Well, I did my part to help; called Lego and told them it was confusing to Star Wars fans that they keep the DS in production, since the real one blew up decades ago. As a result, I trust it will be EOL shortly.5 points

I like the prospects of this set going forward. It's not the piece count or even a special minifigure. It has that "X" factor. LEGO could have easily put these two minifigures in a polybag, yet they chose to make a nice box and booklet. Very collectible.3 points

Lowers the bar for the rest of us doesn't it. I will sell something and people will be so shocked that it matches the description and was shipped fast and packaged correctly that they will think I am some ancient deity who has taken the form of a Lego reseller. Gozer the Gozarian?3 points

Is EOL really on the end of the thread name now... I can't wait for this set to be around for another year or two.2 points

Tsk, tsk, tsk...why would you think that logic and rationality are the governing forces in the mind of the average American consumer?2 points

this winter theme (like the building modular one) is a "layup" and i have never have said lego investing is easy. seriously folks. the CAGR for each set is amazing especially during the 1st year of retirement. is this set my fav? not eve close but completests will still buy them as will any holiday , snow, carnival, etc... fan. plus they usually only have a 2-3 retail life so making money is faster than investing in other themes.2 points
-
Sir...you don't know jack. The Winter Village sets on average have around a 30% CAGR. That's pretty impressive. PS: Please refrain from calling other members, especially Mods, a jack off. Thanks.2 points

I'm well aware of what it means. Saying dumb things to get a rise out of people. It's also my job here to respond to things said and people that make this site more cluttered with nonsense than it needs to be. Your name seems to pop up for the latter quite a bit. Also, I won't forget it. You'd never call me a jack off to my face, I guarantee it.2 points

Here is my prediction for what will happen to the RI in the next few months. Lego makes more to fulfill any backorders that they may have. I predict that those orders be fulfilled in mid to late September. Then, any remaining stock of the set will be distributed to various stores across the world. Those sets sell out in stores and the set is unofficially retired. A couple months later, Lego puts the retired tag on the set.1 point
-
Good luck with that...We'll see if it works out. LEGO can always change plans, but honestly, I think they are past this set and onto others. Their wording tries to soften the blow to some people still looking for this set. It's like saying, "Hey, the set is done, but if you scour the B&M LEGO stores, you might still find one. Good luck!"1 point

How are you losing if you are selling an item for x5 what you paid?!? I got one of these and sold at 70 bucks. I'm happy. I made money. Move on. I feel everyone is so tunnel vision on this etc when there are so many other deals to be had. It's not coming back. If you have some great. If it does come back you will be notified immediately through this thread. Until then this horse or lego set has been beat to death.1 point

Yes, I should have stated the listing had a "Retiring Soon" tag with a "Sold Out" status. All this talk of everything being retired is wearing me out I can barely think straight. :wacko:1 point

From now on, we have to consider cuusoo sets tied to a license(ecto, delorean, to some degree minecraft) separately from other cuusoo sets1 point

This theme has turned into a longer-term investment for me for sure. I was expecting another wave of LOTR to spur secondary prices of the first wave that has retired, but it's pretty obvious that LEGO is going to be done after the last Hobbit wave and movie come out. I wonder how long they will carry this theme into 2015 as a lot of retailers seem to have bailed on it in favor of newer sets coming out. This last wave of Hobbit sets could have a pretty short and limited run by LEGO standards.1 point

There is talk about a possible Lego video game on Jurassic Park to go along with this. That might be cool to replay classic scenes of the original films like how you did with the Indiana Jones game.1 point

Hello, hello. Just swung by to post an update for those that might be interested. Biggest news: No Lego bought since I made this thread, aside from some sets for my son's impending birthday at the end of the month. I think I have completely kicked the addiction! Go me! Other news: Didn't sell anything in August because I was focusing on preparing for our three-week holiday, which we just got back from. We drove from UK all the way to southern spain and camped two nights on the way. Did the same on the way back. Recap of where I got to before the holiday ... Total revenue from selling 23 sets:1 point

This post really explains the whole thing. When a new seller undercuts the current prices and sells a lot of stuff in a short amount of time its incredibly high risk for Amazon. (Counterfeiters usually have no problem undercutting the competition for obvious reasons and want to sell their stuff very quickly before they get caught) Unless someone reported you (think buyer upset about the price they paid for a small set, not just some random idiot) I think you will get your privileges back.1 point

Stupid question....but why is the UCS label so important? Why doesn't the set stand on its own, with or without an arbitrary label? Would a junk model/set sell better if Lego decided to slap the UCS label on it, or vice versa. Seems to me Lego created the UCS label and can use it however they see fit.1 point

I think I'll let the 7965 MF slide away without buying one. Chatter here is correct: there will be a new one out soon, putting a lid on this one's value. Anecdotally, my 6-year-old lives and breathes Lego Star Wars. He wants it all. He has a DS, and he wants an SSD (not likely), an AT-AT, Mos Eisley, Star Destroyer, an MTT, a Spider Droid, a Starhopper, a Ghost, a Phantom... and on and on. You know what he doesn't want? A 7965 MF... couldn't care less... just of no interest to him... he already has several Lukes, Leias, Hans, and Vaders... so what does he need this boring MF for? And the whole "chrysanthemum" opening top never appealed to me. A new, bigger, more interesting MF is needed... something more than just a place to play space checkers. Also... someone earlier commented that the DS has to go because Lego doesn't want to raise the old US$400 price ... and it's worth more than that today? I don't know.... just doing a little apples to oranges math: The 10188 DS has 3803 pcs and 24 minifigs (and some of those - like the mouse droid - are barely what I'd call minifigs). The new 5004243 Classic Collection has 3839 pcs and 24 real minifigs for US$390. Of course there's only one Death Star, but the new sets are about the same price as the old.1 point

So, my thoughts.... I don't know that there's a right or wrong answer to this. This past week, I've been flipping Mixels Series 1 sets for 2x RRP. Some of these sets I've been holding onto since June. Others, I held onto for less than 24 hours. I'm approaching a similar cost on Mixels, as I would on one SSD. And that's part of what got me thinking about this topic. In three months time, I've doubled my money, for the same cost as owning an SSD. (Yes, I've been able to pick up both an SSD and Series 1 Mixels within the last three weeks). Short term, the SSD isn't at 2x RRP. And, if I'd be holding onto an SSD for longer than a few months, and I was worried about cash flow, then maybe that would be a problem. (Personally, the SSD was a long hold item for me). For me, I'm willing to hold onto the SSD until it gets well over 2x RRP. I don't believe Mixels Series 1 is going much higher than it is now. But who knows? I could be wrong about that. It was just an interesting thought/reflection that I've been able to quickly flip (which is not something I normally do, either).1 point

Bought a ghost train for $43 after tax at TRU. They have 2 more and have been thinking of picking them up. Does anyone thing it's worth it at that price?1 point

Thank you, I got it! Bought a couple EXO suits and went to pay for them and they had the last research institute box sat at the top of the till. The cashier said they had a shipment this morning and they flew out and this was the last one.1 point

In this case you say "Oh, I only brought enough cash for the original price we agreed upon, can you wait here while I go to the ATM?" Then you go grab a cup of coffee, check daily deals thread on BP, go to supermarket to get some groceries, watch a few movies at the theater, go on a vacation to Cancun, then come back and tell the guy it turns out you didn't have your debit card on you. Because screw people who don't stick to their price.1 point
