  2. Greetings Brick-brothers and sisters! In my job as a US DoD civilian, I have the privileged of traveling the world. Everywhere I go, I am always on the lookout for our favorite plastic crack in the hope that I can find some hard to find sets at a good price that won't be prohibitively expensive to ship back home. I am currently deployed to the small country of Bahrain in the Arabian Gulf. I don't know if we have many members from the Middle East or South West Asia but I'd love to here from you. Children here obviously have toys but the working/service class is huge and the income gap, much like most of the Middle East, is vast. Bahrain's location relative to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia means that toy stores largely cater to the more affluent. The country of Bahrain is very small but boasts two major malls and an actual TRU. I understand different countries have different taxes, tariffs, exchange and inflation rates. I had no idea what to expect from the Middle East. I was in for quite the surprise. Enough prattle. I went to the TRU and cataloged some prices for comparison to what we pay in the West. I tried to get a good spread of sets for comparison. 1 Bahraini Dinar = 2.65 USD All prices are listed in USD. SSD $710.42 R2-D2 $318.21 Tower Bridge $421.63 Opera House $501.19 Silver Mine Shootout $169.45 Mindstorm 3 $790.24 Ghost Train $164.14 Microfighter $22.54 Horizon Express $182.71 Goblin King $211.88 Sail Barge $291.43 Yeah... Needless to say, I didn't find anything I would be bringing home. If anyone is looking for something hard to find, I'll certainly look but I don't see much meat left on any bones here. Not the most interesting post but I hope you at least found it interesting. My next trip is to various destination is West Africa. I look forward to searching those locales as well. Until then.

  3. Well, after my current allocations I have decided to hang my hat until Thanksgiving time frame. I have all that I planned and then some, of the key investments that I see. I will pursue additional sets for allocation completion in the first half of 2015. There should be quite a few good retirements within my portfolio this year, in fact I expect that 70% of my portfolio will be retired by the end of 2014. I am hoping the big 5 are done by the end of the year, DS, SSD, TB, GE, VW. I will be a happy camper if these are gone much less the rest of my retirement expectations. I feel strongly about the decisions and weighting that I have. A few odd ball bets, that only time will tell. The rest seems quite stable with great potential. As it sits today the whole nut is sitting at an unrealized gain of 37.56%. I expect that will move much higher as the year wraps up and into 2015 and the retirement slots are filled. I stuck pretty closely to my plan minus the few odd balls and feel very good about the slow and steady appreciation over time. I encourage folks to research, be patient, stick to your plan and invest wisely. If it is your lunch money do not invest it! Waddamon

  5. BIN is the only way to go. I only use Auction if I want to rid myself of some items or drum up some quick cash for another deal. Or if things are just going nuts on an item Ill throw a few out there in a gambling mood. But otherwise you gotta use BIN to make money. I still sell Jabba the Hut for 22$ each and consistently sell them. You can pick one up in auction for 12$ most the time.

  7. I am posting a link to a Twitter feed I setup for the Daily Deals. This is new and I have tied it into some of the processes I have been creating for the updated Daily Deals section. Many of the main sites are in there (Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kmart, Argos, etc). I still have a list to go, but you should see more activity in the coming days. The Amazon process checks very often so you will see the most activity from them. Right now I have it set for discounts of 20% or higher. Feel free to follow it and lets see if we can make it a worthwhile feature for everyone. Let me know what you think. If there are Twitter experts out there, I am always open to ideas, so please send me a PM if you know of features that can make it better. https://twitter.com/BrickDailyDeals

  10. Bought a used 10214 Tower Bridge on eBay with manuals but no box. BIN OBO, with initial offering of $199. Surprisingly, the seller accepted $130 & free shipping. I'm really looking foward to building it! Timing is fantastic too, considering that the set may retire later this year.

  16. I wanted to share a project I've been working on for a few months to find the very best LEGO Architecture models by LEGO Artists around the world. I found many of the models in this collection by reviewing the great resources here and in other forums. The result is several collections of the best LEGO Architecture, which I've sorted by Architectural style. LINK: http://tomalphin.com/2014/07/best-lego-architecture.html The following is just a teaser of the 100's of great LEGO models I've found. I'm sure some of these are models by members of this board, and I hope you are happy to see your work featured below! (I've tried to make sure each entry is meticulously labeled to give credit to the original artist and link directly to their galleries on Flickr, Mocpages and other sites. If you see a mistake, please let me know. Did I miss your favorite LEGO Architecture model? Tell me about your favorite LEGO Architecture models by replying to this thread or my blog post and I'll add more great LEGO buildings to my Pinterest boards. Sincerely, ---tom

  19. If I were to make a time lapse of a building, I guess I would finishing the building first, then remove one brick and take a picture, then rince and repeat. Doing so, and reversing the pictures in the end, you can have a very "natural" time-lapse feeling, where the set is built strictly from bottom to top, and remains in a steady position.

  21. You should try and research the prices at your next locale before you get there. Maybe you could pack a bunch of sets with you and sell them in the parking lot of the TRU. Did they actually have all those sets on the shelf? I would be ecstatic if the Silver Mine Shootout ever got close to that price.

  24. I agree that is a great price to sell. I don't think it's going to go any higher than that, and will probably go down from there. The main draw with the mini T1 was the officially licensed WV sticker for the front, and the fact that it really does look like a mini T1 camper. I just got done building the big mini and the mini mini, and the small version doesn't look like the big model at all. Also... happy 1000th post to me

  31. I only remember there being four exclusive minifigures given out for the San Diego Comic-Con last year but nothing for the New York one. It was due to Lego already being up there in New York with the unveiling of that jumbo sized X-Wing where they gave out "New York, I Love" Yodas therefore they decided to sit out the New York Comic-Con. They should be there for this year though so I imagine they will give out the same characters once more.

  35. That's funny, because my monthly fees for a basic ebay store are $15.95 with an annual subscription. It pays for itself if you average $1,600 in gross sales monthly.

  36. I doubt the SDCC 2014 Batman shows up in a set. They have plenty of other costume variations to choose from and so far the following exclusive Super Hero minifigs have not been re-released: 2012 Shazam Bizarro Phoenix (green costume) Spider-man (black costume) 2013 Green Arrow Superman (black suit) Spider-woman

  39. This next feature may not be the most impressive modular design. However, it is one of the few I have seen where someone tackled the concept for trying to design a modular house in a 8x32 space. You heard right, it is only eight studs wide! Just in case before someone asks, there really was a baseplate officially released from Lego which measures 8x32 in green. Modular Apartment by L@GO http://www.flickr.com/photos/legolago/sets/72157626531752545/ Now if the above wasn't up your alley then feast your eyes on this row of mainly 8-stud wide buildings with the exception of a single 6 wide abode. Very fancy I should say but none feature an interior whatsoever. The instructions are available for purchase on the builder's website. Brickstreet

  41. I'm not a long term believer in Friends sets and I have really started to move away from the theme. I am a long term investor and I just can't see Friends sets appreciating to high enough levels. I think they are great short term sets though. These sets were designed for flippers around the holidays. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  44. I agree with you. The cartoon is doing really well and more episodes were ordered. I think these will do well later on. Many people don't think so but I have a feeling they will. I also could be biased as I love the original series and grew up on the Turtles.
