Great World Cup! (I felt the group stage was the most exciting, other than the 7-1 Brazil thrashing) As expected this contest comes down to knarff versus Bold-Arrow: knarrff - Germany - Argentinia - 3-1 - Brazil - Portugal 3rd place tie breaker: Brazil 2 Netherlands 1 Bold-Arrow - Germany - Argentina - 3-1 - Brazil v Spain 3rd place tie breaker: brazil 3-0 netherlands Portugal and Spain were both eliminated in Groups. I am awarding the set to knarrff because he predicted that the Netherlands would score 1 and they ended up winning 3-0. Whereas Bold-Arrow predicted no scoring by Netherlands. knarrff, please send me a PM with your shipping address. Thanks everyone for entering! This was really fun for me, I'll try to remember to do it again in 4 years.4 points

A neighborhood near me had a garage sale last weekend. No toys that were worth buying but I did pick up some plastic storage drawer units for $10. There was some random computer cables in the large bin that I gave back to the seller but he said what ever is left in there I can have. I was cleaning them to put my Lego in and found 4 complete books of Forever stamps. Nice! At $0.49 cents I got $39 of stamps and two big storage drawer units for $10. Not bad.3 points

While we are on box art, and manual art. Printing and fulfillment is my day job. Inventory SKU control for a multi-billion dollar company is a big deal. It does not mean updating artwork on a manual or box can't be done, if you want to it can be. But what you have to understand is the part # on the manual or box will change and you will have to pay your artistic staff to update it, your printing company for new proofs, and then the job is a revision and not a reprint so it all costs more. Then the SKU # changes and you have to put in a supercession trail for your manufacturing plants and then they have to have adjusted build orders. It may sound simple. It is not. You can hire staff to manage all the aspects and then do this. It is not a problem. The steps are many but they are straight forward in a good manufacturing and inventory control company. But is it worth it? I think not. That is on top of then people thinking they are getting different versions of sets and market confusion from box changes etc. If I was Lego, I would do exactly what they are doing.3 points

Lots of sets have loose parts, usually larger plates. The concern is when multiple small parts are sliding around loose inside the box. I have one set right now with box and seals in great condition but from turning the box around I can hear lots of loose bricks clattering around. I don't think it's always a sign of tampering, because I've opened some sets before and found that the inside bags have come open, I imagine due to rough handling that causes a sharp brick to poke a hole in the bag. For reselling though, I wouldn't keep any loose-sounding sets regardless of the box/seal condition.2 points

List in 1st post updated. Have also clarified the convention used for the count number. Keep posting the details though if you can, people can search the thread further if they want those. Thanks all2 points

Check out some of the new stuff found at the Build-a-Minifigure Bar. From the Monster Fighters glow-in-the-dark ghost frame, light bluish gray trophies, red capes, Series 7 Hippie's torso, wait...what?! No kidding, a number of different legs and torsos for various characters in the Minifigures line are appearing in Lego Stores since the many latest additions with their Pick-a-Wall section. via The Brick Fan1 point

This is a discussion forum, not a wiki. While there is a search function, and it is useful, the very nature of a forum is more discussionary in nature, and not just bulk knowledge storage. Sometimes it's difficult to weed through all the BS to perhaps find the piece of info you're looking for. Also, I'm willing to guess that a lot of the Potter discussion is old. Investment tips from even a year ago might not apply today. The OP had a ligitimate concern, there's new Potter material coming out out, that's a new development and it definitely warrents new discussion on strategies for sealed Potter sets. Remember, there are people here at all experience levels in lego investing, and with varying degrees of internet savvy. I just got done building the VW camper van, so I'm feeling a bit hippy-ish.... Right, The section in the middle-right of the 2nd pic is also Y-wing : 7152 , http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/4195242.pdf #30 Looks like some of those chunks are part of 7152 or one of its variants.1 point

What exactly is your point??? Your negative posts will have no effect on the next newcomer who has a question (which you know, since you seem to post the same comments whenever someone posts what you consider to be a dumb question). Are you suggesting that any user who asks a question before searching for the answer should somehow have their account automatically deleted?1 point

The exact wording Lego used in their January 2014 Catalog concerning the Rover was "Limited Quantity", so I think they gave us fair warning. Edit: To be honest, I never really understood why so many thought that the Rover would be coming back. It was OOS for 6 months and we were still getting posts about speculation of its mysterious return.1 point

A bunch of sets retired today. Craggers Command Sip is officially gone # 70006. If it pops I may go pick up the last few remaining at 50% off. I am still reviewing the updates but SSD did not make this cut, or at least not yet.1 point

If the seals have been tampered with, there could be what looks like fingerprints or some sweat smudged underneath the tape. Flaps on boxes using tape seals should have a little bit of slack if some force is applied so if they are in fact glued, the flaps won't even budge at all no matter the direction. You can try shifting the box around from left to right and if you can hear way too many loose bricks slamming the lowered side plus if it takes a while before the noise of everything hitting stops, it1 point

My suggestion (others can add to list) In store: -Lift ends of boxes to see there is glue. Most boxes I have encountered do not have the tight seal that glue would produce. -Closely investigate seals to see if they have been lifted from original positions or I other tape has been applied over seals to look like original seal. -shake contents of box to investigate loose bricks in box or sound of contents other than bricks. - boxes that have more typical shelf wear than others pay special close attention to. At home/office: Weigh sets to compare with online weights some sites provide. Check more than one source fr descrepancies before jumping to conclusion.1 point

I picked up a used Star Wars: Clone Wars Twilight (7680) to build with my son. I never thought this thing would be so challenging. Tons of Technic and pins so far. I can't believe how many large light grey and dark grey plates this thing comes with. This thing is going to be larger than I expected, and heavy. http://www.brickpicker.com/bpms/set.cfm?set=7680-1 I got through book 1 last night and I spent about 45 minutes correcting a mistake I made early in the build. The Technic pieces are so tight that it was challenging to get it apart for the fix, without possibly severely messing something up where I couldn't remember how to put it back together. Fun so far, and Rotta (stinky) is so small that I now understand why he's so easy for folks to lose. I told my son we're putting him up, since he's worth $20-$25 by himself.1 point

That's the rumor. It would be neat to see the original Toa return in newer and better tweaked parts. I'm just wondering how the story will be continued on at this point considering where the original left off unless this will be a complete redo. I am curious to see how the entire thing will be built as I can't see Lego using one of the old specialty parts created for their hovercraft designs years ago they seldom used at all.1 point

Whew - I didn't think I would still win with my bet for the third place. I guess I was not the only one thinking that Brazil would get their act together. I felt so sorry for them. A big thank you to sauromosis, and everyone who participated. I'll probably build this with my boys and I am sure they will be drooling all over it. Thanks!1 point

I'm not a long term believer in Friends sets and I have really started to move away from the theme. I am a long term investor and I just can't see Friends sets appreciating to high enough levels. I think they are great short term sets though. These sets were designed for flippers around the holidays. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker1 point

Well in unrealized gain the whole portfolio is up around 50%. I don't care about cashflow for this portfolio. My business is sufficent for that. This portfolio is all about appreciation over time. No need to sell short term or flip anything. I am not sure how old friends will sustain against the new sets over time, thus i may sell this year. As of now they are fantastic performers. The big ones have not retired yet. I am hoping they do this year so i can ascertain the potential of first wave sets.1 point

Hi guys, some feedback from the European market where SSD's are stil "plentyfull" available at 350 - 400 E price point. I've mailed 2 shops from France and the Netherlands to get the delivery date of the SSD you can still order on their website (not in stock) They confirm beginning of August. another sign if a new SSD run coming around that date. So it seems Europe will have time to accumulate SSD's. For the GE, the picture is mixed, but looks like end of August there could be another wave. hope this helps a little. regards,1 point

SSD dried up much faster than the GE. GE can still be had at some places. Not a knock on the GE since they are different. Seems like the Star Wars line has more high paying investors. A friend of mine in Australia said he can't find the SSD anywhere and is now willing to pay $800 for another one. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker1 point

4625 - Pink Brick Box: 1 large bag1 slightly smaller bag1 small bag1 bright green 6x12 plate1 instruction bookletTOTAL = 3 bags - unnumbered It is a little confusing considering the instructions are placed in a bag of their own sometimes but most people are just curious as to the actual parts bags. Hmm, maybe the number of sealed bags listed should just be the ones for parts and leave the instruction manual bag out. I would also wonder about the maxifigures and other oddities in their own sealed bags whether to include those with the count or not.1 point

This thread is to create a list of sealed plastic bags contained in each Lego set. In general I have taken this to mean the total number of sealed and numbered or un-numbered main bags. i.e. smaller bags within a main bag are not counted, just the main bags. The bag containing the instructions and/or stickers should also not be included. Loose parts like baseplates etc are also not included. Basically if it's a Lego piece or part and is wrapped in a plastic bag it is counted as a bag for the purposes of this count. This thread contains posts from people with further detail such as loose parts, instructions, bag numbering, etc. Please search for the set # within this thread using the forum search function if you are seeking a detailed breakdown of set contents. Here is the list in set # order so far. All info gathered from prior Brickpicker forum threads and from the Brickset thread posted by gorbasho below. More info can also be found in this thread linking to a video review site http://community.brickpicker.com/topic/9583-need-to-know-how-many-bags-are-in-a-specific-set/?hl=evantube (I haven't gone through any vids but if you do watch one please post the bag count below). Feel free to post any info you have below and I'll incorporate into the list.1 point
