  1. A LEGO Tumbler, the Caped Crusader's black armored vehicle of choice in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movie trilogy, will be on display at Comic-Con this week beginning Wednesday. Following the pop-culture convention, which runs through July 27, the Tumbler toy (1,869 pieces, $199) goes on sale at LEGO stores and shop.LEGO.com in September. Measuring 15 inches tall and 9 inches wide, the LEGO Tumbler has an armored exterior, adjustable wings, a detailed interior (with a console screen that reads "INTIMIDATE") and oversized rubber-tread tires. It also comes with a fact sheet about the vehicle from the movies. If you're into character mini-figures, the stars of the set are a Christian Bale-styled Batman and the Joker, the first time Heath Ledger's The Dark Knight take on the villain has appeared in LEGO form. 7. Hey folks, Just thought I'd share a small milestone with everybody and let everyone know that I just purchased my 50th set. I started this back in January of 2014 and I've enjoyed every moment of it. Thought I'd share my inventory with you in order of what I first purchased so you can see my strategy/progression, some of the rookie mistakes I have made, possible feedback from all of you, and so the people that are even greener than me can learn from. The only set I've purchased full price is the Architecture Studio. The others I've been able to get for between 30-40% off. Here they are: 70808-1: Super Cycle Chase 4 10225-1: R2-D2 18 21017-1: Imperial Hotel 1 21010-1: Robie House 3 6862-2: Superman/Armor Lex 4 21050-1: Architecture Studio 1 21005-1: Fallingwater 3

  8. Here is the golden rule of EOL and Lego set retirement: A Lego set is not retired until deemed by Lego LEGO Shop at Home. No one knows when a Lego set will retire. A set could be OOS for over six months, and then it could make a comeback. Just because a set is OOS and not available for purchase from various retailers does not mean that the set is retired.

  9. This is what we've come to? Basing probably retirement dates off of Target's website? Now the community is definitely reaching. Someday people will just accept the fact that NO ONE knows what their plan is.

  16. I'm always amazed at how people on messages boards, across the Internet, on a variety of subjects, believe that the very tiny, little, insignificant audience that participates in these things has even one drop of iota of a say in anything that any big company does.

  18. I am just over half way done and loving this app. Very easy to differentiate colors and shades. The biggest advantages for me so far is the video of each step that shows how far the technic parts go in and the ability to rotate the image in any direction and on any axis. The only downfall is that you have to be carefully not to inadvertently touch the ipad screen as you can skip steps.

  19. Guess I didn't think this was a forum faux pas. Only curious as he has 12 Pet Shops so I was interested in when the big investors made the move to other sets and at what percentage of the next logical retiring set he would have compared to GE Apologies for asking something that is not helpful to others. 27. I'm really, really surprised by your posts. Most of you seem to appreciate this set but do not want ton invest in. I don't understand, I think all lights are green: - great minifgs ? checked (space unikitty, benny) - best vehicule of the movie ? checked (spaceship !) - big set ? checked - both playable and ok for display ? checked - appealing for men missing vintage sets ? checked - and more and more I don't know when it will retire but I would bet that this one would be a great (or an awesome) investment. I really would not be surprised to see this set double its MSRP value as soon as the second movie is on screens...

  29. What if it is much more simple than most of us think and LEGO just have a very specific schedule already set up that they stick to straight forward, saying for example: - SSD will not be produced anymore past June 2014 (if stock is depleted before that, they might produce more; if stock lasts longer, there will be no new production) - GE will not be produced anymore past September 2014 (if stock is depleted before that, they might produce more; if stock lasts longer, there will be no new production) - DS will not be produced anymore past December 2014 (if stock is depleted before that, they might produce more; if stock lasts longer, there will be no new production) I mean how probable can it really be that such a big company decides about EOL dates seemingly on a day-to-day basis? I think this is not probable at all. There is no infamous "guy" that is constantly changing the status display on the LEGO Shop at Home site... it is just a program checking the incoming data and stock. I guess LEGO already had its plan ready in say December 2013, with fixed EOL dates for the whole year of 2014 - maybe EOL dates where set up for the end of every quarter or even half year. And producing or not producing and relocating and stuff is just a reaction to the changing stock situation not because LEGO are constantly changing their mind every day. So I would rather look at what happens after the end of each quarter instead of looking at everything all the time.

Very strange and actually confusing to me.

  32. I would really like to see that. I hate that R2D2 head full of acne...
    1 point
  33. I started with R2's dome. 50 steps. This so actually the last section to build when following the 3 manuals. Pictures were taken about every 10th step. Final picture of the complete dome / head I might eventually order 1x1 flat plates and slope elements to smooth out the head some. At some angles, it kinda resembles the late 2000s VW Beetle set. 37. You know what baffles me? They can do unique printings for such limited items as the new Unikitty, but doing decent prints for the Mini Cooper (front emblem is ugly as hell as a sticker) or Orthanc would be too much to ask for? I am beginning to be seriously disgusted by this level of monetization.

  38. I do find it a little comical when people add in the the "cost of time" to sell the items. This would most definitely be true for those who rely solely on sales to pay their bills. For most of us, it's a side hobby and we have a full time job. The "cost of time" to sell is only applicable if you would be doing some other money making venture at the same time. If the time you used to sell would otherwise be spent watching tv, going to a ballgame, eating dinner, going on a date, etc. the "cost of time" is actually ZERO.

  42. While we are on box art, and manual art. Printing and fulfillment is my day job. Inventory SKU control for a multi-billion dollar company is a big deal. It does not mean updating artwork on a manual or box can't be done, if you want to it can be. But what you have to understand is the part # on the manual or box will change and you will have to pay your artistic staff to update it, your printing company for new proofs, and then the job is a revision and not a reprint so it all costs more. Then the SKU # changes and you have to put in a supercession trail for your manufacturing plants and then they have to have adjusted build orders. It may sound simple. It is not. You can hire staff to manage all the aspects and then do this. It is not a problem. The steps are many but they are straight forward in a good manufacturing and inventory control company. But is it worth it? I think not. That is on top of then people thinking they are getting different versions of sets and market confusion from box changes etc. If I was Lego, I would do exactly what they are doing.
