From BBC News: The Cornish beaches where Lego keeps washing up6 points

I started college in 2002 but had to stop before I finished because of the cost. I got back in to school two years ago and graduated today. My wife was very sweet and drove all the way across town to get this (and a gift card) for me. Of course I had to build it as soon as I got home. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker6 points

A LEGO Tumbler, the Caped Crusader's black armored vehicle of choice in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movie trilogy, will be on display at Comic-Con this week beginning Wednesday. Following the pop-culture convention, which runs through July 27, the Tumbler toy (1,869 pieces, $199) goes on sale at LEGO stores and shop.LEGO.com in September. Measuring 15 inches tall and 9 inches wide, the LEGO Tumbler has an armored exterior, adjustable wings, a detailed interior (with a console screen that reads "INTIMIDATE") and oversized rubber-tread tires. It also comes with a fact sheet about the vehicle from the movies. If you're into character mini-figures, the stars of the set are a Christian Bale-styled Batman and the Joker, the first time Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight take on the villain has appeared in LEGO form. Looks like the X-Wing from the original concept art. You can see the 4 engines, they just look iike one from the front when the wings are closed. Given the fact that the galaxy went through a large scale civil war 20 or 30 years before ep 7 is set, plus whatever smaller battles took place in between due to the power vacuum the fall of the empire created, I wouldn't expect any major leaps in technology. We'll see more of the "used future" look that the OT is known for.5 points

Well, we now have Target.com marking up GE, SSD, DS, Emma's Horse Trailer... Earlier in the year they marked up the Quinjet, and while they later dropped the price to clearance it out, the set was by then officially retired at shop.lego.com. They also marked up the Lone Ranger train and Forest Police Station, in each case shortly before the sets were marked "retired" by lego. Seems to me there's a track record here worth noting.3 points

Or, since it was post-empire, perhaps government regulations required lower carbon emissions while in the atmosphere of any inhabited planet as well as increased MPG. Hence, manufacturers had to reduce number of engines.2 points

Adding to the above, it would seem that 8-wide buildings are actually a thing. Who knew? Turns out in real life there are structures called a spite house (aka 'skinny house' in a couple cases). The dimensions of those vary unlike the modular house standards in Lego, of course, but the general idea is the same about one building of an odd shape looking out of place from everything else around it as if to 'spite' them. Anyway, I found a bunch more 8-wide modular builds. Most are real while a couple done digital but all interesting one way another. Spite House by Carbohydrates 8-wide modular house by slovakiasteph Eight-wide modular building by Frederik Hedenskog A MOC of 19W 46th St New York, NY by RTN LNA Eight wide modular house by Dean Moody I'm starting to see the allure of these tiny cots. I believe I have at least two 8x32 baseplates in green somewhere. All they need is a good thorough cleaning and a design worthy to be built upon them. Now these last two are not single 8-wide structures but they are oddly shaped with one building being 20 stud wide and the other 12 wide. brown and grey modular buildings by alex54 Canal Street Houses by Brick City Depot http://www.flickr.com/photos/58481341@N06/sets/72157629412437839/ Well I believe that is it for 'spite houses' and odd shaped modulars in general. I honestly can't think or find anything else similar at this point. Until next time!2 points

R2 has been one of my favorite builds. Not as big as some of the other large UCS sets, but the design and intricacy of some of the parts was great. The whole unit is very solid, with a lot of internal structure so that's where a lot of the part count goes. Loved mine so much I got the light kit for it:2 points

Wow. Wonderful looking, I'm so glad my last two MISB 7888s were sold last year. Like I said when the 75059 Sandcrawler was released, JUST TAKE MY MONEY. Expect another detailed build thread come Sept. despite I'll be very busy with high stakes fantasy football, work, and the family.2 points

I know it wasn't done on purpose, but for me, I prefer those color variations if I'm building something that is supposed to be old like a castle wall or haunted house.2 points

I think it looks better with the different shades of green bricks. Sometimes a defect can be a good thing!2 points

I dump it out right on the carpet. Every piece I can't find I yell at my dog thinking she ate it. I then find it. I don't apologize.2 points

This thread will be like my previous builds (links below). Intro : While waiting for the missing 10173 elements to arrive, i decided to build 10125. It was recently picked up on eBay for $109 shipped (used, no box). The $179.99 set was introduced in May 2012 and consists of 2,127 elements including a R2D2 minifig that was recently refreshed. The elements are in 15 bags. For more pictures of the box, please refer to this review found on eurobricks. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69410 Like other builds, I'll will walk through the building process, take pics, discuss various topics like elements used / how, and provide a recap. Bricklink's element inventory of this set is ... http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10225-1 The 4 reddish brown "Hose, Flexible 12L with Tabbed Dark Bluish Gray Ends" elements are exclusive to this set and can cause some difficulty in bricklinking this set (usually costs about $2.50 -$4.. The UCS sticker sells for about $10. For more details about harder to obtain elements, refer to Grolim 's review. Here is the Lego Designer video of this set. How I identified the boat (well down to 3). 6285 has a brown boat. On to Peeron.com to look at the 6285 parts list. Boat is part 2551. Search on Peeron on part 2551. Lists all sets by color for this part. Three are Navy Blue, all from 2009. Job done :)1 point

I've been doing this a lot lately - I've got about 20 sets that I'm trying to put together right now, based on what should be in my bulk lot. To me, here's my process: 1. Sort out the bulk lot into color. 2. Print off the inventory from Bricklink. 3. Pull out the bricks for each set by color. 4. Place them in separate bags. 5. Figure out what's missing (there's always missing pieces). 6. Order from Bricklink. 7. Put together!1 point

This next feature may not be the most impressive modular design. However, it is one of the few I have seen where someone tackled the concept for trying to design a modular house in a 8x32 space. You heard right, it is only eight studs wide! Just in case before someone asks, there really was a baseplate officially released from Lego which measures 8x32 in green. Modular Apartment by L@GO http://www.flickr.com/photos/legolago/sets/72157626531752545/ Now if the above wasn't up your alley then feast your eyes on this row of mainly 8-stud wide buildings with the exception of a single 6 wide abode. Very fancy I should say but none feature an interior whatsoever. The instructions are available for purchase on the builder's website. Brickstreet1 point

Everything is awesome.... But....am I the only one hope to get a batpod inside the tumbler? It will be a slight disappointment if LEGO does not include the batpod release function, since it is how I remember this vehicle in the movie. But otherwise this set is perfect!1 point

The life times of these sets kinda sucks. In regards to investment only you are talking late 2016-into 2017 ar a minimum for retirement. That is a long time. We'll see how long they keep arkham around. I expect a while, probably 2016. So many great sets. I sure hope the investing opportunity continues to present itself over time.1 point

I can easily see the Ledger Joker figure as one of the 5 hottest mini figures ever released in a retail set. So long as it stays exclusive to this set, anyway. TOK should start a poll as to what that figure sells for upon release. My guess would be $60ish once the initial freak out dies down.1 point

Here's an idea for a random character. How about this torso from the Chima sets but with light bluish gray arms and hands to match, then a pair of these legs, and top it off with this head or any of the zombie ones with perhaps a certain helmet, hairstyle, or hood to complete the look. It could be a necromancer, undead warrior, or (for Evil Dead fans) a Deadite! Just one of those random ideas when I saw the torso. There is also this cool alien skull helmet from Space Police III that might look cool on something.1 point

This story is getting boring. Back, gone, back, gone, back, poof...lego is messing everyone up here. I hope they do this for two more years. This is a great way to make money. By 2016, you'll see 27R6 and this thread will hit 1000 pages. To generate more messages, lego can put a retired tag on, then suddenly say it's a mistake. Nobody knows how many they have each time they show up. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker1 point

I love picking through the mix of colours. Something about separating the bricks seems too "sanitised". When I am getting frustrated then I start sorting them, but with smaller, numbered bags it makes things a lot easier.1 point
