipod with the same thing at greater cost. 160 gb storage really is the thing that sets this apart which is twice as much as the largest ipod touch. This hasn't changed in 5 years. Given that music consumption habits are now going towards streaming and subscription of compressed crappy sounding files, the demand for a new similar large capacity portable music player is just not going to be there, so people who want to physically have their music library on their person and not have to rely on the "cloud" will also want one of these. i have 2 of these filled up. this device is my player because it allows me to listen to 24 bit /48 KHz lossless files that were created from either vinyl transfers or SACD encodings . i'm thinking about snagging 2 or 3 more from target for a long term hold or for my own use.1 point

Seems you may have nailed this one @rtisan. Seems the most recent final ebay sales on this are right around that 300-350 range, just a little earlier than many expected. What is everyone's thoughts on this set now? I picked one up off Bricklink (best deal I could find in Canada) but I had to have one to keep mint.1 point

I would say spaceman = $25/30 chima = $5 VIP = $5 First holiday set (40106) = $20 $99 (perfect to be paired with santa's workshop) double VIP = $10 So I would say, well... maybe slightly better with the space set, but double VIP is easy and sure money. Depends on what set you prefer (spaceman or holidays set). edit: hey, I missed the fact that there's a female elve ! let's start all speculations and crazyness about that... :RI:1 point

Fully agree with the statement above. Or you sell both the 41999's and buy two SSD's.1 point
-
IMHO 41999's value will not rise a lot. But I can be very wrong. Keep your green grocer, it's gold-made. My advice, for what it's worth: Sell one 41999 and get one SSD.1 point

Just thought I'd share this http://www.wired.com/2014/08/lego-cost/ The writer only takes a few currently available sets, and not from every theme it seems, from LEGO Shop at Home and does some calculations. Most expensive bricks are the Duplo ones, and rightly so after you stop and think about it for a bit.1 point

It's the perfect time to retire. This holiday season will wipe out 1/3 of those sellers and by next Christmas it will be more manageable. I'm just saying that by next year holiday season it should be an easy double after online seller fees.1 point

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I noticed over the weekend that USPS will now pick up First Class packages without needing a Priority Mail package to be picked up as well. This seemingly minor tweak to their policy will save me from having to drop first class packages at the PO. Check out the website - the "Ground" designation below the line (and the line itself) is now gone, and the "First Class Package" designation now sits between all the other package types. I requested pick up on three packages yesterday, and pick up was confirmed. https://tools.usps.com/go/ScheduleAPickupAction!input.action1 point

Glad to hear I inspired you. I think it was Jeff that brought it up back in June, that inspired to pick up a few sets back then. These are dwindling in the wild, but you can still occasionally find them at TRU. Not to uncut my own market, but these are gold Jerry. Pick these up right now. I'm not big on quick flips (and you don't have to quick flip them). But, at $45 a set, and $90 on ebay right now (with 5 minutes to put them into a 6x6x6 box and print a label), why not? As I told my wife - it's hard to ignore free money. And right now, these are free money. My Mother in law (who lives far far away) found a 3 more today - the 3 that I need to make three more sets. I've already sold 5 sets at $85-$90 each, without paying more than $45 a set. I've got 5 more sets sitting here, and doing my best to get some more.1 point

I have learned this past couple years Target has a habit of either sticking polybags up at the checkout as usual or in their ever-changing section of holiday candies and if found in that area, those seasonal polybags stick around only so long before vanishing completely.1 point

TRUTH! (Toys R Us THursday!) Yes. I'm trying to start a new annoying acronym. I had 14 physical coupons and my OCD compelled me to make sure to use every one. Hit 3 TRUs with my 6-year-old and 11-month-old in tow. 2x Batcave 1x Technic Crane 6x Mos Eisley Cantina 1x Trevi Fountain 2x Benny's Spaceship 1x Bike Shop 1x Heartlake Mall 14 separate transactions, 14 polybags included. And some mixels for my kid (and series 1 for me heh) My first 2 TRUs had most everything I wanted marked as HP which is why I loaded up on cantinas. Last TRU I wish I had gone to first as Benny's, Bike Shop, Mall were all not HP. Weird how it varies from store to store. I'm taking next Thursday off.1 point

I agree, the AT-TE buiild is awesome, but the minifig selection really drags down the value of this set. It really only has 3 minifigs, not counting the battle droids. Had a little road trip today for the kiddos Dr. appts and made a few stops, but not too many. 2 x Series 1 Mixels complete sets (Alpinemaps inspired me) 6 x Batman Batwing polys 2 x Jabba's Sail Barge @$49 2 x Batcaves using 20%+10%+gift cards+ARC-170 polys (my goto, since my TRU only accepts legit coupons) They are running out of Batcaves, so I'll probably start stockpiling Heartlake Malls next.1 point

Prices did inch up. Higher prices will attract more sellers and less buyers and things will get stagnant for a while. Then prices will go up again as inventory shrinks. And the same cycle repeats itself1 point

But if you're talking about the current Spaceman promo I would suggest to buy it ASAP at the lowest price available. I have a feeling that once the 14th gets here it will start getting more and more expensive1 point

I managed to find a big stash of these over in Target's seasonal section that is being converted to Halloween since October is a month away. I snagged myself one for $3.99 which is normal. If they last to the day after Halloween, they should go for half off if you can wait. Even The Brick Fan is reporting this tidbit but of course your experience may vary. Also something about the City Arctic Scout polybag may be found at Target but all I can find is the latest Police Helicopter.1 point

Welcome. Last time I drove across your fair, flat, and very windy state I ate breakfast in some little diner somewhere around the middle off of I-70. The waitress was around 90 years old and wore a shirt saying; Dear Auntie 'Em, Hate you, hate Kansas, took the dog. Dorothy I nearly died laughing.1 point

I have one word for you MBS. Reaching 10X RRP in less then a year. The audience, publicity and demand for RI is far greater. But I did just grab a number to make my point of why to hold. Even if this set tanks and you can't give it away I rather risk the $160 that 8 sets cost versus the potential long-term reward. And I will put my money where my mouth is. Trekgate you hold and I will cover the spread for you come 8/1/2015 Edit and yes this is coming from a guy that sold a bunch too low too early before the NYT article. I learned my lesson and don't want to get burned on both ends of this set.1 point

I think a big factor thing hurting Rancor Pit's sales (and price) here in the US is that you can't buy Jabba's Palace anymore. I think once the Pit goes EOL, it should shoot right up to US$70 or $80. But, I'm new at investing so my forecasts should be ignored. (seriously) But speaking as a buyer, I can't imagine buying a Jabba's Palace without a Rancor Pit. My son wanted Jabba's Palace for his birthday (about 2 months after they completely disappeared... thanks again, son), so I went on ebay and ponied up about US$140 for one, and immediately thought, "How can I buy this without getting a Rancor Pit? You know he's going to have the Palace finished about 10 minutes, and then he's going to start asking for a Rancor Pit... What's going to happen when Jabba pulls the trap door? Luke is going to take 1 step down to the surface of the table below and just stand there?" So of course, we got them both. We built the Palace first, and it's great - no question. Then built the Rancor Pit, and I was surprised - it's quick but a fun build. As you're building it, it has a certain satisfying "sturdiness" about it. And the play features are great too.1 point

The LOTR and Hobbit sets have an inherent weakness...lack of vehicles and box like structures that enable LEGO bricks to take full advantage of their "square" qualities. Many of the LOTR and Hobbit scenes are based on grand and expansive structures and landscapes that cannot be reproduced in small scale accurately, so many sets seem inaccurate, incomplete or cheesy. There is one iconic set of the bunch...The Tower of Orthanc and the rest range from above average(Helms Deep, Unexpected Gathering) to underwhelming(most of the rest IMO). None are really bad, but many do not stand out either. The mini and maxifigures are the true value of these sets and there are some cool ones. Overall, I see a solid future for the themes, but they will not be in the same league as the top sets from STAR WARS or Harry Potter...1 point
-
I agree about the use of battle packs making this theme better, the witches set being released soon is by far the bet small set I've seen from the hobbit/LOTR theme.1 point

I can see the ceiling for it being as high as $300-$350 or so in a couple more years. If we don`t see another pirate theme for longer, it could be even more. At that price, buy, no questions needed to be asked. You`ve made a solid return already, and it`s only going to keep going up.1 point
