  1. This thread is the reason so few speak out against the herd on this site. A well thought out and well presented argument gets torn apart. Is the OP correct on all points? Of course not. He's not completely wrong either. I can't stand the Sea Cow. Therefore I put my limited resources elsewhere. I love the Simpsons House, but am still hesitant to drop full retail on one. What is the point of this site if not to discuss opposing investing ideas? Don't shoot the messenger just because you don't agree with him. Sent from my iPhone using Brickpicker

  2. I for one am very excited about the 3 1/2 eggs, however am disappointed in the lack of jingle fitzee.

  3. Four TBs delivered here. Incredibly they were double boxed. Two pairs in the lego box inside a larger box. This has got to be a first for WM.

  4. I somewhat disagree. The Maersk Triple E is an awful build...Too many damn stickers. Repetitive containers...But I love that set to invest in and display. Love it. The Sea Cow is so damn unique, you have to appreciate it on some level. With another LEGO Movie on the way, don't count that set out. It is the largest of a very cool theme. There are plenty of people who think that set is a work of art...enough to make it valuable one day.

  5. The OP has every right to express his opinion. I think he is wrong on all counts. Each of the sets he listed is rather unique to the LEGO world, so they usually stand out and appreciate quite well. They are also big sets, which helps. I don't see the logic in comparing them to other quality sets like the Maersk Triple E or Parisian Restaurant. There is room for all to appreciate very well. I put all of these sets in the same category...winners.

  6. I pretty much agree. The mixer though is an amazing set. If this is the first of many for a carnival theme then who knows how high it can go. It takes Lego modulars to a whole other level and expands the imagination. If a carnival theme will exist this will be high on my list and the first of a theme which is a good thing. Downside is no investment will be made for 2 or 3 years.

  7. I went to my Wally World to buy some pool chemicals. As always I had to check the lego aisle. I saw a lone bat cave sitting there with no tag. I scanned it on my phone. Nothing came up. I scanned it on the in store scanner. Again, nothing came up. I saw an employee scanning some items a few aisles away. She scanned it, and said it wasn't in the system anymore. If I wanted it she could mark it down to $35. Score! I asked if they had anymore. Sadly, they did not. I already have several of these bought around $50, which I feel was a good price. Getting one for $35 made my day.

  10. I just wrapped up this video. Way better than the previous sets. I was never a fan of the TNMT as a kid and didn't much care for the Lego sets either until now. This series of sets are a lot more realistic and dark. A really great build. The turtle mini figures are awesome.

  11. Interesting points all around. I think those that aren't saying much or anything at all in this thread are speaking as loudly as those that are.

  12. The problem with the LEGO movie is that it is a comedy about itself. It is a parody of LEGO, people's image of LEGO and some other movies - no ORIGINAL stuff at all. A great topic for a movie, indeed. But a pretty lame topic for LEGO sets. How long will people want to build sets that spoof the sets they have bought over the last decades? Benny's spaceship parody of a classic spaceship? The idea is new now, but will pretty soon get old. I know from experience how merchandise from TV series performs while the series is running. You missed the 1st series of McFarlane figures from The Walking Dead? Hard luck - some of the figures sell for $250 now. BUT: when the series is over, interest will vanish quickly. The same happened to the LOST figures. Prices went up, up, up while the series was on TV. And when it was over, you sat on all the stuff you hadn't sold early enough while the hype was still on. So, when the movie's hype is over, no one will care about the 1st wave of sets ever again. If there is a second movie people will rather buy those new sets. The only scenario I see in which the Cow and other weird stuff might end up STAYING popular, would be if the LEGO movies become really iconic, legendary stuff - like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones. But they just won't. Because the LEGO movies won't ever have an epic story, no epic universe around them, as I said before, they are only a parody. Or am I just not aware of the big fanbase of the "Superhero Movie" or "Scary Movie". I don't think so,

  13. I am so tempted to order a couple more TBs from Walmart to increase my odds of not receiving damaged product. Then I can just return what will most likely be damaged. Law of averages....

  15. I tend to share those sentiments on the Seacow and Simpsons house, but just because I don't like something doesn't mean someone else doesn't and won't spend their money on it. I agree that if the Mixer is the first in a line of Carnival sets, then it will be sought after later for people that missed it. On the helicopter and the price drop, I know TRU was selling this on their website at $100. If they also sold this on their eBay store at the same price it would affect the value you see, similar to Target blowing out the Desert Skiff.

  20. In this thread, we're discussing a MOC tree for a HH. In another thread, we were discussing the value of the MBA Adventure Designer, especially at 50% off. I picked up that set because I thought it'd look great in our Halloween town.

  22. Maybe. When half of the LEGO investors out there think a set is a terd, I can see that happening. I have 3 of them and that's about it. My brain says it's a winner...my heart says no, I would rather buy and display something else. Some people really like this sort of build, so I'm hedging my bet with a few.

  23. I really enjoy seeing all the dislike for the Sea Cow. Please everyone on BrickPicker, don't buy any. (jest). If no one keeps them to resell, the price on this thing will appreciate because there is a following. I am in that group.

  25. I mean you are comparing Apples to oranges. The Lego movie had much more time and care put into it that scary movie or superhero movie (which are really just awful). Thats a fair point, but I just don't agree with it. Only reason I am holding off Movie stuff is I want to see what they do with the extra lines, etc. But from what I have heard, the Lego movie was epic and will continue to be a legend. Why do I love power rangers stuff? because I saw the badass Ivan Ooze movie when I was like 12 and still until this day think its one of the best movies of all time. All the arguments you have made have been made about Ninjago and Friends as well. "Its a niche line". "Its a now thing - people wont remember these sets down the road" Lets take a look at those theme's CAGR.

  26. I guess it depends on what you define as "good", but I would consider 30% acceptable. For long-term investments, I would probably look for a value around double MSRP.

  27. Never mind my comment haha. I'm a Canadian...don't know or even check the inventory for your main retailers. I'm doing a pending trade with a US member and he informed me most big US retailers are out of stock for GE.

  28. I think this is a true statement, but how long are you going to have to hold onto those Sea Cows until kids today come out of their dark age? If a 10 year old is into the movie today, that kid may not want to, or be in the position to buy a retired Sea Cow until they're in their mid 20's to 30's. 15 years is a lot of time to have that money tied up even if the set doubles in price.

  29. I haven't checked out the Technic set yet, so I wont weigh in on that one. I will say that I've already made money on the Sea Cow so I would beg to differ with you on that one. Simpsons and Crawler will do just fine.. Not sure about the Mixer yet. I don't get the A vs B argument (Triple E v Sea Cow) as it is irrelevant IMO. they barely have anything in common other than they are ships. Same with Slave I v Sandcrawler

  34. i pray the Simpsons set has a short run and is unloved by investors. also it is in its 25th season not 20th and is the longest running sitcom and animated series in US history. it also spawned a movie that grossed half a billion dollars 20 years after the TV series started, but ultimately this means nothing other than you have synergy between Simpsons aficionados and AFOL both competing for a limited supply.

  37. So the two came in a Lego packing box, looking fresh as can be. The other three in a box 2x the size of the tower bridges (didn't know boxes that big exists) with two surprisingly mint . The third set is open on one end, seals not cut but never ever placed on the top of the flap. I'll have to try and get a replacement. Damage is one thing but an opened box is another story

  39. I wanted to construct a tree that would look good standing next to my Haunted House for Halloween. Please give me some input if you see areas where I could improve. I may put a few hanging vines on later. Not sure if there is actually a way to link to the 3d model or not. 196 pieces. Here is a screenshot I took.

  40. I'm still seeing these in most Targets and Walmarts in my area. A few weeks ago my closest Target ran out of Simpsons figures and replaced them with a box of Series 9. I scooped them up as quick as I could but needed 4 more figures for a set when they ran out. I went back the following week and they'd put out another box of Series 9, so I got my complete set. I built a display for the Simpsons figures, but I'd really like to figure out a way to get a transparent shield to protect them from dust.

  43. New results are in! The April and May price guide updates happened simultaneously so we have a 2 month gap from our last update. Only one more month to go before the contest ends! IAmElim with his 28 x Wolverine Chopper has taken over top spot after the dip in price for Desert Skiff pushed jojoyojimbi and Mos_Eisley down the rankings a bit. Starpod and Busch97racing are a little ways back in 2nd and 3rd with their heavy portfolio of 5 x Unimog. The biggest mover since the March update in the positive direction is njseale up 35 places from 78th to 43rd. On the slide side we have tdw down 27 spots from 40th to 67th.

  46. I bought a couple of Chima sets -the smaller ones and parted them out but the figures sat forever before being bought. Anyone have success with any of these sets? I only did it because i got them so cheap. I ended up making good money, just took over a month to move the figures. If I haven't only bought 3, I might be trying to get rid of them until the end of the year. Complete contrast to Star Wars, LOTR, Super heros stuff that lasts maybe a week.

  47. We have substantial numbers, my friend. I agree. Wolf-headed minifigs don't really seem like they will be popular in 5 years. Even at 50%, I would buy it just to "flip it fast".
