  1. Well, I did my part to help; called Lego and told them it was confusing to Star Wars fans that they keep the DS in production, since the real one blew up decades ago. As a result, I trust it will be EOL shortly.

  3. I like the prospects of this set going forward. It's not the piece count or even a special minifigure. It has that "X" factor. LEGO could have easily put these two minifigures in a polybag, yet they chose to make a nice box and booklet. Very collectible.

  6. Lowers the bar for the rest of us doesn't it. I will sell something and people will be so shocked that it matches the description and was shipped fast and packaged correctly that they will think I am some ancient deity who has taken the form of a Lego reseller. Gozer the Gozarian?

  10. this winter theme (like the building modular one) is a "layup" and i have never have said lego investing is easy. seriously folks. the CAGR for each set is amazing especially during the 1st year of retirement. is this set my fav? not eve close but completests will still buy them as will any holiday , snow, carnival, etc... fan. plus they usually only have a 2-3 retail life so making money is faster than investing in other themes.

  11. Sir...you don't know jack. The Winter Village sets on average have around a 30% CAGR. That's pretty impressive. PS: Please refrain from calling other members, especially Mods, a jack off. Thanks.

  12. I'm well aware of what it means. Saying dumb things to get a rise out of people. It's also my job here to respond to things said and people that make this site more cluttered with nonsense than it needs to be. Your name seems to pop up for the latter quite a bit. Also, I won't forget it. You'd never call me a jack off to my face, I guarantee it.

  16. Here is my prediction for what will happen to the RI in the next few months. Lego makes more to fulfill any backorders that they may have. I predict that those orders be fulfilled in mid to late September. Then, any remaining stock of the set will be distributed to various stores across the world. Those sets sell out in stores and the set is unofficially retired. A couple months later, Lego puts the retired tag on the set.

  17. For me it was the difference between sold out for RI and TOOS for exo suit. That kind of gave away their plans. I had enough balls to buy 20 from TRU (besides 4 from lego, but that was mostly accident), but now I sure think I should have got bigger balls.

  20. As an investor, I try to follow the rule: "Original Trilogy, or forget it." But as a dad, these new sets look interesting. I've seen some wide criticsim of this new addition to the "expanded universe" lately. Adult fans hate that Disney is going to make a "kiddie-show" out of their religion. My 6-yr-old (and I) love the six movies. We love the Lego Yoda Chronicles. We watch the animated Clone Wars, but many episodes are just boring - too much politics and chit-chat, not enough monsters and light sabre fights. So now we're seeing the 3 to 5 minute trailers for the Rebels series coming out, and we can't wait to see the show. The character Zeb is very likeable, and pounds on stormtroopers. The ship looks cool. The new astro-mech "Chopper" seems to have more personality than R2-D2. I think the show could be a big hit with kids. I was lucky enough to find a smashed-box 75053 Ghost at my Toys R Us - got it for about US$35 after coupons (my first ever real bargain). My son is going to love it. But I'm looking for another at a discount - just to have a mint "first-of-series" set to hang on to. If the show takes off, it might be worth something some day. And if they're scarce at Christmas... that's fine too.

  21. I'm pretty sure the mini VW bus was more the exception than the rule. In my experience these promotional items don't appreciate greatly over time and I find it's best to sell them while they're hot. I like to make my own discounts on exclusive sets by doing this rather than holding onto them for investment purposes. Maybe somebody else has better data to share about these promotional items as investments.

  22. Volksmagen bus is a different story, first of all its a licensed set... and its a Volksmagen bus.... However the spaceman is going to keep its value at least through xmas VOLKSMAGEN!!

  23. The Lego LotR theme has an identity problem. First, the movies are PG-13 so Lego's target audience is technically too young to even watch them. Yet, the sets are definitely designed with kid's and playability in mind. So, you have an entire theme that AFOLs should be crazy into, but it falls flat because of those design issues. Lego should have probably slapped a 16+ age label on this entire theme and designed fewer, but more complicated sets. I agree. Down the road, if someone is going to get just one LotR/Hobbit set, this one is probably it (even over Orthanc). It's well designed, has some nice building techniques, instantly recognizable, and the details cover both LotR and The Hobbit. It has a small footprint so it's easy to display.

  24. Now this is a cool build to put on top of your modular Town Hall.

  25. This set seems like 6 poly bags put together as one. I would also vote this set to be the less desirable one from this theme. However, if it is retiring after only 1 year, then its definately worth picking some up.

  26. check that, I grabbed 2 in 1 packs at tru for $5!!!!!! ????

  27. Yep, they both have the same box size, larger than their predecessors. I imagine Santa's shop will have a smaller box than 10235 and 10229. I don't mind if the WV sets are $100, but the Cottage was the only one that felt like you were getting your money's worth. Also why I have more Cottages than Markets in my inventory.

  28. ...yeah, it's called a questionable designed set. lt's my least fav set in the theme. so let's say it does 1/2 of what the other sets are doing. that is still pretty darn good.

  29. There is talk about a possible Lego video game on Jurassic Park to go along with this. That might be cool to replay classic scenes of the original films like how you did with the Indiana Jones game.

  31. The 10229's value has increased 45% over the past year. I don't know of many other investments, LEGO or otherwise, that yield results like that.

  32. Hello, hello. Just swung by to post an update for those that might be interested. Biggest news: No Lego bought since I made this thread, aside from some sets for my son's impending birthday at the end of the month. I think I have completely kicked the addiction! Go me! Other news: Didn't sell anything in August because I was focusing on preparing for our three-week holiday, which we just got back from. We drove from UK all the way to southern spain and camped two nights on the way. Did the same on the way back. Recap of where I got to before the holiday ... Total revenue from selling 23 sets:

  34. This post really explains the whole thing. When a new seller undercuts the current prices and sells a lot of stuff in a short amount of time its incredibly high risk for Amazon. (Counterfeiters usually have no problem undercutting the competition for obvious reasons and want to sell their stuff very quickly before they get caught) Unless someone reported you (think buyer upset about the price they paid for a small set, not just some random idiot) I think you will get your privileges back.

  39. Well, I'm the one who suggested this, and it's just a theory, but... the new SD is nearly identical to the first SD playset, and retails for 30% more. Ditto for the new AT-AT, and we've jumped 10% on that. The new B-Wing has a similar piece count to the first (non-UCS) B-Wing, and retails for almost 50% more, the point being that Lego likes to raise prices. However, they don't raise prices on existing sets (with the exception of AS). I do know that 10188, at the same MSRP as 10221, weighs several pounds more. It also has a better price/weight ratio (generally more useful than price/piece; otherwise sets with lots of small pieces appear to offer awesome values) than any exclusive set released in the last half decade or so except for the modular buildings. I'm willing to bet a Chima Speedorz Starter Set (someone please take me up on this; I have way too many) that the Classic Collection has a worse price/weight ratio than 10188. Winner pays shipping, of course, and reserves the right to cancel the bet altogether. Honestly, what are these things good for? They bore children and move too fast to make useful cat toys...

  40. Me neither. I'm up to 70 of these...would like to get 100 before they retire, but they are getting harder to come by now. Besides Lego...Target, TRU, and Amamzon have been getting them occasionally, but they don't seem to last too long. I personally like this set a lot. I think it's a good piece count for the price, and they are pretty nice pieces. I love the mini carousel! I'm pretty sure this should retire in the US this Christmas.

  42. So, my thoughts.... I don't know that there's a right or wrong answer to this. This past week, I've been flipping Mixels Series 1 sets for 2x RRP. Some of these sets I've been holding onto since June. Others, I held onto for less than 24 hours. I'm approaching a similar cost on Mixels, as I would on one SSD. And that's part of what got me thinking about this topic. In three months time, I've doubled my money, for the same cost as owning an SSD. (Yes, I've been able to pick up both an SSD and Series 1 Mixels within the last three weeks). Short term, the SSD isn't at 2x RRP. And, if I'd be holding onto an SSD for longer than a few months, and I was worried about cash flow, then maybe that would be a problem. (Personally, the SSD was a long hold item for me). For me, I'm willing to hold onto the SSD until it gets well over 2x RRP. I don't believe Mixels Series 1 is going much higher than it is now. But who knows? I could be wrong about that. It was just an interesting thought/reflection that I've been able to quickly flip (which is not something I normally do, either).

  43. They will either both be back, or neither will be. Or one will be back and one will not. Or both will be back briefly and then discontinued again. Or Exo will be and not RI or vice versa. There will either be one or more production runs of both, either, neither or no more runs of one or the other or both. It is likely that I will buy between 0 and 100 more of both. Prices will likely remain the same for RI, increase if supply is low, or decrease upon multiple more runs. For Exo the outlook looks the same. Mark my words, put it in the bank. My Lego manager insider told me, his wife plays bridge with the wife of a guy who works on the board of directors of some place that knows the CEO.

  44. Thank you, I got it! Bought a couple EXO suits and went to pay for them and they had the last research institute box sat at the top of the till. The cashier said they had a shipment this morning and they flew out and this was the last one.
