This is quite simply absolutely gorgeous. Who knew that a Lego set could ever be more detailed than a professional grade model kit? Oh, here is the box with some promo videos. via The Brick Fan4 points

So you're saying the HH would make for a good anniversary gift? I'm terrible at getting gifts, but with a can't lose woman pleaser like the HH, I could turn my streak around. Thanks.3 points

I'll scan it into a PDF file and post it so people can just print it out and "cut" it themselves. I'll do it on a black background so it should be pretty straightforward for people to trace it.3 points

Don't hate, I got me my first 10228! Yay! Got one of the last two at the Lego store in Danbury Fair Mall in Danbury, CT. Two very funny things at checkout. 1. Women DO love the Haunted House. As I was checking out, the lady in front of me who just made a purchase (Don't know what she bought; I was way to busy staring at Vampyre's Bride's' bouncy...hair...and the rest of the set!). Anyway, the lady looked at the set and said "Wow! That's an awesome looking set!" 2. As I was about to claim my free Balloon Cart, Nina's '99 Luft Balons' was playing in the store! The original and better German version, no less!!! Lol. Can you tell how excited I am, boils and ghouls!!!! Lol2 points

This is the very first haunted house in Lego history according to the original description. I plan on buying both today at that store. I will keep one and probably convert the other to a bed and breakfast to go with my modular town. It has the look of an old Victorian house which I love. It can also easily convert to the Psycho house as well lol2 points

I'm thinking about modifying the Funhouse Escape set to be an actual non-batman themed funhouse and roller coaster to go with the mixer set. Just need to get a hold of some more of those track pieces.2 points

My only complaint is that the Mini logo seems to be a sticker again... The only thing making this set not perfect. It is not a hidden cockpit or flavor image, it is important. Seriously. LEGO. Stop. Just stop. Edit: Oh i just saw the video. The sticker is more annoying than I thought. I love to see how he is skulking, precisely avoiding to mention them.2 points

1234.56m = 1km, 234m, and 56cm 3456.78 yards = how many miles, yards, feet and inches? If you do some woodwork, you'd often need to add or subtract lengths. Would you prefer this: 36.8cm + 84.4cm = 121.2cm = 1m,21cm,2mm or this: 3'6"1/4 + 4'7"3/16 = ??'??"??/??1 point

Tbh I think she'd prefer the smooth picnic blanket that comes with the Mini. Besides developing a bout of Piles from her bobbly blanket, she'd most likely end up getting fat from that massive sandwich she's made herself.1 point

Any preference at all on set sizes in general? I have done a ton of the smaller to medium sized sets and can recall a number of them. Well anyway, here is one set I just recently opened up four times so its contents are very confirmed. Haha. 79011 - Dol Guldur Ambush 1 small bag1 medium bag (Inside: 1 tiny bag)1 instruction bookletTotal: 2 bags - unnumbered I will try to make a point of writing a note about whatever set I open up at the moment and then post it here.1 point

Tried to like that graph 10 times, it would only let me do it once. :-( Of course that doesn't reflect how long some of those sets were sold out prior to retirement. I am guessing we will see stuff like the Batmobile/Two Face lingering on there sold out until November perhaps.1 point

limit is a limit folks ... i aint afraid of no limit ... ask me where do i buy my ectos from now on, ill say "not from Lego" just follow the rules and youll be fine! if a deal or a set i like shows up on LEGO Shop at Home, i max out my limits in one shot and then stock up from other resources ... that way im not breaking any rules! many of us here on this site do the same ...1 point

Well maybe I made it up and will now act like it has always been a thing because that is how America works! But actually no matter how tiny the sandwich, I'll just naturally use both hands also.1 point

Three months after the imperial flagship was EOL I had taken my father in law to a Lego convention in Cincinnati. At the time the sets were selling on ebay every day for $400. They had a Lego store set up in the convention center. Sitting on the shelves were 8 copies (marked down from $180 to $120). I casually asked the store guy how many sets I could buy. He told me 5. So I informed my father in law that I was going to buy 5 and I was going to have him buy the other 3 (he's not a wealthy man and I informed him I would pay him back later that night). We went to the register to pay when I realized I had left my wallet in my car on the other side of town. I pleaded with the cashier to help me out and not force me to go across town to get my wallet. He thankfully allowed my father in law to purchase all 8 sets. So my father in law just put $1000 on his credit card. While driving home I was telling him about my strategy in investing in Lego. He then informed me that he wanted in on half. Meaning that he would buy 4 sets and I would buy 4 sets. What was I going to do. He saved me by paying for my sets anyway. He then got worried about what he was going to tell his wife. I reassured him that we could post 2 of the sets on ebay that night and a week later he would (should) be able to sell them for between $350-400 easily. We did exactly that and he was pleased. We then sold his other 2 sets the next week. Since then I've sold a couple of my sets. I have a few more still gaining in value. But to find eight $400 sets on the shelf for $125 ea. Without having to wait for them to "mature". That was a great day!!1 point

I think that Unexpected Gathering is a winner here. It's both a classic set for both Lord of the Rings AND the Hobbit. Plus, it really is a beautiful little set. It's one of the few I actually have displayed at my house (my wife won't let me build anything really big). It's not super-expensive, but it is just expensive enough that I think you'll get decent profit once it retires. Plus, it comes with five important minifigs (no filler goblins, orcs, elves or anything you don't really care about). Can't tell you how many people commented on the set when they came over. After they said, "You're an adult and collect Leogs?" nonsense, then their comments actually turned into, "This is really awesome." As far as other sets that are still retail or discount out there, I think Dol Guldur and Battle of the Black Gate have long-term potential as well. but again, as many of you have stated, I think the reason Lord of the Rings has limited appeal is that it probably really is mostly adults/teens going after them. Most young kids haven't seen the movies. Even the Hobbit movie, in many ways, is more violent and brutal than Lord of the Rings. So, little kids aren't asking for these for Christmas as much. The only ones who will are kids who KNOW about Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit and just think that whatever set they get is cool. I know my youngest son likes Star Wars sets for that very reason. He hasn't seen any of the movies (yet) but he knows about Star Wars, and would rather have a Star Wars ship set than some generic Lego outer space set. I just have a feeling that, because the Lord of the Rings legos haven't been HUGE sellers, that could actually help their value long-term since they probably haven't made as many, and they're retiring more quickly. Maybe I'm wrong. I like them a lot, and I'm trying to get my hands on as many as I can at the right price.1 point
